What is AOSP??

Its freaking Source Code! Not a ROM, or a ROM that has removed apks and pushed prebuilt apks form a nexus one into an update.zip!!

I really wish guys, but i won't be able to update unless my hero gets destroyed beyond repair and with some generosity sprint lets me replace it with an Evo

Im about to start some bs at work and say i lost my evo just to ship it to you. Im sure they ll give me a new one, problems is, will you be able to use mine if they reported as lost?

Probably not. But I would be really curious to see what happens if you claim the insurance and tell them that you "sold it"

Darch, just want to say I'm sorry about the mis-communication over the "get darch an evo fund", I felt like **** when you finally pm'd me
I think it's time we do it again. You would obviously be a tremendous asset to the EVO community and yahweh knows you deserve it!

*edit- not promoting fraud but I will say this: if you report a lost phone to asurion and get a replacement they do NOT blacklist the esn.. just saying

@darchstar: as AOSP is a software stack would it be acceptable to then say that all roms are built ON TOP of the AOSP system?

Wasn't there a thread awhile back for a donation to buy you an EVO? I thought they reached the goal but I didn't follow it much past that really.

Yes, we raised the money. I couldn't get ahold of darch for like 2 weeks and like a complete asshole I assumed he had lost interest or decided to stick with his Hero. I didn't know how long I had to issue refunds without being charged a penalty and I didn't want to piss all the donators off

I still got $30 on it if we want to do it again.

If I remember they use the same battery so there's that, and ill hold onto it for s back up but what's something usefull I could do with it.

Experimentation. Like try something you never did with rooting now. Some people don't ever theme or apply kernels. Do anything haha.

I sold my Hero on craigslist for 150 bucks after I got my Atrix. Nothing really you can do after you get a phone like an Evo.

Buy a bigger battery and use it as your portable media device. Donate to a dev, or find somebody in your community that has an old phone and upgrade them. That's what I did when I bought two hero's from the forum.

Could it be used (without mobile data) to keep track of running or road biking workouts with a GPS app? Haven't ever tried, but it's waht I plan to do with mine. If not, I'll just sell it.

I'd agree, but i think a lot of people are jumping ship now becasue thier contracts are up and the Hero can't run a lot of newer stuff. Not sure how much more dev work we'd get. However, donating to a dev is always a great choice! They do awesome work!

Support Android4Autism with your old device

As I proceed with my Android4Autism plans I need to have an idea of the types of devices people are willing to donate. I may have to outsource ROM development depending on the device and whether or not I have time to put a working ROM together for each type.
So as the EVO 3D and GSII prepare for launch what will you be doing with your old device? Perhaps you have an old Hero or even a Moment. If you are willing to support this cause please indicate what device you are willing to or able to donate.
Remember the status of the ESN does not matter. These device will NOT be activated. They need to be in "decent" and working condition. Remember these are going to go into the hands of special needs kids so they do need to be perfect.
Also, I can use micro sd cards (any size) and phone cases. Extra battery chargers would be welcomed.
Please indicate in the poll what you are able to or willing to donate. I'm not ready to receive any donations yet so please just hang on to them and maybe shoot me a PM with your pledge and email address so I can contact you when I'm ready.

That would be so cool. Plus they shouldn't shoot down the idea it's for an amazing cause ..that's a great idea Rob im sure they'll be glad to do this.

I vote for this to stay at the top. I'm sure people will be more than willing to donate( I would but I don't have any other smartphones, and I can't upgrade yet).

First off thanks for all the support. It has been a very cool few months I learn alot here from all you guys. I just got the 3D today and don't have an EVO any more but I will keep on helping out ppl here and try to do as much as I can to help porting.

I hear you get 150 for your evo so final price is I guess based on how much sprint gives you the phone for on an upgrade.

I feel so sorry for all these devs who are investing in the ****tie 3D but fail to realize when new releases from Sprint comes later in July to September, it'll blow their kiddie spy phone out the water. Plus they just blew their upgrade. . oh well.

Chubbz thanks for all you brought to the EVO and all you will bring to the 3d.
The 3d is far from a crappy phone. I really hope you stop using other devs work with this attitude. Honestly, you can't comprehend the amount of time it takes to develope a ROM you use free... And if a dev wants to say good bye to those who they have become friends with, let them. Certainly don't appreciate or need comments like this around here. What have you contibuted? Thought so.

$50 plus taxes. After calling account services and asking for credit to extend contract, mine was free after trade in..

