I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

Thankyou! Found it in the reference Bible. That is a very nice sticky and should keep me busy.

I had a stock 2.1 Epic rooted with Z4. Manually upgraded to 2.21 effortlessly, all works well.
Tried rerooting with Z4 multiple times and it would not work. I removed Z4 from my Epic.
How can I reroot? The good news it Titanium is still freezing the apps I previously had frozen. However, I have no way to add freeze or unfreeze.
Thanks,
Todd
If z4root don't work just use the one click root with clock work. Its easy and straight forward

Thanks I found the problem I had the old Odin version and then I used the update that had root and recovery built it worked fine after that. I was wondering if you knew of anywhere I could find a kernal that allows overclocking and or has a 600 mhz step in it?
If your going to flash a froyo rom, there are no kernels yet. If your going to start on a 2.1 rom then thee are a few god ones around like the phoenix kernel, the extreme kernel and numerous others that allow over clocking and under clocking. Check the epic development threads for the 2.1 roms and they have the links to kernels there.

Same here, Id rather have an instructional video instead. Because this one click root is not working. I'm wasting too much time already trying to root.
OneClickRoot with Superuser for EPIC w/Froyo
I have a link for a oneclickroot for the epic running froyo without getting a cannot or willnot or failed because of Read Only. Unfortunately because I am a newbie it says I have to post 8 posts before posting an outside link. I uploaded it to my personal website which I use to advertise dogs that I sell. If you want PM me and I will give you the link to grab it off of my site.

Has anyone tried to root using the z4 root app? Will it work?

Yea, I used a method listed here @ XDA to get S-Off and rooted when I had the Nov. Update before unrevoke's revisions. It used zroot to enable the process.

My friend (idiot couldnt wait for me to do it correctly) rooted his Droid X using Z4. Shortly after he discovered his Droid X wouldn't boot. Soft bricked Droid. Said friend orders another Droid X (warrenty) and still couldn't wait (till AFTER SCHOOL A MATTER OF HOURS!) to root and Z4'ed again. Another soft brick. He's on his 3rd Droid X, unrooted. I've refused to do so for him.
z4root by itself will not permanently root an incredible, it will give you temporary root till the next time you reboot. this information is available in the z4root thread. you might want to try posting this in the droid x forum if you want to know about z4root and a droid x .
Its the Inc that I'm concerned with, my wife's phone to be exact. I have the fascinate & I've rooted, de-binged & de- bloated and want to root her phone for wifi tethering. I used a 1-click root app on my Eris that worked well & was just wondering if something similar would work on this one.

The best way to get root on the Inc is to use Unrevoked 3.22. There is no one-click method like the Eris to gain permanent root. You will need to get adb (android-sdk) setup on your pc as well as get the correct usb drivers setup for this to work. The instructions are on Unrevoked's website.
While z4root is technically a one-click method it will only give you a temporary root that is lost every time the phone reboots and you have to re-root it. It can be useful if all you want to do is remove some of the crapware and thats it. I did use it to do just that with Titanium Backup Pro but had to re-root my phone about 16 times, re-install busy box each time and it became rather tedious and took a couple hours. Also I wouldn't recommend using it if your going to install a custom ROM or want to do other modding to the phone.
Edit: z4root does not put a custom recovery on the phone and you wouldn't be able to use it anyways if you did as root would be lost as soon as you tried to reboot into recovery. So you couldn't even install a custom ROM with it if you wanted to.
Revoked works. Instructions here. http://jonsuh.com/2010/11/root-your-droid-incredible-how-to/ if using windows, have fun downloading ext2 drivers, if using Linux/MAC, its very easy

I have an SCLD and it worked for me. But I do believe it actually failed the first time I tried it but after a reboot it worked. I think on the z4root thread it mentions rebooting first before using it.
Okay thanks for the info. My wife's is a slcd I believe so I think I'm going to try it.

Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'm unable to root as well. Been trying the alternate methods without success. Can't even get ADB to work.
verizon fascinate DL09 *UNROOTED AND CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ROOT*
I used this method a few minutes ago and it seemed to work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
EDIT: Scratch that, I tried installing a rom and it failed.
z4root does NOT work with DL09 nor does any one click that i know of... you must use the d2 method found here. I just rooted using this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779238

It seems to vary from person to person.
Some people have had success with z4, some have had success with 1-click...
i'm seeing that as well. thanks for the update!! i think a lot of people are going to have issues with this... if they just learned ADB they wouldnt have this problem!!

I used ADB to root my phone and install clockwork recovery not a single issue

it uses a diff directory structure, inststead of android-sdk\tools
its in android-sdk-platform\tool\platform
or something like that
but i cant get the root to take using any method yet
I was able to successfully root my device using the files from here, its a 1 click method too.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html
If you can get into recovery, and mount system as r/w, you can root it...
Push the files necessary for root such as busybox, superuser, etc
Now how you do that?
I'm not sure.
I used the superoneclick root. Windows XP with 32bit Drivers and FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE POST.
This method worked for me
verizon fascinate DL09 *UNROOTED AND CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ROOT*
Possible reason for failure
I had similar issues when I tried to manually root my fascinate after the dl09 update, and was using the most current samsung usb drivers...i think 1.3.550.
I removed the drivers and used the older 1.3.450 and was successfully able to root.
To do without a one click app please give directions because I don't know how to root using other methods

Hello everyone.
I am pretty sure I am the 100th one to ask this, but after seeking on the forum for a long time and tried everything I swear, I wasn't able to root my Galaxy S GT-I9000.
As I said it is a GT-I9000 (I9000BUJP5?) with firmware 2.2, Compilation FROYO.BUJP2
My intention is to patch the phone and quit that lag issue to gain a little speed, so it needs to be rooted first.
Everytime I tried to do whatever is shown in this forum or in any simmilar or internet tutorial I get the 'E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted.'
Somebody to show me the way?
Have you tried z4root?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I find z4root easier to use but it doesn't with all firmwares. Try superoneclick.
Z4root did it. Thank you very much fine gentlemen. It seems they do have updated the Z4root and works perfectly on my version.
Again thanks.
My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging

You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guide-root-odin-clean-metamorph-swype-tricks-ninja-apps-everything/
or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly
