Mid Call Proximity Sensor Problem

Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the proximity sensor.
It's proving a problem for my wife who uses the phone. When she's on a call the phone is intermittently sensing if she's holding it to her ear.
Hence being a capactive screen, when her cheek brushes the screen during a call the other end either hears DTMF or gets cut off by it touching the end call.
I called her yesterday and kept getting random DTMF digits sent to me, then I got sut off.
I was watching her use the phone and the screen was de-activiting (correctly going blank) for part of the call then coming back on, this would happen several times during one call.
Is this a hardware issue or software bug. Has anyone else suffered this problem?

Also happened to me a few times touching end call wih my cheek, really annoying.

Anyone else having the same problem with the proximity sensor intermittently not working during a call?

I had that problem on the old 1.43 ROM but it was fixed when I upgrade to 1.48.

I have this problem and I constantly have to call back and say sorry to my customers and blame it on the phone...
I have reported several errors to HTC and all i get back is "Take it to the retailer and get it changed, it must be a hw error", annoying as hell
1.48 not yet official in sweden.

TouchLockPro
You can try TouchLockPro, it has an InCallTweak, using the GSensor. Searching for accessing programmatically the Proximity Sensor though, for more options (e.g unlock by Proximity Sensor). It works on HTC Leo, people confirmed.

I've tried the software and I think it might work.
I loaded the software and it worked without any further config I presume that is currect.

Indeed, TouchLockPro detects itself the available sensors and uses the available ones. Of course you can configure detailed things (via pressing the BattClock), but the defaults are already the sensible ones

Just been doing some more testing and occasionally the screen flashes on for a brief moment during a call. Could it be the proximity sensor trying to turn on the screen? Or is it the G sensor not being very accurate?
In the application is there a way for me to adjust the G-Sensor angles that activate the screen off? i.e. 45+ Degrees activate ??
Or are there any other adjustments I could make during testing??

I found one more problem... I checked it several times....
If u make a call using portrait orientation of phone app (Rotated using BSB Tweak). Proximity sensor doesnt work at all.... i made a while lyin on the bed and no matter wat i tried it wasnt turning off the screen....
Then i kept it in portrait position for a few seconds den proximity started working again...
Is there anyone who can confirm me with this problem.... or is this issue only with my HD2

I think the screen need to turn on when I am taking the phone far from my head.

Which ROM do you have installed? I had this problem with 1.43 but it was fixed when I upgraded to 1.48.

It isn't normal, but no solution, for now.
You can use soft like S2U2 to lock screen during call

I just upgraded from 1.43 to 1.48.

do you have HDtweak installed? (from Blackstone forum)

After I updated my ROM to official v1.66, my proximity sensor (PS) started behaving strange. Sometimes, it doesn't work at all when calling. Other times, it shuts down the screen, but won't turn it on again unless I press one of the hard buttons. And then, sometimes, it works flawlessly.
I found out that, at least in my case, it was because I had Data Connection on. I started to use automatic weather update, so my DC was on all the time. Everytime I call or receive a call, the DC would turn itself off, and at the same time, caused either one of the abovementioned bugs. After I disabled the DC permanently, the PS worked flawlessly everytime.
Don't know if this is known from before or not, though...

Do you have a screen protector on your device? I had the same problem when I fitted the HTC official protector and it took me ages before I realised!
Needless to say i no longer use protection!

@BlueLux: did you solve this problem? I now have a completely disfunctional proximity sensor after upgrade to 1.66 rom, so if you can help me out that would be most appreciated...

I've had no problems with the prox. sensor at all since. Just made sure Data Connection was turned off after use.

I got it fixed after searching a lot...
I had a cover on (silicon/rubber) my HD2, which was covering the back and the edges of the phone.
Right after removing it, proximity sensor is working perfectly fine.

i have the same problem as described and the solution is turning off "set data connection"? i have hd2tweak installed aswell

It seems the hd2 proximity sensor is not responding anymore..
it doesnt turn off the screen and it goes to speaker automatically when the call connects.
anyone know a solution.

Proximity Sensor

Hey,
I'm having a problem with my proximity sensor. If I make a phone call, the screen turns automatically black, even if sensor isn't covered. And I can't turn the screen back on during call, only if the conversational partner hangs up, then it turns back on normally. If I try to hang up, the phone the display stays black for about 2min.
I'm having this problem only with WP7 & Android, works normally on WM6.5.
Hope somebody can help me.

