ok so ive had my aria for about one or two months and i been keepin up with the Liberated roms but Cyanogen just been itching the back of my head to try it so yesterday i did and ive been playin around with it and its some things i like and some i dont a little more that i dont so i restored back to liberated and i was thinking... can you integrate the roms r juss take parts from Cyanogen and put the on Liberated?
What parts would you want integrated into cm6 from liberated? If it's the sense widgets it's not possible to integrate them into cm6.

Yes, you can dump a ROM and play chef. Like what was said above, except for HTC Sense anything can be added or removed.
I didnt want to give up Sense at first so I made a custom 2.1 so I could keep Sense but have some other features that were on Froyo. Now I am just using CM6.
I kno you can't put sense parts in cm6 I wanted cm6 parts on liberated like the notification bar customization and the notification drop down that's like the main thing I like
And I would try and " play chef" with the roms but I Dnt kno were to start r wat im doing lol

Outside of the Sense stuff, CM6 has everything Liberated has and more. I think it would be a lot of work to add some of the mods from CM6. I was like you at first but I bought Launcher Pro and learned to live with CM6, now I can't look back. Do a nandroid of your Liberated then move to CM6 for a week, I think you might just like it.

Except properly working bluetooth. The stock bluetooth stack works fine, but AOSP bluetooth doesn't work at all with certain devices, for example the in-car bluetooth in my BMW.
Doesn't look like this will be fixed anytime soon either, as they either don't know how to or don't care enough to copy over the functional parts from the stock bluetooth.
From the FAQ:
Q. What's wrong with bluetooth? It doesn't work with my floozengadget.
A. Nothing. All bluetooth functions have been confirmed *WORKING* with compatible devices.
Q. But my floozengadget device is bluetooth compatible. What's wrong with bluetooth?
A. Nothing. Android AOSP bluetooth on the broadcom chipset is not compatible with every bluetooth device. Consistent compatibility issues have been noted with devices using certain parrott chipsets, certain automobiles with factory bluetooth including most Nissans, Volkswagons and an assortment of other devices and autos.
Q. Can you fix bluetooth so it will work with my floozengadget device?
A. No.

The link in the "sticky wiki" isn't working.... Is there an AOSP 1.5 ROM in existence?
I love the 1.6's but SMS doesn't work for me (deal-breaker) and data connection is lost a lot (bummer)
I just want my Hero to be vanilla and have everything work. Anyone point me in the right direction?
Go get a gutted rom - about as vanilla 1.5 as you can get for Hero.

Sounds great... uh, where? I'm comfortable with wiping, flashing, etc, but have never built my own ROM. Are you saying download the HTC newly released source, or are you referring to something else in existence?
I'm on the AOSP 1.6 now, but would love to have a "Senseless" 1.5 that's as fast as this AOSP 1.6 is.
Search the forum for Gutted 1.5 since it appears that the wiki is down.

I did, but that's only the home app. I'd like just vanilla. Plus I really like the stock calendar app better than HTC's version.
No one has done an aosp 1.5 yet suprisingly enough.

Yeah that doesn't work for me either. It's not the appearance that bugs me, it's the complete drop in performance that all the HTC stuff causes.

2.0
We have 2.0 that works well. Everything but camera and bluetooth. I use it a lot, it's AOSP 2.00
Just go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>HTC Sense>Clear Defaults. Then press Home. It will say HTC Sense or Home. Check the box and pick Home. Voila!

