I've read that the front-facing camera doesn't work on AOSP ROMs (yet?) in certain apps such as Yahoo IM that work the camera in a non-standard manner.
Does the FFC only work properly right now in ROMs based off the original shipping ROM? Does it work in other Sense ROMs?
Thanks!
It works. Just use Tango.

Okay... but on which ROMs do *all* the FFC apps work?
I don't own a Glacier but I've been thinking I might pick one up.

The FFC only works on apps that have been updated properly to gingerbread
so if you have a froyo rom all apps will work
if you have a gingerbread rom, only the apps that have been updated properly will work.

The work on all 2.2 ROMS. The only application that has currently updated the program to work with 2.3 is Tango.

But wait, my understanding is that the FFC does not work with Yahoo etc on CM6 (which is an AOSP Froyo ROM). You're telling me it does work on CM6? Or it only works on Sense Froyo ROMs?
Does FFC work on all apps with GorillaSens DHD-MT4G ROM? I would much prefer "standard Sense" over the variety that comes preloaded on the MT4G, but CM is what I use now on the N1.

Hey guys, I know about the whole "disabling sense" trick in the manage applications folder.
But I was wondering if it were possible to take all sense related things off of my evo completely?
I switched to this phone from the Droid thinking I would really enjoy sense but in all honest I don't.
Aside from updating to the hacked 2.2 Rom. I was wondering if there was a version of 2.1 for the evo that still allowed the camera to work (I use it numerous times a day and haven't really changed roms much because of it.)

No, there is not a full AOSP rom for the EVO. As far as I know at least. Darch has a full AOSP rom for the hero, but doesn't develop for the evo. (Not yet )
The best you can do would be disable sense, or flash a rom with "sense removed" which basically means they have replaced the top bar and launcher. From there you can simply install AOSP apps (mail, sms, phonebook, browser, etc) The only thing that you cannot change without an AOSP full rom would be in call. That will stay Sense.
Look in my sig..not the evolution rom the other one..its the closest 2.1 rom that has the most sense crap taken out that I can find.
Thanks man, ill definitely try it out

ok so ive had my aria for about one or two months and i been keepin up with the Liberated roms but Cyanogen just been itching the back of my head to try it so yesterday i did and ive been playin around with it and its some things i like and some i dont a little more that i dont so i restored back to liberated and i was thinking... can you integrate the roms r juss take parts from Cyanogen and put the on Liberated?
What parts would you want integrated into cm6 from liberated? If it's the sense widgets it's not possible to integrate them into cm6.

Yes, you can dump a ROM and play chef. Like what was said above, except for HTC Sense anything can be added or removed.
I didnt want to give up Sense at first so I made a custom 2.1 so I could keep Sense but have some other features that were on Froyo. Now I am just using CM6.
I kno you can't put sense parts in cm6 I wanted cm6 parts on liberated like the notification bar customization and the notification drop down that's like the main thing I like
And I would try and " play chef" with the roms but I Dnt kno were to start r wat im doing lol

Outside of the Sense stuff, CM6 has everything Liberated has and more. I think it would be a lot of work to add some of the mods from CM6. I was like you at first but I bought Launcher Pro and learned to live with CM6, now I can't look back. Do a nandroid of your Liberated then move to CM6 for a week, I think you might just like it.

Except properly working bluetooth. The stock bluetooth stack works fine, but AOSP bluetooth doesn't work at all with certain devices, for example the in-car bluetooth in my BMW.
Doesn't look like this will be fixed anytime soon either, as they either don't know how to or don't care enough to copy over the functional parts from the stock bluetooth.
From the FAQ:
Q. What's wrong with bluetooth? It doesn't work with my floozengadget.
A. Nothing. All bluetooth functions have been confirmed *WORKING* with compatible devices.
Q. But my floozengadget device is bluetooth compatible. What's wrong with bluetooth?
A. Nothing. Android AOSP bluetooth on the broadcom chipset is not compatible with every bluetooth device. Consistent compatibility issues have been noted with devices using certain parrott chipsets, certain automobiles with factory bluetooth including most Nissans, Volkswagons and an assortment of other devices and autos.
Q. Can you fix bluetooth so it will work with my floozengadget device?
A. No.

So, I am going to flash CM7 on my phoen pretty soon, but I will really miss the nice camera app from stock and the contact integration system (facebook, skype, +others). Is there any way that these features can be somehow used in CM7? I mean, is there some possibility for the CM mod to eventually use these features as default?
also, side note question, but, is Iced Glacier pretty much a Sense ROM?
thanks!

I/G is a sense ROM. Which uses the Sense Framework. Cyanogen is a AOSP ROM it is impossible for Sense framework .apk (programs) to work on AOSP ROMs. so to answer your question if you want the camera use I/G.
until htc open sources sense, which they wont do, we will never be able to get sense based apps to run without the sense framework.
Thanks guys. Do you know of any AOSP based apps which look nicer than the default camera, and are as fast?
also, i just thought of this, does CM7 support "swype" typing?
and does iced glacier make the phone run faster/longer than sense, just like CM?
sorry for all these questions in the same thread, but they are somewhat related

I dont have all of the answers you're looking for, but Iced Glacier should have better battery life than stock, and it should perform much better as well.

