Game Gripper - EVO 4G General

The game gripper is finally going to have a bluetooth model that could work with our evo's(ASOP) This would give us functionality like the Xperia play without having to buy the phone. This accessory would be great for every keyboardless phone. The developer teamed up with a manufacturer to develop this. However he can't sell or ship them unless he has a certain amount of start up. If you'd like to donate to see this become a reality then go to this link
The donation can count as a pre order so you wouldn't be paying twice for it.
The links to a video and the donation site are available on phandroid
While the Game Gripper is an accessory i have a reason for not posting this in that section(if the mods think this should go there feel free to move it)

Sweet!!!!! I need it! As long as its cheap.
You got any links?

Just go to phandroid and look in the recent articles, they have links to the site and the video

It currently does not work with the EVO. If they get it working then I will gladly pledge the $47.

Maybe they tried it with a sense Rom... that's why they couldn't get it to work. I'm sure if they were using an aosp Rom it would work.

This should work with any Evo running CM7. My wiimote works for example. Anyway pledged for one since the setup is pretty slick compared to lugging a wiimote around

If you mean HoneyComb then you're going to be waiting until there's something official to work from unless you want a virtually useless SDK build. As yet it's not out there.
wait will come. how long you purchased sgt. ;-)

May I suggest changing the thread title to [Bounty] Honeycomb Port? The title "Bounty" is more consistent with other bounty threads I've seen here on XDA.
Once official is released (not SDK), I have $40 for a working CDMA port.
All I gotta say is, how in the world does the nook get a honeycomb port and we're left in the dust.....wtf! Thats an ebook reader

Obvisouly a very open and easy platform to mod. Hopefully After the 2nd we will have something to work w/.

That's not true. You can get make a working rom from SDK builds, but it'll (probably) be laggy and a lot of things won't work as it should. The wonders they've done on the Nook is amazing IMHO. Hats off to them.

If someone ports honeycomb to the Galaxy tab, I will first buy a Galaxy tab immediately... and then donate to whoever did it!

Oh I've seen it. Whilst impressive, it's still a glorified tech demo. It's certainly not very useful as a full system.

Pretty sure that's basically what I said. "virtually useless" = "lot of things won't work as it should". The usual suspects of GPS and Camera will be high on that list.
If people are happy with a system with very few native apps which is slow & unstable (ala the Nook "port"), then sure, go for it. Otherwise you're still going to be waiting for AOSP to drop, (which may be later today, but I'm not holding my breath), or for an official firmware to rip apart. Then someone needs to hack the hardware-specific drivers into life on the tab, might be a piece of cake if the 2.x source is friendly with the 3.0 libraries, someone more coding-minded would need to assess that one.
I'm all for someone hacking something together to have a play with to see what it looks like, I just hope people aren't expecting a release-quality port based off an SDK "demo".

Scratch that... I bought one today haha
Ill put down $25
ill give $100
I'd give and keep giving as long as development continues, I would love a fully functional honeycomb port. To be honest I'm dying to get something as smooth and fast as cyanogen on my tab cause I hate the fact that my nexus one performs better than my tab, faster, and has more features than my tablet =\ especially since the tablet has more powerful hardware. I can't wait for honeycomb and I'd freakin subscribe if there was a donation subscription.

just got an evo whats something i can do with my old hero?

If I remember they use the same battery so there's that, and ill hold onto it for s back up but what's something usefull I could do with it.
Experimentation. Like try something you never did with rooting now. Some people don't ever theme or apply kernels. Do anything haha.
From my Gingerbread Hero.
Sell it for 100$ on craigslist.com
Donate it to a dev.
I sold my Hero on craigslist for 150 bucks after I got my Atrix. Nothing really you can do after you get a phone like an Evo.

Buy a bigger battery and use it as your portable media device. Donate to a dev, or find somebody in your community that has an old phone and upgrade them. That's what I did when I bought two hero's from the forum.
Could it be used (without mobile data) to keep track of running or road biking workouts with a GPS app? Haven't ever tried, but it's waht I plan to do with mine. If not, I'll just sell it.

I'd agree, but i think a lot of people are jumping ship now becasue thier contracts are up and the Hero can't run a lot of newer stuff. Not sure how much more dev work we'd get. However, donating to a dev is always a great choice! They do awesome work!
try the new gingersense. its an alpha but its a great alpha

Idea: Lets pool resources and offer a reward!

Ok, not sure if this is going to be cool with the moderators or not, so if not, lock/delete it. I have an idea...let's encourage the devs to spend a bit more time looking at the EVO Shift...by offering up a cash incentive to the first person or team that gets us properly rooted on Gingerbread. Maybe offer to Paypal them some cash? i know I'd chip in. Heck, right now I'll say I'll paypal $50 to the first person or team that gets me rooted. If everyone chipped in, even a few bucks, it could really add up and create an incentive...

