I've been doing a lot of research, and reading on the G1 forum, but i was just curious what you guys thought about the new Tmobile G1. It looks like a really slick phone and I'm seriously thinking about ordering it.
I know a lot of people will post the "its awesome" pitch.... but honestly
pros: extremely powerful hardware with a very stable operating system.
cons: the operating system is very new... meaning that there is no real software or rom development out there for it.... meaning no customization. (and currently no real games at all!!!! lol)
conclusion: im happy enough with my wing that i PERSONALLY will stick with it for a while (especially with ttrans new 7.4 rom - great performance and plenty of space).... as soon as some real progress is made in development for android i will buy a G1
I pre-ordered mine 2 hours ago and can't wait to get mine on November 10th.
I have the Wing and love it but I'm the type of person that gets bored really fast. So G1 here I come!

Well if your that type of person then you will only be entertained by the G1 for about a week... i've been doing some reseach on it and most of the reviews say that its pretty basic and needs work by developers! the only reason i would get one is the fact that it has the hardware to support 3G..but my location wont have it till next year so im happy with my wing!!
i personally love my wing
i can see my self upgrading to the touch pro instead of the g1
i ilke the innovative look the the g1 but if i get some hand on with it i can see which phone i will go to
i have had a lot of hands on with the touch diamond so i can fix a lot of the issues with the touch pro if i get it
Look, I loved my Wing when I had it too. But any one who thinks the G1 won't blow the Wing out of the water is ridiculously stupid. And I don't say that to offend any one either. Do some research. Look at what the phone can do and what they phone will do in the future. People can make applications. That right there says a bunch. Imagine the kind of **** we'll be able to use. Android may be new, but it's gotten great reviews. As time goes on, it will only get better for the G1 and its users. There's a reason they've sold over 1.5 million pre-orders for the G1. Stick with Windows Mobile if you want, lol.

I just wish I had one so I could actually spend time with it. The fact that it's more or less open source, means there will be a ton of programs and applications once there is time to make them. I think I'll hold off for a bit, but 179 is ridiculously cheap compared to the wing, and has the hardware to smoke, but for the time being, I think I'll just keep moddin my wing and do some more research.

Nah, I'm going to wait and do more research and see what programs, roms, and games become available. I think I'll stick with the wing for now, and just mod and flash roms every other week! lol. But, the G1 is only 179 so thats a huge price drop. Either way, I really can't wait to see what becomes available for the G1.
what would be great would be a g1 wm6 port - with fully functional drivers..... i know everyone is talking about getting android on their phone, but just think for a second how nice it would be to get a nice new extremely fast phone for 170 odd dollars and continue using all the software you are familiar with.... and then as soon as application development and customization become mainsteam for android you could always flash back. i know its too much to wish for because of the lack of drivers, but it would be great for me if it ended up happening

You know, that would be PERFECT. I'm really not that familiar with the Android o.s., but if they could incorporate it into WM6, then it would be hands down the winner. We could use everything we already use to load applications, etc. Since it's supposed to be open source, maybe somebody will figure out how to do it?!?
G1 vs Wing
This month in PC Magazine (October 2008) Sascha Sagan, the director of new product reviews, said this,"never buy a product in the first few weeks after it comes out. Wait a month. By then... you will be able to tell if something is really worth a buy".
My two cents,
Paul D.
G1 will eventually be better than the wing, just not now. There's alot of holes that need patching up in the os to make it a real competitor to wm. When u compare Android right now to say ttran otp 7.x, Android isn't even in the same league. But give it some time, and maybe Android 2.0, then u'll really start seeing what G1 can do.
Also, this will be a fun phone in regards to xda's developing and hacking community and also to us, the end-user. As people start accessing and examing the innards of Android, who knows what juicy things can be created and imagined. Only issue i see is the stuff they left out, but the os seems to be solid with no real problems experienced. Messaging needs work, with mms being the main problem (can't send gifs or video).

