For future ones when you go to add a contact, it has a drop down that says contact type. Select Exchange.
For past ones in contacts select menu export to sdcard, select phone and it will say export /sdcard/pcsc_pcsc_000001.vcf. Then you can select import and select exchange and it will import your phone contacts into exchange.

Thanks, I have about 1,000 plus entries in my address book, how do I search what is only only on phone and not exchange, I mistakenly added some to phone and only find out when I search desktop and cant find a contact I knew I had, is there a simple way to search all phone so I can export as above?
thanks

Thanks, is there an easier way?
Whenever I got cards by mms, they by default get saved to phone, no option to save to exchange

For contacts already added without realising this problem how do i find which ones on the phone, any search tip short of looking at all entries?

Ive switched to a MyTouch 4G, much better phone, btu have the same problem, in fact worse, because now, when I save contacts from text messages received qas VCARDS, there is only an aoption to default save them as TMOBILE contacts, some 4 contacts got saved to my GOOGLE account, all this would be fine if I didnt have an exchange server, is there an easy way to search which contacts on phone are in which store and move them?
How do I change the default storage place?

not sure if you have this option in the mytouch, but just go to menu in the people app, then select view, then clear all checkmarks except phone then it will only show contacts listed in "phone"

Thanks, that's a step, I now need to figure how to copy the phones to exchange server and delete from Tmobile, phone, SIM & Google.
Do you know how to select a default store? Part of the problem might be Touchdown being inadequate on handling address book

To get them to exchange, just go to the people app, then menu import from sd card and make sure you tell it to put them into exchange. Then when you build a contact you will have the option to choose where to save it. Easiest way to delete from google is to go to gmail, contacts, then delete them from there.

Best way to back up contacts and notes with Outlook on Xperia X10

I used to use My Phone Explorer with other Sony Ericsson handsets which worked very well with syncing contacts and notes with Microsoft Outlook 2007 but now with the Xperia X10 I'm a little stuck.
Any suggestions? also what does the HTC Desire and Legend use for this purpose? surely it would be the same.
Sorry if this is rushed but I’m in work at the moment, the way I did it was (this works for contracts, not sure about notes);
In Outlook go to File > Import and Export, in the new window select ‘Export to a File’, click next. Select ‘Comma Separated Values (Windows)’, click next, select ‘Contacts’ and click next, give it a name as save it on desktop, click next then finish.
In Gmail to your contacts and then click on import, select the file you saved from Outlook and import your contracts.
You ll need to have your phone synced with you Gmail account for this to work though.
Hope this helps, sorry if it’s a bit rushed.
What I did was use two nifty apps that I downloaded off the internet, both free.
Both sync them up from Outlook to your Google account which then syncs down to your phone.
One is for Contacts - "GO Contact Sync" which will Sync up your contacts (couldnt get pictures synced too )
Second is "Google Calendar Sync" which will obviously sync up your calendar.
Hope that helps

Sync contacts TO google

How in the hell do I get my phone contacts to sync to Google? I tried settings_accounts_Google sync but it only pulls my gmail contacts to my phone. I want to put my phone contacts to gmail. Backup assistant works fine, but some of the custom roms out don't use it. I can't find any info on this. HTC told me when I create contacts and choose Google instead of phone that they will sync. What about the 80 or so that backup assistant did upon activating my phone? And also, if I save future contacts as Google contacts and not phone contacts, does backup assist still back these up too?
In phone book hit menu and export contacts to sd card. This will give you a file that can be used to import your contacts on gmail.com
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
or just go to backup asst online.. vzw.com/backupassistant, and then export your contacts to a .csv file..which you can then import into google..doesnt take long.
In order to get the ones already saved in your phone to sync to google I think you're going to have to go with one of the options they said since I dont think there is a way to change them from phone contact to google contact.
However, when you add new contacts there is a drop down toward the top that you can change from phone to google so that after you save them it will sync automatically.
So if I import them to Google, it will sync. I get that. Now if I add new contacts as Google contacts does backup assist still back them up also?

