[Q] Good current android for beginner - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
I wanted to have a look at android, but there are so many out there. Which ones are most current and are most complete?
Cheers!

I'm using darkstone HD2 froyo v2.1...everything is working except the hotspots feature...they are all pretty stable...check out Gamesquare.co

You'll have to try them and eventually decide for yourself. That's far better than going by someone else's recommendation.

Thanks!
Yeah, my question (or my intention, rather) was on which are more stable

they are all different for different people. shubcraft 1.5 works for me. may not work for you.

yeah you have the ones with HTC sence, and ones with out,
im using Froyostone at the sec, working very well for me

Yup...I went for the first recommendation - without sense. Looks pretty good, but not for daily use yet
Thanks!

Try hyperdroid. I use it as my daily and have no problems.

Just go for the most recently dated build and work from there.

I can also suggest Bangsters 1.2a as it's Vanilla 2.2 and is pretty responsive and relatively bug free. But like said the easiest if no the most convenient way is to try them all, no build is perfect and each has it's own defects but from what I have seen it can range from user to user.

Yup I would agree here. Even tho my DarkStone build is not one of the newer builds, it runs great, for me at least. I've tried a number of the other builds, but haven't found a real reason for changing from what I've got going. Updating the kernel on a regular basis keeps this build going strong.

Another conditional might be which ones work with HTC Sync. This is an absolute requirement for me personally. I've only tested a few Android builds, but so far only MattC's build works with Sync for me.

Yes I'm a total noob when it comes to this.... And I really don't want to brick my phone, which is the most fully featered 2.2 Version without sense for the HD2. And can somebody please send my an idots guide. PLease PM me deatils. I mean I've done WinMo Phones but nothing like this. Thanks for the Help.

Htc hd2 vs samsung vibrant

So I've been using my hd2 for about 2 months now and I hate windows so I've been trying out all the android builds which I love. I'm currently using darkstone froyostone w/o sense and before this I was running his other build froyohd2..and since I'm running chuckydroidrom I don't even see windows anymore. But today I went into tmobile and I saw the vibrant and its absolutely beautiul.. very fast and android is native. So I need some input.. what do you guys think? Any pros and cons for both phones any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I have both and constantly find myself switching up.i like the vibrant for the screen clarity but the I like the hd2 for the screen size but I think once android is completely stable for the hd2 and is able to be flashed on nand it will be my daily phone and I'll probably wind up selling the vibrant.so I say keep the hd2 and wait just a little longer for a good android build

I had my HD2 for about two weeks. I tried a few android builds, and they mostly worked, but there were little quirks about them that bugged me. One didnt have bluetooth, one only seemed to work with a specific radio, etc...
I really liked the big screen of the HD2, and the metal back made it feel really sturdy, but I native android beat out that.
I like my vibrant. The back feels a little slick, but its also lighter. While the screen on the HD2 was bigger, I dont miss it much.
I'm sure as time goes on android for the HD2 will get better, so it's really a matter of if you want to wait or not.
Damn idk ill prolly just wait it out and see how far android could go on my hd2

Try the new FroyoStone Android build with Sense, it's amazing and the most stable build as of yet. I use it as my dailey OS and it works great =D
yeah im running froyostone with sense but using launcherpro with beautiful widgets.. its running great except for the fact that u cant touch on the screen freezes and i get ocassional dark blank screens
Wait it out with the HD2.
If you really want to abandon the HD2, rumors speculate an HTC Android phone equipped with a dual-core processor heading to T-Mobile in Q4. If anything, wait for that, rather than getting the Galaxy S [now].

I don't get those with my setup. I think launcherpro is what's causing the current issues in the Android builds.
hmm ill try running sense then and wait it out till q4 thx for the update

If you want more behind-the-scenes-type info (rumor or not) specifically for T-Mobile, check out TmoNews. The leaked roadmap for T-Mobile devices for the rest of the year is somewhere there.

It is a nice phone i just dont like samsung software...also the camera does not have flash...and as we all know the screen is bigger on the hd2...but the hummingbird processor that samsung has is quick then the hd2's snapdragon...it all depends on what you like. Also you have to give the devs a little more time with android on hd 2...they are almost there the hd2 will be worth it in the long run until somwthing much better will come out in a couple of months...