I know people want the update but honestly the devs are working on it and giving them money isnt going to make them come up with a soultion faster they need time.
Now when they release something a donation is a great way to say thanks but we dont want to rush them

I haven't heard about anyone working on it. I believe they are working on it for other devices.
Throw me down for $50 as well.
So, we've got $100 already...come on...lets offer some incentive for the devs to come back to the EVO Shift for a while...
Im telling you the devices they work on are related to the shift and they can port the same methods. They are already working on the shift and other devices related to it
So, therefore us offering a reward helps not only Shift owners but others too. Fantastic!
count me in! I desperatyl need to get rid of 2.3 because mobilenet doesnt compatible with my metropcs flash! so ill throw 25-50 sumthing in between!
Lol I think our shifts are gunna be left behind cus seems like everyone's focusin on the EVO or EVO 3 d
Sucks for us shift owners

I remember the same talk regarding rooting 2.2.... everyone saying no one was working on it and then BAM! Root.
The thing is development doesn't get done on XDA. When it's done it gets posted to XDA. Just because you don't see it happening doesn't mean it ain't. Imagine you're a dev: Would you post that you're working on it if you're unsure if you can do it? It'd accomplish nothing but dissapointment.

reward
Last i checked theres a reward offer in the Evo forum also. It was up to 300 i think a couple days ago.
Nice! Hopefully once one is rooted, either one, the other one will be that much easier.
I know it is fustrating to wait I am among the many waiting for the same thing. That being said you never hear what the developers are working on because they dont want to give off any clues to htc as to what they are doing so HTC dont send a silent OTA to seal up any exploits that may gain root for us. But to the team that does get the job dont I will be donating to them definatly I cant wait to get my hotspot back for my Iconia Tablet when I am on the road.

A Great Loss To The XP Community

So I went to check on PSXPERIA and I see this message posted by yifanlu
Update: (01/06/2012) I've decided to sell my Xperia play and discontinue all my work on the platform. Like SE, I lost interest in the Play because of the lack of games and a general lack of content. Also, I cannot stand Android anymore, especially SE's skin. I was looking forward for ICS, but after seeing SE put their skin on that too, I won't want to deal with it anymore. As for PSXperia, I have always released the source and documents for everything I release. I also have a few writeups on reverse engineering the psx emulator on my site. I will no longer be providing support for PSXperia and won't be managing the bug reports on github. Again, everything is open source and under GPL, so anyone can pick up where I left off (for example, improving the UI, future emulator compability, etc). I hope the project won't die!

Just wanted to say this is going to be a big loss to the community. PsXperia was the only program that allowed us to make backups where the analog controls worked and I loved that feature.
Going to be sad seeing him leave this sub-forum and also abandon his projects because he was a resource of knowledge and a helper to everyone he came upon.
I hope this type of "giving up" behavior is not seen anymore because it will really hurt further development for the Xperia Play.
Well hope you do well my friend yifanlu. I hope you have fun with whatever you do next. Atleast one person has appreciated your work and that was me.
I have to disagree about ICS tho. I never was excited about it. Just more useless features I don't want or need
So from myself and whoever else wants to join.
Goodbye and good luck.
If you people have Kindle readers, you'll find him there as well, as he jail broke some of them. Show him your support!
Thanks for everything, Yifan Lu!

Sadly I do not have one.
All i have right now is 2 droid X's and 1 Xperia play locked bootloader
Wow, this really sucks! I do see this becoming a trend, hell last night, while researching some stuff, i was thinking to myself, how tired i was of the lack of content, and i also noticed that even here on XDA, developement for the play has pretty much come to a crawl. I am on here daily, and its been awhile since something BIG and NEW has been published for the Play. I was thinking of paying to unlock BL, but then decided not too, there is nothing, i want, no big accomplishment, that i need, that warrants shelling out hard earned money for a BL Unlock. Pretty sad really, i came from a "Starter" android, not even that great of a phone, but it was SOOOOO easy to flash, root, unlock, and developement was insane! To see this great device, basically sinking, and some good devs, jumping ship, its pretty sad.
EDIT - However on a upside, maybe with the phone being free now we will see an increse in activity, but i kinda doubt it.
Well once a good Rom for locked bootloaders is released with a stock OC ability, I think things will become a lot more interesting.

Exactly, Only a small portion of Xperia Play users have the unlockable bootloader version.
Lack of games? Lack of content? The content's growing so large that I'm usually too overwhelmed to deal with updating my list as frequently as I'd like.
Oh wait... it's just another stealth-anti SEXP Hogwarts thread... moving along.
EDIT: I do appreciate all the guy's done for breaking into PSPocket to make it into what the community wanted it to be, but honestly, it's been the exact opposite case for me - Xperia PLAY's got so much good software on it's own, and has brought so many games from crap touch-screen controls to something that's enjoyable that I haven't really cared to mess around with crap I already beat from 2 generations ago.
I think the community here is still going strong, especially with all the brilliance DooMLoRD brings us

Logseman saw the opportunity and took the phone. and the rest is history.

you could mess up some peoples device. brick it even.
unless you know alot of knowledge in decompile / assembley / editing then i wouldnt suggest to get into custom rom ok.

I feel like I'm walking into my own eulogy , but I guess I should say that the main reason I left IS because someone offered quite a generous amount of money for my Xperia play, and my other excuses including the lack of content and android sucking aren't enough to have made me part with the phone. So, I don't want to give the impression that I left because I hate Xperia play. Just that I'm a poor student and need money, and I reasoned that I would have enough extra to buy a ps vita, which I believe is exactly what I wanted in the play (well, after someone hacks it, which shouldn't be long). It has useable analog sticks (I could never get used to the touchpads), a big screen, Sony first party support, PSP games. (and I never used the play as a phone anyways)
Again, I really hope that someone will take over psxperia, and that the project won't die. And I'll still lurk here from time to time.
All the best yifanlu, maybe see you hacking the ps vita yourself

Media Link + Google Play Edition

So it seems that the Google Play Edition HTC One has moved away from sense framework completely and I should give up hopes of my Media Link HD ever working with my device again.
Anyone else out there with a media link that is now unusable due to not being on a sense rom?
I'm not too upset because #chromecast
