Just wanted to say thanks again to all the Devs and Samsung for such a great phone. In fact I have owned this for half a year, which may be the longest I owned a phone in years. 2.2, haha who gives a damn. Ive been running it since the good people here made it available. I love TMO and my month to month plan rocks too. Since it released 6 months ago, I would expect a successor to come out by now anyway.
Thanks again Rom developers.
+1 I agree the phone is a great phone regardless of the lameass treatment we get from Samsung........
1+ love my vibrant. Even convinced a co worker to return his hd7 for a vibrant. Installed nero 5 voodoo on his and loves it way more than the hd7

thank you finally a worth while thread i dont understand why there are so many threads on this forum that try to bring the phone down because of the 2.2 update that none of them probably need. honestly most of the people that post on those threads already have rooted their vibrants and are running a 2.2 rom. the only ones that have a right to complain are the developers that are waiting on the source code to make their roms better. this is a great phone and currently still one of the best if not the best available in the us market.

+1 gotta say I love my vibrant especially with Neto 5. Nothingmore I could possibly need/want.
I wish the update for my MyTouch Fender would finally get pushed out to me. I have missed my Vibrant so much this past week. It is such a great phone, and can't be matched by anything T-Mobile or Google have out now or in the near future.

It's inevitable, most new phones in 2011 will be dual core. No worries about battery either, tegra 2 is pretty amazing. had some hands on at CES. For now, Im loving on my Vibrant.
I really like the vibrant as well I just wish TouchWiz with Android 2.3 would come instead of 2.2 so I'm still sad that Samsung has been such a *****.
I just got my Vibrant a couple of weeks ago as well (while it was free), moving from the MyTouch Slide. Nero v5 is one of the most stable roms I've used. The phone is beautiful, it flies, and I simply don't need the FFC and curved screen that Nexus S has. And god only knows when Maine is going to get 4G.
It definitely sucks that phones have to wait so long for an update, but it's not just Samsung. HTC still hasn't updated the Slide. The latest update is that a) Wifi calling isn't working reliably and b) they can't get it to install because of limited space on the system partition.
I figured if I was going to be rooted and providing myself with updates, I might as well have a nicer phone than the Slide.

Dual core is nice, but their is more to a device then the processor. Having the 16GB on board along with a memory card slot is what I love about the Vibrant. Until T-Mobile has a device with both, I will stick with my Vibrant.
Not sure what all the buzz is on the dual core. Android is not, and probably will not be optimized for dual core devices until next year, due to the nexus s, google's flagship, using the same single core hummingbird. Besides, compared to a vibrant on browsing and opening apps, you may have a 1-3 second difference, not worth the $200 upgrade.
Besides, all apps will mainly be optimized for single core devices, which are still the majority. And the power sgx 540 in the hummingbirds fares well against the tegra 2 gpu.
before my top device comes out, better ones are coming out or at least rumored too...i understand technology but this is too fast for me, jeez at least let me buy one first before coming out with the next better thing...
http://mobile.engadget.com/2011/05/...orlds-first-1-5-ghz-dual-core-phone-tablet-i/
ps im talking processor speed btw
No thanks. I'll pass on a pantech product.
Is computer hardware or phone tech moving faster
Im not sure what's worse, pantech or kyocera. I think pantech phones would be alright if the UI was better.
Faster doesn't always = better.
Pantech & TFT kinda detracted from the wow factor too.
I oddly like the name "Vega Racer". Why? I'm scared to ask myself.
they look like crappy iphones...IMO..
You need to stop looking at it that way and be happy by how fast the market is going. Would you prefer it if we're still sitting on 500MHz processors like in 2009?
No no not at all, I hear your side too, it just that I would like to get my Evo 3d befirevits outdated by q better processor

The evo 3d uses the same chipset.
I said this a couple of weeks ago. By the time the 3D comes out there will be 3 or 4 more phones with better specs set to drop a couple weeks/months later. Look at the Samsung phone that just leaked on Tmobile.. the Hercules.

The cpu inside the Hercules is the same family as the dual core Snapdragon found in the Evo 3d.

Your point was by the time the 3d is out, there will be faster devices out. You then referenced the Hercules, which will most likely have near same performance of the 3d, but probably borked support from Samsung.
Interesting...but pantech? No thanks.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
Correct me if I'm wrong, might be same family but isn't the 3d at 1.2 dual core?
And I totally get your point, I feel outdated just three months later. Same reason I'm holding off on a tablet...ipad is a perfect example, couple months after spending 600 or so my friend feels like an idiot just a few months later he's considering another 600 just cuz of the stupid camera...

