[Q] [q] Changing email acount! - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

after being fed up with marketplace being unavailable in greece, i decided to ccreate a US hotmail to use with my phone. thing is, although i got the phone to synchronise pretty much everything from my primary hotmail account, xbox live still syncs with the new one. so, is there a way to change the e-mail from which the phone gets its xbox live info from? i dunno, from the registry or something?? and on a completely different subject, since i reinstalled wp7 is there a way to batch install all my XAPs? thanks in advance!

How Does The Navigator Work In Norway

any norwegians who have unlocked the phone, can you tell me what is not good with the phone, except from the MMS not working yet. Anyone found a solution to the problem. I have a Chess service myself. I also wonder how I can get all my contacts from Outlook/my htc touch cruise to the G1 phone. Anyone solved this. What about connection the thing to my hotmail account. On my HTC touch cruise this is very simple.
Is the phone worth the money??? Looking forward to hear from you.
Best regards
Morten
Howdy
Cons:
Battery life
No decent IM app yet
Screen gets greasy fast
MMS is working if your provider supports having all the information in one single APN settings file. I am not sure if Chess supports this or not.
If you haven't already, get a decent data plan. That is one of the things I am struggeling to find in Norway, espescially on Telenor. You could get Mobilt Bredbånd, but to a price of 499,- NOK for unlimited, it isn't so tempting anymore. The only option I see is the iPhone bundle that Netcom have, but I want to use Telenor, so I am ****ed.
The easiest way I found to do this, is to download a program called KiGoo. This enables you to have a folder in Outlook that is basically your Google Contacts or your Google Calendar. I just synced all my Contacts from my Nokia E65 to Outlook, and then just copied them from the Outlook folder to the KiGoo folder. It worked pretty good, and almost all details got copied (Names, all phone number, e-mails and all important stuff is copied, and remains in the correct fields as well, unlike the Funambol Android Client, which puts commas in the Last Name field if there isn't anything there), and is the best solution I have tried so far. And believe me, I've tried LOTS of things.
It seems that .csv exporting from Outlook don't work, since Outlook uses Norwegian in to describe the values, which Gmail obviously don't understand.
I wouldn't have my hopes up for the Hotmail thing.
I haven't used hotmail since I was 12, but back then you had to have Hotmail Plus to be able to access your mail via POP3 or anything other than Webmail and the Live Client for windows. The only solution would have to be to forward all incoming mail to your Gmail account, and I don't know if hotmail supports that with out Plus.
You can access your Hotmail account through the browser, but it is only retarded, the Live page isn't optimized for mobile use, and it would just get annoying after a short while.
I would just change my email to gmail, which in my opinion is superior anyways
You can still use your Live ID on MSN so that is no big deal really.
Hope this sorted out some issues for you

HEi i need hellp
Dos any1 knows if the G1 haz a norwegian t9 ?how do u manage to write sms with it ? since he dosent have the æøå
Please do some reading on the forum...
The handset has a full qwerty keyboard, why would there be a problem writing SMS? You get all special characters holding the corresponding key.(a=å, o=ø etc..)

Exchange on the Hero, first impressions

I've noticed that not has much been said on the Hero's exchange support in any of the reviews or user reports so I thought I'd let people know what it's like as, for me, this is a must have feature. I should say that I have not had an android phone before and so I have had no experience with Nitrodesk's exchange solution so I can't compare.
Well, I entered my exchange details during initial set-up and after my first attempt was unsuccessful (SSL needed and is off by default) it than worked. Asked me if I wanted to sync Mail, Calender and Contacts all of which I selected. After the rest of the setup had finished the phone told me I had a new e-mail arrive so I could tell it was working straight away.
Mail is fantastic. Downloads everything fine, has at least as many options as WM for choosing which messages to download. E-mails look great on the display and html e-mails show up fine.
Contacts are great, they all appear straight away in the people and the phone application. All the Facebook and Flikr integration works perfectly. Only niggle is that you can't group contacts by company which is something I used to do on WM.
Calender seems to work fine. Appointments showed up ok, including appointments sent by e-mail.
All in all, the exchange sync is way better than expected and in some ways better than WM. The integration seems very deep and integral to the OS rather than a bolt on feature.
I agree with you there Bud, just a shame that there is no task sync support yet - still looking
All was fine for me, but as soon as I've allowed it to connect my contacts to FB contacts, sync fails for conacts with a 'client/server conversion error' message.
I'm using exchange 2003, mail and calendar are syncing fine, and I too would love tasks to be added, along with a fix for contacts and I'm a happy hero user
Strange - I have had no issues with the Fb sync but i use Exchange 07
Just Exchange, or...
...also Outlook?
not tried to sync with outlook yet, whats the best app for that?
I would settle for an outlook connector that I could just set to sync contacts and tasks, as these two arent really changing so frequently I wouldnt mind having to 'plug in' to sync these.
I just use exchange so can't comment on outlook sync. Facebook linking worked fine for me but I also have exchange 2007 so can only assume it's a problem there. Not sure if the exchange functionality is all implemented by HTC or whether they've used part of Nitrodesk's Touchdown but I saw on the Nitrodesk website that they don't support exchange 2003 yet.

