I've got a noob Q. How does one go about exporting contacts to their google account? When I select import/export in "people" I only get the option to export to sd card (which I use)or import from sim and sd card. I see my google addr as an option to import to but have never sync'd contacts to it. If someone could clarify this it might answer mine and others Q's!
the easiest way is to simply go into settings>accounts and sync>choose your gmail account>hit sync contacts.
how can i import my sim contacts to android?
Go to your contacts, hit the windows key (the hard key), hit import/export and select sim card. If you want, you can hit the windows key at the selection menue and choose to import all
done! thanks alot!

For future ones when you go to add a contact, it has a drop down that says contact type. Select Exchange.
For past ones in contacts select menu export to sdcard, select phone and it will say export /sdcard/pcsc_pcsc_000001.vcf. Then you can select import and select exchange and it will import your phone contacts into exchange.
Thanks, I have about 1,000 plus entries in my address book, how do I search what is only only on phone and not exchange, I mistakenly added some to phone and only find out when I search desktop and cant find a contact I knew I had, is there a simple way to search all phone so I can export as above?
thanks
Thanks, is there an easier way?
Whenever I got cards by mms, they by default get saved to phone, no option to save to exchange

For contacts already added without realising this problem how do i find which ones on the phone, any search tip short of looking at all entries?
Ive switched to a MyTouch 4G, much better phone, btu have the same problem, in fact worse, because now, when I save contacts from text messages received qas VCARDS, there is only an aoption to default save them as TMOBILE contacts, some 4 contacts got saved to my GOOGLE account, all this would be fine if I didnt have an exchange server, is there an easy way to search which contacts on phone are in which store and move them?
How do I change the default storage place?
not sure if you have this option in the mytouch, but just go to menu in the people app, then select view, then clear all checkmarks except phone then it will only show contacts listed in "phone"
Thanks, that's a step, I now need to figure how to copy the phones to exchange server and delete from Tmobile, phone, SIM & Google.
Do you know how to select a default store? Part of the problem might be Touchdown being inadequate on handling address book

To get them to exchange, just go to the people app, then menu import from sd card and make sure you tell it to put them into exchange. Then when you build a contact you will have the option to choose where to save it. Easiest way to delete from google is to go to gmail, contacts, then delete them from there.

My girlfriend has all her contacts saved to her sim card. Is there a way to transfer all them to her google account?

I searched the web and forums for this exact same issue for hours, couldn't find anything so I just copied them all manually.
Try this:
Save all your contacts to your SD card (if needed)
open your address book
Select menu >> more > Import/Export
Select export >> Export to SD card
When done repeat
Select menu >> more >> Import/ Export
Select Import >> Then select your gmail account (not phone)
See if that works.
Don't think so.
Edit: What he said above should work. I was looking at the option earlier but the SD card thing through me off.
Point to note here:
When I reflash a new rom I usually import from SD card to the phone. The reason is after you import the gmail account (stuff saved to the SD card) to phone you then have option to use ringtones per contact.
Long press contact >> edit >> you will then see a ring tone option.
I did the export and when I go to import it just give me the option to import from sd card or export from sd card

May want to try and export them all to SD card - then do it again and import from SD card to the gmail account.
You are basically exporting all contacts to a file. then importing those contacts back into the phone under the gmail account.
**Edit - cool you got it then
when u sync it automatically copies to your google account.

I ran into this problem with my wife's eris. There is an app that will export all of your contacts into vcard format, which you can then import into gmail. I'll take a peek and see if I can find the app again.
[Q] How do I Import a contact.vcf into "Phone Group" NOT "Google Group"?
Hi
I have a bunch of contacts on my Desktop. I exported them into a .vcf file & copied it to the /sdcard directory.
I can import the .vcf ono my Epic, but the contact ONLY go in to the "Google Contacts" group.
I can create contacts manually, and select to put them on my phone -- NOT in the Google Group. That's where I want them.
How do I IMPORT the whole .vcf into the Phone group, NOT the Google Group? I can't find it so far.
Dale