Yeah I agree. Seeing how this phone is really meant to be modified, I can't even imagine the amount of software, roms, mods, etc there will be for this phone. I do think it will take some time, so I believe I will hold off, but I'm pretty excited about it.

that is exactly what i want. i just want to keep useing windows mobile. it has been around for ever (ce). hopefully someone in the linux community will figure out how to flash it to what ever you want.
I am a G1/Wing owner. I got my G1 2 days ago and i can tell you, i am very happy with the phone so far. I do miss using TTran's OPT and hope they port TouchFlo2D to Android. The Manilla Theme is the best i've seen!
I am also one of those people that would much rather run Linux on my PCs at home, but don't because i am in the IT field so i need to stay current on Windows. Anyhow, I understand people wanting to wait and recommend most do that. I am not usually the type to jump on a product at Version 1 until some updates and public testing has been done. But i am looking forward to Android's growing pains!
I just upgraded to a G1. What I did was, when the G1 presale was announced, I called to say I was going to cancel my service soon and asked what they would offer to keep me. The CS rep asked what I had in mind. I said I wanted the to see if there was a way to get the G1 with 1 a year contract. The CS rep told me not until after the actual launch but she would lower my unlimited family text messaging to $9.99 permanently if I would wait until the launch to decide. I agreed. So today, I called back for the G1. They offered me the G1 for $179 + NO $18 upgrade fee if I agreed to keep my four lines for 1 year. So, that's what I did. I wasn't going to cancel anyway because, it's hard top beat T-Mo's rates, even if the coverage is a little weaker than other carriers in my area. My Wing will likely be up for sale after I evaluate the G1.
Update:
I just canceled my order. I don't want to put $800 on the line to save $300.
So a year ago when I bought this phone I apparently paid $500 to be a beta tester of an underperforming, premature, lackluster phone. I've lost alot of time behind this phone's malfunctions. yeah it's cool that I can tweak it and write software for it, but if everything locks the phone up whats the point.
well it froze for the 1 millionth and last time this morning. I witnessed "The Flight of the Mogul", and it was freakin awesome.
I'm over cell phones, I'd go back to smoke signals if i didn't run the risk of arson.
i think we all feel your pain. I'm just biding my time until i can afford a replacement. Likely ill wait the one more year or so till my contract is up and go to an iphone lol.
I would have gladly taken that sucker off your hands.
Good, glad to hear it you smashed your mogul. Meanwhile while yours lays in pieces mine is giving me the power playing movies flawlessly in skyfire, giving me perfect voice guided navigation from IGO 8, the piece of mind of the newest windows live speakable search, fast email and texting with a full qwerty keyboard, the power to retrieve files off my desktop at home, perfect access to my IM accounts, and new home screens whenever I grow tired of one. And you know the one thing I haven't worried about since DCD 3.x.x is ram. Everything runs smoothly and transitions like men in your mom's bedroom. Trash the mogul in some other forum, because for the majority of us it works perfectly. Compare it now to the problems the diamond has. I think you'll agree it has far less at this point. I will do fine on carrying me into the next generation. Nothing except the touch hd is really worth getting excited about right now and it is having trouble making it to the US. Why don't you just go get a blackberry storm? It is easier to use for you.

I'm happy for you. I admit that the only thing I haven't done is flash to a custom ROM, believe it or not I downloaded the latest DCD this weekend but never got around to it. I think the moral to the story is that the ability to customize a device with unofficial ROM's should not be the saving grace of an otherwise poor performing device. I believe that it should be an extra, cool thing to do for geek cred, not because the phone sucks otherwise. what's so hard about optimizing the phone for its hardware before release.
I've been riding it out for a long time, thru all the updates and ports of apps from other HTC's. So i think I'll just wait until the Raphael is improved upon, atleast it has a reasonable amount of memory.

I feel you. a friend of mine has it, and it's nice, but i can't roll with Verizon, plus i dont want to be apart of the crackberry scene, and i dont want to sell my soul to Apple, so I'll probably stick with WM, At the end of the day, m$ has the most mature API. i been drinkin their koolaid for my entire career.
but in the meantime I guess I'll resort to some good 'ol fashioned yodeling.
If you have had this much trouble than no matter how you look at it, the only reason you've had so much trouble is user error. If you don't know how to properly install and cook apps and roms, then get the f out of the kitchen homie. The mogul is for people who understand devices and computers or for those who want to learn. If you are looking for a cool devices that has not even a quarter of the programing capabilities than buy a storm or iphone. They are pretty. Or buy the diamond or the touch pro and be in the same boat. The mogul is old now and it still is running with the big boys and now more than ever doing it reliably. You have a problem with installing custom roms. Its called sdk my friends. Windows did the bare minimum to release the platform and then put it in the developers hands. Developers like dcd that have more talent in their little finger than most the people at microsoft or blackberry or apple. Wait for the standard blackberry and apple updates then as they are behind from the moment they are released. And mark my words, if you have trouble with the mogul you will have trouble with any htc device. They all have their ups and downs though the touch and the mogul's downs are pretty close to having them all worked out.