Not sure this is exactly a new thing, across the board as a whole. Always something better around the corner. And what's there to be bothered about something being better than something you don't even own yet ... ? Whether or not it is 'entirely' better or 'marginally' better.

Yup the evo 3d is undervolted to 1.2 ghz for minimum battery drain but will be overclocked soon enough, just look at the g2 overclock threads to see the potential qualcomm chips have.
After a year with my evo, I believe I can easily wait until next year to upgrade since every phone coming out has specs bumps and nothing else . Just because a better spec laptop comes out doesn't mean to run out and get it.
It will be hard but I'm sure ill hold off on the evo 3d and get the next gen evo next july.
What's the point of this thread? The EVO3D has a better screen, higher resolution, and although the clock speed is 1.2 gigahertz, it will easily be able to overclock significantly higher.
The G2, as someone else mentioned, has been overclocked up to 2 gigahertz. A G2, which has an older chipset and has a stock speed of merely 800 MHz.
Till the photon 4g forums gets set up. I hear its going to be within the week. I figured it couldn't hurt to have a spot where EVO owners like myself who decided to pick up the Photon 4g can discuss there thoughts and comments comparing the 2 phones. so prospective EVO owners who want to switch can see what we think. I know when i was searching for this info before i got mine today, I couldn't find much. I will try to post something of a comparison after i get this thing fully set up and I've had some sleep.
Good luck all and tear this thing up!
Edit: My Sudu-Review.
Picked up my Photon today it's sick, I'm glad i held off on getting the 3d.

Am I the only one that absolutely hates the pentile display? It looks like grainy pixelated garbage... I've played extensively with Evo 3D and have used an Evo 4G for a year, and both of those look much better than the Photon's display... Everything has a checkerboard texture to it. Its awful.
I see what you mean by the pixilation. but my reds and whites are brighter. So i guess its a tradeoff. but in normal day to day use you won't notice the difference. and i love the feel of the gorilla glass its awesome.
Besides the tegra chipset whats the difference between this and the EVO?
I don't think there much difference other than the 3d part

The Photon has 16GB of NAND, the Evo 3D has 4GB.
Different GPU. Different Camera.

Last part is very true. but I'm really hoping they will unlock it. I didn't even bother with the 3d cuz i didn't feel it was an upgrade from the OG Evo. I also couldn't care less for the way HTC did their 3D technology. The photon was appealing for its specs as well as the fact that its a world phone.
So far it feels speedy fast compared to my OG Evo. the photon is a tad thicker but feels better in the hand. Not sure if which phone is heavier but i really love the feel of the photon (did i mention that already). Im still setting up my phone so i can't speak for software yet. But mobile hotspot works great here on 4g...
Took a while for the Atrix to get rooted, but they did it. And Motorola is supposed to do the OTA roll-out unlocked bootloader thing... they just need to hurry it up.
I need to head down to my local Sprint store and start looking at the phones to compare... unfortunately my upgrade isn't until September

Also, might be a good thing it's for September, by then all the options will be out [Including the Within] and all rooted by then as well.

Also has:
Firefox Desktop browser
USB host (KB/Mouse, USB storage devices)
Accessories:
Media Dock with IR Remote (think Evo Desktop/Media Center)
Root and custom ROM's aside, the Photon has more functionality than the Evo has after a year of heavy development or the 3D. I love hacking/modding/improving all my stuff but this is the first device that I'm happy with (root and custom ROM's not withstanding) out of the box.

Eh, Motoblur lol.
I'm not saying it doesn't have more to offer than the Original Evo, but I do think that it's all about modifying.
If I can't run AOSP I'm not interested.
I'm heavily leaning towards this new device now. I know the Chef support will be great on the 3D, but the Moto has me interested. I have one upgrade now and another in October. Choices....hmmm.

If this is not a yearly upgrade you can call and have an upgrade reset done for 25 or 45 depending on your account. It gets billed to the account so no upfront cost.

Update. Fake rumor http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-3-rumor-isnt-real-we-wish-it-was
Access denied trying to view that page. I also like the jump. I feel like the atrix 2 was a major let down, it also didnt get a lot of attention from the carrier and marketing wise, hopefully the 3 is much improved.
And it should have an FP scanner as well
I don't know if I really should buy something from MOTO again.
But I never ever buy an Android phone without testing it.
Things like 1080p playback, USB stability, stability in general and of course an open bootloader are more important for me than great hardware specs.
I want more stability!
Use the fuc...... hardware this time!
But the Atrix 3 looks really well.
Hope that MOTO learned from their stupid decisions...

Nice, Tegra 3 is the future.
I was disapointed to not see Tegra in the Atrix 2, thought Moto gave up on nvidia.

