hi, was wondering if there's a theme or mod that will add the interface like TimeScape, MediaScape from xperia (or Rachael UI). pretty slick but haven't found it anywhere.
Thanks.
If nobody decides to copy it i'm sure a few months down the line when the devide is rooted someone will work on importing the interface to the Desire.
thanks
The only thing I have to do then is just wait, as myself I don't have the phone and neither the knowledge .
Thanks.
we'll have to wait till' the x10 get android 2.1 update
so is there anything happening with this?
I doubt it since I'm pretty sure the Xperia is expecting a 2.1 update which hasn't arrived yet.. besides the UI for the Xperia is Timescape which sorta sucks compared to anything else you can get on the Desire. For example, if you want something simple then go with MIUI or if you want something advanced then go with a copy of SenseHD

timescape is a better feature in comarison, in my opinion, plus HD roms dont have cams...so any help to port the timescape to desire would be awesome.
Ive been hoping some X10 features would be ported since i played with one, but its probably similar to getting Sense widgets on AOSP roms.

Hi,
This is my first post here. I got my htc hero a couple days ago and I've spent most of that time tinkering with it. I'm generally loving it, although I prefer the original android home screen to htc's custom interface. I've noticed that some things like the phonebook are quite laggy, and am under the impression that android's stock phonebook would feel much snappier.
So I would like to install a stock cupcake or donut android to my phone. The thing is, I'm really new to this so I'm not even sure if it's possible. Can it be done? Has any of you guys done it? Even if I succeed, will I be able to use my phone to call and send messages, or will I need to do extra stuff? Can I backup everything in my phone, so that I'll be able to revert it if I break something or I decide that no, the sense ui was better after all?
You see that's a lot of questions, I really hope you guys can give me a hand with this.
Cheers!
After reading some other threads, I think I have some of my questions answered. But do you guys know if any of the stock android builds works with the hero? Can I install anything to it, apart from the system that came with the phone?
you can only install Hero builds on your phone! currently there are none as the phone just came out. So just be patient. If you think the UI is too laggy.. clear default home screen and use regular launcher..
The HTC touchflo stuff works on top of android so If you REALLY wanted to revert back to basic android then i guess you could after rooting and installing a basic android ROM. WARNING though, i dont think that has been done yet. reasons in include
WHY WHY WHY?
Hero has exchange support, basic flash support.

Well minogue seems to think otherwise... has anyone tried actually?
Anyway, if I use nandroid to backup my system I shouldn't risk anything right?
I think I'll just wait but, can you point me to a basic android Rom? I've seen there are lots of them and I would't know which one to pick.
I written this with the phone, by the way. Awesome keyboard

And you would lose this 'awesome' keyboard!
Just turn off SenseUI. The rest of Android runs underneath.
Where are the default Calendar and Contact apps ?
I'm in exactly the same boat as frandavid100. I love the Hero's hardware, but most of SenseUI is too flashy; I don't care about most of the improvements (seven home screens, irritating widgets, lots of Facebook/Twitter/Flickr integration, exchange support) and I'd say some of them are worse than the alternative (the calendar doesn't show as much information in the month view; Flash in the browser just makes websites much, much slower and doesn't work for video).
On the other hand, apparently 1.5 is much faster, and 2.0 (on release) will have multitouch in Google Maps as well as in the browser, so I'd like to get running the stock Android operating system.
I don't know anything about cooking ROMs, though, so I'll wait for a kind benefactor. Hopefully it's not just frandavid100 and I who want a faster version of Android...
Glad to see I'm not alone.
Anyway, is there a way to test the stock android keyboard and phonebook? I kinda dig htc's keyboard, with its compact qwerty layout, but I hate the phonebook and I haven't found a decent alternative in the market.

Beeing used to G1 I would also prefer simple UI .. not that Sense is bad
but I prefer simple that sexy UI Then we could benefit of full hero
power on cupcake or donut ...

You already effectively have Cupcake on the Hero - firmware version is V1.5, which is a Cupcake build. If you just drop Sense UI, your back to almost a vanilla G1 build, which the exception you have HTC keyboards and apps as opposed to Google ones. Given that the hardware in the Hero is pretty similar to the Magic (at least those with 288mb RAM), there isn't exactly any additional "power" to harness either!
With respect to Donut, as far as I'm aware there are *no* operational Donut ROMs available for the G1, Magic, or Hero as yet.
Regards,
Dave
I do also prefer the clean fast Android interface over HTC's one, I know how to make the default home screen to be the Android one but touchflo keeps running in the backgroupd eating more than 30MB RAM and wondering if it is safe to uninstall this package and probably others too. In brief, disable the sense UI. It is maybe nice but at this point is slow compared to the Android interface
yeh, i would like to remove the touchflo altogether as it keeps running in the background even though i use the default home screen. Or at least have some sort of of startup manager to stop things running at boot.
must be out soon, there is some leaked screenshots here including the widget.