[Q]Updating google contacts with my android contacts

i want to know how to make my gmail contacts same as my android , let me clarify it , when i save a new contact to my android i only see it on my phone but it not exist on my gmail contacts, i tried to export contacts from my phone but i only get ability to export to sd card not to gmail, is there any way that makes the update in the real time with no need to backup or export ? and if not so what is the best way to export contacts to gmail!
I always thought when you made a new contact it says "1: Save to Gmail 2: Save to SIM 3: Save to Phone" and if you select Save to Gmail it automatically links to your Gmail account?
I hope anyways, i've been doing that so when i try a new ROM wont need to re-enter all my contacts again lol

i've tested it now, saved a new contact to my android under certain category and then went to that category in my gmail it not there, its been 15 minute now .
is there any application in the market or a step by step turorial to do this

hi guys,
just simply create new contact in your Android cell phone /HD2 / or create a new contact online in your web browser and gmail account
go to Settings in your cell phone
then
Accounts and Sync /or something like that.. I have it in my own language/
and then you need to create or Add new account /gmail account/
you fill all the informations.. email, password and so...
after that you click on Synchronize and that's it
all your contacts from Android phone are in your gmail account and from your gmail account in your cell phone
it works great on my HTC HD2 with Android 2.2 Froyo
PS: works fine with gmail calendar too
I second what the above posted said. If its set to auto sync it will back them up when ever you add a new contact.
Ive been using it for a year now as I had a g1 before.

Transfer Contacts from other phone

is there a way to transfer all my contacts from my HTC diamond 2 to this new Samsung Vibrant?
i backup my D2 with PIMbackup
Not too familiar with windows mobile, but the Vibrant supports activesync accounts nicely, from what I understand. If not that, I'd be willing to bet that there's an application (on winmo) to sync your accounts from winmo to a google account from the diamond

Easiest way for me was to sync my iPhone with outlook then use outlook to export to a comma delimited CSV file, then import that file into google and it auto syned with my Vibrant. There are other ways, but this was the easiest for me. Hope it helps!

IMO this is a very good and easy way. No method nothing is perfect so once your contacts are transferred double check fields to make sure they correspond.

Well, obviously, if you want it synced with Google, you choose Google instead of phone....

I had a hell of a time setting individual ring tones until I had all my contacts on "phone".
Opened contacts app, Menu > more, Import/Export, exported all my Gaccount stuff. Then repeated and imported the file to phone.
Now when I edit the contacts I have a ringtone option.

Fastest way to import phone numbers?

Is there any way to import phone numbers quickly, such as a copy and paste from the computer if possible, from an older phone?
I have a bunch of numbers from my razr2 that I would like to stick onto the vibrant, and if there is an easier way I'd rather do that than mess with the razr2's messed up capacitive buttons.
Sim card?.....
Sync your number from razer to outlook or outlook express. Then import it to your gmail contact. You should create a new group in contacts to keep it organized. Once logged in on your phone it will sync all automatically.

woops, didn't realize it was that easy. i apologize for the silly question.
is it ideal to put numbers on a sim or straight into the phone? this is with a 2year contract from tmobile.
Phone is better because there are certain features that will only work with the number on the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
What features only work with the numbers on the phone? 2.2 made it so you could assign custom ringtones w.o saving the number to the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, I have sent contacts as vcard (via bluetooth) from SE phone to Samsung Vibrant, every number/e-mail/adress is in a right place.
Quick and safe
I can say it would be a good idea to have all your contacts backed up on gmail as well. I've had sim cards go bad, so if it does, you just lost your contacts. I'm not sure how the razor sync's contacts, but if you can sync with outlook, it's really easy to get them to gmail. You basically backup your contacts to a file, then go to gmail and import that file. Trust me, having them on gmail will make it easier on you. If you were to change any numbers, it will auto sync with gmail, and if you get a new phone, (android), all your numbers will sync automatically through gmail.
+1 its like magic

Very good explanation. Thanks.
+1 for Google Contact sync. It also allows you to export in csv format so you can easily sync those contacts with other applications as well. Not to mention a web interface for editing and grouping those contacts which then automagically syncs to your phone.
Also, saving contacts to the phone gives you a lot more storage than a SIM card. I believe a SIM can only hold up to 250 contacts.
