HTC Sense frozen using Titanium Backup - EVO 4G General

Hi all,
I was going through on Titanium backup and my 6 month old managed to "help" me freeze HTC's Sense... ("bad baby!" to which she just laughed) and that kind of leaves me in a bind, as far as I can tell. Is the best option to just restore from a prior backup from Clockwork Mod?
I appreciate everyone's help.

Can't you just thaw it? I've frozen and thawed apps but never a launcher.

I could, but... my daughter has fast little baby hands that hit the home key. Which takes you to a void... Its actually kind of weird. No amount of button pushing, etc will coax the phone out of its stupor.

Fixed... Did a restore from Nandroid, all works again. Only issue is the back up is a month old...

[Q] Stupid question: Backing up Angry Birds?

Hey everyone,
This is a very stupid question but nonetheless, was wondering if there is any way to backup the saves for my Angry Birds game. I am running Fission 1.21 and wanna update to 2.1, but I have taken my sweet ass time to 3 star basically every level on that game and I would much rather not have to do it again... SOOOOO, any way to back up the data so I don't lose the save as I wipe everything in my phone when installing the new stuff?
Thanks in advance
You can use Titanium backup to be absolutely sure. but to be honest you should have no issues keeping the data. I have no trouble with my saved data on it restoring once you've flashed a new rom.

I am worried because I backed up with Appmonster last time and it didn't keep the saves at all. Just wanting to be sure.

Just curious, are you rooted?

a theory I would like some experts to chime in on

I have a theory that Ti Backup or any backing up of apps to save re-installing time when changing to a new ROM is a bad plan. I know you can do it no problem, and that it is a great time saver, but I have a strong feeling that this ultimately results in an unstable phone with mysterious force closes etc.
Even though it's a real pain, I think you are always better off reinstalling your apps from scratch after changing to a new ROM and wiping caches.
what say you?

I'm no expert, but I agree with you. I have love TiBa, but I haven't ever batch restored all my apps/data at once. I've used it very selectively and never had a problem. I also use it for some of the other options it has... like detaching apps from "my apps" in the Market, for instance. But overall, yes, I think you're right, and it seems like common sense. For me, the point of using TiBa to create complete backups is simply to know that I have them, just in case... this is just my experience, of course...
I use my backup root... Works quite well, but i do not restore any apps which need superuser or something like that. You can handle the force close by fixing permission after restoring apps... But yeah a fresh install seems to be better

I make backups of apps with Ti but only use it reinstall selected app data if necessary.
Made the noob mistake of restoring system data once but live and learn.

Reinstalling your apps + data is not the problem. it's reinstalling system data that is the culprit. part of going into a new rom is that the system is set up differently. It is fine if you just restore the apps if they're all functioning normally.
You actually can also filter your batch operations so that you can install specific files and also have it back those files up on a schedule (daily/weekly/monthly/cyclic/etc).
TLDR: reinstalling apps + data is not bad. Reinstalling system data is bad.

Obviously, restoring system data across ROMs is just plain wrong, but even restoring user app/data can be problematic. Just recently I read a post from a user who was regularly restoring user apps/data after ROM updates... the person started experiencing minor glitches with their device, performed a factory reset, re flashed, reinstalled everything from scratch, and the issues resolved themselves... I can't count the times I've read posts like this. Of course, these same users got along just fine for a time before the problems developed, so I agree with you when you said restoring user apps/data is "not bad." But over time, it might not be good either.

Calling it a theory would imply that you are going to present some evidence supporting it, which you have not. No evidence, its just a hypothesis.
Well obviously by copying data back and forth regularly you increase the potential for corruption etc to occur, whatever the cause. Is that not just a given? But unless you're doing it an unnecessary amount of times I shouldn't think you would run into noticeable trouble.
I always sucessfully batch restore my apps and app data (with Titanium Backup Pro) after a format of system and never have run into any issues.

I have been doing this since the old winmo days and have not had a single problem with it. There's a reason you do multiple copies which makes life a little easier.
I personally have not had any problems over the past 4 years of using titanium across winmo to android. So I disagree with the OP's theory. Backing up app/data wont make it go bad over time. It's not a consumable so it doesn't matter how many times you back it up or over how many years you do. if you keep your app updated and you back it up, it wont go bad over time.

