I am deciding to buy a phone: between hd2 and desire. I would prefer hd2 as it can have multi-os. I am a developer and it's a plus to have a phone support multi os so that i can develop and test on these os without having to buy multiple phones... i am planning to use android as my main os but i am wondering if it worth it..
I have been reading a lot of threads of android roms on hd2 and posting quite some questions lately about flash 10.1 support, battery etc..
the more i read about the android roms on hd2, i keep finding more and more issues(with some constantly repeating):
like robot voice where some people say it's fixed in one thread and in another more recent thread someone else says he still has the issue (and has to enable loudspeaker and turn it off or some say the phone freezes when they get robot voice and have to reboot); that's pretty annoying imo..
there's also low volume issue that i always see in every rom thread i read..
then there is vibration problem or phone not ringing, missed calls issues, battery drain issue, etc... (the list is quite big )
my question: do these issues exist in htc desire sock rom or desire's custom roms (i am a fan of customisation and will probably be flashing custom rom on desire if i buy a desire instead of an hd2)?
My primary concerns are
calls, sms (I will be using it for my work; so missing a call or having bad call quality or missing sms are not acceptable)
camera (should react quick a bug-free to take photos with default winmo quality)
music player (just need decent sound)
,
is there an android rom having all these 4 functionalities stable and bug-free (haven't found any yet.. been doing a lot of research and reading a lot of android rom thread)...
sorry for the long post and thx for reading it... waiting for your responses... depending on my needs. Hopefully, i will get the necessary advice to make my final decision. Thanking you in advance
You better post you question in the Desire HD thread.
Most of HD2 owner doesn't own a DHD.
If I where you... I will buy the DHD if you want only android (year... I know a lot will disagree with what I write...)
i'd pick hd2 especially if you're a developer. most of issues are eliminated by new builds and fixes. i have everything working on my hd2 and i can't complain on anything.
I'm not sure it's good to test apps on a phone which doesn't run a native os.
Maybe the emulator from an SDK will be a better "test platform".
But I'm not a dev so take my answer just "as it".

thx for ur replies.
@emjakmaciej :
you don't have any low volume call or robot voice issues? or no vibration/ringtone problem? what rom are u using?
yup i know hd2 is a developer's dream but i wanna be sure i can still be reliable as a phone! (make/receive calls properly, send sms with all notifications working well)
As far as I know, I have few issues with my build.
I can't say less than a real DHD as I don't own one.
Latest build (from some chef) are very good actually. And it improves days after days.
My wife as a stock HD2 and sometime it freeze also.

i ended up buying the htc desire lol.. mainly because HD2 seems too big imo although i must agree this is a damn good phone but finally i realised that i really want android and not much interested with windows mobile.. so i think a native android phone is better.. thx again for all your help and advices!
htc hd2 is much much better!
U can choose between three different softwares and many many custom-roms
One thing you need to realize it that most people only post in a rom thread because they are having problems. So really most of the feedback you will get in a rom thread is negative but this does not include all of the thousands of people who have no problems at all usually when people have problems it is because they did something wrong and isn't actually a Rom issue Android works %99 Perfect on HD2 you shoulda got one. You are missing out

Hi,

Yeah, my question (or my intention, rather) was on which are more stable
they are all different for different people. shubcraft 1.5 works for me. may not work for you.
yeah you have the ones with HTC sence, and ones with out,
im using Froyostone at the sec, working very well for me
Yup...I went for the first recommendation - without sense. Looks pretty good, but not for daily use yet
Thanks!
Try hyperdroid. I use it as my daily and have no problems.

Just go for the most recently dated build and work from there.
I can also suggest Bangsters 1.2a as it's Vanilla 2.2 and is pretty responsive and relatively bug free. But like said the easiest if no the most convenient way is to try them all, no build is perfect and each has it's own defects but from what I have seen it can range from user to user.

Yup I would agree here. Even tho my DarkStone build is not one of the newer builds, it runs great, for me at least. I've tried a number of the other builds, but haven't found a real reason for changing from what I've got going. Updating the kernel on a regular basis keeps this build going strong.
Another conditional might be which ones work with HTC Sync. This is an absolute requirement for me personally. I've only tested a few Android builds, but so far only MattC's build works with Sync for me.
Yes I'm a total noob when it comes to this.... And I really don't want to brick my phone, which is the most fully featered 2.2 Version without sense for the HD2. And can somebody please send my an idots guide. PLease PM me deatils. I mean I've done WinMo Phones but nothing like this. Thanks for the Help.

