If so it may be sd card OR its yet again...dell
get it exchanged immediately
but before that can you run a webserver and pull the em.xap file and upload it for notebookgrail?
WOW,
So it looks like the NoDo did not fix the memory problem with the dell venue pro's
I have a venue pro with out any update and had the wifi download crashing, replaced my SD Card with a Sandisk 16 gig Class 2 card and do not ever freeze anymore ...

They wont get away with it in the UK, from trading standard to angry users they will get a ton of bad press, maybe worse. We could be possibly seeing the end of dell in the smartphone arena, and frankly I cant say they will be missed.
480 is the average reading of any other wp7 with 512mb, as some memory is used by the OS and is excluded by this you will never read 512 here. So I think this reading means they did fix the ram issue (phones with issues report approx 225mb!) on the units sold in India.

Or could just be new hardware.
It is highly unlikely they re-did the fab process to add more RAM. Very much out of the realm of possibility.

HTC's done it in the past with different versions of the Diamond with different amounts of RAM. There seems to be an extraordinarily high level of confidence in Dell to somehow add extra RAM with a software update, and after all that we've seen from them that is highly surprising.
I'm assuming the the NoDo DVPs in India isn't finalize, otherwise MS would of release the update sooner. Lets ALL be Patience and wait for the Official Release.

The Indian version also has an updated firmware. That is why we are holding out that Dell fixed it in a firmware update we are waiting to get.
We won't know for certain though until NoDo releases for the rest of us.

I agree, but after 4 swaps its hard to be anything but pessimistic when it comes to Dell solving this problem. And we've already had one report of someone with the newer batch from India having the same freezing so I'm not optimistic. Especially when it still could be the best WP7 device available, but Dell just doesnt seem to give to flying figs and will probably move on to the Wrigley device and try and bury the whole DVP fiasco, along with its users.
Guys just tell me how to extract the xap file for u guys. I am going in for the replacement to a Dell service center lets see how things roll out. Regarding the NO-DO update there is a small error u cant just copy paste any text for example i had to copy some text from a mail and i could not see the copy paste functionality also its still not available in some apps some notes app. You can only copy paste it from messages and web pages. The crashes just got worse plus dell is not acknowledging the problem in India.

I'm sorry....but ...huh?
What do you mean not final? And if its not final, how did they get Dell, or anyone else to release it?
What I beleive we are seeing is:
The contents of update #2...the NODO update.
We saw #1, build 7008
NODO could be update #2, build 7355( if I recall that number correctly)
Could there be a Update #3 in store, for those fixes that occured since the NODO build went out?
Before we speculate...here's my reasoning.
In order for Dell to ship this build on a new device, they need, say 8 weeks preparation. The 8 weeks is to make a point...I really don't know the time needed. But if its 8 weeks....then the NODO build would have been handed off to dell around Christmas.
But that also means the update schedules, the bug fixes and stuff spoken about at MWC and CES, would NOT have been included in this build.
Another point, in the US, we see Sprint opting for a March 20 launch date for WP7. I assume NODO. Verizon will follow behind that...I heard dates from 3/20 to 4/20. In order to make the new builds effective, there almost has to be another update planned, POST NODO, Post Sprint/Verizon launch....just to cover any NODO fixes....if you buy into the Christmas hand off.
To me this makes sense. Only time will tell...thats for sure.
I just went to the Dell Service center and they said they havent heard of any such issues with the phone, they also did not have replacement unit in stock they said i will have to wait minimum 4-5 working days. Guys i want to ask an honest question is the hd7 better and stable phone than this i love WP7 but i cant stand this phone or dell anymore. What do you guys say.

Honestly, the one thing you will notice is the hd7 screen is worse but for stability there is no contest, the hd7 and in fact all other wp7 devices are vastly more stable than the Dell.
So true but I am stuck, but Dell has agreed to give me a replacement unit tomorrow. The dealer said he will replace the DVP with HD7 if the replacement unit is defective.