As I said, I've never had an issue using it selectively, but I was hesitant to rely on it too heavily. I need to bear in mind that for every user who reports a problem, there are usually many more that get along just fine. Thanks for the input.

Zero problems here..in fact it has fixed problems for me in the past I love TB
the point is that backed up apps and data don't just go bad over time. There's a reason why you make multiple back ups.
At the end of the day, fresh > backup
Unless you have important or critical data, then backup>fresh. I have clients cry because they didn't have a backup at home or on their phone...just saying, grown men and women crying because they never thought about spending some cash for peace of mind. My backups on my phone and home network have come in handy multiple times! Backups to me are indispensible...
I use mybackup pro.

On the other hand its fun just to back up the apks of stuff you like on your cpu, so you can make a new phone experience when you make a big change--say by using a dif combo of apps/themes.

Titanium backup question

So I think I'm moving to the Sensation after some major issues with the Glacier. (I sure got T Mobile's attention. That's for sure. They actually offered me an Amaze as a free replacement. But it's just too big in my hand and pocket.)
Anywho....can I backup my Glacier apps and data with Titanium Backup and reinstall them to a Sensation? Or will it make everything screwball?
It's more the data within the apps that I don't want to lose. Not to mention all the settings for various apps that I don't feel like spending 9 hours pouring through to get it all back to the way I like it.
I can live with redownloading all the apps from the Market if I have to. But I'd like to know if I can use Titanium to at least reinstall all the data.
(If I have to beat certain Angry Birds levels again.....those green pigs are going to die)
It's apps like Jorte Calendar that I've spent hours tweaking the color schemes on that I don't want to lose. And for some reason Jorte doesn't have a 'save settings to file" option like Go SMS does.

lol the Sensation looks really nice! i really want one...
and to answer your question, yes you can. i've tried moving app data from one phone to another (both androids, two completely different brands) using TitaniumBackup, everything was fine
Well that's a load off my mind!
Tb only works with rooted devices just a heads up.

Yeah...the Sensation will barely be warmed up before I have it rooted. I assure you.
I've moved app data from the HTC Thunderbolt to the HTC Rezound with no problems. Of course make sure not to include system data just apps and app data.
Im sure a few apps may cause problems but its rare. I would do it in sections and make a nandroid backup maybe a third of the way or halfway so if there's a problem you won't have to start all the way over.

[Q] [Noob Q]Extract a nandroid?

I recently had to get a replacement Evo because my old one did some crazy stuff, and I was reading that it isn't a good idea to restore backups across devices. But I was wondering if I could extract the backups made, gather what I need (mainly I just want my sms history) and put it in the appropriate spot on the new phone. (same ROM obviously). Is this doable? (or am I actually safe restoring the nandroid, save for wimax obviosuly)
This is the exact same model, and as far as I know same hardware revision (I'll know when it arrives).

There's an app in the market called appextractor. This app will allow you to restore sms, mms, apk's, wifi settings, and much more from a nandroid backup. I really suggest buying it to show your appreciation to the developer.

Big thanks to you for this, I'm a little paranoid about these things seeing how I almost had to pay the $100 deductable since Sprint found out I'd rooted. (got the "if you root again we'll mark it as such" speech, which just says to me "go somewhere else if your phone breaks")
edit: will it work with a TWRP nandroid though?
Get away from TWRP
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Yes, I know that, but my last nandroid is a TWRP. Is there any way to get the data from it, or would I have to re-flash it long enough to do a restore before switching back to Amon? (reading the description of the app bigshortob22 linked, it appears it'll only work with .img files and CWM)

I had downloaded titanium back up several times but never understood what it did. I finally just realized how it works and how to use it. I will never go without it again.

TB is amazing, I gladly paid for the full version of it. Between it, Gmail, and Dropbox, everything valuable on my phone is always backed up.
Also being able to remove any unwanted stock programs is a plus.
sounds like the story of xda, I'm not saying you have asked what it did on here before BUT if you did I am sure you got flamed which is crap. Congrats, fantastic program! And very much worth the money!
Get the pro version. Definitely worth it.

I find TiBu to be a lifesaver when I'm playing around with custom ROM's. That combined with Apex Launcher's backup abilities makes it so that I can basically switch ROM's and restore my apps and home screen to the same appearance I had before.
