I had an incredible for about 2 weeks, I can honestly say if it wasn't for the battery life I would would still have the incredible.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the battery is somewhere between 1250 - 1350 MAH

Battery life goes something like this (I have a pretty old battery though).
About 12PM my fascinate gets to around 50% (heavy usage).
Same exact usage on incredible, it's around 55%.
BUT...when the incredible passes 50% it seems to drain much quicker than the fascinate. I give the nod to the fascinate for battery life at this point, but I don't think the incredible battery life is as bad as people make it out to be. I will be getting an HTC evo battery, which fits in the stock incredible case and lasts longer.

Battery is 1300mah. Evo battery is 1500mah and fits in the stock incredible case (no extended back required).
I pu
lugged in my phone at 9 PM last night when I got go work. It was fully charged by the time I took my lunch break at midnight so I took it off the charger. It is now down to 69% six hours later with very light use at work (web browsing on lunch and breaks as well as when I waited for my car to warm up). A) is that normal? (Running froyo leak/super clean 2.5) b) is the Incredible going to compare to that or be better or worse? I have the opportunity to trade the fascinate for an incredible and I'm still not sure.
Also, I love the AMOLED on the fascinate, will I miss it on the incredible?

My buddy has an incredible with this battery, and he told me it really didn't make much difference. Lasts slightly longer than stock, but probably not worth what he paid for it. Not enough bang for the buck I suppose.
Also, to the guy above me asking about the screen. That same buddy complains about his incredible screen everytime he looks at my fascinate. So, I would assume you would miss it if you switched to the Inc. Fascinate has one of the best screens around in my opinion

To be honest, I prefer the incredible screen over the fascinate screen. Why? Because the colors look more natural (and yes I have the amoled incredible). For example...if you open up the browser on each and go to google, the whites are pure white and look fantastic on the incredible while the whites look very blue on the fascinate. This is after turning auto brightness and power saving mode off. Nothing fixes it.
BUT, the fascinate performs SO much better in sunlight. This is because the incredible has an extra layer of reflective glass.

Well in this particular case the incredible would do better. With very light use, the incredible battery is pretty good. Heavy use it when it's starts draining quick.
Everyone complains about the incredible battery, but it's only slightly worse than the fascinate.

You bumped your head...I've lost count of how many x and incredible users have drooled over my screen. I've even been in line browsing and had them notice it. You look at Cnet, endgadet...all of em, the only competition for it is apple's retina display...period.
Edit: Why is it called "super" amoled...oh yeah, bc it's inferior to regular amoled

Guess you never heard of opinions. If you want to go by specs, then the incredible's screen has a higher PPI, thus better screen.
But I'm going off opinion. I own both. Like I said, the fascinate screen performs so much better than the incredibles in sunlight, but the incredible's looks more natural (especially on whites) and the text is slightly sharper.
Super amoled just removes a layer of glass which is why it's better in sunlight, but for some reason the amoled on the galaxy s phones has a blue tint, while the amoled on incredibles doesn't.
Just opened up the market on each one right next to each other...the blue tint on the galaxy s almost gives it a "washed out" look. The incredible's looks much better in my opinion. Pure whites and the colors all look "separated" and natural rather than covered in a blue tint.

Well imho, I agree with endgadget and all the rest, the clarity and color of the super amoled blows everything else away. I've owned an x, a continuum and the fascinate...the continuum was far the best, but the x was way to dull. Looked at the incredible specifically for the ppi, however it just didn't compare to the fascinates pure wet looking color.

Yeah, the blacks are incredible on this screen. It's amazing how high-quality the SAMOLED is. It really excites me to see what other devices get SAMOLED panels in the next few years.
Can't wait until they drop in price for use on laptops -- not to mention HDTVs.
I've never used an AMOLED in the sun (just used the HTC Incredible indoors). Does anyone know the biggest differences between the two types of screens? SAMOLED eats less power than AMOLED, and has a higher contrast ratio, right? What else is there, really?
yeah, currently my desktop consist of a purely black screen. I have no icons whatsoever. Along with LauncherPro with it's 3d vertical scrolling, it is so friggin classy!!! [email protected][email protected]#$

20% better battery life

Ok, I just recived my second Incredible replacement after the first on had a light red to the white balance verses my original. This second has the same. I notice the contrst is a touch less then the original and the black doesnt seem quire as dark at time when compairing. Also one positive is that it seems a little brighter also thatn the original that I know us amoled. How can I tell if they switched to the Sony super tft display? Its not a huge deal just disapointing after getting used to the amoled. I personaly like that displays color balance better. Just want to knoe why these screens are different.

Im not positive how to tell if its changed or not but I do know that they did get rid of the AMOLED because of the shortages.
From what was announced only the nexus one and desire ee changed to slcd not the incredible.
My gf got a new replacement and hers has a purpleish tint to it when the brightness is low. A lot more noticeable then my phone. Looks like AMOLED though. The blacks are black.

HTC has publicly stated quite the opposite. The N1 and Desire switched to SLCD, but they have no immediate plans to switch the Incredible due to the change in the aforementioned two handsets alleviating the shortage.
htc was originally gonna switch incredible to SLCD, they never stated they WERENT gonna switch it due to affirmed Nexus and Desire switch though.

Look closely at the pixels for the pentile arrangement, if the edges of straight lines look like dotted lines, its still AMOLED. A good place to see it is to pull down the notification shade, and look at the edge of the O where it says Ongoing, with the pentile matrix on the AMOLED screen you can tell the O is jagged and not smooth.
Was wondering this too, my little brother just got an incredible and it looks fine in sunlight like my evo when they are both at full brightness. I also noticed that like the evo, on HTC.com the type of screen is not listed, just says touch sensitive display. Just last week it said amoled. He just got the phone this past Wednesday, the hardware version is 002.
After many phonecalls and internet research I found out they did change the screen to slcd. The sku with vw2 notes this. The amoled defintly has a better color balance but if you did know this you might not notice. Shame I think I am sticking with my original even thought the switch can be flakey at times.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
002 is the normal amoled. BTW, VZW got a froyo build that listed "LCD support" in the change logs, so they are at least preparing for the switch in case it ever does come.

I'm on 3rd (hope last) inc due to warranty issues. Second was brand new, but had to wait due to backorder in June.
This latest one was a refurb, but looks and acts like a new one. I had some initial concerns, though. Just like the earlier poster, this has a purplish tint on the grays when using a setting dimmer than about 50%. I may not have noticed it if I hadn't had the other ones first. It's noticeable, but something I can live with. In any case, the display is crisp and clear, and the effect goes away as the brightness is turned up.
Awesome phone; even better thanks to XDA forums.

Too bad Samsung is holding those internally for up to a year in their own phones. By the time they release SAMOLED screens to other companies they've probably got something better already.
I don't worry about AMOLED vs sLCD because I got one of the engineering prototypes with AMOP technology (Active-Matrix Organic Plasma). Makes the production-run screens look like etch-a-sketch by comparison!
I'll be skruud if I ever brick it tho
I can see pixels...clearly...even l looks jagged...and I'm typing while laying on my belly, and I wear glasses but I can still see them...onmy hero it wasn't so easy to see the pixels, but then again, it might just be that I expected pixels to standout on the hero screen so it didn't bother me as much.
But still, these SAMOLED's aren't as good as they're hyped upto be...
Well, no. I lied. The screens are brilliant, but just a lil short of expectations. I.e. the fact that my white seems tan unless brightness is up past 50% (although the screen is still very bright even at 0, its just an annoying tint :[ )and it doesn't seem to me that the blacks are indeed pixels that are turned off...but then again, my eyes are silly.

Hah guys, you don't even have to really look for it. It's just more evident at times than other times. It's constantly, CONSTANTLY, mentioned and its a draw back of the SAMOLED displays. It's normal, just like the over saturated colors. The display is beautiful when viewing media, other times it can be an issue, or more of an annoyance for some. You don't have to look hard, you don't need a "microscope" as someone mentioned, it's there. Anyone can see it.
Some folks want to act like their Evo is perfect, some want to running their Epic is perfect. Sadly, either, are not. It's not just the Epic, it's the display. It's a fact. A known fact.

Yeah, the "screendoor effect" is a issue that comes with Super Amoled screens.
But to be honest, I've never noticed or cared about it. Yes, if I look VERY closely I can see the pixely effect, but is it a problem? No. Do I even notice it on a daily basis? No.
The pure brilliance of the super amoled completely over weighs the downfalls in my opinion. Putting the Epic next to the Evo, the screen murders the Evos washed out LCD screen. I prefer super amoled even to the Iphone4s retina display.
But I've seen lots of people whine about how bad the pixels are on the s.amoled. And if you can't deal with it, the Epic isn't the phone for you, since its not something that can be changed easily.
I used the Voodoo screen fix, which DOES improve the level of visible pixelation, and smooths it out a great deal, but the screen is so horribly yellow at 0% that I can't use it.

I hope this is a joke...
Anyway, the screendoor effect of this screen combined with the lower number of subpixels steered me away at first. The Evo is much better for sharpness/accuracy, but the novelty of OLED is hard to beat. I ordered an Epic anyway, had to have the processor.
The way i look at it, it all comes down to preference.
There is no perfect technology for these little (or larger)panels yet.
It is almost like comparing Plasmas to LED LCD's, one has advantages and disavantages over the other. (ex: screen burn in, refresh rate, or contrast ratio over brightness)
On android handsets I myself prefer AMOLED for its vibrant colors(but not so accurate), excellent blacks levels and all around even viewing angles.
Now when looking at all current technologies i would say that Apple takes the cake.
The iPhone 4 has a fantastic LCD w/ IPS screen, but the trade off is that it is only available on the iPhone, and it is only offered at a 3.5" inch size.
The pixel density on the retina display is unmatched at that size, and i would take a 4'' inch LCD w/ IPS + higher pixel density + gorilla glass over SAMOLED any day. I would recommend you walk into a store and compare the Epic with iPhone 4 side by side, and you will see what i mean.
Just my .2 cents.