I'm at my 1 year upgrade but they said is only $75 off the retail price so it will cost my $475 plus I have to sign a 1 year contract. Also I'm on my 4th replacement in a month but they also won't let me switch to another phone since they say none is comparable....i talked to management and fought and fought for an hour and for nothing.....
Also didn't know they did trade-ins either, no one at Sprint offered me that....

Yes devs contribute a lot and we praise each one of them just the same but why do you all have to post a thread each just to wish farewells. I get it may be said out of respect but i dont know. Plus sometimes I feel as if some devs takes advantage from us with their "buy me a beer" attitude. Believe me, I'm all for giving praise where place is due but I can live just fine without rooting or a rom, live moves on.

I figure this is a xda forum between friends, and I have enjoyed these threads just for the "human element" they contain. We all appreciate the labor of love that developers put into their roms, and when they feel the desire to say goodbye to their friends, acquaintances, and flash addicts it is good for the community.
IMO, ignoreance is greater than dissidence.

Just got off the phone with my local corporate store:
I'm eligible for the 1-year upgrade discount (currently 1 year into my 2 year contract). So, if I was looking into getting the 3D right now, it'd be 550-150 (Evo trade-in credit) - 75 (1-year upgrade credit) = $325 + Contract renewal for the 3D. Think I'll wait for a drop in price. Either that, or flip the EVO on Craigslist.

I have been here on xda for awhile so I received alot of knowledge from the devs and flashers so I decided to say thanks and move on to bigger and better things. The reason why ppl put a donation or buy me a beer link is because ppl asked for a link it not required.

Stay Optomistic for 2.3 Root

Im always reading on here and people keep asking where the 2.3 root is and wondering if the devs have abandoned the Supersonic EVO 4G. Here is what I have gathered in regards to both of those questions.
The devs are working on the EVO3D to provide the community with root access on that device. From what I've gathered there are many things in the process that are similar to the Supersonic EVO 4G and some that are not. They have stated that they have Temp root available already and the Temp root should be sticky (Permanent) by the end of this week. I don't own an EVO3D so this doesn't mean much to me personally but what it does mean is that once the root becomes sticky for the EVO3D that we can look forward to there being more activity on the Supersonic EVO 4G forum. The devs haven't forgot about the Supersonic EVO 4G. Just be patient.

After reading everyone's side by side comparison, I don't see the point in buying a 3D. I'm hopeful for a new 4G root soon!

I don't agree with that. Sprint doesn't develop phones; they offer service. So to blame Sprint for hardware problems (HTC) or for software problems (Android/Google) is unreasonable. I mean you can call up Sprint and stress your point but your not going to get anything done in a timely fashion.

but who has the final say on the updates its the carrier! it is just hard to believe that with all the problems with the GB update Sprint/Google/HTC and anyone else is turning a deaf ear and blind eye.I could care less about root I just want my handset to work the way it did before the updates. that is all im asking for i know it will never happen ..

Exactly. I really think it will be rooted soon enough. The 3d is being worked on but even with all the work, HTC still needs to unlock it. They said they would unlock bootloaders for future phones but never specifically said the Evo3d or the Sensation.
I wonder what will happen if for some reason HTC decides not to do anything and people get stuck with the Evo3d that is unrootable. Too risky for me. At least we know our phone has been rooted many times.

Comparing my wife's now unrooted Evo (thanks to a new refurb) side by side with my 3d....The 3d kills the OG Evo. That being said.....I still prefer her rooted Evo 4G over my stock Evo 3d.........Patiently waiting to root both. I'm sure it will be done. Both phones still have huge communities.

I wonder if we got together a bounty maybe it would be paid a bit more attention. I got a.replacement last week and its driving me crazy not being rooted. I really miss cm7 and I'm eager to try a few other roms. Considering I'm about to buy a used rooted EVO for the time being id rather donate to a developer instead. I have no problem paying someone for their.skill if I .don't have it. Hell I bought easy tether pro for $10 cause my EVO is my only internet access .

I'm sure there are people that are working on the EVO but I can't find a thread or post that supports that so untill someone says that they are working on it and are actively updating the community with the process I'm going to look towards the EVO3D for info.

It will come, like the many of you. I'm just sitting back waiting...

This. There is a lot of hopeful talk about being patient and exactly zero information about anyone working on the 4G. I hope I'm wrong, but for now it just reads like wishful thinking by those of us without the ability to root since the GB OTA (thanks HTC).
