I noticed a weird light being emitted from proximity sensor when I entered the stock Samsung messaging app. It looks like it could be an infrared light coming from the sensor, but it's faintly visible to the naked eye. I thought I would take a video of it to show what I'm talking about. It's more apparent in the video than what you actually see. You can see it yourself in a dark room.
Has this been addressed? Does anybody know why this is happening?
isnt it looking to see if you move the phone to your ear in the messaging app so it can do the call feature?
I noticed this on mine last night. It's not like that right now though
I have the Motorola Atrix and when I use the proximity sensor, it does the same thing, glows a very very dim red, only visible in a dark room. Guessing that's how that sensor works in a generic way.

You have the eye tracking on? I just assumed it was that.
SwiftKeyed on my Sprint Galaxy SIII...
Mine does the same thing. It's for the direct call feature for texting. If you turn direct call off in your motion settings you won't see it anymore.

Doh... I feel silly for posting this now... Well, at least we have some sort of visual proof of it?
Haha no worries dude. Really easy to over look the little things! I was curious when I first saw it on mine as well.

Wow I have never noticed this before, haha pretty cool

I don't think mine's ever done this before and I've enabled smart stay before.
i have that as well...noticed it a few days ago..didn't think much of it
It's direct call for texting. Really it's anything that uses the proximity sensor. Smart stay uses the front facing camera.

Well I just replaced my arias digitizer, all works well besides making and receiving calls. My screen will turn black and be unresponsive, I can be heard by the other person but on my end my phone is unresponsive. I would have to take out the battery to get it to respond, which is ridiculous. This has been an issue for many people and I want to get to the bottom of it. All help is welcomed, thank you.
There is a tiny rubber cover for the proximity sensor that needs to be there for it to work properly. It is easy to lose when you replace the screen.

Currently I am messing with it and I've tried many things. Could you possibly describe it, much appreciated.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
It is a little rubber thing, square on one side and round on the other, with a hole through it. It fits over the proximity sensor to focus it through the round window on the glass.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Well apparently I must have put my earpiece in wrong too and I can't hear anything during a call. Many thanks if you can tell me how it goes in.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I resolved the speaker issue. now its just the damn sensor, i cant wake from calls :/. To be exact, what does the proximity sensor look like and which tiny window does it "see" through?
Right next to the speaker are two little sensors. The closest to the speaker is the proximity sensor and the other one is the light sensor. Above these on the glass are two round windows.
Sent from my Liberty using Tapatalk
If you search around on here, someone posted a hack for disabling the proximity sensor. This will enable you to make calls, but you will obviously lose the sensor function.
Sent from my Liberty using Tapatalk
I have seen that thread about disabling it, I'm trying to keep that as very last resort. Well does the sensor look like a tiny little chip?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Yes, it has a little circular 'eye' on it.

Thank you. I'll continue to mess with it. Btw, what do you know about the gingerbread development? Anything about the aria?

My flash led fluctuates when I take a photo or use it as a flashlight. Anyone else facing the same issue?
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Not for me...tried both camera and flashlight.
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
Yeah I experience this also when I'm recording video while the flash is on.. But it works well when I'm using this on my flashlight app..
I've had the issue before.... I thought I was seeing things cuz of the quick flickerings
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
Yes I have it too.
I haven't taken any videos with flash but the flashlight does it, sometimes it's steady but I notice it half of the time.
Gosh. Too many problems. I wouldn't have spend this much for a defective phone. I'm disappointed.
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Every LED flash does this. There's nothing wrong.
I think you didn't understand. It flickers while using the flashlight or while it's in use. I know that while taking a photo it will flash once for autofocus. I'm not referring to that.

It is normal. The LED flash for every phone I've used does the exact same thing, jittering and flickering a little bit when keeping the flash on like when using it as a flashlight. My X10 did the same thing, but it's only slight flickering, nothing major. 100% normal, they aren't meant to be kept on for any large amount of time.
Mine does the same thing if I leave the flashlight on for more than 30 seconds
Sent from my R800
Hahah mine does the same thing but I suppose it was never supposed to be a flashlight.
I was thinking it was something to do with the quick succession flash it is supposed to deliver normally.
So has anyone else LED turned blue? Mine is really, really blue.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium
Iirc the n1 has a teal blue led as well as a dark blue one. What seems to be the issue?
sent from the passengers side of my best friend's ride tryna holla at you.
Its the camera flash LED. It used to be pure white. The one day I noticed it had turned blue. Pictures taken with the flash on a blue washed if you will. That's the only minor issue. It doesn't bother me much. Just curious to see if anyone else's had done the same.

oohhh the camera flash LED i though you were talking about the led ball on the front side of the phone haha.
so when the flash activates for a picture, instead of flashing white it flashes a blue-ish light now? i havent experienced that issue personally myself, sorry
Yeah it flashes blue and in a darkish area when taking pictures it causes the pictures to come out bluish. Like I said, just curious if I'm the only one or if it is something others are experiencing. Doesn't bother me too much.