The only app is HTC sync which is included along with the hero's manual on the sd card supplied with your phonbe, word of warning i just installed htc sync on my vista pc and it caused windows explorer to continuously crash until i uninstalled it, not impressed
Tried to install the app ealier, drivers failed and the app wont work (win 7 32 bit)
Going to try the long way round for now - sync outlook contacts to my google account and keep the google contacts synced to my phone - would I end up with a duplicate of everyone then though?

I, like you (not I like you!), have synced up this way. I too cannot get HTC sync to work. I am sure Orange have bundled the wrong version.
So, I export Outlook to a file, then import contact file to google cal, then sync gcalendar to hero. Job done.
No duplicates, google calendar seems intelligent enough to recognise the dups
I would like to share my experience
Booted up.... would you like to set up exchange?
HELL YES!!!!
enter the details..... (internet accessible exchange server)
<entered>
What you wanna sync my boy?
EVERY GOD DAMN THING
oooooook here we go.......
<done.>
Sweet!
Thinking about an Adriod as my next phone, since I think WM is really falling behind everyone else! I use it mostly for work so a couple of questions if you don't mind....
No tasks syncing so far?
How does the calander work, are the views easy to see, day and week stuff?
Meeting requests work?
Can you flag email messages? This is a must for me and I hate that WM 6.5 can't even do it!
How do you find the keyboard replying to emails?
Can you open Word, Excel, PDF files?
Any other features it has for work that WM doesn't?
Thanks
Exchange
I'm having probs with exchange.
It will only sync my main inbox, not any of the subfolders I have, and will only sync via mobile network - fails on wifi ? ?
Then again can't get ANY web stuff on wifi ? ?
Word and excel fully creatable and editable with Docs to Go, and Open Office I think does let you read different docs though not sure which. Best PDF Reader seems to be RepliGo Reader which is good for books as well.
I'm only just getting to grips with Google Calendar but seems to have a great deal of flexibility for appts and stuff.
Widgets really just getting going, so I'm not sure of all those available...
Daisy - Magic owner, so Hero may be slightly different xx

I have reiceved my G2 touch and havn't been able to setup exchange sync over the air. It goes past first option i.e. to show me what i want to synch mail, contacts, calendar and than when I click on finish setup it fails with message unable to create account try later! Any idea what is going wrong. How can I fix it?
Sachin
Anyone have any experience with exchange sync where the server requires you to set a password/pincode for the phone?
Heard some people saying that this was not supported by the Hero. A pity if true, as I need this to work in order to be able to use the Hero as a work phone (in other words, if I am to buy a Hero).
The out of the box exchange support is really very good. It just needs the ability to authenticate via password or client certificate.
I much prefer it to WM, but only because its completely finger friendly.
Yes you can flag emails, and they show up under the flagged emails tab at the bottom.
I really really hope the update within 10 days or September will affect this thing? Need to be able to sync more than one folder at the time.

works for me on vista 64 with orange branded HTC Touch. I believe there is an update on the HTC website, not sure if that enables win7 support
I certainly didn't notice explorer crashing after I installed it, chances are it's another explorer extension interfering (either a media codec that is failing at showing thumbnails, or a right-click extension or similar)

