When in the clockwork recovery app, and you select backup rom it reboots into recovery mode and does a backup. This is the same as booting into cw recovery and creating a backup correct. Just a UI type way to create a nandroid?
Its pretty much recommended that you avoid doing backups thru the app, best to boot into recovery and just do it from there takes an extra minute but much safer and consistent
Makes sense ty!

Hello
What is a nandroid backup? How do i do a nandroid backup? I have a nexus one flashed CM 6.00 RC2
Thanks in advance
basically a nandroid is a image of your phone, like a backup in windows, when you restore a nandroid it puts your phone back how it was when you made it, with data and apps and everything.
well, first you gotta boot into recovery.
which did you install? Clockwork or Amon_Ra? Not that they are that different
Then go to backup/restore and select nandroid backup then restore it whenevery your phone/rom is not working correct.
I installed ROM manager and flashed the clockwork mod. In the ROM manager do i enter recovery mode?

Click to collapse
You can, or you can select backup current rom in rom manager
Sorry for the noob question.. I just rooted my phone and still learning the lingo. I just did a backup by opening up ROM Manager and choosing its option to backup. It went into Clockwork Recovery, which looks similar to a Nandroid backup. Are they different?
I believe they are the same thing. I use Rom Manager as well.
Yes Rom Manager simply drops down into Recovery and performs the Nandroid Backup/Restore.
I prefer to restore directly from Recovery using Rom Manager. Boot to Recovery just to insure there isn't a way for Rom Manager to glitch during the restore. Its glitched on me once personally, but once was enough for me to say I 100% trust the backup, but I'll drop down into Recovery and restore my own.
Great app
Hi all. Just wondering, I just made a backup via cwm recovery. So do I have to flash the original main Rom first then flash the backup or I do not need to flash the main Rom at all? Thanks in advance!
simply go in recovery to backup/restore, select restore and you are set. CWM backs up everything including rom boot sdext etc
I am a bit confused with the restore option on a rooted device. The Clockworkmod has a restore option, but the developer of Clockwormod also point to Acer Recovery Installer APP.
Why is that? If I can use Clockwormod to restore, what is the need of a seperate program? I am sure that i am missing something, else there would not be a reference in the Clockworkmod to the recovery installer.
Besides these 2 restores, there are also programs like Titanium restore. Is that just a restore option on top of the above 2 options? In that Titanium lets you select individual apps.
These are probably a bit noob questions but I just rooted today and cant figure this out.
Acer Recovery Installer App: Installs Clockworkmod recovery and can do a backup/restore of the old image.
Clockwormod: Backs up all the other images (the ones that hold the OS info,...)
Titanium backup: Backs up apps and their data.
Hello,
before I played around with getting root and flashing custom roms, I backup everything in Samsung Smart Switch.
After getting root and install TWRP, I backup the whole system (except the recovery partition) to the external sd-card from TWRP.
Now - after getting some experience with custom roms - I will go back to the stock rom from my TWRP-Backup. Set everything to factory default, wipe cache and dalvik and press restore. Select my backup... swipe to flash... everything seems ok. After reboot - no bootloop - a thousands of alert-messages pops up "blabla-app stopped"... Then appears only a black screen.
How can i restore my backup from TWRP? Or is there a stock-rom, so i can backup from smart switch? My System is a LRX21T.G900FXXU1BOJ1
Thanks alot!
Try clearing the caches from recovery and boot again
If it fails, try wiping everything again, then restore all partitions except DATA
See if it boots
If it boots - either reinstall apps etc manually, or use TiBu to restore the DATA partition
I've got it!
I flashed a stock rom with odin and restore with smart switch. Some settings are missing, but i think 90% is restored
Nice job
