Honeycomb 3.0 Kernel Development - Captivate Android Development

Urgent!! Android Honeycomb 3.0 Kernel Needed! Kenia and Chile in i9000 forums have done it. Actual Android 3.0 on galaxy S. We need a compatible kernel. Anyone interested?
Link to the New Honeycomb 3.0 Thread!! It's Real!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116161

All I see in that forum is Sense 3.0 being ported over to the galaxy S... not Android 3.0... besides, no source for Android 3.0 has been outed yet because "its not ready yet" according to Google.

Considering that there is no Honeycomb sources, they're probably just using my kernel to boot it (same as they are doing for the sense roms).

But it would be pointless since none of the phone functions work. Now if I can get Honeycomb with working phone functions then I'll take that, but until then -- not interested.

haha well once you begin to port Ice Cream to captivate then go and talk all the crap you want about honeycomb. Until that time has come, we should sit back and enjoy this year old device's constant development. The grass is always greener!

C'mon guys... Yeah, this'll probably never be a usable ROM, just like the Sense port, but it's cool as hell that they can even get it to boot. Let us nerds enjoy it .

plus, the sgs touch rom makers may think this is pretty neat, make voodoo run on this and make it into a honeycomb mp3 player

+1 for the honeycomb player

You don't need a kernel. Everything is broken anyway.. the i9000 kernel will do for now.

Yes, Honeycomb is designed for tablets. Enjoy the hard work the devs have put into the Froyo/Gingerbread ROMS and wait patiently for Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in the future.

That's good news it will support smaller displays 7 is a lot closer to 4.3 then before

its funny how everyone was b**ching about froyo taking too long....then people couldn't wait for GB. Now that its been leaked and is working for our phone, people want honeycomb.

Nexus One owners feeling a little Nexus S envy can breathe a little easier -- we're hearing that Android 2.3 Gingerbread is being pushed out to the N1 as we speak. We'd imagine that all the slick new features that don't require new hardware (like NFC support) will be there, and we're definitely interested in playing with this built-in WiFi calling stack. We'll let you know what we find -- won't you do the same?

Not really, but the actual dump from a real device would be nice, because it has drivers, and things like that. When infinitybiff makes a release, rest assured, not everything will work right away. I quote infinitybiff when I say that.
at least its good to have something out early, then work on fixes....good stuff
Heres some screenshots of the (slightly) new theme for gingerbread.

So.....Time to put Gingerbread rumors to rest?

Froyo source is out. The last ROM to leak out was KB1, and that was almost 3 weeks ago....and it came out not long after the official Froyo KA6. Forgive me for starting this discussion (or argument, depending on how this develops), but I'm thinking that the lack of any recent ROMs in conjunction with the release of KA6 Froyo source and absolute silence by Samsung on Gingerbread for Galaxy S pretty much means there is no way official Gingerbread is coming to Vibrant. I'm just saying. Not knocking Samsung (for this, anyway, no need to rehash everything Samsung SHOULD be knocked for), because they never promised Gingerbread. I'm guessing no more official Vibrant firmware development whatsoever is taking place.
I think (and this is just my opinion) we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves worrying about gingerbread. Especially when we have some epic ROMs to look forward to now that the froyo source is out.
I am waiting for the CM7 or teamwhiskey to port 2.3 to vibrant
If that's true, then wouldn't that mean that vibrant 4G would also not get gingerbread? Not 1 update.... at all?
Keep it in your pants buddy.
The reason there haven't been any leaks is because Samsung changed the ports on their FUS server. Haven't figured out which one it is yet.

Gingerbread is optimized for the Hummingbird while Froyo is optimized for the Snapdragon. It should give better performance. I finally had a chance to play with a NS for an extended time the other day and it is lightning fast bone stock. There are also some new api's that no one has begun to utilize...yet. It's like Eclair was - nothing special except for the processor boost. Icecream or whatever you want to call the next release is probably going to be a major upgrade with hardware acceleration and a ui overhaul.

[THINK TANK] HTC Sense 3.0 on Galaxy Tab .Update HTC Flyer Dump is OUT !

Let's set up a bounty!
That would be truly awesome... Sense UI is amazing...
Even if OP isn't a developer, I'm sure the thread can bring together developers who would be willing to spare some time and effort to get it ported... That's what XDA is all about
I think a good start would be to set up a bounty so we can entice those that do have the ability to get onto it...
I'm in favour of a bounty if we have enough people for that

I'm sure there will be a stable ics rom for the aria even if its not cm9. I have a very early one on my aria atm which runs well. Its not my everyday phone so idc that it does not have mobile or wifi lol. I just wanted to play around with ics.
IMO the sense 2.1 + 3.0 rom is more resource intensive than an aosp build of ICS. We'll see a smooth port on the aria, I'm sure of it. Not supporting the N1 was a business decision on Google's part not to support legacy hardware.

Adobe announced that they have one more build release to add support for 4.0, but that will be it (aside from standard bug and security fixes I suppose).

It's actually a huge detail. I for one will be happy just to see ICS, but ICS will pale in comparison to CM9.
Why wouldn't it be a cm build? The only reason we don't have one right now was because of the source not being released for honeycomb and cm doesn't downgrade devices. Shoot, cyanogen now works for Samsung, so they'd have a business incentive to get ics on the gt10.1 fast (albiet unofficially) considering it's their flagship tablet.
