I'm thinking on buying The Xoom either the full amount ($799) or getting it via Best Buy financing for 18 months no interest. Just wondering if anybody got the 18 month financing payment what is your monthly payment? Also what did you have to pay up front? Thanks in advanced
I'm neither an account nor a math wiz, but at 18 months no interest for $800, you're looking at payments around $50 a month.

After tax your looking around 850/18 months is gonna be around $50 a month like said above.
Yeah I was just wondering if there were any other fees and stuff, cause if so I would just buy the whole thing up front. If not then monthly would better
I have purchased a few Items at best buy with zero intrest, just make sure you remember to pay it off before promotion expires, there are no other fees.
You don't *have* to pay a set amount each month, you do have to at least pay a minimum. You could pay $100 one month, $25 the next, etc.
If it *isn't* paid off by the end or if you miss a payment completely, there used to be small print that says they could charge you all the interest at that point.
The "no interest" is a little mis-leading, there is a monthly percentage fee for "debt cancellation" which is basically the fee for not charging you interest. It's significantly reduced from actual interest gain, but it still isn't a true 0.
On the whole, if you can afford it upfront, you'd save yourself some money.
I see. Thanks for the info fellas

debt cancellation (account shield) is not mandatory and is always 100% optional.
OP You can pay your payment in store (cash or check, no credit cards) as well as online. Otherwise there is a minimum payment due every month (I wanna say either 10 dollars or 10%). If you have any more questions shoot!
Agree i have never heard of the percentage fee. And i am been using them for years, i just make sure to pay it off way early and never ever be late.
I'm pretty sure he signed up for account shield which is roughly ~$1.20? on every 100 dollars you spend
And what is the account shield for?

I bought my macbook pro from bestbuy no interest 18 months. I paid the minimum (about $25 a month) for about a year. Then I made several large payments of $200 over the next few months to pay it off. So what I'm saying is u can pay it off at any rate or structure u want just don't miss a payment.
If u don't pay off in 18 months, the APR is somewhere around 25% lol. So pay that sucker off early!!! I think I was done a month or so early. (25% on $1400 isn't very fun).

Yea its extremely ridiculous. That's why they offer 0% interest over 18 months is because the deferred interest is massive. Its really a solid deal, even if you want to just buy it and pay it off a few months later, not wait the whole 18 months.
Wow, I never knew that the account shield was some added thing I signed up for...I'm totally canceling that.

UPDATE*:
It might be that the $10 add-on is for Business Plans that only pay 59.99 a month.... Lets for f*** sake hope thats what they mean.
Am I correct in understanding this? You $100 mail-in rebate. You get $150 off for signing a 2 year contract. If you are eligible for the $150 upgrade rebate can you use this as well so that the cost would only be $49 after the mail-in rebate?
I have only a few mths into my new contract and I got the Hero in october. I'll be paying full price for one.
fail.
But it seems that I'll be able to get a pretty penny for mine on ebay. Especially since its been in a full phone screen protector since I bought it.

Its still only 80 dollars a month for "4G" plus free mobile to mobile, text messages, and data.
Not the end of the world.
$10 for 4g isn't bad. They said it wouldn't cost more but at least it's somewhat reasonable.
Charging that for every evo regardless if that service is available or not is about the dumbest thing could do and will cost them subs they so desperately need right now.
I'm really not sure if I'm willing too pay an extra $120 pet year without 4g service.

This is the problem that I see. A ton of people want this phone but don't live in 4G, yet are charged for it... Kinda sucks. But I guess it's the same if you live in 1x, and you buy a smartphone, you still pay 3g.

Wow!! Rebates are now going to take longer than normal. Soon it's going to be 1 yr before you get a rebate
Wait and see what Wirefly and Amazon offer.I think they had the Droid Incredible for $149 or $199 flat out no rebates on Amazon.
So that $150 off they mention is for agreeing to a 2 year contract and not using your upgrade rebate? That would mean you could get it for $49 after the mail-in rebate if you are eligible for the upgrade rebate. That would be a great price!
I'm sure most people know about corporate discounts but for those that don't, check with your employer and your college (if you went) to see if they have an agreement for corporate discounts. My company gets 10% off and through my college I get 15% off. Even alumni are eligible for the discount. I obviously use the discount from my school. (just got laid off so couldn't use the one from work anyways)
That could save you a lot of money on some plans. However, the discounts only apply to contracted plans. The non-contract plans are not eligible for corporate discounts.