My Desire is the same now. I blame it on me using the flashlight on Death ray mode too often. I assume its half burned out.

Lol! That makes sense I do the same.

Rarely use it as a flashlight; instead I use a bright screen via 'Color Flashlight' app. Mine is still white.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA
Well I found it hard not to use it since it is better than any flashlight I have owned and didn't drain the battery much for the amount I was using it. Better than worrying if your flashlight battery is going to die (no gauge on them)

Abuse the led and it will start dying, big surprise. I suspect walmart has better flashlights than the N1's led, but any decent flashlight will kill it on both flexibility (low to full output), battery life, and of course output.
Look up Fenix. Cheap, work well. Get a 10 pack of 123 batteries online for $15 and it'll last you 5 years or more.
I find the camera always worked better in well lit areas without use of the flash anyways so I don't blame the phone for the led burning out and it doesn't bother me that much. At least it still works.
Sent from my MildWild for Desire using XDA
Lol yeah same here. I got me a surefire 1000 lumen led flashlight now. Brighter than anything I've ever seen. But the blue led looks cool on my Nexus lol.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda premium
After using it for a while and after the LED gets hot, its color will distort. It is a problem with the bulb itself and not any other hardware, such as the plastic piece that covers it. It is a result of age; therefore, there is no way to 'fix' the issue other than just to finally upgrade to a new device or replace the bulb if even possible.
I use my LED flash as a flashlight at max brightness and mine still is not blue yet, wonder why mines seems to be more durable...
I saw a cover for the nexus 7 that said it turns the screen off and on with the closing and opening of the screen. I assume it's done with the light sensor. Is there any way to dk it with the gt?
Sent from my GT-P3113 using XDA Premium HD app
those use the proximity sensor, and we don't have one so unfortunately no there is no way to set that up.
Its not the proximity sensor, its some sort of magnetic sensor. It does it if you have a small magnet in the right place on the case. As we do not have such a sensor on the tab, we cannot do the same thing.
In theory, you could write an app that turns off screen depending on what the light sensor senses

maybe on your 3100 but I installed this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5vbWQuYXV0b3NjcmVlbm9uIl0. that uses the proximity sensor to wake the screen and it said there wasn't one on my 3113. All I have is the camera and a light sensor.

This works, however if you are using screen timeout, its not saving you much since it just turns the screen off, it does not put the device to sleep. It does function as an auto on / off for the screen. I found it very quirky , sometimes it works when I close the cover, sometimes it does not. Unfortunately there is no sensor calibration. I want to test it to see if it actually uses extra battery in order to keep the sensor alive. Also, its a bit flaky if you use some of the advanced features like turning on and off airplane mode.
Thanks. I didn't know about the magnet.

No need to write such an app. There are several on the play store that do exactly that.
However I've tried them all and I can' get any to work properly using CM10. Others may have better luck.
Use smartcover from android market. It works very well.

My pictures don't have such white lines. Maybe it is just a bug of your camera app? Try a different camera app and look if your white lines are still present

yes i mean the two white lines on the edge of the photo. it usually happens when taking pictures in dark environments. i also have camera zoom fx on my phone and tried that and the lines still appear.
anyone else have this issue?

I am. It seems to be a bug cuz it happens randomly. Can't really replicate it. Tends to happen after messing with zoom.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I had several pictures get funky on me the other day after messing with the zoom. sucks because they were of my little boys birthday, no idea what happens
Same issue on both of my phones and it happens with my friend as well. I figured out a way to reproduce this. Turn flash off and take the image in low light. For example with the room lights off and just the lighting of your monitor will do it. The darker the better. Doing it this way seems to trigger it 8-9/10 times. My friend tested while at work with office, but was still able to trigger it taking pictures of a picture of the serial number on the bottom of his laptop. No zooming was used.
The lines that come up on the right are always 2nd, 3rd, or 4th pixel from the right. On some occasions I have been able to get it to come up as the 2nd and 4th at the same time. On the left side it seems to always come up between the 16th and 20th pixel from the left. I will have to look closer at all of the images to confirm it is always like this.
I am not even sure what to do now...
Thanks for bringing it up.
I just noticed it as well.
I'm also seeing this! bugs the **** out of me!

Kinda odd that since the 4.2.2 update I have begun to experience this bug for the first time as well.
Anyone notice this issue on any other camera app besides the stock?
I hadn't noticed, but mine does the exact same thing. I could always crop that out I guess...
What's worse is the blurring effect I get. You really see it on the hand and ear. Anybody have this or know how to fix? Stock, rooted. Happens on 4.2.1 and 4.2.2

Turn off HDR. Since it averages three images, it's not good for moving subjects
Just tested it on Camera Zoom FX app using TTZip's steps and was able to reproduce the problem there too. Could this be considered a hardware defect?
Also experiencing this.
