PRL Update - EVO Shift 4G General

FYI Just had my PRL update upon reboot. It is now 60675.

Got it too

Do we need to worry about these kind of updates unrooting us? What does a PRL update do?

PRL stands for "Preferred Roaming List". It's just a list of the roaming providers Sprint works with. If your phone loses it's Sprint cell signal for some reason, it checks the PRL for another provider to roam on. There's no way that I'm aware of for a PRL update to interfere with root.

Thanks for the heads-up. Worked for me too!
Got it, thanks!
...
... umm ... I don't think a PRL update is always a good thing. You have just as much chance of LOSING towers as gaining them.
any problems? is it better?
Is it not possible to update PRL on custom roms? I have the Redemption ROM 2.0.4, I haven't been able to update my PRL on this ROM. Not sure if I can or not on the others.
It says "We are unable to program your phone, please call 1-800-922...."

I've had the prl for over 2 weeks??
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea I made a thread for this over a week ago..
Has anybody been able to extract the new prl? I am former Alltel, and if I *228 I get a 4xxxx series PRL, which gets me pretty much crap reception.
rant:
On a side note, I love how former Alltel customers get the shaft. They told me in the store that if I changed over my pricing plan to a Verizon plan that I would never have to worry about the Alltel PRL's, but why would I do that - so I could give them an extra $150 every month? Verizon pricing plans suck
end rant

PRL xxx80 News Flash

Action Required: PRL Update Required for Select IL, KY, TN and WI Counties
Sprint released National Preferred Roaming Lists (PRLs) ending xxx80 to servers on 7/13/11.
PRLs will provide continued roaming and Strategic Roaming Alliance (SRA) 3G/Mobile Broadband service for several counties in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Wisconsin, when roaming partners make network channel changes on 7/22/11.
Customers must update their PRL or they will drop to 1xRTT roaming.
Sprint will proactively push the National PRLs to subscribers with push capable handsets/PDAs.
Customers with Mobile Broadband devices will need to update the PRL via Smartview to receive the release.
Refer to the Preferred Roaming List (PRL) NewsFlash for impacted counties and FAQs (ISC > Sales Resources > Coverage > CDMA Domestic and International Roaming).

and for those that didn't know...you can find the full analysis of the PRLs at www.batonrougebroadband.info
WDM, do you know how often they try and push this? I think I've seen mine try to pick it up twice while at work but I'm always on roaming there because I can barely get Sprint signal inside my office. I'm still on 60676 and everytime I try to update manually I either get the usual 'internal error'/'unknown error' response or if I try it often enough, I get 'No PRL update available'. Do they ever push it overnight?
Im still on 60679 wondering if mine should update or not if I try and make it update it fails not sure why I have tried one method I have found on here to fix it but it did not work. Will they push it to me or is that disabled when running a custom ROM? I am running SFR 1.2. If anyone knows how to fix it let me know unless 60679 is what I am suppose to be on in Iowa.

Ahh you are like the many Samsung Android users, stuck. The next MR will fix that issue, or you can go ahead and flash EF02

I am still on 60670 and my phone won't update. When I try, it says that no update is available.
I'm hoping something changes soon. I'm tired of roaming while at work

You need to take your phone into a sprint store so they can manually load a newer prl, on your phone.

PRL 60686 is out

Update, March 21, PRL 60686 is out
Just noticed my phone updated itself to PRL 60685.....
My phone is now much smoother, battery life is way better, and I get 7 bars service.

In suburban Houston, I'm not noticing any difference. Remember, updating your PRL only helps with roaming (Preferred Roaming List). Any differences you're seeing are probably a placebo effect. Unless you are roaming...
Off topic, I know they're turning on enhanced 3g in Atlanta, anyone know when/if Houston will? I know we're on the short list for LTE along with Atlanta, so my assumption is that we would also be for enhanced 3g.

Exactly this. If you roam a lot or have no signal a lot, and IF there was an updated tower from another carrier added to your roam list (PRL) you may roam and get signal. Otherwise it matters not. Digiblur usually has the list of additions to the list in his sig.

Could this have to do with Sprint activating the old iden nextel towers? Trying not to believe in the sugar pill effects too quickly but damn! At the house never peeked over 300k and the last three test have been 800k steady... hope it sticks anyway.

No because those towers would be considered Spint network towers and not Roaming towers. If they contracted to share more (or less) towers for roaming they change the list (PRL).

Prl: prefered roaming list.
Doesn't normally have an affect less you got a new tower installed it doesn't increase data.

they must have improved a tower, or switched over an iden nextel tower to 3g cause I'm cooking now...just a coincidence about the prl. Pushing 800k to 1 meg all day now, could barely break 200k before. Now I don't have to rely on my wifi to browse! Anyway thanks all for the clarification.

Not exactly accurate. Whenever they make any changes regarding towers is when they release prl updates. They are not building new towers 6x a year. This prl update has a significant impact on the 1x issue I don't see it anymore
I must agree with some of the others. I too am experiencing faster data with this prl update. Before the update I had .5 meg. Now I get between 1.3 and 1.5 meg. I'm very pleased with this update. My location is in central Alabama.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
It isn't a list of towers
I am on cm7 with 11115, best prl for roaming btw, and can't pull the prl since I am travelling and need my phone. As soon as someone posts it I will do the diff.
I suspect the only real changes is the removal of Pioneer in OK from the native signal list.

Switch PRL to always roam?

Can we change our PRL on the ls980 so that I can roam on verizon where I don't get sprint coverage?
Any guides on how to do it? And links to download compatible PRLs?
