Just updated to dl09 - Fascinate General

So is there a one click root app that works to root because z4root doesn't work after update
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

I'm unable to root as well. Been trying the alternate methods without success. Can't even get ADB to work.
verizon fascinate DL09 *UNROOTED AND CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ROOT*

I used this method a few minutes ago and it seemed to work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
EDIT: Scratch that, I tried installing a rom and it failed.

z4root does NOT work with DL09 nor does any one click that i know of... you must use the d2 method found here. I just rooted using this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779238

It seems to vary from person to person.
Some people have had success with z4, some have had success with 1-click...

i'm seeing that as well. thanks for the update!! i think a lot of people are going to have issues with this... if they just learned ADB they wouldnt have this problem!!
community is spoiling noobs with 1 clicks...

I used ADB to root my phone and install clockwork recovery not a single issue

True but unfortunately ADB does not work on my x64 Win7 machine.

that seems like a personal problem because it works for me on x64 W7

it uses a diff directory structure, inststead of android-sdk\tools
its in android-sdk-platform\tool\platform
or something like that
but i cant get the root to take using any method yet

I was able to successfully root my device using the files from here, its a 1 click method too.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html

If you can get into recovery, and mount system as r/w, you can root it...
Push the files necessary for root such as busybox, superuser, etc
Now how you do that?
I'm not sure.

I used the superoneclick root. Windows XP with 32bit Drivers and FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE POST.

This method worked for me
verizon fascinate DL09 *UNROOTED AND CURRENTLY UNABLE TO ROOT*

Possible reason for failure
I had similar issues when I tried to manually root my fascinate after the dl09 update, and was using the most current samsung usb drivers...i think 1.3.550.
I removed the drivers and used the older 1.3.450 and was successfully able to root.

To do without a one click app please give directions because I don't know how to root using other methods

Excuse my ignorance, but did you root after ota update or previous that, thanks
Sent from my SGH-I987 using XDA App

can't figure out how to since the update z4root won't do it
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

That was the only method that worked for me after the update.

Tried but says drivers may be old but just updates em

fascinate root no pc

Anyway to root a fasicnate with android 2.1 without a PC
What OS are you using?
For Mac there's a nice simple write up over at Android Central

You'll have to use Heimsdall to flash CWM though or get VMWare or something to use Odin...
If it's linux..some searches around XDA should give you a good start
Use an app called z4root. I can't find it on the market but it is on applanet
Haven't used it myself but my father did on his fascinate and apparently it worked famously

it works, it's how I rooted.
you should install titanium backup afterward if you want to get a good copy of busybox though.
Thread moved to General.
used z4root on my wifes fascinate without a hitch.

I would just quickly like to point out that although z4root will get you root without a pc, you are kinda stuck without having a pc. You won't be able to flash cwm or radios. so no new roms since you won't have cwm

Exactly. Cwm is flashed through odin. The OP doesn't have a pc. So there in lies a problem.
I thought he just wanted to do with out a pc. I must of misunderstood.

I could be the one mistaken. The OP hasn't actually stated they don't have a pc. So who knows lol
True! Haha sorry for jumping to conclusions

What do you mean wont download. Are you talking about the phone wont download the program or z4 isn't working?
Sounds like he wants to root via the phone only and not use any computer.
I don't think that is possible, sorry.
Yea wont download to the phone like my buddies Droid x but he has froyo and he rooted his without a PC my fascinate still has 2.1 so am I stuck without a PC or 2.2 update to get it rooted

[Q] How to r00t Samsung GALAXY Tab?

Apologies if there are similar threads.
I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

try installing clockwork manager; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960118
then use it to flash superuser; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
but before doing either do about one hour of reading on this forum and get familiar with everything thats out there this isn't something you should do without some research first.
Thanks. I know what I am doing in regards to rooting. Just wanted to know what program people were using to get root. Different builds sometimes prevent some programs from obtaining root, i.e z4root. What is the most reliable, easy way for the fascinate

I used that guide to root my phone
The only problem I ran into was the stock kernel was causing problems with clockwork recovery 'staying'
upgrading to the voodoo kernel solved this issue (you don't have to use voodoo IIRC, but it helps keep the recovery in place)
good luck!
For DL09, I always use one click root. Never had a problem with it.

Rooting for 2.3.3

TBH is in the process of right now releasing a leaked Moto build of Gingerbread 2.3.3. As of right now, they have been unable to root it, as all known root methods appear to no longer work. Anyone want to tackle it?
obviously not gonna be easy....if TBH can't do it.. I doubt anyone can
Don't think anything is impossible. They just got the release yesterday. It sometimes takes a collaboration of several devs to get root.
If my download ever finishes I gonna try like hello and throw everything I have at it. Lol.

i have an idea about getting root but im not sure if it will work or not but pretty much instead of rebooting after installing 2.3.3 you install the su.zip file found somewhere on xda and you should have root but im not 100% sure

That will soft-brick the phone and you'll have to SBF from RSDLite. You can't install any other zips directly after installing a ROM or it won't pass the signature verification on reboot.

Locked bootloader and root access are two different things.

well the nexus s/one use a method which requires the bootloader to be unlocked in order to obtain root so technically speaking they are the same in this case
so far though i have been reading about a gingerbreak exploit from the same guy who released rageinthecage exploit
maybe if we contacted him he might release gingerbreak so we can have root access
that sucks

Search the market for "Superuser" and there is an app that has comments stating it worked for GB on N1.
I downloaded it and ran it and it seemed to have done the first part of what it needed to do fine... but now the next step is flash this .zip update that is on the memory card through recovery...... I don't want to be the genea pig as I need my phone atm...
EDIT: Just read luigi's post.. not sure now...

GingerBreak

anyone had a chance to look at this and try it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
I've heard it works but I have no need to try it
It appears that a few Droid X owners have successfully used this exploit, according to some of the responses in the link you provided. I'll be interested to see if this will work on the final Ginberbread OTA (keeping fingers crossed)!
I just tried it and it works. No problems arose.
That's definitely good news if the OTA comes out and it's got important tweaks that .588 doesn't have.

If wireless tether works for you then go ahead and use it, Verizon can only track the tbh hack. Some people have not been able tto get it to work

As long as you don't use it there will not be any problems
Just SBF'd to .340 and used the official update to .588, GingerBreak worked fine except I'm having issues getting Titanium Backup to recognize it has root. I get the prompt to allow it, but the app still says it doesn't have it. Other root apps, like adfree and autokiller memory work just fine. Hmf.
Scratch that. Just went back into TB, updated busybox and it's right as rain. Two thumbs up!
Works great for my DX, however, I need to un-root it and I've tried several ways from other forums and I am not having any luck.
Does anyone know the procedure to un-root for GingerBreak?
Edit: I don't have Gingerbread installed either, I'm just running 2.2.1 - I don't know if this makes a difference when trying to un-root this. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I've been scouring trying to find a solution and I've had no luck yet. I've tried rooting then unrooting when the one-click program and that isn't helping me either. Any suggestions??
I don't know if this can be answered but it doesn't hurt to ask. How come the ota cannot be rooted but the P3droid version of GB can be rooted? If its the same thing then what is the difference on why it cant be rooted?
Just going to guess here (this is speculation not fact) but I would assume that p3 being as skilled as he is was able to reopen the exploits used to root that motor/verizon closed in the ota.

it just has to be rooted before it's put onto the phone. once on the phone, it cant be done.