Not in terms of deep blacks or contrast, AMOLED also has the EDGE on the colors.
But yeah, the iPhone screen is gorgeous and as i said before, i would take that technology over AMOLED, at least till it is a bit more refined.

Yes, true, size is better ... obviously. But colors? Sometimes the SAMOLED display looks fake. I'm over my past apple phase but yes, the display is truer in every sense of the word. Not saying you, specifically, but you all act like your Epic is perfect when fact, it has more flaws than the Evo. At times that screen is gorgeous, but through and through and in the long run I would still take the Evo display over the Epic's.

I chose the Epic over the Evo mainly for 3 things:
Camera, GPU and overall performance, as the Evo stinks on those 3 areas.
Other than that i would have chose the the Evo, i don't care too much for the AMOLED as long as the LCD is of decent quality and calibrated properly.
A selling point which is the hardware keyboard is almost useless to me, and it is not used 90% of the time.
I also see what you mean about colors looking fake at times, but i think some of that could be fixed if the display is calibrated properly.
I still think AMOLED has the potential to show deeper blacks than LCD's but i guess i could be wrong since i am not an expert in the subject, just a personal observation.
You see a penis?
Hey, its a fact about the screen. I just find it funny when I browse the Epic section and see people busting a nut over their phone. They act like its better than the Evo. Only category it trumps it is in the GPU category. And for the non gamers, read ; majority, that isnt important. The screen gets too much love too, which I thought was the point here. Somethig I noticed immediately and am amazed every Epic owner hasn't noticed at some point. If not week 1.
And trying to rationalize the lack of 2.2, which I've seen a lot around here, is a sad state to find yourselves in.
The latter has nothing to do with the OP or the matter at hand ... but it fits you all quite well.

Terms of a camera, if you're a serious shooter you don't use your phone ... you have a legit shooter. We know ratings don't mean much and yes, your camera is better ... marginally. Way some talk I'd think it was leagues ahead of the Evo's ... which it isn't.

UI performance all around is laggy on the Evo (i have used both side by side) and that is even running on Froyo 2.2.
Camera performance on both photo and video quality mode are a pathetic joke as well, the Camera on the Epic is much more usable.
This illustrates my point well, check it out:

I would say the Epic is a pretty good replacement for casual photo taking.
Gonna assume you didnt see the double post, which I'm ashamed of. Phone cameras are good for shooting silly pictures of anything from your baby puking on himself or your drunk friend passed out with his junk out.
If camera quality is so important to anyone they have a shooter. I have admitted, and will forever admit you have the better cam quality between the two phones. Doesn't mean anything though, to be honest, for the majority.

What other phones are you talking about here?

Hell I like the screen on this phone even more than the one on the galaxy s 2. The galaxy s 2's screen just doesn't look as nice and the colors are weird. Maybe its cause of that blueish tint. And the low resolution on that bug of a screen? Eww

Older phones like the HTC HD2 couldn't match our phones AMOLED display, but when your talking about the new Galaxy S2, or even a phone like the HTC Amaze both have fascinating displays.
I've compared them side by side and i personally think our phones have more of a yellowish tint that isn't so great.

You shouldn't be comparing a new phone to an older phone in the first place, chances are the new one will always be better.

This is true, but call me crazy I thought my G2 had a better display. and the HTC Evo was pretty sweet..
It's just something about this offset yellowish tint. The whites never seen pure, although i'll give it the black is definantly more black than an LCD.
don't you guys have voodoo control center to tweck colors?

Burn-in, image retention, colors degrading with time my god there are so many issues with SAMOLED screens I personally dont feel that super amazing contrast is worth all that.
It seems with the galaxy S and nexus S the problems werent as huge as they have become with the SGS2, galaxy note and galaxy nexus. With an LCD phone if there is a problem it will be manufacturing problem and not something that would develop after several months.
It seems with every new generation of SAMOLED screen the image quality is getting better but the problems are getting worse. LCD's on the other hand are only getting better with no problems.
I think if samsung is unable to improve on the SAMOLED tech then they should just suspend it for now until they can improve it. Samsung makes the beautiful LCD on my nexus S, samsung also provides HTC with the screen of the HTC one X which is widely regarded as the best smartphone screen. Samsung also makes the screen of the ipad 3. Samsung obviously knows how to make an LCD thats better than the competition if they were to make one for their own flagship.
So what is your opinion on the matter?
people buy galaxy series for amoled screen so i dont think samsung ever going to stop making them..and as per anandtech review of htc one x display make is sony...