Yeah, I guess until HTC releases the 2.1 kernal (or whatever we're still missing) all these ROMs will be broken in one way or another. It's a matter of picking which things bug you the least. I don't need bluetooth, but I use the camera a lot. :-(

This gets me thinking, couldn't we just put our kernel under a moment Rom? Then we could have "vanilla" android?
If there really is enough interest in this, I could look into stripping all of the sense and htc framework from the base 1.5 rom, but I will make no promises since I'm more interested in my work on the 2.6.29 kernel...
So I decided to buy ROM Manager to support the project but have to admit I was a little disappointed. Sadly I prefer the candy coating of Sense to that of CM. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like in CM too. I just tend to like the polish of Sense. Regardless, I had thought I might have direct access to many of the ROMs I've seen throughout the forums. Apparently that's not the case. Does ROM Manager only support CM ROMs?
No worries. I know I could get a refund for the App and return it but I'm cool with it. Maybe in the future more ROMs will become available for it for the Incredible.
Rom Manager supports virtually any rom, it's just a matter of the author setting up his server to work with Rom Manager AFAIK. More will be added eventually.
The chefs have to opt in to be included in ROM manager. Moto Droid had tons of stuff to choose from and I loved it. I have yet to see anything interesting in ROM Manager for the Incredible. Urge your favorite chefs to participate!
Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully things will get more active in the future then.
ROM Manager will gain more roms in due time, there isn't really alot of roms out for the inc as it is now. Also like mentioned its up to the rom devs to put them on there. They will come.

I used to be a fan of Sense, but the fact of the matter is that it's bloated.
There are plenty of alternatives in a ROM like CM for all of the Sense features you'd miss.
Also u can download any ROM and use ROM Manager to install it. Just download rom go into rom manager and choose install from SD. Imho its easier than booting into recovery and installing. So, i. A sense it does support everything else. Its also ez to manage and restore ur backups through ROM manager. Once u use it for a while and figure it out it can b a very handy tool if u are addicted to flashing ROMS. Goodluck i hope this can b of assistance to u
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah the developer of ROM Manager strongly encourages all devs to submit their ROMs... Other phones such as the Moto Droid have a much larger selection... As ROM development gets further along, there will be more on ROM Manager for Incredible as well.
I think the incredible has been hurt by the lack of phones available. I don't recall the original moto droid having inventory issues like the incredible. I think this has hindered rom development and availability of different roms. Imagine if we did not have months of no incredible phones available. The popularity of the incredible might be different, thus in my mind making the demand and supply of roms more available.
I am a big fan of Cyanogen's roms so not that big of a deal for me. I know that once the drivers are released the camera will be fixed. I am wondering if we will be able to have video out with cyan's roms?
Either way - rom manager is a great program and has a lot of different functionalities and uses. Some listed below:
flashing other roms (duh)
nandroid
partition sd card
fix permissions
Let's hope that HTC releases the drivers soon

Well I'll have to half agree with you there, there are some Sense widgets that I could never find replacements for. It's really a trade off, although it would be nice if we could somehow extract some of those to be used with a 3rd party or even stock launcher

I'm tired of my phone being too slow, responding too slow to touch, lagging..
I have the android 2.1 OS on my HTC Hero CDMA and I was wondering if there were any general recommendations to speed up my phone.
I would be willing to put on a hacked OS, root it, or do whatever it takes as long as the phone is still fully functional. I'm pretty new with this stuff so bear with me.

Cm 6 - rc1 is a good start simply amazing going from stock. I get 0 lag. I must warn you always do a nandroid back up before changing ROMs. Its basically a clone of your phone's software and settings allowing you to recover from a bad issue.

+1 to all previous posts.
The Hero running out of the box stock with Sense is really pretty slow. I liked Sense, but I like a faster device better.
Follow the well documented instructions found on this site for rooting the Hero and then play around with different ROMs until you find one that fits you.
Personally I've been running Darchdroid and don't plan on ever switching again.
I don't even know what lag is any more.
Thank you for your responses.

The problem with installing something like CM is that those ROMs are missing a lot of the stuff that you are used to using. And you might spend a long time downloading, and looking for the apps you need. I found CM to be not much faster and a pain in the ass in some ways (the dialer is weak, same with the keyboard, etc.)
I know people are going to start pointing to all the apps you can download to replace what is there, but it's a pain, and time consuming.
If anything I would try one of Fresh's ROMs, which have Sense and most of the HTC apps. And his Toast versions allow for overclocking as well.
On another note, your Hero should not be slow. Have you tried a factory reset?? I have used slow Heros before, but when they are working properly there should be almost no lag with the stock 2.1 OS.
The kernel is under the thread cdma android development and as far as cm6 u can overclock as well with a different kernel and as for aosp vs sense its just user preference tryem both c which one u like best and stick with what works for u that's what there here for both are outstanding

That's the beautiful thing about CM6 though is the customization. I know its personal choice, but I actually love the CM6 Phone Dialer (one of the guys over on the theme board customized the background for in call to be a nice cyan color other than green) and like the AOSP keyboard moreso than the Sense Keyboard. You can however, install a variety of HTC_IME keyboards and get that same Sense functionality on CM6.
I only do a new nightly every few days and it might take me... 10 minutes or so to get my phone setup. That includes a Full Wipe, ROM Flash, Kernel Flash, Circle Battery Flash and now a Phone Dialer Flash. I connect to my wifi and the Market downloads all of my apps for me and I restore my settings with ADW Backups. Logging into an app every now and then doesn't bother me after I've flashed a new ROM.
This is an "to each his own" situation and I did use FreshROM for quite some time before making the switch. To me, I don't plan on looking back. I may be switching to the T-Mobile G2 when it's released and as soon as CM is made available for it I'll be rooted and running it in no time.

well if you mean close to stock as in how the phone came then the only thing we have is Iced-Glacier, if you mean close to stock as in vanilla or AOSP then you need to look into Cyanogen Mod. those are the only 2 that are not ports from another device
i've been using ice glacier for a while and so far so good.
i dunno, but i kinda like the stock sense interface, just wanted the bloatware removed, and ice glacier fits perfectly. Sounds like that's what you want as well
maybe when CM 7 is released i might go back to that
Man..dunno how you could want something more than Cyan, the speed increase is insane, it runs buttery smooth now. I am not a fan of MySense though so that may have swayed me a bit...

CM is lighter than sense, smaller footprint, generally very responsive. You do give up a lot of eye candy relative to sense, CM in comparison just looks unpolished. Of course polish is not its purpose. You can get a lot of the eye candy back with Launcher Pro + Fancy Widgets Pro + other free stuff on the market. Plus you get some nice features with LP. In fact right now I run FR008 with LP as the default launcher.
Why not just switch to CM? The biggest issue for me with CM is the total lack of ability to sync desktop Outlook without your data ending up on Google's servers. As best as I can tell there is no 3rd party app, paid or free, that will let you do that. The basic problem seems to be that stock Android will not allow calendars that are not synced to the cloud but still visible to the OS. HTC's version of Android does that, and does it well. So I am sticking with Sense for the moment, despite a few drawbacks.
Rooted mine yesterday finally and flashed liberated fr008 Rom w/ sense. Seemed to be a lot faster than original 2.1 for a few hours but now everything lags and incredible amount and battery is about half as efficient than 2.1. I also noticed my apps such as HTC music player and email are constantly running in the background even right after I kill them they will restart immediately. Do not really want to flash a whole new Rom w/out sense already since I just finished this one. I did not use Hong Kong kernel because I have no clue how to... wondering if that is the reason this is happening. This is my first time ever modding a phone of any kind. Does anyone else have this issue?

Rooted mine yesterday finally and flashed liberated fr008 Rom w/ sense. Seemed to be a lot faster than original 2.1 for a few hours but now everything lags and incredible amount and battery is about half as efficient than 2.1. I also noticed my apps such as HTC music player and email are constantly running in the background even right after I kill them they will restart immediately. I installed FR008 and had the same issues. Rolled back to FR007 and have not had any issues with the phone. Have been running it for a few months now. Went FR008 for about 2 weeks and went back.

Did you have to flash the Hong kong kernel with fr007 or did u leave the original? And is that with the sense UI?

No I believe it is the Graitia kernel. It is running sense. Running Liberated Aria (FRF91) with kernel 2.6.32.21. Hope that helps.
