Hiya,
My friends G1 is currently experiencing a strange issue.
Everything used to work fine, he rooted and flashed to cyanogenmod 6 without a hiccup, but since then the lcd backlight is not working.
I reflashed it back to stock and the issue still remains.
We have replaced the lcd and the lcd ribbon but still no backlight, has anyone else had this, and has a fix, or can recommend anything else to try?
TIA
Motodroid 1 doing the same thing

Hi Everyone,
Ive recently purchased a prophet that had a broken lcd screen. I took apart my O2 XDA Mini and switched the screen around with the prophet, as they both use the same screen from what I am aware.
The prophet booted all okay but the screen quality/ resolution is not showing up correctly.... the thing is ive tested all the functions in the device and everything is working as it should be. Hard reseted the prophet took it apart to ensure that the screen to the mainboard was secured and all is fine.
Does anyone have any ideas i could try or know of the problem? will a rom upgrade help?
Thanks!
Okay so just skimming through the forums on cracked screens, it appears that it may be a problem with the ribbon.
I've read something about gold and silver/black ribbons, the two types appear to be the same physically but different in type.
If someone could enlighten me in this i would greatly appreciate it.
Okay just thought i'd update that i replaced the lcd screen with a second gen lcd and that did the job....
Although everything works and seems fine... the screen does appear slightly off colour nothing major but it is more noticeable when in camera mode.
Does anyone or has anyone experienced anything similiar... input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Hi guys, my T-MOUS HD2 just failed on me today.
I installed a NAND android update this morning and it was all good for a while, I left it on the couch for 20 min and after I came back, the display didn't work. Everything else is functioning normally: LCD's backlight, buttons, touchscreen. The phone was able to boot into android and function as normal but it's just that the LCD will not display anything (just black).
I have installed the stock rom by going into HSPL blind, but that didn't change anything, still no LCD.
My question is: has anyone else encountered this before? Could it be an LCD problem or a display chip problem? Should i invest and buy a replacement LCD screen?
thanks guys.
Hmm iunno if the problem of auto brightness persists in NAND builds too, but anyways, try putting your hd2 screen near a very bright light and try to turn the screen on, if that works yay, its not bricked, and i suggest you turn off auto brightness in settings after. If that doesn't work then damn....
Hi All,
I recently noticed that my auto-brightness wasn't working any longer.
I installed GPS Status&Toolbox and it indicated that my light sensor was reading 0 lux.
Assuming that it was a ROM bug I flashed CM10.1 . Sadly this has not solved my problem. I still get a reading of zero lux . My Nexus only has a screen protector on and I can see nothing blocking the sensor.
I can't imagine it is a very complicated component and in it's isolated position i find it hard to believe that it was damaged.
Has anyone else experienced any problems and do you have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance
A kernel is what bridges hardware and software. Try flashing a different one.
Hi,
I own an Oneplus 2 for over a year now, in which I had to replace it's display two times . The first time I ordered a new display+digitizer assembly and replaced it myself, went great and everything worked fine. The second time was a month ago, I ordered the exact same display from the exact same seller on Ebay and did the replacement. I tested the display before assembling the Phone and it worked as it should. But an hour later when the phone was already assembled I discovered that the touch screen was completely unresponsive
After some trial and error I came to this conclusion:
the problem seems to be caused by applying a mild pressure anywhere on the bottom right quarter of the screen
the display does always respond when I hold my finger on it (with or without applying pressure) for about 4 seconds, then it sees my finger and I can swipe around (while still holding it down)
if I try the method above a few times, or let the phone rest on a desk for some time, the problem disappears and the touch screen works fine again.
So far, it looks like a hardware-issue, maybe a faulty screen or I messed something up while replacing it. But it gets weirder:
My OP2 is rooted and at the moment of replacement, it was running Lineage OS 14.1 (nightly, 2017-03-30). And when I wanted to update that to it's newest build, I realized that this whole touch screen problem doesn't exist in the TWRP recovery interface. It worked perfectly fine even when I tried to recreate the problem by applying firm pressures on every spot on the screen. So this made it look more like a software-issue, however the update of Lineage didn't resolve it and even restoring my backup of OxygenOS 3.5.6 didn't help.
I found this XDA-post about having firmware issues for the touchscreen with Android 7, but running their fix did not resolve anything either.
Right now my phone is pretty unusable since having it in my pocket is creating the problem. :crying:
Does anyone have any ideas of what the exact problem could be? Or anyone having similar issues? Why is it that there is no problem at all when booting into recovery (TWRP)?
It looks like loose connections between the display and digitizer.
After all it was a hardware issue. I disambled the phone again and after a lot of trial and error I found that there was something that came in contact with the back of the lcd that must have created a short cicuit or something. I placed a thin sheet of paper on the back of the lcd to prevent this and it all worked again! Still weird though that it didn't happen in TWRP.
After replacing a broken screen I installed a new one but it just only turns the back light on and the phone turns off automatically. If I install the original one back it works perfect. Ive just ordered another one from another seller with no difference, exactly experiencing the same issue. The seller does not specify anything related to compatibility so just asking if somebody could help with it?
Thanks!
