Dell To Add Stage Multi-Sync For Dell Venue Pro Devices
apparently dell has some diferentation it wants to put in its smart phone line up
what do you guys think about these incoming "dell only" features
Sounds like the article author got confused, WP7 cant have the UI replaced so any reference to the DVP using the stage UI to me is suspect. Plus Zune takes care of all that media sharing so to me it sounds like an android thing only.

Ah well, wont make much difference when the phone wont stay up long enough to browse the network anyway.
To browse your music and videos from computer install tversity on ur pc and over wifi, access ur pc ip and tversity port using IE in the phone.
Not a slick ui, but better than nothing.
Tversity port is 41952 ..
eg: ur pc ip address:41952

Hiya
This is my first post on this cracking site, so firstly let me say hello
I was wondering if you could help me. I have managed to download the media go software and software update programs from Sony for my X10, however I was wondering if anyone knew if they are going to release a mac version as I've just bought myself a macbook or if there was a way to manage the x10 through OSX. The other options I can think of are to either run windows through BootCamp, however I don't really want to partition my hard drive or the other option is to run windows in VMware Fusion which I installed today. I would just prefer to be able to work with my phone directly through OSX if possible.
Many thanks for your help in advance.
Cheers
Andy
Just checked and Sony now do a mac version of their software....I must have missed it when I last checked their website....doh lol

Thanks Man
hey i found this video and it looks like fun.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8G82A7KKtY&feature=related
but i have windows 7 and i couldnt get it to work does anyone know how? and does it work for XP users?
worked here on XP
I have contacted and it seems to be impossible to make it work on Vista nor 7.
Still, it looks more like a proof of concept than a really useful app
???
It is a video playing inside the Windows media player.
And it's even poorly synchronized with the monitor next to it...

I don't think so. It looks legit to me. Have you ever used dual monitors before?

It's not mate - it works a treat.
it works. it just takes a copy of your screen from the server (your pc) to the client (your phone), over TCP.
Worked quite slowly for me though.
It also adds your phone as a monitor, so you can extend your desktop onto it like a second monitor. It's a shame it's purely a visual thing, as it would be perfect if you could perform mouse clicks with it. Imagine having a media player on there, as in the video, but being able to control it from your screen!
If it was slow, I'd recommend chaning the frame rate. I had it on 20fps and it worked really smoothly.
I personally see a more relevant use by switching to the phone as server, and then having your phone screen open as a window on your desktop...

I've got this installed on my Win XP notebook and my HD2 and I'm trying to get this setup. Can you provide a walk through? I've tried the steps listed in the video, but the trouble I'm having with is when I have to select "Display 2". I only have the option to select "Display 1". I've tried to enable my secondary display, but because there's no monitor connected to my VGA connector, The second monitor setting won't stick.
Can you post up the conditions/settings that got it working for you?
this video wasnt made with my mobiler....
this video was made with this:

works pretty good.... hf....
I guess this is ¨just for kicks¨kind of app
coming from wm6.1 and having the streak for one day..i feel really a bit disappointing.
the screen is great, it's fast but..the mean purpose of the streak is surfing and multimedia.
so after one day of testing.
stock 1.6..i don't think 2.1 is better.
-lost my streak icon in explorer..so no exchange of files possible..it there under usb in the manage pc tab..but i don't see it in explorer and others
only a icon showing up in the streak saying...scanning existing media files..and it stays there.
- no bluetooth connection possible to the pc..not recognized..all my other devices had no problem with it..nokia, htc etc
- no streaming possible..not recognizing the format (codec), so no orb stream, no tversity streams, no direkt stream from the server (only one or two formats).
really horrible.
- no wifi connection to pc, only to router. tried everything.
damn if i coult port wm6.1 to this device, it would be a super mini mobile computer.
some things could be done but it takes ages to find the right app for it.
the pc connection is the biggest problem for now, been seaching for 4 hours on differend forums and nope...no solution yet.
some idea's or solutions please
EDIT: found the solutions..thanks all..damn the big screen is incredible
Right - it may just be that your windows drivers aren't set up correctly. Did you install the dell suite?
If you are on 2.1 you need the upgraded suite from the dell site. Also you may need to muck around with the drivers
see parts 1 to 1.14 step 11 from
Link:http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=64083
for a good explanation. Also make sure you have clicked on the status bar and selected the option to copy files to and from the computer otherwise the pc wont see the sd card.
Ad hoc networking only works on Steves 2.2 (froyo) build release 1. Which has the advantage of being a lot faster as well and it has flash.
AS for streaming media -I'm not sure what you need for that - I copy to SD card and watch using rockplayer, I have seen people discussing streaming and all I remember is that people were using mp4 files, but not which program they were using.
~I think you have to remember this is a new os to you so think how confusing windows was on the first day you tried it. Android becomes second nature after a few days.
Good luck - and stick with it, I'd never go back now...
i try
i can see my dell on the pc now..after 2 hours searching
i installed websharing so i could transfer files to and from the phone.
the streaming is important cause i have a server with a tv-card running..so i could stream recording to the dell and other pc's around the house. Also all my donloaded movies are on that server.
i installed yxplayer ..pffff, makes me feel happy again..plays divx, xvids etc withoud a hitch.
still no luck with streams..but i keep searching and will reply if i find a solution.
now i have to find a decent app for making folders disappear in the pictures and video app..so i can keep the private pictures private in one app and see them in another app

Like a lot of people coming from windows to android their lack of knowledge about android seems to think that android is no good
Once you have had android for a while i will be very surprised if you feel the same
To me going from android back to wm6.1 would be like going from windows 7 to windows 98
Knowledge is a great thing and would recommend you read all the tutorials on the site
If you are saying that you upgraded to 2.1 and lost your pc connection, Dell released an upgraded version of the PC Suite that solves that issue.
Android takes some time to learn. More so from a nuts and bolts (hacker) view than just the general UI. However, I've found it gets progressively easier when you take time to understand ADB and the basic linux structure of Android.
Winmo, in my opinion, is way easier to grasp from a newbie perspective.
I have a question, and possibly a challenge to you programmers out there. Is there any program for windows media center where i can browse the TV guide from far away not LAN and select things to record?
there is a program called "phone my PC" that lets me remotely connect to my PC from anywhere with cellular service or WiFi connection. However all the WMC remotes i have seen use LAN. Also, all seem to require me to be in front of the screen.
If none exist, im sure there are many people who would love a polished remote control app that would let you
1 browse the guide and set programs to record from work.
2 browse through recorded programs on your phone WITH thumbnails while your
already watching a program
3 has all the other functionality that the "myremote" already has
4 please make it work on vista
Any other ideas?

You could try remote potato. There was a guy who started making an android version but I think he gave up.

looks like a really cool program.. it seems to use a web browser from another pc to control a home pc..
if he didnt give up as u say he may have, all he would need to add is the remote control features in "myremote" and blend it in with the rest of the features for the perfect all in one app..
with a lot of polish, and im talking the kind of polish put into the android OS itself. i would be willing to pay some nice coin for such an app.
Big screen global has a remote guide via mobile browser, they currently have a windows 7 app, might make an android one also. works well for me

I'll admit I would like this too. It is a lot better than the "WIndows Phone App" for Windows 7". Dont get me wrong, if you have Windows 8, the app looks nice but, for Windows 7, would love to get this back so I can sync like I could with my 7.5 device.

I agree with you DavidinCT. I don't think Microsoft quite go the message when we asked them that we didn't need Zune for everything. Although I like the fact that they made the store separate; they still should have left Zune as a music player or at least given us a Xbox music app.