The HD2 hotmail problem

First off all: I checked this website (heck! I checked half the internet) and I didn't find a solution to my problem.
Now, what is my problem?
When I first got the HD2 I really wanted to get my hotmail account on my phone.
Now there is a tab under email called "hotmail1".
I can't delete it (it's greyed out), I can't open it, I can't do anything with it!
I already read that unsyncing your windows live account with your emailaddress would help, but nothing. Also, when I want to make a new hotmail account it just transfers me to "windows.live.com"
(I also tried using a fake email and then changing it to hotmail afterwards, didnt help, I got transfered to windows.live.com)
sorry if some of the menunames are wrong, my phone is dutch
Hi
I have exactly the same problem but it doesnt look like other people have come across this problem to find a solution.
I have set up my phone exactly the way I like it, its working fantastic. I dont want to resort to a hard reset
Exactly!
I have all my programs, preferances and hotfixes in just the way I want them. I'd hate to do all that again just for hotmail.
I can't help you get rid of any dodgy accounts that you've already set up, but I can tell you how to set up a hotmail account correctly.
Run Windows Live in your start menu and enter your hotmail account details in there. That will automatically create an email account on the phone for you, and will even give you the ability of push email. It's pointless trying to manually set up a hotmail account, unless you want more than 1. If you do then you need to read tip #43 in this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
As for getting rid of the problematic accounts they you've already created, I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you rid yourselves of them
The funny thing is that trying to create a (new) account with windows live just redirects me to the mobile.live.com site
Yep, same problem here, just redirects to the website.
If I try to create another hotmail account with the same details, it wont allow me to saying ' you've got another email account with the same name'!!!!
Annoying!!
It is probably because you are using (or have used) My Phone or Windows Live on the phone to connect to hotmail.
The way I do it is through Windows Live. So go to Marketplace and make sure that you have the latest Windows live app, then sign in to your account from there.
Tried it and failed
Still a greyed out hotmail1 (non functional)
When I want to send a new message, I can only choose "add a new email address" or another emailaddress (my studentmail).
THat's probably not how it's called on the english rom, but it comes close to the dutch translation

I got mine fixed when i signed in on my computer's browser with my hotmail account. Then i tap send/receive on the phone and it connected to the server... not really sure if this is a fixed? but it did fix my gray thing.
Tried and failed
Still greyed out!
Is there a way to completely uninstall msn messenger on your mobile phone?
I hope that might work
If you set up your hotmail thru windows live, you have to change the setting thru windows live also. I had the same problem as you. I was not able to delete hotmail account thru the regular email setup. Then I remember windows live, so I went in there. I choose the option to switch to another windows live account. It will then asked for your credential. Hit cancel and voila.. my hotmail account is gone.
I had this too, I set up my hotmail account via the introduction screen when you boot your HD2 for the first time. Then, I tried to set up my hotmail via Windows Live. When syncing with my pc, which collects hotmail in Outlook, I got a third Hotmail account, all non-functional (actually only syncing via wifi actually, to make it weirder). I decided to hard reset.
The proper way to setup Hotmail is via the Windows Live application, you can't set it up via Outlook (mobile or from your pc). Ang_rudy's solution might work, the other solution is hard resetting, which is far from optimal of course.
can any1 help i have had the HD2 for 2 days, i havent been able to set up hotmail account, but i also cant access my facebook either. i really dnt want to take it back but i have got clue how to resolve these issues.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Please help!!
i have had my HD2 for 2 days now iv tried setting up my hotmail account, lmao it might aswell give me the big "FU" facebook doesnt work either just comes up with, "you need to connect to the internet" well ob not cause i can get into facebook through opera!!
can any1 help or will i get the same useless answers as i do from O2 " its a new phone we dnt how to fix these problems yet" my answer to that is dnt F sell to people then.
Thank god i kept my 3GS never had any problems with that

