[Q] HD2 Multitouch Issues - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

hi i have been have a very big problem with the multitouch on the HD2 running in android NAND the best way of showing this is using the app multitouch visualizer 2 which is free on the market its shows that when the touching two points on the screen when two axis become near each other from the vertical axis or the horizontal it will move both points that are being touched
is anyone working on this problem and if so are you working on more than 2 point multitouch for the HD2 android

You should post this in the right section Android Q&A

The multi touch is a known issue. There are debates on whether or not the HD2 supports more than two fingers also, but that is irrelevant right now, as two finger multi touch doesn't even work properly. However we also don't know if it is the HD2 that simply can't handle the two finger touch or is it the drivers.
Now iunno if anyone is actually even going to bother with the problem as the only times the problem is an annoyance, is during gaming, but that is, gaming with a joystick and etc. So I don't think devs are actually going to bother with a problem they don't even know whether its the device or software.

ah...
but since it only support two touch i think mine got a lil bit problem with 2 touch,
like it will get trouble when i am trying to put 2nd touch... like playing gt game, which im breaking it also react my steering that makes me unable to play it...
so it is cant be fix then?
thank for the information then

The hd2 can only support 2 touches, there is no problem with axis inversion , although when the two points are close to each other they lock and that is a hardware problem

No, can't be fixed. When the touch touches are near the same axis, they will both show touches on the same axis. Pretty sure it's a hardware problem. This is one of the big points I always tell people when they're trying to decide between HD2 and a native android phone, along with the fact the HD2 screen is only 56,000 colors compared to 4million a native device has.

well if it is a hardware problem can some one give me a link to a source that shows this

I'm not about to dig up old threads about the touchscreen driver development or irc logs... any of the devs that have worked on drivers for the touchscreen have said this. I remember seeing cotulla discussing it in irc sometime in the last few months. Touchscreen is not going to get any better than it is right now... there has been a lot of work on it over the last year and a half.

i resume this thread to notice that isn't an android issue... it happend on windows mobile also.. and is irritating..

There is definitely axis inversion and a few other bugs.

The Hd2 is single-touch and pinch-to-zoom.
It was never intended to have multitouch or android.

well... let this multitouch be for pinch to zoom only but this issue is disturbing while normal tapping on the keyboard.... You tap next letter of your word and You don't release the previous letter so this "next" letter won't be recieved. The touch runs between my fingers, look :

It is not single touch, it dual touch not true multitouch axis inversion is happening in the video as they are putting the fingers to code to the edge of the screen so its messing up.

Is the keyboard multi-touch? Many keyboards aren't and can only receive a single input at a time so even if you type really quickly, you need to make sure you left one finger completely off the screen before typing the next. I can type pretty fast using the HTC_IME that comes with multi-touch. I mean, you can't hit "shift+a" to get a capital "A" but you can hit a key before letting go of another key and the keyboard will still pick up the correct keystrokes most of the time.

Dual touch mode allows a two sensor system to track the absolute location of two simultaneous events provided that they are located in different regions of the screen.
What you mean is Dual Control or Gesture Input aka pinch-to-zoom.

When I was using MDJ_FroYo_Revolution_v._2.1_NAND, i think, Multitouch was doing well. There were no such thing like multitouch problem, even while crossing the fingers. Now I'm using BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA GINGER 2.3.3_V10 and I have problem with multitouch. I'm 100% sure that I was using some ROM with well working multitouch. Maybe someone should check it?
Sorry for poor English...
Edit: I was not MDJ_FroYo_Revolution_v._2.1_NAND. When i figure out, I will make a video for a prove.

where is the proof?

Honestly i have no problems with multitouch either using Gingerbread .
There s a couple other things that are a lil quirky but nothing that would make it unusable

[Q] HD2's Multitouch Visible Test

Nexus One has the multitouch problem. it's axis and coordination are a bit off when using multitouch.
I was never able to confirm this on my device because I was always on WiinMo; However, we have android now -d
Using the Android "Multitouch Visible Test" application from marketplace, I've noticed that everything seems to be working find on the HD2 and I am not getting any weird results.
Can anyone else confirm how theirs is doing?

the hd2's touch screen really is impressive. as far as i can tell its just as good as the iphones touch screen.
i remember from having a g1 which used a cheaper capacitive screen only being able to register 2 points as long as they wernt on the same horizontal or vertical plane, if yuou did it would average out to the middle between the 2 fingers. so it wasnt a true multi touch screen.
can i remind you guys that this is development, this really belongs in the android general, or even q and a.
this forum really is getting littered with posts that do not belong, and its making finding usefull info difficult

This issues is known by some HTC HD2. The installed display are not the same.
The problem is on Windows Mobile as well. I've tested other HD2 in Market, they dont have this issues.
Multitouch is great.
But when i play nova and have two touch dots on same y axis (in landscape) both dots move together along the y axis.
So when im moving with left pad and trying to look up on left ped im having problems.
I moved the walk and look pads in NOVA on different axis. But its harder to play that way than its originaly intended.
my HD2 in this test works wery well no faults with axis and lag is almost invisible
I have the same issues! ..the thing is.. i can't fix it.. there's no HTC in my country! if i send it by mail i would risk it would brake or never see it again!

HD2 Multi Touch?