OK - so the Her is already running Cupcake, but with SenseUI on top, and while you can disable some parts of SenseUI from running, you can't actually get rid of them.
In that case I think I'll wait and see what happens around Donut. If HTC release an updated Hero ROM, I'll go with that, and if they don't, I can wait for a generous ROM chef to bake a nice, basic Donut ROM for the Hero. Thanks for everyone's help.
You'll need to root your phone to do it:

Me tooo
I would love to be able to 'downgrade' my Hero to the stock android.
At the very least, I'd love an easy way to install the stock android applications on top of the HTC ones, and hopefully uninstall the ones I don't use so as to save some application space.
Hey everyone,
Since the Android platform is so open to developers, is it simple to port the HTC Sense UI over to say the Motorola Droid? I know the Motorola is not what this forums is about, but is the UI something that can be extracted and put together for the Droid? I love the Sense, but those specs of the Droid really have caught my eye.
Let me know.
im not soo sure of this but that Motorola Droid looks bloody good! Really nice device, huge screen and it is one of the few Droid phones around that has a flash (LED i know but better than none)
is there going to be gsm version of droid?

i doubt it anytime soon...first the droid would need to be rooted first then devs can start buildin on it.
I guess DROID will have a better version of MotoBlur. And it can be better then Sense.... This is just my guess.
Actually since it is a Google Experience device it will NOT have motoblur on it.

Why "Google Experience device" does not have MotoBlur ?
Is Moto Cliq not "Google Experience device"?
I understand, "Google Experiance (enabled) device" means it has Google's Closed-Source Applications / LIbraries installed, includes Android Market access, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Google sync, etc.
.... Am I wrong?

I was wrong, my dear.

Somehow, Android 2.0 includes MotoBlur's framework in it.
Basic idea of MotoBlur is to integrate phone and social network sites.
This is what Android 2.0 got, and 1.6 did not have at all.
I am thinking Android 2.0 is a better integration of Android 1.6 and MotoBlur.
I dont know how possible this is going to be.
From what i remember reading the sense ui, is dependant on the HTC framework which is a large part of the rom.
Its not just a question of ripping bits out, as is seen with WinMo and TouchFLO.
This is why sense hasnt been ported out to the g1 and instead the are ripping hero roms out and getting them running.
Not sure if the moto blur has the same frame work dependancy as the sense ui does.

Please try and read my post and understand whats being said. That way you wont find the need to make sarcastic comments, its not particulary helpful for anyone else trying to follow the thread.
Just so you know Sense UI isnt a ROM, Sense (aka Rosie) is HTC's Custom UI for Android, closed source im affraid so no direct porting on the any other handset, all you can do is modifiy another phones ROM to run on your hardware.
Is it possible to PORT Sense UI to other devices such as the Sony Ericsson X10, Dell Mini 5 etc?
I really Fancy a Dell Mini 5 but i seriously want Sense UI. I couldnt go back to the Android without it. I wish the Supersonic would just hurry up. I want an Android phone with at least a 4" Screen running Android 2.1....
over at alldroid.org, there is a group of developers under the name Zeusdroid that are working on porting SenseUI over and nearly have it completed besides the RIL or the Radio Interface Link. Due to HTC's special configurations of their ROM that tie into the Radio, there has been some issues with it switching between 3G and 1X to make outgoing calls and then not being able to receive incoming calls.
If there are any season software engineers out there that would be willing to mod the existing RIL to work with the SenseUI rom, please head over to alldroid.org and seen a PM to Greek35T, thegeektern, Birdman or myself.
Thanks,
tallnerd1985
Sorry... but I'm new to the Droid community, but not new to modding.
I've already been through 6 ROMs on my phone... right now on UltimateDroid. It's alright... I need better though.
I've been looking all over... and alldroid is dead. Sadly.
Does anybody know where there might be somebody still working on this and getting it fully functional on the MotoDroid?
I would really love to have SenseUI. And be OCed as fast as I am (Quadrant has BCed me at 1500+ w/ Chevy's 1250 ULV).
Let me know guys... Thanks!
WOW thread necromancy.
There is a user over at droidforums that is working on a sense ui port on the droid 1 from the incredible.
He has a flashable version right now that phone and text work on but no data.
Check this thread.
I hate sense UI I love the vanilla look, lockscreen, dialer, etc. Htc has already disabled google launcher with update, so now i fear our froyo will be waterd down in with htc sense. What do you guys think. If its true bye bye evo.
watered down my @ss HTC sense is a much better looking functioning version of the android ui although I can sympathize with people liking stock everything.