What exactly is it you knew?
I prefer either Nexus One Froyo build from mccm (v1.0 or v1.5) or the very first Mdeejay eVo Sense build (v1). I find the mccm build to be the smoothest with the stock launcher or the new G2 launcher. The Mdeejay v1 build is the best of them all...with occasional data freezes, though. Outstanding battery if the data and wireless is fully active in WinMo.
I like HyperDroid by Pongster. I'm not a build expert, but I have tried about 4 different builds before deciding to stay with the HyperDroid/Ultimate build.
Seriously, its the ONLY build I've seen that doenst have a premature flash issue, bt issues, data connection issue, touchscreen freeze issues, etc. Every build I have tried has atleast one of those issues.
I'm fairly new to this scene but I learn quick and I was looking for a build that doesnt have issues and was stable. HyperDroid/Ultimate was for me.
It's really a matter of personal preference. Some people can deal with a premature flash, or bt connection issue. At this point, no one build is perfect. I'm having a slight problem with audio through my headphones in HyperDroid/Ultimate, but its a problem I can deal with.
So evaluate what you can and cannot live with in any one build and then ask YOURSELF "What's the Best android rom for hd2".

I tried hyperdroid and some other build, I have bt issues. Only darkstone's froyostone doesn't give me bt issue although cam flash is premature.

well....
tried almost all of them but i must say from my experience either darkstone or mccm, with hastarin r7.2.they pretty good ,reliable and very fast
I shall enlighten all and put this misery to an end!
1) mccm SE 2.5
2) Watermelon
To me the best build so far is phireMOD SkinnyEVO v1.3 (10.7.10), and I'm using the Launcher Pro. It's really a very nice build, and the only thing that doesn't work correctly is the flash, is still premature. I am fan of Mjeeday and Darkstone builds, but after some time of use, or I've a bit of SOD, or when I answer a call, it takes long to listen the other side, etc. With PhireMOD with Launcher Pro, I'm really happy, and the battery drain is very low. And with that rom I don't need to use the setCPU and Juice Defender, because the battery is enough for one entire HARD day, where my data mobile is all the time on, and BT almost. And after 13 hours I still have around 20-25% of battery.
Another thing about this build, the benchmark is really nice, always higher than 1650. And it is a constant, not like the other builds, that you do it now and you got 1300 and after 1 min you got 1700. It is really stable.
Just check it.
Regards
Rui
Please state the wm Rom that you are using.... I think wm Rom play a big part on how good the Android Rom is... mostly is abt the compatibility....

Whats the most stable rom?

As of today? I am looking to install a 2.2 rom for a co worker. Since i will not be around to trouble shoot after installation I need something very very stable and w/ everything working. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
p.s. I know there is an identical thread but no one has posted there in over 2 months and at the speed of these new releases that post is like ancient now.

anyway, hyperdroid v1.6 (non-sense build) works really good for daily use. For a sense build, i can't answer, cause i just don't use it (it's frugly)
Round 10000th.
All builds are stable.
By now, who make the builds stable are the Kernels.
So the builds, who have the last updates in kernel sutff, are the most completely.
The build I most like are the HD and Z, but they don't have the camera working, so for now, I chose another one with it and the last kernel who fix the premature flash.
Choise by your taste.
U should have posted it and get flamed in Android General section...

The most stable is the 1.D.10.T 10-16-10...
Kidding aside, it's a little tough to call, different folks -- different strokes i guess, after trying differnet combos, radio's etc....
for me the best has been the mDeeJay's Froyo sense.... (specially with hastarian kernals)
i like v2.5... over 1.1 clean....
I was gonna post the link, damn i'm not allowed to!
ey the most stable for me is
android ..Mdeejay_FroYo_HD_v._3.6
wm... Dexter-TheDarkOne,Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
camera dont work
Difficult to answer and a bit dangerous also The latest ones would be amoug the most stable although not always necessarily so.
i think anyone who posts these types of questions, especially in DEVELOPMENT!!!

It's called Windows Mobile 6.5.
The HD2 comes with an OS that is exactly what your colleague needs. Why would you even consider sticking them on Android if they cannot fix any issues that crop up?
I'm a big fan of Android and would recommend it to anybody, as long as they can deal with any issues that ensue. If they can't, I'd recommend they stick with Windows.
In before the move perhaps..this should be posted in he HD2 Android General section with the other 100 "whats the best?"