Sorry that I keep asking noob questions today! I was wondering does the HD2 have multi touch in Android? Dont really care about Windows mobile. For stuff like pinch to zoom in browser or games like Nova with need multi touch?
Thanks.
Pinch to zoom on browser, maps ect. Yes.. as far as the game Idk..

afaik multitouch on hd2 with android works pretty good everywhere. cant remember any games in particular, but it works everywhere else that it should work
runningdap said:
well, the answer is both yes and no...
hd2's captive screen allows multitouch, but because winmo is a really old OS they didn't really updated it so that it supports multitouch 100%.
On the other hand, if you run android on hd2, you can see multitouch working pretty good though.

Great thanks to both of you that is great to hear! If someone wants to tell me it works in games too I would be super happy. Not just Nova that was just the first multi touch game that came to mind.
multitouch works with newton cradle at least.
HD2 Does not support True multi touch. As you can see when you touch both finger on screen then when both finger on the same line your multi touch will freeze. USe market multitouch visulisation 2 to test it and you will know what i mean.
i think it assumes two fingers but more it doesn't work. does desire hd solve this isue?

Yes, the DHD is able to recognize up to 4 fingers and thus 4 different moves.
That's because of the built in clearpad 3000. It even supports up to ten fingers. But this depends on the driver.

Multitouch problems...

Hi,
how is your experience with multitouch on the HD2? For me many games with multitouch don't work correct. Multitouch zooming works, but also doesn't really really work perfect.
How is your experience? Is this a hardware problem of the HD2 as WM6.5 didn't support multitouch so this wasn't necessary? Or is this a driver problem that might be improved by other WP7 roms?

WP7 is designed for 4 point multitouch and the HD2 is only 2 point. Just dont put your fingers so close together.
For me it doesn't even really work with 2 Fingers. When I have a game where i have to press a "button" for right and another "button" on the other end of the screen to jump this doesn't really work...

I personally think its very unlikely you will get any fix, the reason being, we are not ment to have this on our devices, we have slight differences to our phones that will complicate things. Multitouch its self is very different on teh HD2, being only 2 fingers.
WP7 isnt like WM, as it stands you cant chop and change ROMS, to make newer/more stable ones

ir's not 4 point we're going for, it's stable working 2 point that we want. By the time 4 point is actually useful and common, all of the current WP7 devices will have obsolete hardware anyways

The digitizer itself is limited to two point multi-touch. Its a hardware limitation not a software one, and it isn't anything that can be patched with a driver.

Did you actually read that post? The proof in that post is the word of some random customer service rep. While every actual developer who has worked with the HD2 touchscreen, including cotulla, who wrote the drivers for android port, have said that they are sure that it's a hardware limitation of 2 point multitouch.
Ok, sry. I just took a quick look at it, but anyways, the driver for WP7 is a bit buggy when using 2 fingers.
On my device it often jumps back and forth...
I find it truly amazing anyone would be interested in WP7 on the HD2 without a usable multitouch at least partly working. Having to press both fingers on the screen at exactly the same time makes playing even the most simple multitouch games almost impossible and even browsing and photo viewing becomes a chore. Then you have current fundamental omissions like copy/paste and you are left with a phone operating system which is little more than a joke when used on the Leo.
Still, each to their own but if you like the interface that much just use Launcher 7 on Android.
^Why are you here? Just looking for an opportunity to slate wp7?^
No, I'm discussing the subject at hand, which is multitouch and WP7's lack of it when run on the Leo.
Hope that helps.

multitouch works ok in many games and apps I think... I'll have to do some testing to make sure, but I thought it was only when trying to pinch to zoom that you had to get both fingers on screen at once. The multitouch on the HD2 doesn't really ruin much on WP7... I usually don't notice. But maybe I'm just not trying enough apps.

how good is the legend's dual touch experience ?!

hey guys i wanna know if the legend's dual touch is good enough to play games that require you to press 2 buttons @ the same time ! thanks
2 is fine, if the app only requires two touches. Otherwise, you're out of luck, because there points on the screen doesn't work. Hardware doesn't support it.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh, not necessarily. I use Gameboid a LOT, and I must depend on the Legend's hardware buttons (unfortunately) to play effectively.
Here's an example of where it fails: Let's say you were jumping diagonally, or required a control where you would need to have points on Up (Dpad) + Right (Dpad) + A. Putting one finger between Up + Right, and putting the other finger on A would screw the screen up and it would think you'd be pressing B and Down (Dpad). Not the greatest.
The hardware buttons I have set up for the Legend on Gameboid are: A = trackpad button, B = BACK button, Search for Right Trigger. On games such as Super Mario Advance 2 where I occasionally have to fly, I put my finger on the Dpad, right thumb on B (screen), and index finger on trackball.
It's pretty difficult to get used to, but play around with the controls, it'll get comfortable eventually.

Ive use dual screen touch on the legend using Snesoid, PES 2011, Fifi and a few others. It wasn't a great experience and I gave up. Snesoid runs ok but slows down badly once you touch the screen, touch it twice and, well its not worth it. The CPU just doesn't seem to cope with these games and touch at the same time. They all work fine on a HTC desire using touch I found.

Not sure its the screen more that I'm doing stuff very cpu intensive like emulation or gaming and the additional overhead of inputs via touchscreen is too much. No not time critical apps like zooming maps the legend responds very well. Snesoid works better with sound off, free's up a few more cpu cycles it seems.
Try this app from the Market, it will give you an idea of how our multi-touch (or rather, lack of) works:
