Can we change our PRL on the ls980 so that I can roam on verizon where I don't get sprint coverage?
Any guides on how to do it? And links to download compatible PRLs?

Do we need to worry about these kind of updates unrooting us? What does a PRL update do?
PRL stands for "Preferred Roaming List". It's just a list of the roaming providers Sprint works with. If your phone loses it's Sprint cell signal for some reason, it checks the PRL for another provider to roam on. There's no way that I'm aware of for a PRL update to interfere with root.
I live in a area where sprint is not so good but Verizon is blazing fast.anyway I can use Verizon towers or maybe get there modem so I can be fast also.worth a shot to ask

If you're on the Sprint network, you can only use the Sprint towers. Modem changes won't change that. Modems will control how your device interacts with whatever network it connects to. You can try different Sprint modems to see if that helps, but unless you change carrier, you're stuck with Sprint.
Thanx for the reply any suggestions on where I could find different sprint modems

If I get an AT&T compatable StraightTalk SIM does it also pull from T-Mobile's towers for voice (but not 3g ofc)?
In other words, is the difference between the two SIMs (ATT/TMO) only for HSPA coverage, or HSPA and GSM?
Planning on getting my mom an Infuse 4G but I want to make sure that she'll be getting as best voice coverage as possible.
If you get her a Infuse, just get the at&t sim card from straight talk and everything will function just as if it were running on at&t

If you use a T-Mobile SIM you get T-Mobile coverage. If you use an AT&T SIM you get AT&T coverage. It's as simple as that.

Unless the phone supports both bands then you can use either sim card

Yes but you won't be able to use the AT&T towers if you use T-Mobile from the way I understand it.

This is the conclusion I've reached after much research.

Damnit.
Well ATT coverage is great in our home area so I'll just stick to that. Thanks guys.
I was hoping that if an ATT sim was used and no ATT voice coverage was available it would try to roam to a TMO straighttalk service.
Get two SIMs and use Google Voice.

Hey all,ā
I have searched similar threads, wiki's, sites, etc. As far as I understand, my Big Red G2 should work on AT&T on 3G. There is conflicting information regarding 4G and LTE availability. Can I get 4G or LTE to work without rooting? And if I do activate on AT&T, does this mean no more OTA updates?
Sorry for the n00b questions.
Thanks all.

Well yes it should work on att but I am not sure about lte as for ota's I not think you will be a ble to do them because the phone needs to connect to the Verizon network/servers to check if there are updates available
