I've tried to enable the usb tething feature in the Omnia 7 by going into the diagnostics and using *#7284# to enable.
I then installed samsung modem drivers and created a dial up connection in windows 7 dialling *99#
However every time it tries to connect it times out with either error 628 or 692. (Non response or hardware problem)
I've tried adding extra initialisation instructions in the advance tab of the modems properties in windows device manager but nothing works.
The problem is I'm on Three UK and I don't know what the settings for Three should be.
Anyone made it work?
Can't tether either
Same phone, same network. The USB tethering doesn't work for me in Windows (getting the same problem as you are) or OS X.

Hi
I want to use my XDA2i to connect my laptop to the net....
Any ideas how to achieve this, thinking bluetooth laptop to XDA then use GPRS on XDA to connect.
Thanks
Hi,
Look overhere ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/USB_modem/ for modem driver & documentation.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, however, I want to connect my laptop through bluetooth to my XDA and use the GPRS on my XDA to connect to the net.
I need to achieve this without using a USB connection, if I understand correctly the link you supplied tells me how to connect USB modem etc.
Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding. It's all so simple using a Nokia 6230i, plug and play virtually!! (until my company deactivated data calls:-()
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Set the Connection Type to Bluetooth in the Wireless Modem program, then push the start button & make the BT connection to your laptop. Hope it works this way or experiment a little with it pls. I use the USB connection & don't have BT on my PC, so can't try the settings myself.
Regards, M
As I assume that you're using Windows vom Micro$oft, just Pair the two devices (not using 'Wireless Modem').
It will automatically install a Bluetooth-Modem

Hi
What type of connection do I need, I can only find a network access connection to my laptop, thats all that is available.
I am using a HP laptop with XP home, its a new one so would imagine everything is in order.

Thanks for the replies people...
Although I have to admit I'm struggling still....given up on the bluetooth connection and reverted back to USB cable but still I can't connect.
Here's the steps I have used:
Unticked Active Sync allowing USB connections.
Restarted laptop, connected USB cable to XDA and selected Wireless Modem, used the drop down to select USB and selected Start.....
the documentation etlls me that my laptop will go into a plug and play routine of allowing me to install it as a modem but this does not happen.
And yes, I have admin rights on the laptop.
Do I have to do anything with connections/modems because I haven't.
Am I being thick? Not sure but it's driving me to distraction...
start the modem program on your XDA (Start-Programs) and conenct it, windows will ask for a driver. install the driver from ftp. then create a new modem connection in windows. here (in germany) the number windows must call is *99# (for GPRS/UMTS)
Thank you for your patience...
The XDA installed as stated using driver on FTP, great.
Run up IE, tools, options, connections and added a dial up connection called XDA USB Link.(com8)
Settings of which are:
user name2web
passwordassword
untick automatically detect settings
untick configuration script
untick proxy server
Not sure where I'm going wrong but when I dial it errors with...No dial tone detected.
To recap I am dialing with GPRS connected on XDA and the WModem program connected through USB started
Am I missing something?
Can anyone help??????
Please?????
Try running usbmodemdialer instead of DUN by IE, it's in the package on the ftp.
Cheers, M
Hi
OK, I am now using the HTC USB dialer but I'm receiving an error 734 code, which is a PPP issue.
To recap, I am starting Wmodem, connecting to laptop (GPRS off) using a USB cable. Starting HTC USB Modem with APN as Internet & modem as HTC USB modem.
On XDA I get a connection light, then send and receive lights flash before the lot dissapear. The laptop goes through Connecting/verifying/registering then Remote access error 734.
I'm nearly there...
Please excuse my ignorance on this subject
Thanks
Yeah seems like it again :--(
Upload is running to ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/

