Be less conductive? Use a piece of electrical tape? Use a protective case of some kind?
Or
On a rooted phone, disable the built in Car Dock application, either with the "pm" package manager command from a terminal emulator, or from the "Freeze" option of Titanium Backup Pro.

I finally got my MyTouch4G and after covering the entire thing in a stealth skin and putting it into a slim Tmobile acrylic case with grips and built in stand I ran into a little problem. I love the DeskApp on the phone which displays the weather and agenda as well as other details in a pretty slick little format. The problem is that the Application ONLY opens ONE WAY. Facing the charging jack. So basically I cannot use my stand and charge the phone while the desk app is open. I can only run the desk app when the phone is unplugged from the charger. Does anyone know how to get that app to have its bottom facing the camera button instead of the charching jack? Basically like a universal rotation?

You would have to edit the program somehow. If the source code were available for that app, it would definitely be easier. Could be as simple as changing a single parameter.
I don't know personally how to accomplish this... just letting you know what I feel is possible.
Hi @ll,
I have the following problem with my DHD (Cyanogenmod 7.2). Since a few weeks ago the "Car Mode" App is starting many a time and ususally even restarts again after closing it. After having searched in several discussion boards I found out that the signal for the Car Mode getting started is emitted by some kind of magnetic sensor or the like, suited to the car charching cradle. Though because I have none, I assume that there's a loose contact or something at that magnetic sensor, but to fix it, I initially have to know where it is. Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance.
Try to clean your usb port. A friend had the same problem and that helped.

Fix permission in recovery..maybe it should help...

Thank you, I tried both methods. Now I'm waiting for it to happen again or not.
What did the "Fix permissions" function actually do?
So it helped?

Yea, seems as if one of your both suggestions has helped
Hello there.
I did the "fix permissions" but it didn't help.
How did you guys clean the USB port?
Regards,
F.
Just clean it with compressed air from a compressor and use contact spray if needed.
Reflash
i had the same problem with jellytime.... i just reflashed the rom again and it went away .... hope it helps...
sometimes car home starts to pop up when it came in contact with any magnetic thingy..
If Car Home is going off without being near anything magnetic then you may have a bug. It's a very easy fix. Root your phone and download a app called Bloat Freezer. That just freeze car home and every other piece of bloatware you will never use.
---------- Post added at 01:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 AM ----------
Also u can use app like :
"Dock No-op" or
One more app is there named "Do Nothing "whenever it pop up it just block that happening. Just seach this on play store. I hope might help.

I did all the thing read here and on other forums ( freez carhomeGoogle.apk , delete from system/app , full wipe format , reinstal rom , even downgrade to gb , and now i'm back to ics , cleaning the charging slot ) car home does'nt open but the icon on notification still appears and dissapears randomly and my screen goes on and off all the time )
sorry for my bad english
I had this issue and the only way to fix was to replace the micro-usb port as it kept coming back.
replacing the micro-usb port usally helps.
Against all rumors,
the CAR home is started if the right resistor values are applied between certain USB contacts. No magnetics or magic needed.
To get rid of the problem no magic is needed either:
Take a wooden toothpick and crush one tip until you have kind of flat brush of about 4mm length, but as flat as possible.
Then take this 'wooden brush' and scratch all dirt out of the usb port. Be carefull not to apply presure to the small contact bridge in the middle.
Other than the name suggests, please do not use your teeth to form this brush. Humidity and electronics are not so compatible...
Best way:
It is easy if you just brush out the dirt by going in, brush, out allways the same way, collecting the dust in one edge.
Try to collect the dust in one edge of the connector on the lower wide area corner.
Then push it out with the intact side of the toothpick.
Never try to use the intact tip in the small area above the connector bridge. It will break it.
After that, Car Panel should stay closed and your USB cable shouldn't fall off anymore.

Hi Everyone
I'm having a problem with my lapdock. When I plug my Atrix in and select 'Motorola Webtop', everything appears to work; the screen shows the PC-like desktop, and I see a mouse. However, the mouse and keyboard on the lapdock don't work. Instead, my phone turns into a touchpad and keyboard. Navigating the screen requires me to lower the laptop dock screen to navigate via the phone.
Turning the small white light on the laptop dock's touch pad makes no difference.
How to enable keyboard and touchpad?
A couple of things -
Do you have a case on the phone? Go ahead and remove it, and remove the spacer on the lapdock next to the ports so that you have a little more wiggle room for the atrix. Try putting it back on now, and press it down so that it's snug and see if that works.
Are you on a stock rom? If not, does the rom you're using have a lapdock fix of some sort? If it does, use it, if you're already using it, try reflashing and retry without it.
I put the phone to the dock as much as I can but the result was same.
I'm on Alien ROM with Webtop HDMI hack. Is it possible this hack to make problems - the phone recognize the dock as TV.

Hi all. I've got a nexus 7 (first one) and the magnetic sensor is driving me insane. I've got magnetic mounts on my car dash and have metal plates stuck to the back of my tablet so I can use it as sat nav, music, etc...... But if I don't position the tablet just right it turns the screen off. I really need to disable the magnetic sensor. It is rooted and running custom rom but I haven't a clue how to disable the magnetic sensor. Anyone know? I've looked around on here and Google but nothing. Thanks all.
Just stripped my nexus down to find the sensor and its just behind the glass but its built into the LCD if you look closely it looks as if the LCD has been positioned off centre that's where the magnetic switch is positioned there is no way into it without cutting into the LCD case

I really need a software mod to disable it tbh as its still under warranty. I did see something on here about a system folder then LID folder but I tried changing the name of folder to disable it but it wouldn't work. Surely someone knows how to do it via altering a few lines of text or a flashable zip. Thanks.

Try asking whoever wrote your ROM or kernal (if your not on stock) they must have written in support for the sensor so presumably they would know how to "break" it

You should install xposed framework and MagnetOff Module (you can find tutorials on xda)

The original Sony magnetic dockingstation/charging set for several Xperia devices is hardly usable for tablets, although there are some plastic spacers included for tighter fitting. Tablets are too big in size and even a slight touch will tilt the construct if the dock isn't fixed properly on the desk.
The idea is to utilize the magnetic contact interface of the dock for a flat lying tablet. So the tablet stays touchable and operable while loading without fiddling with the tablets Micro-USB slot.
Instructions:
1. open the original dock by removing two screws under the non-slip rubber band
2. extract the Micro-USB circuit-board and the magnetic contact interface
3. mark the plus and minus contacts on both parts boards (red wire plus, black wire minus)
4. unsolder the red and black wire and remove superfluous solder (on the circuit-board contacts) for tighter assembling
5. assemble contact interface and USB-board together (see attachment) by using super glue (plus activator if available)
6. rewire the contact interface and USB-board (see attachment)
7. optionally mount a mini LED (and resistor) for operation control between wire contacts (see attachment)
8. fix (and overcoat) the construct with dry adhesive
9. ready

I bought this dock. And it works PERFECT. I actually bought 2 docks and I have one spare if anyone wants it. I bought it for my gf's house but we broke up, so now I don't need two.