Alright, first of all, it's not amoled's problem. it is the pentile technology. it lowers the screen res because it shares sub pixels. However, the galaxy s ii uses AMOLED PLUS, the PLUS means it's like LCD, uses RGB layout, with superb colour contrast along with high res graphics, no pentile ruining the details. so just be patient until AMOLED HD PLUS comes out. It will have: High Res, No pentile, High Contrast. Believe me, it will be 100x better than the One X.

But this doesn't sort out (mainly):
-Unnatural colours which need severe and constant attention as individual OLED lifetimes progress
-Strong possibility of burn in and an effectively similar effect (due to OLED lifetimes as above)
-Generally weak outdoors
I'm not sold on either path for the long term, but there is no denying LCDs in the current day have blown past practically all of their disadvantages. The only benefit i see of OLED technology in the foreseeable future is the ability to produce a "true" black (and lower power consumption as a result). While this is an awesome benefit, there is more far bad than good beyond this.
I'm unsure how far engineering can take OLEDs though. If we're hitting the peak of the bell curve i'd have to agree with the OP. Otherwise, competition and choice is good.
After using a samoled screen I could NEVER go back to the washed out colors of a standard led. I have yet to see any type of burn in on my screen. 90% of it's life will be with screen off anyway so really who cares.

Go to att store and look at the HTC one x screen. Come back and report that it screen is washed out....
This tech of display was a junk which has used on benq-Siemens mobile phone five years ago.
However, Samsung bought this from someone who develop this screen and keeping develop until now. The problems still don't fix:thumbdown::thumbdown:
In my eyes, Samoled looks really gorgeous and can't live without it. But that's just my opinion.

No need to go that far, the i9023's SC-LCD is a stunning looking display. My Nexus S easily stands its ground next to my brothers new GNex (which happily doesn't have strong yellow/green tints stock, which makes me like his more than most OLEDs). Considering that it is close, the only benefit his has is definitely the black contrast (big benefit no doubt). Nothing else is particularly noteworthy above the other.
But i can leave my screen on all day knowing it will be just as pretty as always.
Heck even the nexus S i9023 has such a great LCD in my opinion. The colors are more saturated than an iphone 4 but not so much as SAMOLED which in my opinion is the best balance. It's also so visibly sharper and much better whites. If nexus S had retina pixel density then the SC-LCD could match the one X to be honest.
The advantages of SAMOLED are,
Pure blacks
Fastest response time
A smaller footprint which helps in making phones lighter and thinner
Now to me only the first one is a major advantage. But is it worth all the problems? I really dont think so.

Yes exactly when I first used the gnexus I thought it's going to blow away the display on my nexus S but it really didnt. I preferred the colors on nexus S and it was also visibly brighter at full brightness.
The gnexus does destroy it in black level but then the nexus S LCD does the same to the gnexus when you compare whites, they were simply horrible on the gnexus. I am really surprised google went with a white background in the messaging app, it not only looks bad on the gnexus but would kill battery as well.

Here in the states it is rare to see people with a nexus period. Most that you do see are the sprints. Chances of a 9023 are basically nil.
But yeah if you know someone with a phone that has a good LCD check it out. Or just go down to the store and look. Better yet wait till sprint stores in the us put its version on HTC one x on display. Use that side by side with gnex
That last part was to the person that said LCD sucks. Not harbb
I find it really interesting that most of the people commenting in the thread seem to prefer LCD, but the poll dominates for SAMOLED.
Good point albundy, and i know what you were saying I've never actually seen an i9020A/T/4G myself so i can't compare them to the GNex and i can't remember the last time i saw an SGS around here.
As the poll is worded quite nicely, i think i'll actually vote for once. Too many polls are black and white, nicely played Gambler.
edit: Polls are just that, polls. Just as many people said cpuidle saved more battery than deep idle (i think for quite a while it was more in favor of cpuidle). Look at how that turned out
Back when I would edit photos on my nexus. I really wanted the exact right shade for my eyes on the picture.
Well after I edited the photo on my nexus, upload it to Book it was diffdnt

Guys, I had a Nexus S i9023 (LCD), and my dad has a i9020T (samoled), and all i can say is that I wish I had his phone... the colors look MUCH MUCH MUCH nicer on a Samoled man!!!!!!!
Coming from a G2, the colors on the NS look much nicer. My phone has a minor blue line where the status bar is, but you really can't see it unless you concentrate on that area. The only reason I saw it was because of some friggin' super white background on some webpage
even if they look nicer they are still fake.
fake is not cool.

Heh. Maybe. I enjoy looking at them. Had I been serious about taking photos, I'd probably get an actual camera.