ok Sweety Puss.
i don't take it personal. but yes i did smash my phone. lol.
I feel for you.
Just today I opened up the Media Player, went to the music library, and noticed one of my albums was in there TWICE. I couldn't believe it. I had to do an 'update library' just to get rid of it. I thought about throwing it under a truck. The horror of it all.
I'll bet by this Friday, I'll have even have to do a soft reset again. I already did one LAST WEEK. Uncalled for.
Flaming POS.
What's funny is that the 6800 seems to have the least appeal to two sets of users. IMO there are four broad categories of users:
1. Casuals
2. Intermediates
3. advanced
4. Pushers
Casuals are people like my mom. You know them. They want a phone but don't know the first thing about how to do anything with them. Believe it or not, the 6800 is just fine for them. You can use the standard WM 6 interface right out of the box and it serves as a very nice pcoket computer and cell phone. You see, casual users don't need a bunch of fancy tricks and special apps. They are happy to simply get a cell phone, camera, qwerty key board, and push email and pim. Nevertheless, casual users are apt to enjoy the neat interface of the iphone or storm.
Intermediates are very likely not to enjoy the 6800. Why? Because they know just enough to be dangerous. Just enough to flash a ROM improperly or load up their phone with a hundred apps and then complain when their phone becomes unstable. They get frustrated and do things like throw their phones in the air when they have no one but themselves to blame.
Advanced users, I think, like the 6800 because of its work-horse reputation, functionality, and its modability. Advanced users know how to keep their phones trim and fit and in good shape so that it doesn't crash all the time. They know how to mange their ROM and use the phone with as great efficiency as possible.
Pushers like to push the boundaries of the phone world. They are not happy unless they have the latest and greatest of everything. Latest features....latest hardware....latest software. Pushers will hate the 6800, just as they will, frankly, end up hating anything that was released more than 3 months ago. Why? Because vy then the next latest and greatest gadget is released and, by God, they have to have it!
I LOVE my 6800. It does almost everything I could ask of it. The only thing it really lacks, IMO, is a g-sensor, and so far other than the cute use as a bubble level for handyman work, all of the g-sensor stuff seems to fit in the amusing pout pointless category.
People are constantly amazed at what my 6800 can do. I have had iphone users, even after the app store opened, literally downtrodden after everything they showed me they could do I could do and then I went on and did about a dozen things they could not do.
I have complete voice navigation and gps. I have finger friendly and flick friendly apps up the ying-yang. I get the full web experience and can view streaming videos and flash and you tube on the net.
I have voice activation. I have weather. I have swappable memory (try that iphone freaks) and have every single song and most of my movie library on my phone. I recently took a 12 hour flight by myself in a jet that had a power outlet at every seat and I needed nothing with me but my phone to keep me not only out of boredom but actually entertained.
My 6800 is my office...anywhere I go. I can access my desktop at work remotely. I can not only view but create and edit Word and Excel docs. Need a quick deal memo during an important business meeting at lunch? I can take notes with my stylus BY HAND, then type them up into a Word Doc deal memo and email it to an office to have it printed. I can then run some figures in Pocket Excel to project the proceeds from the deal. All in the restaurant over lunch.
And I have yet to see ANY software keyboard come close to the hardware keyboard of the 6800. The iphone keyboard sucks. So does the diamond and the storm. They all suck...by definition. My hardware keyboard is large, usable with my big thumbs, and doesn't take up an inch of screen real estate. Can you say that of the iphone? The storm? The Touch?
I fully understand the RAM issue, but holy crud...just how many toys do you need running at the same time on your phone? I do plenty on the 6800 and I don't mind the RAM. Yeah, I suppose it could load in 2 seconds instead of 4. But who except a PUSHER would care?
Devin
Nicely put Devin! I don't think I love my Mogul quite as much as you, but it will do till significantly better hardware comes my way.