[Q] htc hd2 android vs htc desire

I am deciding to buy a phone: between hd2 and desire. I would prefer hd2 as it can have multi-os. I am a developer and it's a plus to have a phone support multi os so that i can develop and test on these os without having to buy multiple phones... i am planning to use android as my main os but i am wondering if it worth it..
I have been reading a lot of threads of android roms on hd2 and posting quite some questions lately about flash 10.1 support, battery etc..
the more i read about the android roms on hd2, i keep finding more and more issues(with some constantly repeating):
like robot voice where some people say it's fixed in one thread and in another more recent thread someone else says he still has the issue (and has to enable loudspeaker and turn it off or some say the phone freezes when they get robot voice and have to reboot); that's pretty annoying imo..
there's also low volume issue that i always see in every rom thread i read..
then there is vibration problem or phone not ringing, missed calls issues, battery drain issue, etc... (the list is quite big )
my question: do these issues exist in htc desire sock rom or desire's custom roms (i am a fan of customisation and will probably be flashing custom rom on desire if i buy a desire instead of an hd2)?
My primary concerns are
calls, sms (I will be using it for my work; so missing a call or having bad call quality or missing sms are not acceptable)
camera (should react quick a bug-free to take photos with default winmo quality)
music player (just need decent sound)
,
is there an android rom having all these 4 functionalities stable and bug-free (haven't found any yet.. been doing a lot of research and reading a lot of android rom thread)...
sorry for the long post and thx for reading it... waiting for your responses... depending on my needs. Hopefully, i will get the necessary advice to make my final decision. Thanking you in advance
You better post you question in the Desire HD thread.
Most of HD2 owner doesn't own a DHD.
If I where you... I will buy the DHD if you want only android (year... I know a lot will disagree with what I write...)
i'd pick hd2 especially if you're a developer. most of issues are eliminated by new builds and fixes. i have everything working on my hd2 and i can't complain on anything.
I'm not sure it's good to test apps on a phone which doesn't run a native os.
Maybe the emulator from an SDK will be a better "test platform".
But I'm not a dev so take my answer just "as it".

@emjakmaciej :
you don't have any low volume call or robot voice issues? or no vibration/ringtone problem? what rom are u using?
yup i know hd2 is a developer's dream but i wanna be sure i can still be reliable as a phone! (make/receive calls properly, send sms with all notifications working well)
As far as I know, I have few issues with my build.
I can't say less than a real DHD as I don't own one.
Latest build (from some chef) are very good actually. And it improves days after days.
My wife as a stock HD2 and sometime it freeze also.

htc hd2 is much much better!
U can choose between three different softwares and many many custom-roms
One thing you need to realize it that most people only post in a rom thread because they are having problems. So really most of the feedback you will get in a rom thread is negative but this does not include all of the thousands of people who have no problems at all usually when people have problems it is because they did something wrong and isn't actually a Rom issue Android works %99 Perfect on HD2 you shoulda got one. This is kinda like asking what do you prefer crunchy or creamy peanut butter...your bound to get many different responces. lol.
Check out this site. It lists almost all the nand android ROMs found here on XDA in a place thats much easier to find it.
AmeriCanAndroid is a great ROM and its updated often so thats always a good starting point. if your one that prefers HTC sense then maybe try out RAFDROID HD. i've personally found this ROM very fast and stable. If you like more of a iphone type feel then try a miui ROM out. i would suggest LADY MIUI or D4RK MIUI.
There really is no one best ROM, i think anyway. This is because everyone has their phone set up slightly different and also want different things on their cell. just try out a few ROMs intill you find something you want to stick with for a little bit of time and see how it goes. It took me several months to settle on a ROM because i always wanted to flash every new ROM that came out. lol.
I tried Miui, Sense and cynogen based roms; Miui has the best home applications like the camera app, phone app, etc. The fastest (real difference), with lots of tweaks and the best baterry for me is Dorimanx High end rom, although some of his builds are not stable because he is always updating his rom. Im using dorimanx rom right now, although im waiting to see if Hyperdroid is updated wich is another excellent rom.
Hello,
I tried BoyPPC ROMs and it's quite fast, stable and regularly updated so it seems well followed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199917
But I agree with previous comments that it depends on your configuration and your needs. each one has pros and cons and you should just test the one that best fits to your needs.
Since Feb I'm using AmeriCanAndroid (well, cope's sd rom at that time, before he and warrenb started together AmeriCanAndroid). Haven't changed to anything else since then. Have switched to the nand version since 2-3 weeks and I'm happy with it.

I tested many Roms.
Because I like that HTC stuff, I searched a long time for a stable Sense 3 ROM.

Just be careful, flashing too many rom and too often may lead to bad blocks on your phone. Have fun and good luck.