Color me skeptical. The photos look like someone took an Atrix 4G and slapped some crude signs next to them. Notice that there's nothing on the display itself, just a blank screen. It may be legit, but like the article said, it could be a fake, so I'm not putting any stock in it until there's confirmation.
This phone is worth getting if our amazing devs move to it. But spec wise looks promising

Its too late for me. A Sony phone or galaxy s3 for me. The unlocked bootloaders from the beginning attracts all kinds and a lot of devs. Plus Samsung encourages custom ROMS. They're getting to be a better OEM since the galaxy s2 line. Shoot, there's an ICS ROM leak for a couple of American galaxy s2 phones as we speak! When is some of Motorola's phone's update? Q3...

What the hell am I going to do with 2GB of ram and a quad core cpu on my phone ?
Render 3D animations? LOL
Linux, anyone?
Motorola Atrix 4G AT&T unlocked
I would love 2GB of RAM and more internal memory than the regular Atrix(32GB instead of 16GB).
I don't really care that much if its a quad-core and dual-core because the software barely takes advantage of the dual core processor if they are going to go with quad-cores now then make the processors take advantage of software for once with apps and video games as well as being able to play HD videos of different formats.
I would settle for a nice dual core 1.5-1.7 Ghz processor that is battery efficient

exactly why I plan on keeping my phone for a long time.
it's fake . i Thing the gonna build razor 2 or droid 5 with better qwerty
"It's shopped, I can tell by the pixels" . Though I did have my doubts by look since it looks a similar shape of our atrix, but with the hardware buttons blacked out and the logo flipped to the bottom. If it is true (slim chance), I think the 2 gigs of ram would be overkill for most users, save power users and linux folks. Well we shall see in time I guess.
That sucks! I was really looking forward to that phone if it was real! That would have been a monster of a battery in the thing. Week long use anyone?
Dear Vibrant,
You have kicked a lot of ass these past few years. With the help of all these badass developers on XDA, you were still able to outperform many new devices especially those crappy HTC phones. Unfortunately, I'm happily looking forward to replacing you with a Galaxy S3. The hardest decision now is which color do I get?
Best Wishes,

I agree that Samsung has delayed the updates etc. But do you not agree they make one hell of a phone?
My Vibrant has been the greatest phone i have ever had, and I'll go right back to Samsung, know why? Samsung may not provide the best timed updates, but look at the other manufacturers. HTC and Motorola both lock bootloaders, and for me its a choice between HTC or Samsung. Samsung clearly wins. Specially with the developers we have here.
Also @ OP
I think the is it Pebble Blue? Looks pretty good, but its being delayed internationally because they screwed up on the battery covers.

If Samsung keeps their phones as easy to root and flash as the Vibrant has been I'll be more than happy to go back. Aside from having to do the hardware GPS fix I've had no complaints with the Vibrant... not to say I wouldn't enjoy the SIII though
As long as you didn't stay on stock (and why would you if you're lurking around these parts of XDA) the Vibrant has been a dream with how easy you can load up what you want. And for a device going on 2 years old it's very impressive how it's held up and is still able to rock ICS builds with minimul issues.
I'm going off the contract grid in a couple of months, and I'll be rolling the Vibrant until the wheels fall off. Next one will probably be the Galaxy Nexus since it probably the least hassle without a contract, but hopefully there's another price drop (come on $300...) before I have to put my good ol' Vibrant out to pasture.
Completly agree with everyone else. My vibrant has been the best phone I've had...true it had its moments, like anything, but it still outruns most new phones. I've had the vibrant for 2 years and it's never let me down (except in the gps department lol). It still runs like new....and actually with all the development it actually runs better NOW then every before lol I will be sad to let it go, but the sg3 will be the first phone that makes me want to move forward....but not because I feel the vibrant underachieves by any means. In fact, I'm donating my vibrant to a good friend of mine who is stuck with a ****ty htc device until he can upgrade. So it will get its use for another 2 years at least.
Since T-Mobile USA isn't LTE yet, I have a good feeling the S3 is going to be Quad-Core. If it isn't, I might get a Galaxy Nexus or wait till September to see what else comes out.
Most probably tmobile sg3 will have krait s4 chip coz specs are out for Canadian 42 mbps HSPA+ and it has s4 dual core chip. On the bright side it has 2 Gb ram

Not sure if 2 GB it's necessary. But i am pretty pissed with apps closing in the background while browsing in opera and services like my email and Swype closing due to lack of ram in vibrant. Also many games like shadowgun and MC3 just won't run, not because hummingbird soc can't handle, but not enough ram. I believe in long term usage more ram is better than quad core over dual core, when the socs are of the same generation.