Some people take this hobby a bit to seriously. others, apparently need anger management counseling. in the end, it's just another PPC. an I bet the OP is just eating all this attention up. reminds me of my over spoiled girlfriends kids. wannna just whack em with a newspaper! heh. So, first off, wasn't talking to you. secondly, I think i'm allowed to post my thoughts and feelings. so, continue on with your so called, nerd jousting. dad will just close the bedroom door while sparky plays big boy on the computer.
It's crazy. The phone is great, it's what I've wanted for years. I got it just today and besides having to get used to the on-screen keyboard I must say it is the best phone I have ever used.
The Rhodium, in retrospect, was a clunky machine, and one of the best windows had to offer. This late in the game though, just an antiquated OS. I am so happy to be done with a Windows.
Why the thread?
Do you, geeks that we are, find no one in your immediate circle who understands?
I got home and am soooo satisfied win my decision, no longer having to tinker and be OCD, I know, not very geeky. Just I think I have been spending a bit to much time modifying and not enjoying my phone. I also didn't want be in he hands of Steve and the fruit phone.
Any similar stories...
Mine stopped vibrating after 5 seconds, apart from that great phone.
Quick tip: Setup haptic feedback on the keyboard if you haven't already. It truly makes a touchscreen keyboard 5x easier to use/learn.
I'm basing my opinion on haptic with the N1 vs. non-haptic w/ my iTouch. It's nice to have "something" that tells you that you just pressed something.
Also, learn to use the auto-correct. Especially holding down new words/names that it normally "tries" to auto-correct. (Such as "app(s), Haha, and various others that the phone tries to correct to really odd words) (Haha, will default to BAHAMAS!!!... WTF?)
Just thought I'd try to be useful
I know exactly what you mean... I got a TyTN II and the first thing I did was flash a custom ROM so it would actually be useable... then, after about 6 months, I found out I could run Android on it... really well! After a couple months of looking at it, I finally took the plunge to see what Android was all about, not thinking I would be blown away, especially considering I was running it on a WM device.
What did I discover? Android ran better on my Kaiser than WM did! I was hooked, and a couple months later got myself a G1 to replace the Kaiser... The G1 still had some issues, IMO, in terms of speed and found myself still flashing customer ROMs, but it wasn't out of total neccesity at least.. and now, I have a Nexus One, which is hands down the best phone I have ever experienced! I don't even feel like it is needed to put a custom ROM on it, I have and will again, but the stock experience is more than fulfilling!
Mate, I get the exact same feeling.. No one really "gets" me when it comes to this phone.
It's just a phone they say, what does it do that your HTC Diamond doesn't? Seriously.. the only thing I can come up with, is it has a flash.. But we know it's so much more than that, don't we?
I've already been told by a few people; "oh don't buy googles first phone, it'll have lots of bugs, you should wait till the second release." Little do they know nor understand.
First moment I got my Diamond I flashed it because it had too much carrier crap on it. Who wants everything to be customized by someone else.. Seriously..
*Eagerly awaiting my new shiny phone*
I was quite surprised by no real bugs to be seen or heard of myself. I was wary of the purchase, but easily the best one I ever decided upon.
I'm still trying to see if the great developer folks figure out a re-lock... But every day I'm considering rooting... Ugh!
I can connect to my home PC (Edit: from anywhere with 3G) and mouse and keyboard around on it using the Remote RDP program for Android. I find this impresses people fairly well.
I'm fine with using Gmote for free to pull any music/video to my phone... Still haven't hopped onto the paid apps bandwagon yet. Still working my way through the free apps, to get a grasp on what I like, and don't like.
But, it would be nice to have even more control remotely. I'm just staying in minimal-mode for a bit.
I'm surrounded by iPhone and BB users, most of which are completely, utterly technologically illiterate--I'm talking about people who don't even understand processor speeds/RAM size, so they can't even appreciate how fast the Snapdragon is. People who aren't users of either want one. "Android" is like Greek to them.
I do know a few geeky people, but they're rare around here. :/