No wifi for any new PPC phone is a joke, saying that, no EDGE is aswell!
I wonder, would the MDA2 rom work on the normal magician.... cause if it has no wifi module wouldnt it be just ur run-of-the-mill Qtek S110 / upgraded magician?
If this is the real deal, there wouldn't be much reason for current Magician owners to update. But at least they could keep on selling this very popular phone for some time yet, provided they dump the price.
And why shouldn't they? Surely they have made enough money already on the Magician, so whatever they can get in on v2, is just an welcome bonus.
If the WM5 rom can be installed on the current Magicians, they would even get a very happy userbase, which most likely would choose the same brand again
Btw, have you noticed the lower two buttons are the same as on the current Magician? Oh well, guess we shouldn't read too much into this early picture...
This product is similar to the i-mate New Jam with 128mb ram and WM2003SE, I have this device and it is very nice, very stable and i love it.
The only difference is WM5 and if they do release it then we all can have WM5 on our devices.
It's coming out in the UK too, but in a different colour.....
I wouldn't presume you'll be able to upgrade a Magician with a Magician2 ROM. After all you can't upgrade a Himilaya with an Alpine ROM.
Unless of course it really is exactly the same device - with WM5?
Well, it LOOKS to be the exact same device. If they did any upgrades, wouldn't they advertise it?
After the Raptor hoax I guess most people don't wanna get their hopes up again, but I find this thing very interesting
For all disbelievers
@all,
stop doubting!
here you see main cataloge page and specs page:
note: specs page does not state wlan, while other machine specs does!!!

Yes they do,
extensible memory = sd-io/mmc slot.
But SD is not usual memory, it is storage.
But I wouldn't be surprised it marketing is mixing it "accidentally" up...

I know there is a stand alone install file, but i prefer to automatic download through windows update.
So what is going on, is SP1 on for Shift or not?

Don't know. I did this check for updates several times, and hoppa, once it asked me if I wanted to install the SP1.
That was 18-3 in the evening east european time. In the afternoon I had no luck.
Works great.
Huib
installed, but not very cleanly
Well, after 3 failures, I finally updated to SP1 using Windows Update.
Took a lot longer than an hour I can tell you. Between 2-4 hours per attempt.
In the end, I still had no audio and problems with Shagctrl. Followed instruction on other threads here and they seem to be ok now.
My remaining problem is that he custom buttons on the right side of the screen are no longer mapped. Shagctrl and resolution changer are accessible by running the applications directly, but the buttons don't do anything.
Any ideas?
I tried the beta and notice some great improvements with my videocard. I origianlly scored a 4.5 without it and with it I received a 4.7. The gaming graphics received a much higher score. I uninstalled the SP1 RC1 though in order to aquire the newer release and still have not seen it yet. I do know that MS states they have already started releasing it to the manufactures as of Feb 2008. Who knows.

Yes that's correct. It showed up in the partner site a couple of weeks ago.
Otherwise, use this link to download it

The direct download is hidden until next week and they really want you to do it via Windows Update.
But here's the link (no MSDN required!!)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en
DOH!!! Didn't see the full link and thought it was an error.
Thank you for the link. I will be a lot happier now. In your opinion, I have 2gb of ram. Would it be beneficial to buy another 2 gb to have 4gb? The price is right....
You have 2GB RAM on the Shift and wonder whether you should upgrade to 4GB?
First, I don't really believe in the 2 GB - (theoretically possible but hits you with roughly $500 and voids the warranty) and 4Gb is just not possible, that kind of RAM for the Shift does not exist (maybe in some dev labs of RAM manufacturers, ready for release in 2009 ...)

Umm Sorry, I was comfused and was talking about the memory for my PC not PPC since the topic of Vista SP1 was on the board. I would love my phone to even have 1 gig.
I just UNINSTALLED SP1.
There was no problem with screen drivers.
There was no problem with Shift Control Center. (after I uninstalled and re-installed.)
Actualy I was running smoothly but for one thing:
The USB Tool kept disconecting.
I really want the WM to Vista connection to be stable so I can backup my PIM between Vista and WM so... I uninstalled it and everything works fine now.

In this case, let's go off topic for a moment:
If you already have 2GB in your desktop, another 2 GB to get to 4GB will probably not change that much (for "normal use"). On the other hand, RAM is cheap (except for the f***ing microDIMMs) and if you should do things like video editing ...
Just one advice: Consider adding only 1GB on top as Windows Vista 32 can only access a maximum of 3.5GB. Putting in the full 4GB would be more than Vista can handle (unless you should be running the 64bit version) and while it just ignores the additional half GB, this is wasted money.