What exactly is it you knew?
I prefer either Nexus One Froyo build from mccm (v1.0 or v1.5) or the very first Mdeejay eVo Sense build (v1). I find the mccm build to be the smoothest with the stock launcher or the new G2 launcher. The Mdeejay v1 build is the best of them all...with occasional data freezes, though. Outstanding battery if the data and wireless is fully active in WinMo.
I like HyperDroid by Pongster. I'm not a build expert, but I have tried about 4 different builds before deciding to stay with the HyperDroid/Ultimate build.
Seriously, its the ONLY build I've seen that doenst have a premature flash issue, bt issues, data connection issue, touchscreen freeze issues, etc. Every build I have tried has atleast one of those issues.
I'm fairly new to this scene but I learn quick and I was looking for a build that doesnt have issues and was stable. HyperDroid/Ultimate was for me.
It's really a matter of personal preference. Some people can deal with a premature flash, or bt connection issue. At this point, no one build is perfect. I'm having a slight problem with audio through my headphones in HyperDroid/Ultimate, but its a problem I can deal with.
So evaluate what you can and cannot live with in any one build and then ask YOURSELF "What's the Best android rom for hd2".

well....
tried almost all of them but i must say from my experience either darkstone or mccm, with hastarin r7.2.they pretty good ,reliable and very fast
I shall enlighten all and put this misery to an end!
1) mccm SE 2.5
2) Watermelon
To me the best build so far is phireMOD SkinnyEVO v1.3 (10.7.10), and I'm using the Launcher Pro. It's really a very nice build, and the only thing that doesn't work correctly is the flash, is still premature. I am fan of Mjeeday and Darkstone builds, but after some time of use, or I've a bit of SOD, or when I answer a call, it takes long to listen the other side, etc. With PhireMOD with Launcher Pro, I'm really happy, and the battery drain is very low. And with that rom I don't need to use the setCPU and Juice Defender, because the battery is enough for one entire HARD day, where my data mobile is all the time on, and BT almost. And after 13 hours I still have around 20-25% of battery.
Another thing about this build, the benchmark is really nice, always higher than 1650. And it is a constant, not like the other builds, that you do it now and you got 1300 and after 1 min you got 1700. It is really stable.
Just check it.
Regards
Rui

Excellent question mate. But only you can find that out. Get starting and tell us about it.
Currently using MCCM SE v3.3 after I broke my ShubCraft build (lol whoops!).
My favourite build I've used so far was a tie between ShubCraft 2.0 dropmode and MDeeJays DesireHD. I can honestly say tho the ONLY detractor from the Desire HD build for me was the camera not working. If it had I'd still be using it today.
BlueTopia is my newest, lovin it. The animations kick ass, and mms works on T-Mo out of the box. Hyperdroid 1.7 is great too. I love havin a 16gb card, I switch between 5 or 6 builds on my card using the Exceller loader all the time
maybe a proper question will be 'which one is the most working one?'
in matter of phonecalls, 3g internet, calendars...mail, camera, playing music.
I understand that some users want the best speed and are not really into an accurate calendar or alarm.
can you please point out which of the builds have everything working fine on an average level
at least some of you should know from personal experience...
thanks
Currently I'm using MDJFroyo Sense Revolution with the latest kernel or at least the one release a few days ago. I was a DarkStone fan for the longest (the longest length of time with his build was 2 months) and wanted to try a stock build, but didn't like it cause of data isssues. So I bounced from buil to build until I saw m-deejay releasing builds every week or at least updates and thought I'd give it a try.
So far, I really like it. Love that he includes a cool theme with his builds. Aside from looks the build is very stable. With the most recent kernel, data disconnects happen less frequently, and mostly when I'm at work and can't get much of a signal anyway. Thankfully my job is upstairs from a nursing school that offers its students free wi-fi lol.
Other than that, he keeps his builds updated which is also cool. I want to try another HD build, so when I get home I'll change a few things and go from there.
As far as set up:
I'm running HSPL 2.08 or 2.08spl (i haven't updated it in awhile so I forget)
Radio 2.12
Omega XT with GTX 1.8.5 Sense Theme (awesome build)

1- This thread is from 2010, why resurrect it?
2- Your link is not working.
3- Now that most ROMs are fully functional, no need to recommend what you like or think is best. (Not that there ever was)
4- This is the HD2 section, not the S4 section. (And if by S4 you meant Sense 4, it's not even "fully" working).
You ARE late to the party. You even went to the wrong one, lol.