I did the exact same thing man. I had the first gen iPhone for about a month, hated it. Then got the AT&T tilt, and flashed a custom rom on it. I worked at T-Mobile, and my co-workers would say, I should just go work for at&t lol, then I finally got the G1 a week before launch and fell in love with android. Its the best OS I could have asked for and knew it would be a winner. Then up until 2 days ago, I finally received the nexus one and WOW, it is so much faster, i'm still shocked. I haven't rooted or installed a new rom because I don't think it needs it. It runs great stock. Awesome phone, that I think only us xda nerds know how to appreciate. It really a great device upgrade for those of us who had stuck with the G1 for so long.
Nice feedback
I made a thread saying why I moved in the Rhodium forum and should have known better. I just wanted to share. They are letting me have it.
But it is so true, this device is a great medium. Customizable, elegant, powerful, what more could we ask for(lets further he Convo)?
Glad you guys love it. I'm looking forward to getting one for my wifey while I get the HD2.
Well then she can hang with the best and you can hang with the rest
I tend to explain the phone as "a netbook with a phone feature that fits in you hand." The specs truly are that of a netbook.

Exactly! It is a great device with great specs...
No question... the N1 is the best phone I've had.
Love my G1 and still use it but my N1 is my dress to impress phone...
Agreed.
Noone has a clue enough to appreciate it.
Unlike the iPhone it doesnt have a hype machine to make people desire it.
For selfish reasons I dont want too many people having them. Id prefer everyone knowing about and wanting one..but few actually having it.

Haha! Amen to that!
I see everyone drooling over the Nexus One all 'round.
But when it comes to their next phone, most of the techno-illiterati
will plump for a BB or an iPhone.
And that, in my book, is as it should be
This phone is for true connoisseurs.

You guys know that's how we all felt when we got our Wizards and Hermes right. It's a great feeling that comes when a phone is done right.

Why you hatin on me galaxys? I love the features of this phone but enjoy WM also. Can't I have more than one woman?

OK, that's cool More than one woman and device has also been an obsession of mine as well
I have read so many complaints and rants and raves. But all in all have seen most of them fixed with roms and kernels. This is a pretty pointless post but I just wanted to see one with people that are happy with their evos. I got mine at bb on launch day and still rocking it.
Sent from my Evo using XDA app.
Happy? I just proposed to my Evo.
Although nothing will beat my first phone (Sanyo VM4500)...the EVO is the 2nd best phone I have owned
++ I got mine on day one. Just did OTA updates and turn off all radios until I need them. I can go 3 days before a recharge with moderate surfing, texting, and phone usage. I read XDA forums mostly to understand how the phone works and how to avoid problems, but I think the stock EVO used sensibly, just plain rocks.
I'm not one of those who walks down the street with my phone in my face, nor do i walk through the mall with it glued to my ear, nor do i care about email push. I can understand how battery life is an issue for some, but for a dinosaur like me, it's the best Smartphone I've ever used. In fact, when you think about it, it's actually more powerful and capable than the Win 98 computers we were using just 10 years ago!
Android is a great os if:
You are a min / maxer and can take things into your own hand with root and custom roms.
The issue comes when you are not willing to do the above but still expect certain things out of the box.
The average mindless cow with little clue will do just fine with any os.

I agree that unfortunately this device does not come out of the box set up well for the average "phone" user. Getting the most out of the EVO or Android in general is not for the faint of heart or impatient (or stupid) people.
That said, I too am almost ready to propose to this phone. Two more paychecks and I can afford the diamond crusted engagement case I have on lay-away (that was a joke..)
I would say best phone ever but to be honest I don't think of the evo as a phone, at all. It is truly a pocket sized computer that comes with a phone and is sold by a phone company. It's nothing short of revolutionary.
I got mine launch day from Best Buy too, been loving it, no root or nothing and no problems.
If you use the evo stock, you don't have problems, just battery, but if you root the phone, the problems start!
Sent from my EVO!
I got mine from launch day, been loving this phone already. I've rooted and don't see much problem at all. I think if you know what to do after rooting then most problem.can ne resolve easily.
I've tested so many rom and still can't find much problem at all.
This indeed the best phone i've own.

I'm still using stock from the day I bought it, the 2nd week it came out with all the OTA updates. No root, yet! I get 14 - 18 hours per charge with pretty heavy usage. People just need to read and tweak.
I love my Evo and my girlfriend loves it when I bring it to bed with us.

