Light Sensor Not Working - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I recently noticed that my auto-brightness wasn't working any longer.
I installed GPS Status&Toolbox and it indicated that my light sensor was reading 0 lux.
Assuming that it was a ROM bug I flashed CM10.1 . Sadly this has not solved my problem. I still get a reading of zero lux . My Nexus only has a screen protector on and I can see nothing blocking the sensor.
I can't imagine it is a very complicated component and in it's isolated position i find it hard to believe that it was damaged.
Has anyone else experienced any problems and do you have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance

A kernel is what bridges hardware and software. Try flashing a different one.

Proximity sensor NOT working - isolated or generalized problem?

Hi all !
My proximity sensor stopped working after 1 month with no apparent reason . I did search the forum for the people with a similar problem and I found that there are so many and no real solution .
Could this be a hardware fault? What should we do next?
My ROM is 1.43 WWE , no screen protector installed , in the registry the lightsensor is ON .
Thank you in advance !
Well, today I tested it with hair and it didn't work at all.
So can this be the case with your HD2 ?
No, its not that either ... Now it acts strange , sometimes I push the red button for ending a call but no effect while all the others buttons are working well and I have a huge battery drain
I've done various postings on the subject.
The latest is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605956
bump................
My sensor was a bit weird (didn't work occasionally or did the Christmas lights jingle) with the 1.43 ROM but now with 1.48 I have no problems with it whatsoever.
I think that I`m gonna reflash ... Thank you guys !

No screen backlight

Hiya,
My friends G1 is currently experiencing a strange issue.
Everything used to work fine, he rooted and flashed to cyanogenmod 6 without a hiccup, but since then the lcd backlight is not working.
I reflashed it back to stock and the issue still remains.
We have replaced the lcd and the lcd ribbon but still no backlight, has anyone else had this, and has a fix, or can recommend anything else to try?
TIA

[Q] [help] widespread g sensor problem

many of us having the same problem. i was using android nand rom for last two monts, everything was perfect. I did a screen replacement last week, and after that 'g sensor' is not working with android. not pnly g sensor, also proximity sensor and magneto sensor. but the thing is, every sensor is working with winmo 6.5, even with wp7.
i have tried several build, changed hspl...nothing worked. many of us are having the same problem.
all you brilliant people, someone help us man.
This seems to be a general problem After a screen replacement the G-Sensor in Android stops working.
Can anyone can tell us how we can fix this, i.e. what info can we supply to the ROM chefs and kernel gods to help them get to the bottom of this?

Dropped N7, screen no longer rotates

Hi all
I accidentally dropped my Nexus 7 (32GB, WiFi) and the screen not longer rotates. All the autorotate settings are correct. I checked GPS Status and all the readings are out. I also got SensorTester and the orientation sensors are definitely out of whack. So, I'm guessing the sensors got disrupted in the fall. I tried recalibrating using both apps with no luck.
I've seen threads about doing a hard reset, but I'm not sure how that would work, particularly since I suspect it's a hardware problem. Unless the sensors are somehow software dependent? Is there something I can do to fix this, or would I have to send it in for repairs?
I'm running stock 4.2.2
Thanks!

You broke the sensor but just be glad that's all you broke. You could have easily broken the screen.
I've looked but can't seem to find a replacement for the sensor. But you'd probably need to be very handy with tiny soldering jobs to fix it even if you could find the part.
Are you known with rooting etc?
If so there are some ways to flash the stock ROM
I would not say its broken immediately, because when I dropped my iPod touch the iOS just went crazy and didn't boot anymore, but all was fixed after a reset...

I know! I hadn't realised the N7s were so prone to screen shattering and dislodged digitisers before I started looking for solutions to my problem. I'll be a lot more careful from now on lol. Fortunately everything else is working, although the GPS stopped working for a while.

I've been toying around with the idea of rooting it for a while now. Haven't really had any need/want to. Until now. I'll give it a try when I have the chance.
Thanks for the advice

i9505G Photosphere bug

Hi,
I flashed my i9505 with a 4.3 GPE ROM and have no issues, save one.
When using Photosphere in the Camera App I can't get a proper picture done because the "frame" (white rectangle) drifts slowly to the right.
Everything elese works, I have been unable to find any definite fault with the sensors (although it's hard to be sure...) and already sent my phone back for replacement once. the new one has the same issue, only it's drifting to the right instead of the left this time.
I really hope somebody here can help me fix this since I love the Photoshpere function (used it a lot on my Galaxy Nexus) and really don't want to send the second phone back and hope the third one is going to be OK...
CPU-Z gives me slightly strange values for linear acceleration and 4-Axis Accelerometer, but I had that on the first S4 as well, so not sure it's a phone issue.
My Linear Acceleration Sensor tends to show -0.9ms² when the phone is lying flat on the table, my first one showed a steady -0.6m/s² in the same situation. Not sure if this has anything at all to do with the problem though.
I'd be extremely grateful if somebody could help me out here!
Thanks.
EDIT: Just found this thread at rootzwiki http://rootzwiki.com/topic/36213-42-tips-on-photosphere/ where there is a video that describes the problem quite well.
Does nobody else have this issue?
