hi, was wondering if there's a theme or mod that will add the interface like TimeScape, MediaScape from xperia (or Rachael UI). pretty slick but haven't found it anywhere.
Thanks.
If nobody decides to copy it i'm sure a few months down the line when the devide is rooted someone will work on importing the interface to the Desire.
thanks
The only thing I have to do then is just wait, as myself I don't have the phone and neither the knowledge .
Thanks.
we'll have to wait till' the x10 get android 2.1 update
so is there anything happening with this?
I doubt it since I'm pretty sure the Xperia is expecting a 2.1 update which hasn't arrived yet.. besides the UI for the Xperia is Timescape which sorta sucks compared to anything else you can get on the Desire. For example, if you want something simple then go with MIUI or if you want something advanced then go with a copy of SenseHD

timescape is a better feature in comarison, in my opinion, plus HD roms dont have cams...so any help to port the timescape to desire would be awesome.
Ive been hoping some X10 features would be ported since i played with one, but its probably similar to getting Sense widgets on AOSP roms.

I really think we have to do something very strong to make Sony realize they have to take care of us and give us Froyo without waiting for this silly Timescape/Mediascape nonsense update delay.
What do you think wille be the best collective action?:
-Petition
-synchronised mail (everyone send a mail to SE at a coordinated time)
-thousands of comments on this pages:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...-upgrade-in-q4-2010/comment-page-10/#comments
-massive customer support calls
.... any idea
In my opinion, being a SE dedicated user since my K790, SE will give us a few updates including 2.1 but that will do it for this device.
2.2 (or 2.4, whatever) will be released on the X11 or whatever the next Xperia Android device is.
The reason is new business along with SE's continual use of a custom UI over a standard OS.
I had x1 and now x10, but if sony don't get Android 2.2 then I am selling this phone and not getting anything else from them again (would buy HTC instead).
/\ That's for sony hopefully it works
Ill say the petition and post it on any cellphone forum you could know, the point is even if sony ericson dismiss it for now,it could hurt further sales.

I agree; it's not as if SE spent all the time and manpower to build their UI for just one device.. X10 is their first dip in the pool, and the loyal fans are sadly being taken for a ride through this experiment.. and their next Android device will (hopefully!) learn from the shortcomings of the X10.
I'll probably get an X10 if it's rooted, but let's be honest, that seems pretty unlikely. I might go for a Nexus One if it gets cheap in a few months. (my options are limited since I need the 1700 AWS band for 3G to work on T-Mobile US)
Do you guys really think SE is going to care if there's a petition out there? They've got their own slow and puzzling way of doing things and show no signs of changing.
I think mass emails would best. Someone needs to write a letter and then we can copy it and all send it to sony.
Whilst the idea of a petition is good and constructive, i doubt it will make very little difference.
SE are already aware of how important the latest version of the Android OS is to its X10 customers.
They have an official blog which was designed to communicate with and to receive feedback from it's customers.
From the begining customers were campaigning for mulitouch and 2.1.
Infact potentials customer were campaigning for 2.1 before release (whilst the official release was delayed)
Since the announcement about 2.1 in Q4. All the customers on that blog are also campaigning for 2.2.
I think their problems are with the integration of the UX(Time and MediaScape) with android (which caused the original delayed release).
Funny thing for me is i'd rather take the new OS updates over their UX.
honestly, i think the UX is a piece of crap, i never use it.
Just wait till you can root it and have 2.2 on it, just a waist of energy doing a petition to se....

The UI doesn't even seem all that customized. What? The timescape as the home interface was a UI? Looks like a freaking app to me.
X10 has one of the best hardware you can ask for the moment. But no software to take advantage of the hardware just isn't right. Q4 for a 2.1 update?
Please, 2.2 is out already.
SE already lost me. My N1 is coming on Tuesday. And with 2.2 out, x10 will probably hit ebay soon or after a 2.1 update. Unless SE grows a pair and hand us 2.2 like in one month.
I hate to rag on the x10 but the phone was just not what I had expected and I ask myself, I wait for this phone?
4 inch screen won't mean jack when a 3.7 inch can view flash videos. And so far we don't even know if SE will even hand us 2.2. And that's the sad part.
SE screwed this phone. They shouldn't have gone with custom UI. It is laggy even with the best hardware available. Horrendous.
My rant is over.

OMG !!!
2.2 update for N1 is already being pushed over the air......
( sorry for being out of topic
Omg… please upgrade to 2.2. Even G1 works better with Froyo. Why are we the lowest of the low? I think there are many people very disappointed.
SE needs to clear this up soon. Why would anyone buy an X10 now?

any device with root is better than x10 , let's support root team because with root ,there will not be any problem at all
If timescape and mediascape were a mind bogglingy good interface that is integrated perfectly into the main UI I would say "fine. I can see why they are being a bit slow about it", but for crying out loud, they are just a couple of apps that belong in the damn market place.
I decieded to go ahead and make the petition, might be for nothing but hey why not.i just need your help to corect my statement and improve it if you fell like it,thats the text i wrote for the petition.
We would like to suggest a path for the future development of the Sony Ericsson (Xperia X10, Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 mini pro)
Some recent development on the Android platform, have made the current OS software 1.6 outdated. Most of the current product sold by your competitor are currently running on 2.1 and some already getting the new OS software 2.2.
The OS software version 2.1 have been announced for the end of the current year to be available on your Xperia x10 line, but that update will still put your product behind the competition since even older device will be running OS software 2.2 at that time.
The hardware specification of the X10 line is quite impressive and should in theory be able to be quite competitive. Sadly the hardware is extremely limited by the software ,preventing us the user to use the full capacity of your device and make most of the application available for Android impossible to use ,since they need the version 2.1.
Wireless technology is an integral part of everyday life and we has customer or future customer would like to request the new Android OS version 2.2 to be implemented instead of the 2.1.
We believe it would serve Sony Ericsson interest as well, making your product competitive and expend your user base. As you know the Android platform is rapidly growing and update is the key of that success.
We hope you will understand our concern and demand.
It's obvious we have to make a sound to sony ericsson. They need to know what customers want and at least try to give them what they want. I don't have my x10 yet, but I will be buying it next week.
I've already checked out timescape, it is essentially an Application, with customized libraries and a plugin manager etc. In fact there are 3 different apps voor timescape present in the system. They use SE's self designed libraries and SE's self designed permissions. These libraries and permission are present in the x10 system software.
And I'm not a good programmer, just a n00b, but I don't know if anyone would be able to port these libraries and permissions in let's just say an app. If this is not possible then SE will always need to customize the Android system with it's own UI before handing the update to end-users.