Hi
Ive done everything as suggested but I'm getting a 680 error, this I believe is a "no dial tone" error.
Please, where am I going wrong?
Thanks
Gary
Frankly I haven't got the slightest idea what's going wrong. It works like a charm with my magician & Windows XP Sp2.
M
Hm how could the line be busy? are you phoning the same time? (always when you try to connect? sorry silly question.)
Are you sure your provider give you GPRS Access? (i don't know any who don't )
did you a google search on this error?
Hi
Yes, I googled it and it appears to be "No dial tone" not line busy....I'm not in a call when attempting to connect.
I've tried every possible combination of settings......usernames and passwords etc....
There isn't any issues with my laptop and updates etc. I am sys admin by day!!! This is just beating the hell out of me. Incidentally my laptop is a HP pavillion zd8369ea, a new one!!! Alpine is running radio 1.04.
Yes, data calls are enabled on my SIM, I can connect perfectly to IE on XDA and mail etc.
Taken down all firewalls etc and nothing....
Help
Thanks
Gary
Follow the instructions here:
http://www.seeo2.com/html/HowToUse/XdaII/How to setup Wireless Modem for Bluetooth.htm
At part 5. the line you need is:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","mobile.o2.co.uk","",0,0
At point 11. you don't need a user name or password.
I just bought my wife an 8525 and I am having trouble tethering it to my laptop. I have tried everything I can find/think of. The original 8525 still tethers just fine. Both will sync with Active Sync but when I plug in the new 8525 and start the wireless modem my laptop doesn't recognize any new hardware/modem. Both 8525's have the same rom and all the settings seem to be the same. When I go through the control panel and try to add a new modem my laptop doesn't see the new 8525 and so it won't let me add the new 8525 as another modem. Any ideas??? I went through all the normal steps 9 months ago when I got my 8525 to tether so I know all the normal stuff..
What am I missing here? Active sync works with both phones but I can tether with the new one....
thanks.
Driver problem
I just got the second 8525 working as a wireless modem on my work laptop but still no go on the one at home. Obviously the problem is with my home laptop. I think it is having trouble installing the driver. I remember when I first set it up for my original 8525 I couldn't use the driver off the CD-ROM that came with the phone but I had to download what looked like the same driver and save it to my desktop and then it worked from there. This time I have tried getting the driver from both locations and it still doesn't work.
FYI when I got both phones set up on my work laptop it show two separate modems under the Control Panel. One is "HTC USB Modem" and the other is "HTC USB Modem #2". The modem that shows up as available depends on which phone I have connected. At home I have not been able to get modem #2 (8525 #2) to be recognized as a modem. Any ideas? Has anyone else had trouble with the driver from the CD that came with the phone? Do we know why it will work on some computers but not others?
thanks....
Chances are the one that is working is running an older rom. The newer 8525's require you to use a program called Internet Sharing to tether with. Goto programs and look for it. Hit connect once its opened and activesync should automatically disconnect and the laptop will establish a connection to the net. You don't have to use a dial-up connection anymore.
my problem was that my pc was seing the phone as a generic serial device not a modem. I went through the device manager, deleted the drivers it was using and installed the right one...now both phones will tether...maybe this will help someone else.
My firm just upgraded my notebook to Vista Enterprise 32-bit (against my wishes!). My Mogul is running the most recent Sprint/HTC-supplied ROM, 3.56.651.0. Under XP, I had no problem tethering using the built-in WM "Internet Sharing" app over USB.
Under Vista, no joy.
I've tried a thousand things. I've downloaded the most recent version of WMDC. After disabling "Enable advanced network functionality" in Connections -> USB to PC, I was able to get WMDC to see the device, xfer files, sync, etc. But still no joy on tethering.
The steps I'm following (that worked on XP):
(1) on the device, I fire up Internet Sharing, select USB, and hit Connect; the phone connects to Sprint's Phone as Modem service (which I'm paying for) fine.
(2) I plug the device into notebook via USB cable
(3) the notebook complains "Windows needs to install driver for your Generic RNDIS" and offers "Locate and install driver software (recommended), "Ask me again later", or "Don't show...". I select "Locate and Install..."
(4) the notebook says it's installing the driver, but then complains:
=======
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
=======
and then the driver install windows complains:
=======
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device ...
Generic RNDIS Failed
=======
Has anyone gotten _THIS COMBINATION_ (i.e., Vista on the computer, plus a Sprint Mogul running ROM 3.56.651.0) to work? I'm at my wits end.
Thanks!

A quick [non]update, if you're having this problem too... No joy from hours of internet searching and posting on other boards.