Just? Dude, we've been happily married since launch
I just started a similar thread before reading your thread.
I'm rooted, running baked snacks 9.6 (the latest was slow) with the netarchy-toastmod FPS fix and overclocked with setcpu. I leave gps, wifi, and 4g on continuously just because I can (I rarely get 4g reception in San Marcos TX). Last night I didn't even charge the phone and I still had 50% battery life when I woke up. I get 55 frames per second consistently (stdv 5-6), and 5-point multitouch (I can play 5-note chords on piano app). It is blazingly smooth and fast. I spent hours downloading apps... probably have like 70 by now and it's still incredibly fast.
I love how I can just go to Google Nav and say my location and it understands me, and loads the destination onto the gps. In fact many apps I can just talk right into the phone and it just translates it.
I completely customized the home screen. It's pretty much my dream phone post XDA help. I have yet to find a single flaw. And it was a lot of fun learning how to root, flash roms, install kernels, and customize. It's like building your own PC and tweaking it to perfection. But then again I like projects and customization so the android community and xda community is definitely the place for me. The developers here are so awesome.
The difference between the EVO out of the box and the EVO in my hands is so large it may as well be called a different phone and it's all thanks to open source, sharing community.
I guess it's obvious I've become an EVO junkie by now. Iphone's are smooth out of the box, but so boring. What's to play with?
I compare the iphone to an xbox360 and an EVO to a PC computer. The former works out of the box (mostly) but you are limited to a closed system. The PC can be endlessly tweaked and customized.
Anyway, cheers!
The Evo is a great phone, and a great development tool.
I have had mine sine i/o, and my network is big red. It's created quite a powerful duo for me. No 4g, but I don't really care about that. I don't even think it's in my area, but I'm not even about to map check it.
This phone has allowed me to get back into android programming etc without hassles, and I've been doing more and more things every day. I look forward to being able to release roms, themes, etc as well, once I get the hiccups polished out
As for the Evo, really, if it wern't for the XDA community, I don't think it would get as much play. I know I would have ditched the phone has it been a case of the Droid X, etc. It came down to the wire, and the Droid X was just days away. I made the choice to stick w/ the Evo, and stay far away from the Milestone boot loader.
I have the Evo to thank for a renewed interest in mobile technology and programming that I have not had, since the Touch Pro 1 days.

What did it take to change the MEID to make it work? I have a DroidX and hate it, I figure I can get a cheap Vz phone and port the MEID if I can find the tools.
Any way, good choice to stick with the Evo, I keep hoping to get one but Sprint sucks where I am at.

I didn't go that route.
You can still manage to make things happen if you bash your head against a wall long enough, and talk to a million different people.
But don't forget. You get no insurance, no support, no anything. They provide the service to you, that's it. Provisioning works with *228, no hassles, but the initial work has to be done by you. Pre-programming, setting up the intricate details and whatnots.
Side note: Why do you hate the Droid X?

If Vz won't accept Sprint phones then how did you get it to work?
And sorry I didn't see until recently that MEID thing was illegal, I actually cam back to delete it but I guess I am too late...
Physical buttons are my #1 peeve I despise the ones on the front and I constantly hit the camera button on the side.
I should not EVER have to hear a button click to press and the pressure it takes to push them could be measured foot pounds plus I have big fingers and always hit 2 at a time.
- There are no words to explain how much I hate physical keys, it takes all caps and vulgarity, you get the idea.
Also coming from an iPhone with great asian support built in, including hand writing, this has none and even on the market the apps to replace it suck (I am being generous here.) I used it daily on my iPhone.
No front camera.
When I turn on Wi-Fi my bars drop in half.
Motoblur ... yuck
Ok I'm looking for some honest information without all the flaming n name calling so please be kind in ur responses.
I'm thinking about getting the iPhone bc I'm getting fed up with androids issues, I love Android to death, I've owned the mytouch 3g, Droid2 and now the EVO but I need a phone more stable without all the tweaking n modding to get things to work the way I need them to. Android has major battery problems n the only way to fix it is to buy more and/or bigger batteries, a lot of newer phones have gps n signal issues like the e4t and I just think Android has some kinks it needs to work out before they get to be reliable without having to root n flash roms, overclock etc. What I'm asking is for honest opinions on if I should step over to Apple for a year or so til Android gets there issues more worked out or just stick with this n wait?