Please be aware that getting yourself into a contract causes you to end up with a service plan far in excess of your actual use, and NO OPTION TO CHANGE IT FOR THE DURATION. The result of this is that you end up spending THOUSANDS extra over the term of the contract than you would by just paying up full price for the phone in the beginning.
DON'T BE STUPID!!!! CONTRACTS ARE THE RAPE AND TORTURE OF PUPPIES!

How is it spending "thousands" more, if you already have a plan with the $20 preferred android plan for your existing phone?
If you change nothing on your plan when you take the free upgrade, in essence, the phone *IS* free, you just agree to keep service for 24 months, and if you hate the phone and or said service after 30 days, CANCEL, pay the $250 ETF and sell the phone and recoup your losses. I don't see how "Thousands" of extra dollars come into effect here when most people already have a plan they like with the $20 preferred data plan. I know my grandfathered plan with all the free features is much cheaper than ANYTHING a EM+ can EVER offer me.

Yes, wifi eats out of your bucket unless you have the free grandfathered [email protected] UMA plan on your line, then all wifi calls are free. If you have a EM/EM+ plan you can't get that feature added. Old plans still have a 50/50 shot of having a loyalty rep add the SOC.

Agreed, but with the game of price-swap going on and the fact the price isnt showing up on Verizon or Motorola’s website, leads me to think that this game might not be over. Less than 24 hours out, you’d think we’d see “for realsies” prices on web sites by now.
Yesterday was a “good news” day for the Xoom, lets hope that today isnt more akin to the days that preceeded it. This launch could have gone so much smoother...

The real important question is how much is the ETF??!! If it's the standard $200 then a contract is worth considering. If it's Verizon's new more expensive ETF, then no contract is a no brainer.

so i lost my phone the other night and long story short sprint has awesome customer service, and they pushed me forward to allow me to purchase an "upgrade". kind sucks though right now as i had the evo and currently there's not many more options. what should i do? another evo? i was thinking about the shift and it seems pretty promising hardware and overclocking capabilities?
So, if I were you, I would buy a used phone, and Hold On to that upgrade credit. Even used Evos are kinda cheap right now, and if you "upgrade" to that, well then you are Stuck with that on contract. And thats bad because ...
Currently, there is no "upgrade" from the Evo from Sprint (yes yes, debatable. Some say the Epic is awesome, I don't think so.)
Sprint is about to announce new phones on Tues, and if they let you keep your credit for a few months, you should be able to grab an Evo3D.
wait for the EVO 3D

Its called a buy up, depending on the months left on your contract you can purchase an early upgrade

Might as well wait to get an Evo 3D, or see what else will be unveiled this coming week.

Is this the same as just paying the ETF if its been prorated to an amount less than the difference between the retail price and upgrade price of a phone?

Its sort of like an in between fee. He paid a small to get his upgrade now, instead of the 3 months when he may have gotten it. The ETF would be as in ending your contract, cutting the sprint service.

Well with only 3 months left the ETF would be pretty darn small. So how small is the fee. That's my question.

Well I said 3 months as an example, it could have been at the end of the year. And as far as I know, the fee is variable, based upon when you ask for it.
So like march > june = smaller fee
march > november = bigger fee.

Even if the price is virtually the same, an ETF and an early upgrade to your line are still different. You keep you current plan and you current account, as well as the time you've been there (aren't there benefits for 10 year customers or something?)
I guess there are reasons to want an entirely new account, I just don't know them.
how much did the OP pay for an early upgrade? i wanna do that

That makes sense. I didn't realize ETF would cost you your account history. I wonder is the dollar amount is the same though.
I know people who have paid ETFs before because it was only like 50 bucks and they turned right around and signed a new contract and got a 500 dollar phone for 200 dollars. 300 dollar savings makes the ETF worth it in such a case, if its far enough into the contract. (If you don't mind losing account history. Are you certain you lose it?)

Yup, account history is definitely lost.
when will the evo 3d be available?
just get another evo. no upgrade just a replacement. save the upgrade for the next wave