This was an artical on a norwegian mobile site
This summer, it was said that Android 2.2 version of the Galaxy S probably would get an official version in September. September is known as the passed, but the update is now just around the corner.
- We have estimated the deployment in mid-October, and hopefully the update will reach users during the next week, "said Stig Ove Langø, major account manager in Samsung Norway.
Your phone is much faster
Android OS 2.2, also called Froyo, is a major update. Some of the highlights:
The browser has been quicker to load sites with Javascrip
Applications will load two to five times faster that everything does not have to be before you start, but it all happen on the way
Processor performance of the phone in general should be better
Memory handling must be very much faster.
Exchange support is greatly improved
The phone can function as Wi-Fi router
In addition, there are a lot of other things that have changed when it comes to user interface. The full list can look at the Android development page.
Great

i hope to god its just round the corner, im not moaning believe me, i moaned a hell of alot more with my hero and the delays for 2.1
GPS best be fixed, as no matter what rom i have flashed, it takes an age to lock on, and when it does at best im about 100 metres away from where i actually am
The filesystem is shocking also
all in all though, i love the music player, samsung always get that bit right
that gps problems is a hardware problem some guy who sended his phone back got a new antenna(different material) in it and then it worked fine! its with the first batch of phones. i got a phone that came with jm2 instead of fp3 from when i got it right out of the box and my phone is good and acurate on gps quick fix and very accurate 5-10 meters
Its a software problem with the GPS. i get 5-10 meters accuracy too. But when i slow down everything went jumping around... locking is not a problem for me. Its only that it cant rly lock me to one place. So i guess its a software problem
yea its jumping a little i just noticed in a gps monitoring program but it keeps locked on (rarely they go all gray for a sec but then its back again)(gives no problems in actual navigation) here and while driving and navigating in car with sygic mobile maps it never looses track

I love Android but its not polished as an OS yet. It really isn't. Samsung's AWFUL software department doesn't help either.

So because Android still has a few quirks to sort out and needs some polish here and there, you're considering jumping to a spanking new, "fully rewritten" platform?
Among the features that are not yet present are cut, copy, and paste, full multitasking
[...]
Support for removable SD cards and tethering have also been left out of the OS. Microsoft claims this to be in the interest of data security for enterprise users. Windows Phone 7 will also not support Silverlight in the web browser or IPsec virtual private network (VPN) security, videocalling, a system-wide file manager, Bluetooth file transfers, and music player equalizers.

Yea I just hope they didn't get it confused with the ROM size... AT&T has a PDF spec sheet that says 256MB. Only time will tell I guess.
Well I emailed Samsung PR again and got a response that makes me weary about the 512MB of RAM email I received. I asked how much ROM space (not storage space) the phone will have and got 8GB. I even stated in the email not to confuse with the 8GB of user storage. So it could in fact have 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM. Man, I hope Microsoft's WP7 website is right.
If that's the case, I may have to get the Surround even though I don't want to...

That's exactly my line of thinking - surround instead of focus if the focus only has 256mb of RAM.
But, watching the videos of the focus it looks as fluid as the other 512mb RAM phones.....maybe 256mb is all you need. Particularly given the fact that the Windows OS spreads across RAM (inc. the memory card).
The Focus will have 512mb not 256mb. This is a specific Microsoft WP7 requirement.

I hope you're right. Because I saw the specs that Microsoft required a minimum of 256MB. AT&T has a spec sheet that shows 256MB as well. I want AT&T to be wrong and MS website to be right.
Every review I've seen today shows only 256mb of ram. With the lack of 3rd party multitasking apps I don't see this as being a major problem. Having said that I would have liked the phone to have 512mb just in case. You can never have too much ram.

You're wrong WP7 specific requirement is 256mb of ram or higher. 8gb of storage or higher. Did you see the keynote 6 months ago. The LG quantum being released on At&t will also have 256mb of ram. The surround will have 512 with 448mb available to the user.

I stand corrected.
Samsung Focus is the phone I want to get without settlling. THe HD7 is a little too big for me, I might as well get a tablet. However like a few people here, I might have to settle for the HTC Surround if the Focus does indeed only have 256MB RAM.
Sure it may be acceptable now with 256MB but MS could release Windows Phone SP1 or SP2 with multitasking enabled. I also know too many iPhone users who will gloat if I get a phone with less RAM than theirs. I am still up in the air and wish the decision were easy if the Focus had 512MB RAM or the Surround had a microSD slot.
If I do get the Surround, it looks like I will need to sell this 32GB microSD card I just purchased..
The thing is Microsoft recently updated their 'at-a-glance' WP7 site to correct inaccuracies and it still shows the Focus at 512MB RAM.
[www dot microsoft dot com/presspass/presskits/windowsphone/glance.aspx]
Yes! Engadget confirmed the RAM is 512MB and the ROM will be 1GB! The Samsung PR lady that emailed me was right.