Sh*t, I just noticed I put this in the dev section. Can someone please move it to the right section, I would but I don't know how

Peace out.!!!!! Android rules!!!! Have fun with your apple......
If you really want to switch to the iphone, then go for it. Both Android and iOS have their problems. When Sprint got the iphone 4S, I thought about switching to it. But then I played with one in the store and was shocked at how tiny the screen was, and how awful it felt to hold in my hand. I live in Minnesota, so having the front and back made out of glass (along with the sides being metal) is a big downside because the device gets really cold in the winter. Plus I don't like the idea of having to sync the device to a computer. A phone should be able to be a stand-alone device.
On the flipside, my father hated his HTC Hero and switched to the iphone 4S a few months back. He's not really a techy guy, and he loves his iphone. The only downside is that the iphone 4s also has battery life problems, so I am not sure if you can escape that problem. In the end, it kind of comes down to a personal preference between the 2 OS choices. Both are matured enough that there doesn't appear to be a clear and obvious winner at this point in time.

I think the first two paragraphs of this criticism of Siri sum up how I view Apple products in general. I prefer control and Android. And more $$ in my pocket.
I use my Epic for work and play. No way I could use an iPhone for the work part of the equation!
I don't like the way Apple makes you use iTunes for everything. Just let me drop and drag files and sync my contacts and data wirelessly.

Well, be my guest!!! I told a friend of mines "lets do a contest to download an entire album in the queickest time" He said "well is gonna cost me $12.00 on Itunes" on my EVO using Download and music search app, was free and with 4G at 9mbps it took me 7 minutes to have al 13 songs.
I phones are for nerds.
Id rather run naked, soaked in lemon juice and run through a football field size garden of roses than to use one of those funny iphone devices.
i switched to the iphone as well after deving some alphas for my evo that im going to make public soon i love android and i miss it a bit after 11 days with the iphone and 8 with the galxy s2 i see that ios is much more stable then android as its closed source and kept maintained and updated regularly by apple and the response and structure of the system is much more organized then that of android but i miss my open source allot i miss the apps and the roms and flashing and deving! i hate waiting so damn long for a god dang jailbreak !!! thats so hard to crack it takes teams to find and xploite its really agonizing to own a iphone 4s but if ur up to it u can stand the wait and the lack of change of roms and ios is lovely
Go get an iPhone, use it for a few weeks and see if you like it
i definitely would tell you DONT... but it aint for me, so what i care...
it must fit what you NEED it to do
So you've done some developing on Android, but are attracted to the ‘closed source' nature of apple? Did you not take your meds today? schizophrenics on xda, I guess I can't imagine your poor head.

Careful with the iphone...
Apple may file a lawsuit against you for infringing on their patents.
They sue everyone else anyways.
I hate my iphone for sooooo many reasons.
A dev trying to switching to iphone and asking opinions? Go ahead, at least I can carry an extra battery with me for heavy usage. The openess of Android has smitten me. Can't imagine a closed system where Steve is my big brother, wanting me to be a slave of their system.

That's what I was thinking of doing but won't I have to pay some return fee it I try to get a refund on it?
I'm really feeling torn here lol. Like trying to decide to get a house thats not too fancy inside but eveything u can think of but charges u to use anything inside it, or getting a house that has fancy futuristic stuff Inside it but it doesn't work all the time n something might need replacing due to faulty wiring... Idk I just know my EVO isn't going to last much longer bc I need a phone that can last a good 9 hours n actually let me use it without watching the battery go down like the gas Guage on an old truck.

I tinker too much to like the iPhone. Custom kernels, ROMs, etc. Then again I would probably sleep more if I had an iPhone ...
I can easily get 9 hours. Im not a heavy user most of the time, for example I am on 22% and I took it off the charger, probably 50 hours ago, but I havent been doing too much, 5-20 min convo's here and there, playing around with a few apps, streams a bit of music while driving into the city, a hundred txts or so. I have easily been talking on the phone for 6 hours straight and only lost 15-20%. Pretty recently, but I am also running ASOP.

No u have 14 or 30 days to try it and swap or return it idk if sprint made the change from 30 to 14 days yet so check when u buy
Edit: and all u need for your evo is a new battery if yours is draining that fast its because it is old and has lost its spunk, u can buy a 3500 or on eBay you can get 3 1800mah slims for about 20$ with an external charger much cheaper than buying an iPhone that wont do anything you really want and wont let u use anything for work if your work uses windows cuz iPhone wont let u do anything related to Microsoft except check your email
I loved my iphone. But regretfully switched back to the evo due to financial reasons (ie: selling the iphone) if you're interested in getting one used I have listing on ebay for a 16gb. Look for the one in a lifeproof case
