I know that the droid 2 doesn't have a front facing camera, but what are all those circles up top? I know one is the led, ambient light, and proximity sensor, but what is that fourth one? It kinda looks like one, has anyone tried a modified software with video chat?

I know the two circles on the left are the ambient light and proximity sensors but I'm not sure what the little one is bellow the led

Does anyone else see the camera thing in the upper left of the G2? Looks like a camera to me.... It's not easy to see but it's there. Sorry if this has been brought up before...
What do you know about the front camera?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
That's probably the proximity sensor.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The G2 does not have one. That is the poximity sensor and light sensor I believe.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Uhmmmm.....I don't have a G2 but im pretty shure what your seeing is the proximity sensor for the phones screen to turn off when you put it up to your face.
Nah its light sensor and proximity sensor. Sorry

it would have been sweet if it was a camera to do chat and stuff but no, its a sensor
This is exactly what I said when I first received the phone, I was just hoping I was wrong and when we started rooting this device and looked at the internals, we found a FFC.
If it was just empty space, I'm sure one of the hackers here would have installed one just like the Samsung Vibrant.
I'm always amazed at how tolerant this community is of sheer stupidity.
So there is no led light... but other then the front facing camera on the front of my phone, there is another light or something on the top left. What is that for? Or am I an idiot? Lol

Could be the proximity sensory
Ambient light sensor for the auto-brightness.
Sent from my Nexus S
Both parts are for the proximity sensor?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Left hole (circle) is for the proximity sensor. Right hole (oval kinda) is for ambient light sensor. Hope this helps!
The LED light is on the back of the phone next to the Camera. LOL

He's talking about a notification LED, not the camera flash.

Hello!
Now that we have root, I'd like to know if we can in some way modify the notification light so that it uses the led on the homescreen led?
Would be so much better then the one on the side!

Didnt even know we had one on the front

Well it's gonna be pretty hard, since there's no LED on the front, only an ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor....
I think maybe the OP means the lights between the buttons on the homescreen.

There is too a led light on the front.
There behind the home button!
I would LOVE THIS!!!
Yea lol I thought normally things see on the top yea the bottom lights would be amazing but camy see it been done really

Im using the application "Light Flow" from the market on my play
although it only does the light on the top of the phone it is useful for it to flash different colours.
Don't beleve the ambient light is a multicolor led anyways...

Pretty sure its not, but it would be so awsome if the led behind the homekey could just light up whenever something hapened. that way i could just have it in the dark at home and see if it lights up at all time without having to turn it the right way.
whatsapps does have the features to use different colour side led when a new notification arrived....
Blink - Just search on the Market for it =)

yup whatsapp can change the colour of the side LED for notification
I had BLN on my SGS Captivate. It would be awesome to find a way to do the same with the front button lights on the Arc.

I noticed a weird light being emitted from proximity sensor when I entered the stock Samsung messaging app. It looks like it could be an infrared light coming from the sensor, but it's faintly visible to the naked eye. I thought I would take a video of it to show what I'm talking about. It's more apparent in the video than what you actually see. You can see it yourself in a dark room.
Has this been addressed? Does anybody know why this is happening?
isnt it looking to see if you move the phone to your ear in the messaging app so it can do the call feature?
I noticed this on mine last night. It's not like that right now though
I have the Motorola Atrix and when I use the proximity sensor, it does the same thing, glows a very very dim red, only visible in a dark room. Guessing that's how that sensor works in a generic way.

You have the eye tracking on? I just assumed it was that.
SwiftKeyed on my Sprint Galaxy SIII...
Mine does the same thing. It's for the direct call feature for texting. If you turn direct call off in your motion settings you won't see it anymore.

Doh... I feel silly for posting this now... Well, at least we have some sort of visual proof of it?
Haha no worries dude. Really easy to over look the little things! I was curious when I first saw it on mine as well.

I don't think mine's ever done this before and I've enabled smart stay before.
i have that as well...noticed it a few days ago..didn't think much of it
It's direct call for texting. Really it's anything that uses the proximity sensor. Smart stay uses the front facing camera.

Major find people.
The proximity sensor that we have is in fact light sensor / proximity sensor combo.
Its name is GP2A
Samsung disabled light sensor (in kernel) probably by either modifying drivers to exclude the light part or by removing driver completly
I managed to find kernel driver for this sensor (from some unknown device), which link you can find below:
http://o2droid.phj.hu/trac/browser/kern_oII/drivers/sensor/optical/gp2a.c?rev=2
So kernel devs, rock on!!!
maclaw and all devs should know this.
hope it works this kernel driver :fingers-crossed:, the s3 mini should be factory the auto brightness
Great there is still hope for light sensor !! Just inform devs

Thank you for the info ppero196, this is most pleasant news...cheers buddy....who knows, maybe samsung gonna include the driver is some future update

Thanks for the info!
Haha I can't believe it, that link refers to a Omnia2Droid page! It's an old team who ported Android 2.1/2.2 to the Omnia 2/Pro (WinMo 6.x devices) years ago, I had one of those with that buggy droid installed
Edit for developers - that driver comes from a Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica (Android 2.1),a device launched in 2009
Edit2 - found this driver from google https://android.googlesource.com/ke...2929fc99325ee399fd9/drivers/input/misc/gp2a.c
and this one,the most recent one https://bitbucket.org/sarcastillo/redpillkernel/src/990eb0053acb/drivers/input/misc/gp2a.h
Woooo, hope at last!

1. Don't get so excited. Even if it's light sensor also, other hardware parts can still prevent us from using light sensor function.
2. Galaxy Spica doesn't have any proximity/light sensor - I have a Spica
3. Drivers which you attached are completely useless on Jellybean & 3.x kernels.
Sure, getting working something completely broken by Samsung is most important for me at this moment...
It isn't so easy to get light sensor working, I'm not sure if it is possible.
But we will look into it and check it out.

Ok, just 10 minutes in Google and:

Samsung didn't cut a hole for light part of our sensor... So there's no way for getting it working
Well there was a hope...

I think it's very hard. If I not wrong, Samsung's AMOLED panel is in one piece with the capacitive buttons and the sensors and the front speaker except camera. so I think it's hard to make a hole on it
Wait...s3 has 2 holes and has light sensor. WTF?!!!

I thing there is no chance to get it working :/ I had dismantle my s iii mini and looked on the sensor and there is only proximity. I am refer to pdf from New Macław's post. If you open it you will see on first page two types os senzors.I thing tahet we have the "Upper left" type and there is no ambient part :/

Since you dismantled the phone, what processor and sound chip it uses?

It says the proximity sensor is combined with light sensor, part number cm3623. Galaxy s4 mini has only 3 holes on front panel, 2 for proximity and 1 for front camera. But it HAS light sensor and auto brightness. My question is: Is it possible that it uses the IR sensor part of the proximity sensor for light sensor? I think it is.

There is a lightsensor too
why?
on the phone two black holes have the side of the camera
and on call screen
press *#7353# about it when the menu comes
there is light sensor settings to the test