Please, don't bother arguing when you're wrong. This thread is irrelevant right now but you brought it up again with a broken link and no valid reason. He answered you because you BROUGHT THE DAMN THREAD UP AGAIN so of course he's going to see it on the front page of the forum and wonder why someone's reopened it. Yes, he's criticising you because of you reopening an old thread and now, since you've replied in this manner, I'm sure he has a problem with you (just as I do). He didn't earlier have any sort of personal problem, but you're just being rude. If you have the GS2 then post in the GS2 forum (or better yet, don't post anything to do with best ROM at all) but not here in the very clearly marked HD2 forum. If Marv ever does prepare a party I suspect you'd turn up three years late and uninvited

Its all a matter of opinion....hard to answer your question. The way i pick a rom to try out is...
Look for one that was recently updated
Read the first posts from the developer..your looking for changelogs, and whats working and not working.
Remember the date of the last update....go to the end of the thread and read all the way back to the date of the last update. This will let you see problems other users have found. Decide if these problems are related to the build or user error. Most will be user error. If you dont see a lot of complaints or problems with ...gps, data, wifi or phone turns into a blood sucking vampire then flash it and see for yourself. This is the ONLY way to find yhe best rom for you.
Believe it or not every hd2 is different. They all react differently to setups that are exactly the same. Its weird and hard to explain so just believe it.

I totally agree with the statement above, and while mdj's rom was "stable" for my particular hd2, so are many other roms, its all about your personal preference i would say get clockwork working and make a few nand backups of roms you like and switch off every few days until you find the one for you, but do as you want man, they are all pretty awesome with unique features, i think mdj's build is slightly outdated due to kernel and system breakthroughs as of late... just my personal opinion though, decide for yourself

Im curious as to the performance of NAND on the HTC HD2 . Can you play games such as the regular angry birds ? Does it have troubles with animations ? Im currently on a Sprint TP2 running Android (NAND) and i like it a lot . with the exception of the week processor compared to that of the HD2 . Also , im having troubles keeping WiFi on during phone sleep even with the Sleep policy set to "Never" under advanced WiFi settings . Does that setting work for you guys running NAND android on the HD2 ? I'm debating if i want to buy the HD2 and fully run android or if i want to just go ahead and buy a Samsung Galaxy S despite its a lot more than HD2 (on ebay) my most likely choice is buying a broke one and fixing it .
Thanks for your time guys !

Some roms are more stable than others. That's the case with every phone. I have been an android nand user for almost a year and its awesome. We also had one of the first ice ports and this phone is right at two years old! Overclocking is possible but I've never tried it. My phone is fast enough for me

If you use a rom such as Hyperdroid with the HD2, like said above, you will be blown away. The HD2 is fast, stable, and pretty much all working feature-wise.
The HD2 is a phone that I would still recommend to people, as it still keeps up with other competing phones.
Hope I could be of help.

Which ROM's would you recommend for Extreme speed and stability while still retaining the latest and greatest features of android , like Gingerbread and later ROMs.

Is this true !? wouldnt expect that !! plus i think 5MP camera is good enough lol . video is something a lot of people hardly use on their cell phones , no matter the quality , the only way to get a good video is by using optical zoom . and phones wont have that due to keeping it slim

Comparing quality of Galaxy with quality of Leo confrims that. Not to mention posibilty to install even xp on leo .
A recommended rom that is highly efficient in my opinion is Hyperdroid. I've been using this rom for over a year now and it has never failed me before. It is fast, stable, and efficient.
If your interested, I'll post a direct link to the rom here.
Once again, hope I could be of help.

Slapped ya some thanks
I also advise to use Hyperdroid ROM which is excellent in stability, speed and battery life. I use it since three monts and I am very satisfied with it. The only minus point by this rom is its font size selection and theme. But you change the dpi font size and have theme choser for that.

THANKS for your input im pretty convinced just by looking at the thread ! It looks wicked cant wait to get a job and buy my HD2 now xD i'll most likely flash a bunch of builds just to test drive them . but Hyperdroid will be my first to set a baseline for the rest . thanks again guys !
Look at this thread. It is useful to read before you look at the Rom threads.