T-Mobile has open sourced their theming interface to the myTouch 4G.
https://github.com/tmobile
They say it will be rolled into CM7. I don't know if this will be enough to run the stock Camera app and Contacts app.
its already in cm7, but thats not whats needed for the sense features. It literally needs the sense frameworks.
OK so today I saw this videos Which shows on the desire HD Android 2.3.2. And sense 2.1 so when are we going to get that rom ported to the evo?

the only real problems with these is the 4g. so far, all of these are ports from other phones (like Warm-Z), and missing this feature because of lack of (access to) drivers, and unlikely to get it anytime soon. (correct me if I'm wrong?) as I actually get good 4g coverage, that's what keeps me from using these roms as DDs.
I guess the exception is the CM7 ROMs, but then there are GPS issues... and no Sense, obviously.
wrong. the 4g from cm can be implemented into other roms, and has been already in several. Also gps issues are fixed by resetting the gps in a sense rom.
Its just up to the devs to add it. There are more important things to get working before 4g though

I assume you are referring to some sense2 + GB ROM? the OP was asking specifically about that, and the only one I know of is the warmZ, that (as far as I know) has no 4g yet...? (admitidly I am not the flashaholic I once was, don't keep up on the nightlies like I used to)
also, IMHO, flashing to a rom to have toflash back is not a "fix", but a "workaround". (not flaming, our starting arguments, just an opinion. )

AH! Had not read through that thread at all. Very interesting! Thanks for pointing this one out to me.
And yea, i would assume that 4G will be the last thing to be in the "must fix" list, esp. over cam/wifi/ect.
thanks for the correction, sort of.

I'm currently using my stock froyo ROM with sense, and using the nfinitymc4 kernel(which means I can overclock, this is the kernel you need if you are using a sense based ROM), I prefer this to CM, as I believe its easier to use, looks better and is as smooth performance as Cyanogen.

I'm also using just a stock 2.2 with sense. i tried a few others but with every installation the phone seemed to get slower and slower. I did it all right but meh... anyway mines just a stock 2.2, but rooted and i reckon it runs great (considering the hardware limitations that is....)
Ah. Well he won't be using any major apps
Hell be using WiFi at home and that's it aswell as other basic phone features (call, todo list/calendar) and maybe sms.
I just wanted it so he could push some more juice out the battery fully charged.
I'll stick to stock. Any modifications in order to improve performance on stock roms?
Sent from my Desire HD
I am the developer of SkEye ( I can't post URLs yet. Search on Android Market by that name). The app works fine on 99% of the phones but not on HTC Wildfire! On Wildfire stock ROM, the app receives a SEGFAULT and closes silently. This shouldn't happen for a Java application, and from the logs it appears to be a bug in the OpenGL implementation in the stock ROM.
I don't have a Wildfire phone myself; but I get lots of user reports by email and Market comments.
Since we are talking about the best ROMs, can you try my app on your ROM and see if you manage to not crash the app?
Here's the exact sequence of steps to reproduce the bug:
Set the location on first run. Approx location will do.
Click Menu -> Indirect Mode
Click Add new alignment
Select any object. Doesn't matter which.
Click "Return" or press the back key.
Search for any object (Menu -> Search or the Search button)
If the app doesn't crash after this, please let me know your ROM. I will recommend it to my users.
Thanks!
Does your app depend on the usage of a GPU? The Wildfire and the Tattoo are among the few phones that doesn't have it, so that could be the problem.

It does require OpenGL, but doesn't strictly require a GPU. The interesting thing is that the app doesn't crash outright. It crashes only after the above steps are executed. I will start a separate thread in the developer section when I get access to it. For now, I would like to know if its a ROM specific issue. Particularly, does the Cyanogen ROM have this bug or not.
It crashed here also, on latest CyanogenMod 7 nightly. The "called unimplemented OpenGL ES API" errors in the log are fairly common though, and happens with almost all apps using OpenGL, like games etc. They still work fine though.

This isn't a issue of cyanogenmod, its because an older version (gmaps 5) is running on the sense roms, you can deinstall on cyanogen the new version of gmaps and install the old 5.0 and its running like on a sense rom. So don't blame cyanogenmod ( the best mod for me so far), no offence to you but most of the complains about cm7 are about users don't know how to handle cm7.

well i have tried, CM7, remPuzzle and jokerdroid. for me jokerdroid is the best, its very simple too, just flash the thing and you are good to go. i really like the aero theme too.

I've got 5.9 running on rempuzzle rom. which version does cm7 have?
I hate threads like this, each rom has its good points and also bad points too.....
Its all about preference try the different roms till you find one that suits you, its taken me nearly 3 months to make my mind up and trust me I've tested every rom. I don't believe in an out of the box rom as the customization of android is just unbelievable, every single rom can be tailored to your own needs, tweaked for extra performance and should be too, else what's the point in this community?
I've only been using android for around 5 months to its full potential and everyday I'm learning more and more ways to make my phone my own and as unique as I can make it.

I agree, but it's always good to get opinions so you know where to start. When I first started out on custom ROMs replies like "try them all" just aren't helpful.