You saying it works fine with winmo, it has to be a setting or bad flashing. You can try wiping your phone and starting over. I haven't played with WP7, but in some andriod roms there is an opition to use proximity sensor in the phone settings. Goto settings/ call settings. You might want to check and see. might be able to help you more if you were to tell what rom and how you installed.

This setting montecarlo5 mentions is available in cyanogenmod roms.
Are you sure there's no dirt covering your proximity sensor? Maybe Android is more sensitive than WM/WP.

I'm using RAFDROID HD 2.3 and like u allready said, the setting isn't available.
I'm having this issue on every NAND build i ever tested, but the sensor is 100% clean.

Please guys, don't open everytime a new thread before searching, if some one did the same -.- I made some tests to find out the reason of this issue and how to solve it (more or less).

No Wake-up after phone call

Still tested different NAND-Android Roms on my HD2 but got still a problem. If i make a phone call and the screen turns black while calling i press the endkey to end the phone call. But instead of turning on the device, the screen stays black and i need to pull the battery and restart the phone.
If i make a phone call and use the free speaking funktion, while the screen don't turn off, i got no problem when ending the phone call.
I don't know what the problem could be, but it seems, that the thing has to do with the sensor who turns the screen on and off. But i don't know if this is the problem and/or know how to fix this problem. Like i said, i tested different Android Roms formated the SD-Card, deleted cache and all the stuff, but nothing fixed this problem. :-(

Issue lies with the light/proximity sensor. Could be defective hardware. Could be incorrect sensor drivers. Could be dirty sensors. I have yet to take mine apart to check for dirt on sensors. Blowing into the led/earpiece opening seemed to help. I notice if it doesn't come back on I can hold a very bright light (ex: cigarette lighter) about an inch away and the screen comes on as long as the lighter is lit. Sometimes it stays on.

Your link helped me to solve the problem! I just cutted a little piece of my screen protector, where the proximity sensor is, and got no more freezes after the phone calls! The screen protector still got two holes for the light and proximity sensor, but this seemed not to be big enough. Anyway, thank you a lot for your post!

I also tried a a lot of different NAND ROM and I had also this problem and I can't use Android efficiently. Now I am using hyperdroid ROM ( first GBX now CM). With this ROM and sanity app (from market, with correct settings you can find with trying) I almost solve this problem. ( probability of 95 % I don't get this error)

hey guys! i found the solution goin through the market!
download an app called "Sanity" theres a free version in the regular android market.
go to the settings > general > check "Reverse Proximity" (This will give you some warning about not using it if you DONT have a buggy proximity sensor). Check it anyways. Then go back to preferences then click "Proximity" scroll down and uncheck Turn off screen and leave leave the Turn on screen checked. this will force your phone to stay on during calls so that it never has to go through the proximity phase of calls this no more black screens. Hope this was helpful ^_^

Display goes off during a call and doesn't come back

Hi,
I have Xperia arc S. Recently it is behaving in a crazy way during a phone call.
when I call or I receive a call, and put the phone on my ear, the sensor works and get the display off which is normal... but what is not normal, is that many times the screen keeps off and It doesn't get back on.
It's more happening when I am outdoor.... and in many times I need to remove the battery to get it working again.
does any one face the same behavior? any suggestions?

I used to have the same problem. It's normally one of two things, either the sensor is obscured(eg some cases, or it's greasy) or low ram. If it's the sensor then it would be pretty obvious, with the ram issue then you can try a ram cleaner from the market, or a ram management app/script, or a custom rom(these all need a rooted phone, with a custom rom/kernel you'll probably need your bootloader unlocked).

I have the same problem. I haven't found a solution, but in my case the screen will return when the call ends. I found an option in the phone to use the power button to end a call. That allows me to end a call when the screen won't activate. I can then push the middle button and the screen comes on.
I have investigated the sensor suggestion, but I don't think that is it. The screen will work perfectly in normal light conditions, but has problems in either low light conditions or outside when it is very bright. I don't think the latter case would be an issue if it was due to a blocked sensor. It is more like the software not being able to distinguish a change in light level either due to insufficient light or being overloaded by too much light. I had hoped 4.0 would fix it, but it hasn't.

Are you on a Custom ROM?
Or tweaked the autobrightness with a tool?
I only had this issue when i was on a Custom ROM that had bugs...
So if its official ROM, try wiping it...
Otherwise it could be just a bug of your rom, and you need to get an update if available

I think its a bug on stock ICS 4.0.4 because I had this problem too and only pulling out a battery would fix this. This happened to me only on pure stock unmodified ICS.

try another Rom, i guess it is your rom's bug