I was just wondering if it is possible to port the UX interface to other android devices... I browsed the forum for quite a while, but didn't find an answer to that question.
I've heard that HTC Sense was ported to other phones, so I thought maybe it's possible to realize UX on other devices, too!
If this has been discussed earlier, I apologize for creating an obsolete new thread.
I would really love to see this. Especially timescape & mediascape, but honestly I don't think this is going to happen.
I know that kingklick claimed to have it ported and nearly working on a nexus one, some weeks after the x10 came out, but his rom has never seen its release.
I think, one of the main problems is that rachael is still Android 1.6
I recently asked Sony Ericsson for an Xperia X8 2.2 an official update, I was not expecting a reply but they did.
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
We can advise the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini, Mini Pro and X8 were all tested on Android 2.2 but did not improve the handset but rather diminished it as it started to run slower and crashed frequently which will not have improved the user experience.
The decision was then made to keep these handsets on Android 2.1 as they were originally designed to go up to Android 2.1 and no further, however as Android 2.2 was requested by our users the handset was tested.
Once we were able to update the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to Android 2.3 we then also tested the Xperia X10 Mini, Mini Pro and X8 with this Android platform, however it again diminished the handset.
Sony Ericsson decided to keep these handsets on Android 2.1 so the handset would perform at its highest. As advised we will continue to release system updates for the handset to try and improve it as much as possible, however this will not be performed by updating the Operating System to Android 2.2 or 2.3.
We can only apologise for the inconvenience caused and will ensure your feedback is passed on to the relevant department to be looked into.

Hmmmm..........I'm pretty sure the custom made by devs don't crash I'm guessing they can't be bothered.
The reason is simple: they don't want to upgrade OS for us because that upgrade doesn't bring them profit.
It (the above reply) is just a way to fool noob users to stay with 2.1 happily.

TRUE!
Please someone who knows english flawlessly reply to SE:
If you found out 2.2 is diminishing the phone, then why does the ported 2.2 (2.3)
ROMs faster, than the original SE 2.1 soft with X8?
P.S.: If you need good programmers, browse at XDA...

Why don't you reply to them? Attach links to custom roms including 2.2 and 2.3 on this forum and ask if they are idiots or they have idiot developers? Ask exacley what they tested, what doesn't work, what exacley what is slow, ask when they are planinig updates, what kind of updates...
Be stupid and BOTHER THEM with question =)
If few individuals can make [email protected], I still wounder how big companie such as SE can't do it.
I agree with post above > no money -no new android. So much for customer service.
I'm guessing i won't be buying another SE anytime soon, aldough I realy liked the brand.
Yeah, android 2.2 and 2.3 used to crash on X8's stock kernel. If they modified the kernel for the newer version of android it would have stopped crashing. But I guess they took a look at it, decided it's too much of a work for them, and dumped the project in order to focus on newer phones
As for slowing down - if drivers were meant for 2.1 of course it slowed down. If they made a proper 2.3 update for X8 it would run smooth as baby's ass.
Bullshitters.
i have a bit....
we all know hardware of W8 is the same of X8
after coming update 2.2 or 2.3 for W8 (not our X8) send them this request with this silly answer
when they say again :

hi
Fo r me they won't do it because tmost of the people now are practical if they upgrade the
phones with cheaper value the sales of phones with cheaper value will increase but the phone with higher value will decrease in sales

Very True. Now we have ICS running very smooth.
I think the 2.2 roms that are running smooth here, are because they have no additional software running in the background. If you have SE software running in the background and SE apps installed, of course it will be slow.
Is there any ICS un official software that's stable and has most the features like camera, calling, texting, 2G/3G, wifi, bluetooth and if possible the new face unlock?
I have rooted my Xperia play and now want to install custom software since sony has now ditched the Play sadly it could do with a few PS games or should i just sell this phone and get a new one with ICS?
There are lots of roms: CM9, AOKPlay, PlayOSP. I wouldn't buy another phone, because of all the ICS-based roms, but if you have enough money, it's up to you.
Honestly
I have yet to use an ICS based custom rom that doesn't decrease performance.
Your best bet is to use one of the many Xperia S builds as they offer the best speed and most of the features you would ever want anyways.
cheers for your posts guys. can you cross phone software like xperia S on xperia play? ill check out the roms you mentioned and install one. do you guys know if that face unlock feature works in them? i dont really want to buy a new phone i just bought the xperia play lol

For ICS I'd wait until the dust settles.
Given the flack Sony are taking on their social networking sites I wouldn't be surprised to see a turn around.
At any case, once the other 2011 Xperia lines are updated to ICS and there's stable running custom ROM's etc, you'll likely see some that are ported for the Play.