Of course HTC will include Froyo with Sense, it's HTC, what do you expect? However, there's an easy solution -- just set the Vanilla UI as your default and not Sense.
And just because the Evo will have a Froyo with Sense, you plan on saying good bye to your phone?? Have you seen what the devs and themers here can create? Not to mention, its extremely easy to rip out Sense if you want to, there are tons of people like you that don't care for Sense, there will definitely be a Senseless Froyo when it comes out.
I quite frankly think Sense is great (highly customizable), the Vanilla Android isn't anything special -- thus the reason why Google plans on making drastic changes too it in the future Gingerbread update.
Cant even set vanilla as default now with recent ota

I hear that palm treo is nice. You should get rid of your evo and go get one of those babys! VANILLA to the max!!!
If you dont like sense then get a different phone or root and change it to whatever you want. hell make your own theme. Complaining about sense would be the same as buying a car and complaining that it was red. Sure you could change it to blue if you REALLY wanted but you didnt think about what you wanted when you got it so now you would rather complain.

I think the OP's point was that with the latest update, they removed the option to do what you're saying, you can no longer go to stock Android and are forced to use Sense.
It'll suck for those that don't want to root their phone. For everyone else, I'm sure we'll be able to disable sense if we wish. Just another reason in a long list to root our phones.
If you don't want to root and you don't like sense, then I guess your only real option for a vanilla android phone will be a nexus one, or maybe a Droid if you can disable their UI's as well.

Yea, I tested the the method and well it seems the new update did take away vanilla option. But... I'm sure someone will find away around it or you can always find a ROM without Sense.
Use launcherpro. It does what the stock launcher does only better.
I was just wondering if it is possible to port the UX interface to other android devices... I browsed the forum for quite a while, but didn't find an answer to that question.
I've heard that HTC Sense was ported to other phones, so I thought maybe it's possible to realize UX on other devices, too!
If this has been discussed earlier, I apologize for creating an obsolete new thread.
I would really love to see this. Especially timescape & mediascape, but honestly I don't think this is going to happen.
I know that kingklick claimed to have it ported and nearly working on a nexus one, some weeks after the x10 came out, but his rom has never seen its release.
I think, one of the main problems is that rachael is still Android 1.6
I got excited when my new preowned hero had an update available
Thought maybe I was getting 2.2. No such luck. Just an update for 2.1 that just breaks Facebook contact sync.
So now I'm cm6.1 as 7 seems unstable. Keyboard transparency and the like. But no sense!
I love sense and I'd like to stay on 2.2 or above. Does anyone know if we will be getting an official HTC 2.2 or can someone suggest a nice fast 2.2 custom rom with sense?

Hi there
There won't be official 2.2.
Also - There are no fully working 2.2 baked roms with sense. Usualy there are huge problems with camera.
cheers

Thanks. That's a real shame. Guess I'll stick with cm6.1. Maybe keep my eyes peeled for a nice 2.3.

Hi
Try Elelinux's Gingerbread Rom He does some pretty goody Roms
as for Sense you can try these two programs which do almost pretty much the same
Launcherpro plus and Beautiful Widgets together give you almost a sense like look
You might have to buy them if you really want them lovely effects
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB5mW8MySSk
the latest launcher pro has sense like calender and contacts and stuff
and beautiful widgets does clocks and stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm6Luip0nho
I did actually try elelinuxs cm7 based Rom but I was gettin transparent keyboards and black screens even with the patch.
I have currently settled on a 2.2 with sense Rom. I'm too keen on friend stream and the contacts and calendar. I sorta feel like I'm doin HTC an injustice if I don't use sense.
It's only the camera that doesn't work and tbh the hero camera is pretty gash.
Thank you both for your suggestions and ideas but I can't buy from the mrket otherwise I would try launcher pro plus and beautiful widgets.

What can you expect from a big company and 2 years old phone ...
Sense is a horrible resource guzzling interface anyhow. I am in the same situation, I have a HTC Hero GSM running CM6.1. I missed sense at first, but CM is so much faster and featureful. You can really customise your phone on CM, so stop whining like a *****.

Maybe so, but the Dialer, Calendar, Exchange Mail client and Clock/Alarms/Stopwatch/Timer apps are all great (in my opinion).
