Honeycomb succsefully boots on the evo... - G2 and Desire Z General

Well, they got a (decently) running version of the honeycomb sdk to boot on evo. This includes the launcher which was having some issues running on lower resolutions in the android emulator.
Anyone gonna try to get it to boot on the G2? I kinda wanna play with some honeycomb! =/

Running off of a sdk on your phone is a waste. I think I'd rather wait and see what happens after honeycombs source is released. :3
Besides Honeycomb is optimized for tablets. Why waste your time trying to get it on a phone when theres rumors saying Ice Cream will be honeycomb and gingerbread mashed together. I think I'll stick with my brand new CM7 RC1 release.

Well, from what I can see, the whole thing adapted pretty smoothly to the smaller screen of the Evo...to be honest, I really just want to play around with the UI on a smaller device.

it would be nice to see the 'back end' benefits of HC with something like ADW installed to better deal with the smaller screen.

Omg, what's with these names?? Can't they make it sound professional? For being really smart, they have no taste in names.. :/

I'm working on it right now, although I can't promise anything considering I have very little experience with this. So far I'm running into this error:

Once the source is released and there's something stable, I'd like to give it a run. I'd love to change the DPI but regretfully it usually breaks most apps or gives weird graphical annoyances. I'd love something optimized to fit MORE on the screen

Froyo's out Gingerbread is in

Well the last craze to get updated to Froyo seems as though it may end up being short lived as I came across this today: http://www.androidcodex.com/gingerb...edium=rss&utm_camp aign=gingerbread-is-coming
2 months for a GB release, then we wait for root (which might be very quick) and/or wait for HTC to Sense-ify GB, then we get it on the Evo. Froyo's got a few months left in it - about as long as Eclair had on the Evo.
Or maybe it will live up to the hype and HTC will leave it alone and just push it without a new UI.
Personally, I can't wait for 3.0. I'm really hoping it comes a lot closer to being as nice looking and easy to use as iOS. I came from an iPhone and loved it, but I love Android a little bit more; I don't know why I like it more, but I do, however, the apps are really ****ty when compared to iOS and the UI is pretty rough in some areas - sense or aosp.
Google really needs to step it up and hire some graphic designers that can't code at all.
Whoot Whoot !!!
bring it on Google

that's pretty cool. I wonder where they got their sources from though? I really would like to see what kind of UI google puts on gingerbread though. And of course, whether or not motorola/HTC/samsung will still blur/sense/touchwiz it...

I read from a few places that Gingerbread would do away with 3rd party UI's like Sense. It would have to be pretty fricken sweet to get me away from Froyo Sense. I mean, how much faster could it get?

I think the statement was that Google was aiming for UI that was nice enough to DISCOURAGE manufacturers from layering their own environment over the top, which would hopefully save resources.
But read this.

I wouldn't be surprised if it booted on a phone. In fact, I'd be surprised if it didn't. What I was saying is that the framework is probably made specifically for tablet size displays. It'd probably be all broken on a small resolution.
Edit: If it did boot, you might be able to increase the software DPI but then everything would be super tiny and unusable as a day to day. Plus I don't know if the Adreno 200 GPU drivers would play nice with the new 2D/3D acceleration. So it might not work correctly or even boot on our EVOs.

You make some very good points. I did boot, within the emulator, to a 4.3 inch screen and it looked usable. Your point about the drivers is well taken though. That could be a big issue. Hopefully some enterprising dev will try to find out.

Honeycomb 3.0 Kernel Development

Urgent!! Android Honeycomb 3.0 Kernel Needed! Kenia and Chile in i9000 forums have done it. Actual Android 3.0 on galaxy S. We need a compatible kernel. Anyone interested?
Link to the New Honeycomb 3.0 Thread!! It's Real!!

All I see in that forum is Sense 3.0 being ported over to the galaxy S... not Android 3.0... besides, no source for Android 3.0 has been outed yet because "its not ready yet" according to Google.
Considering that there is no Honeycomb sources, they're probably just using my kernel to boot it (same as they are doing for the sense roms).

I'm sure there will be a stable ics rom for the aria even if its not cm9. I have a very early one on my aria atm which runs well. Its not my everyday phone so idc that it does not have mobile or wifi lol. I just wanted to play around with ics.
IMO the sense 2.1 + 3.0 rom is more resource intensive than an aosp build of ICS. We'll see a smooth port on the aria, I'm sure of it. Not supporting the N1 was a business decision on Google's part not to support legacy hardware.