If you plug in your WP8 device to a computer, it will show as a drive and on the drive, it has a Music folder. There must be a way for Zune to sync with it as it would be almost just like syncing with a USB drive or a flash card.
What else will zune sync with besides Zune devices and WP7 devices ? How does the WP8 app do it, maybe so converter/program can be put in there to make it see it as a Zune device ?
With it being like a USB drive, I am sure it should not be hard for someone to do...for someone who knows how Zune works and can access the API for it..
You know what, I wonder if there something in Zune's registry that can be changed?? Hum.... I'll look into it see if I can find anything.:silly:
Hum found something but not sure; under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Zune>Sync>Windows Phone>Handlers>DNS. Can someone look into it and see if anything if it is possible to write a new entry or change something? If it's a dll that needs to be changed then I'll have to leave it to a pro, I'm no good with dlls. Hopefully someone with the know how can help us.

Cool let me know what you find because I've hit a bump.
Not to be Eeyore here, but what you are trying to do is the equivalent of making Zune sync to an iPod or other Mp3 player. It can't be done. You need drivers and numerous other resources from Microsoft, which they have developed.

he has a point here guys, and even if zune was jus copying music from one folder to another like a MP3 player it still wont work as zune has a database as well that would need amending. nope, without some kind of emulation layer, it is unlikely to ever be done
course, I should have checked the dates on this, that was some bump!
Oh yeah that darn Zune data base, I forgot about that... double bump!!
Doesn't WMP sync to usb devices?
and also does video/pictures?
I always thought zune just did what wmp does but for wp, although saying that I've never tried it with mine, just got annoyed at how pointless the windows phone 8 app is...
Yes wmp will sync to a usb device but a WP device isn't a usb device, other than the final result wmp and Zune have nothing In common, i don't have a wp8 device so haven't had the pleasure of using it but Zune is actually really good
Sent from my Lumia 900 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Zune speaks MTPZ (Media Transfer Protocol, Zune extensions). WP8 (and Windows Explorer, when showing a "media device" instead of a "removable drive") speak MTP (without the Z). They are not compatible. Your chances of getting Zune to talk to WP8 without a fair bit of reverse engineering or MitM on the connection are quite low, and I don't personally believe it's worth the effort.
With that said, I think WMP does (or perhaps did at one point) speak MTP. A number of other programs do too, including ones for OSes other than Windows. I haven't yet checked to see if there's anything special about WP8's MTP that prevents those other programs from working, though; there might be. After all, it was possible to get Zune and WP7 devices to show up (as MTP devices) in Windows Explorer after a registry tweak, but you did still need to have the Zune software installed.
Windows Media Player will sync with WP8 devices, though its pretty slow.
Attempts at hacking the MTPz protocol have been ongoing for years and it just died out and was never successful. Suffice to say, it isn't going to happen. We'll sooner get a proper syncing client from Microsoft for WP8 before someone reverse engineers the Zune software/protocol.
The only reason I would want Zune to work with WP8 is wireless sync. Wish there was a way to do that with WP8
I'm interested in some type of Music sync, I guess I would like all the zune features (podcasts, apps, etc) but, I would deal with a good music sync app.
Is anyone using anything besides the crappy "Windows Phone app" ? IS there a good 3rd party app that would sync to a removable device (like WP8 shows up as), to have a better interface for transferring music ?

Agreed. The lack of phone-to-PC cloud sync is quite frustrating. 90% of the time I discover music from my phone and want it to sync back to my PC, not the other way around. Xbox Music has its fair share of issues, both in the backend service and in the horrible Windows 8 app. If they don't fix this on the phone in WP8.1, I don't think they'll ever get it right.
It's just a shame because all they needed to do was rebrand Zune. Change the logo, color scheme, and name. I don't think we loyalists would have cared what it's called, as long as its functionality remained the same. Instead, they gutted it of all its unique and useful features, then reinvented the wheel. As a square wheel. Xbox Music is nothing more than a less-functional, slower Zune with fewer songs in its library. What a waste of time and development resources.

if you guys didn't know this Microsoft released the windows phone app for desktop out of beta ... it is a little better then WMP but no where near Zune functionality
Bah I am working on some software to sync music like Zune does.
Music and other stuff as well.
Does everything zune does(except phone updates), plus some other things.