Also said, unlike any other WP7 phone, you can expand memory using micro sd slot. Only problem is it supposedly wipes your device every time you put one in or take it out. So don't take it out.

Microsoft's website shows the same RAM & ROM. So there's a good chance it will.
Good news indeed. This and the GPS (concerns it would suffer the same as the Galaxy S devices) were the only two things holding me back from this device. Now, November 8th can't get here soon enough.
Let's get some developers in here!!
So far we have!
$60 from me
$30 from chrisrotolo
$60 from jitin02
$20 from zinqzinq
Maybe $60 from Revin lol

+1...........................................................m with u
If it will be usable (so I guess we will have to wait for HC 3.2 anyway) then 60 USD will still be much cheaper than buying new device (not to mention that there is no other 5 inch screen smartphone and no, I am not buying anything with smaller screen ).
So, count me in
Put me down for $30, maybe more for full RC, no bugs.
count me too
My 60us$
and mine 20 cos im student

Ill post up 100.00 if they can fix the volume for bluetooth and aux jack. of all the phones ive tested the bluetooth volume and syc suck along with aux volume output.
id like ice cream or the latest stable build
30USD OR 2 Bitcoin (that should make 200USD now in total paypal alright?) for any honeyc build that has
a) usable, everyday speed
b) Bluetooth phone communication is working
(yes I am happy to wait for whatever 3.x version is workable or available)
question / suspicion tho: in the streak 7 forums I read the insane increase in DPI needed, to make the high res apps usable... the streak 5 might not be able to supply the minimum res....
and AMEN to "I wont buy a smaller screened phone"
DJ_Steve wrote on twitter that he had to set DPI to 80 on Dell Streak 5 to make google apps work in Honeycomb. Streak has default 160, so you can imagine how small everything was
However, I heard that Honeycomb 3.2 should support smaller tablets, so I guess we just have to wait for HC 3.2
And another thing - does somebody now if HC is supporting phone functions at all (call, messages etc.)? I hope that I will be able to make calls with my HoneyStreak
Count me in. 30$, more if it is working well!
Isn't this a bit tacky to say the least? You give what you can most of developers could charge us from the get go and don’t. Plus a bounty for something that does not exist is useless anyways.
GB, HC, etc are dependent on propriety software that Dell is not authorized to release (Dell recently removed GB from their open source web page). Are there ways around it, sure, but a couple hundred bucks for someone to sit down with a blank screen and write the audio code is not going to do it. Have supervised projects that require specialized code to be written; 1. Does not happen overnight 2. More than one writes the code for minimum 8 hours a day for weeks on end. 3. More errors than successes 4. Alpha’s can and will brick your device 5. Beta’s can go through multiple iterations (just think Windows, which version ever came out without constantly needing patches) 6. Just when you think you have it right a life event happens to your key developer. 7. When you release it, people still piss and moan it is not right/what they wanted/what they expected and demand their money back. 8. Could go on, but you get the gist of my discussion.
In closing for this to ever become reality, will require complete HC Alpha (or better) for the Streak 5 from Dell as the start point. Am I crushing dreams, no, just telling you how it is.
Damn audio drivers, if we at least know who is the owner of them.
I see, that HC 3.2 is out and there is support for 7-inch displays (maybe usable on Streak?) and support for Qualcomm chips... maybe it can be ported?
Is there even code for honeycomb that would work on arm?
most of whats been hacked together by steve for s5 is from the sdk, emulator images..
there is no phone support in HC
rather than a silly fund, why not spend the time investigating how to do this for your selves, its android the information is out there for you to find and read..
To tell the truth, I am thinking about it, I have some spare time right now and I just want to try it. But I am not sure if it is even possible or if there is some insolvable problem like with porting MIUI/CM roms (no audio drivers from Dell).
It's threads like this that make you wonder what Dell is thinking. Even with all their screwups, if they got on the stick and provided decent support for this phone they could sell a ton of them. As it is, with this as an example, who would ever buy another Dell phone? I'll nurse this one along simply for the screen real estate and because I love the Google freebies, but I won't ever buy another of their phones.