my search continues also
i use wmwifirouter to tether via usb/wifi, so i guess you could try that. But i don't think it'll make a difference.
For a while, my vista ultimate wouldn't detect my phone via activesync, i did a repair on it and it fixed. It could probably be the usb driver problems.
I also installed windows 7 to play around, the usb tether worked on that also
I discovered a short while ago that the Media Net was needed in the drop down under Network Connections on the Internet sharing app.
Not sure if ya still looking for a fix but in vista you have to download/install Windows Mobile Device Center then plug your phone and wait for it to detect it. Once the sync is set up disconnect and boot up the internet sharing hit connect then hook up the usb cable. BTW using internet sharing with vista sucks ass cause it randomly connects and disconnects.
I have been using "Wireless Router" for a year and a half now on my XP desktop. It works great, now I have just purchased a laptop w/ Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I get an issue with drivers too.
I have WMDC installed but the system will not recognize my Mogul 6800 as a modem.
If anyone has an idea of were to get the driver or knows any other parameter settings we would appreciate it. I also will update my finds as I search.
BTW, Wireless Modem has a non detection feature if your are interested.
I have an AT&T Tilt running Laurentius26's L26KDV12 (Windows Mobile 6.1) and I would like to use the device as a USB modem - NOT for internet connectivity but to connect to remote monitoring devices around the state that have modem's installed in them (for example, from my desktop I have an external 56K modem connected to COM3 - I have several HyperTerminal profiles setup with phone numbers, baud rate, etc.. that I open and my modem "calls" these remote monitoring stations"). I would like to be able to use my laptop and the Tilt (Kaiser) as the modem so I can call into these pieces of equipment while I am traveling.
Any advice - or search tags would be appreciated. I have already searched the forums and did a general Google search but all results turn up how to use the phone as a Internet Connection device - this is NOT to connect to the internet...
Thank you!
Have a search for 'usb_modem.zip' and 'MODEMLINK'. The usb_modem.zip is a driver file for Windows and allows your PC to use your Windows Mobile device as a modem. You also need the MODEMLINK installed on your device which you activate like you do with Internet Sharing. I have MODEMLINK cooked into my ROM and unfortunately don't have a .CAB for it, however I think there is one. It only consists of three files, a shortcut and some registry settings.
I have tested it sucessfully with some dial-up ISPs and it worked fine. When I was initially testing it though I attempted to phone my home line to verify it was dialing out OK and this didn't work. Since it isn't something I use often I haven't pursued this but I think it might have something to do with the 'CSD Line Type' setting in Settings/Connections.
thanks for the information. I did find and download the wmodem software for the phone but when I activate it I get an error message about not being able to access a com port, the cell signal goes dead and I have to reset the phone.
If you have a different version that what I found (5.1.2600.2180) let me know - that may be the difference...
thanks!

When I launch Modem Link I select 'USB' as the connection, Baud Rate is 'Unused' and Access point name is set to the GPRS APN I have configured (however this is unused I think?). I then hit 'Activate' and ActiveSync disconnects and the 'HTC USB Modem' is then connected to COM4. I can query the modem from the Control Panel applet on my PC like any other modem. I can also open HyperTerminal direct to COM4 and enter 'AT' commands. I just tried dialing my home phone again and this didn't work, however dialing an ISP did.

Check this out:

Can anyone confirm this works? I have the Focus and love it, but a friend of mine would like the keyboard. Tethering is a must. Thanks.
I can confirm this works with Windows 7 x64
Thanks! I'll set them up.
Update -
They got the phone. I installed the drivers and set up the phone via the instructions. I added the string to the modem and set up the connection. When it goes to connect, I get an Error 628. Any info on this. I tried several times, but no luck.
Couple of things to try:
1) Clear the username and password and retry
2) Try setting the dialup number to *99# (or *99***1#)
3) Try adding at+cgdcont=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR" to the initialization codes of the modem
To be clear, I have not had to do any of these things, but I did have to try dialing several times (4 or 5) before it started working. Now it works every time...
I was able to tether my quantum by just making a dial-up connection and using the standard AT&T dial-up login/password w/ *99# as the number
Okay, I was able to get it to work. Even though I tried switching from MS Composite to QC Composite several times, it didn't take. I switched to MS Default, plugged it in (don't know if this helped but it installed sync drivers). I then switched back to QC Composite and presto - it worked! I guess the phone wasn't switching the USB driver correctly.
Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions.
Edit:
It still gave out! The next day, I couldn't get the phone tethering to work no matter what I tried. I got more than one type of error message on different tries including hardware errors. I finally came to the conclusion that the phone must be defective. They sent for another one so I'll report on any more issues/success.
Update 2:
I found out there is one small but crucial step. You must turn off the active data connection before attempting to connect as a modem. Once I did this, it connects every time. I just had them turn the data connection back on when they finish.
Step 1:
Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Data Connection and turn it off. Then connect from the computer as a modem.
So simple but necessary on this phone!
Can this work for another network
Does anyone know if I can replace the AT&T settings with my cell phone company's APN settings and still get this to work?