Some questions about WP7 on HD2 experience

Hi,
I want to get WP7 on my HD2. I'v read that there is no LIVE services unlesss you call MS to activate, which I understant not working very well these days...
What is missing with those live services?
If I don't have the marketplace, I understant that I can install XAPs via computer. Can I find any app as XAP? to what extent apps are eveilable as XAPs?
Thanks.
You can get every app out there, so Marketplace is not a must. If you live in an unsupported country that will be the only way to get paid apps anyway.
Hotmail can work without Live activation if you set it up manually. XBox Live is also not available although it's purpose is questionable
To put it short: WP7 is perfectly functioable without Live services. They are nice but not a must.
On another note: Try getting a key. Most ppl still get them easily.
It's true you don't need the activation services, but the operating system is much more fun and it backs your applications, calendar, emails etc.. up so you can easerly flash a new rom.
If you have a such easy possibility to get the key (you can either get it when you tell Microsoft that you have a HD2 but you have to catch a cool agent ) you should do it.
I have switched too and I am using it as OS now since a few months.
I don't want to live without my HD2/7.... ^^
Thanks guys!
Yes I live in an unsupported country (Israel), so it's comforting to hear that is not such a big deal (as I tought).
You said that LIVE is required for hotmail. I'm planning on setting the phone with both my work's Exchange, and Google Apps account, hopefully both with ActiveSync Push for Email\Contacts\Calendar, should I expect any problems with that?
I just tried setting up two exchange accounts (GMail and Hotmail) and they seem to be working alongside each other. Email, contacts and calendars sync.
Only tested for an hour or but so far so good.

[Q] Convince me to switch to Android!

Hello my friends. Thank you in advanced for any help/input you give.
Here's my thing.. I am an avid M$er (yes I know, but I get as much good from it as the bad). I'm a professional IT guy, and I run my home network on Enterprise lvl MS Server software and Windows on all PCs.
I have been using WinMo since the days of PPC, so I know the software. I decided to give WP7 a test run (even knowing the limitations) a couple months ago, and still am disappointed. Unfortunately I got stuck with it till now, because just after I installed it my personal Exchange server crashed. It's significant because it holds all of my contact info and schedule (for backup and retrieval when I change roms), so I had to wait till I had time and patience to recover the server and my database, which left me with my only current copy of info on the phone as it couldn't get pushed back to the server to store (I never put my info online so no uploading it wasn't an option for me).
Finally exchanger recovered, its time for me to be rid of this headache of a mobile OS and initially I was going to go back to my favorite HD2 WM6.5.3 rom, but when I finally visited the thread, I came back to realize my fav rom cooker is no longer developing for my device..
So I'm faced with the choices of still using the most current from my fav cooker, finding another WM cooker and get acquainted, or try out Android seriously for a little while at least (I've had it on SD from the beginning, but not definitively explored it).
My main thing is it has to connect to my servers. That's my bread and butter so to speak. I need it to connect to my Exchange and sync seamlessly contact and schedule (main things, but would definitely like as much sync as possible), but never upload my info to Google or anywhere else. So my first proviso is can it do that? (please remember I've never seriously explored Android for this intent), and can you provide info on it?
On remote desktopping and file sharing, like I said I have enterprise lvl servers so my network is high lvl security, can it connect to this kind of network (with certs from my CA)?
Third important thing to me, and one of the big reasons I dislike WP7, the interface. I'm in lust with HTC's sense from WM6.5 roms. Absolutely like it. Is there a way to at least mimic this sense? I've been missing the at-a-glance full screen weather updates soo much too.
Aside from those things, Android on HD2 already has a plus from me for having flash, my favorite IM program (Trillian), and the wifi calling (I live in an area where I don't get service till I'm miles from home).
So with those things in mind, can someone recommend Android to me, and possibly give me as much info as they can on the features that are most important to me? Again, I've played with Android, only a little (American Android currently), and mostly to help clients and friends out.
Thanks again for your help

Thank you PresidentMcCain that is very favorable info. So my question is now, if I set Exchange up as primary email, then add my google account, will it try to sync my exchange contacts with google?
Have you looked at Appbrain website - you can explore all the apps on the market with a good description.
Im new to android (from long standing 6.5 use) and im extremly impressed, using sd method so i can fall back on 6.5 if i need it (), but it wont be long before its ditched.
You can choose specifically what or what not to sync with Google the first time when you boot up the ROM or in the Settings.
Using the "Email" app will not sync with Google servers unless you choose to forward your mail to your Gmail account (duh).
Thanks again. So what about calendar and other info synced with exchange, one note, sharepoint ect?
You can sync your contacts, tasks, messages and calendar from exchange (all of it, or you can choose which sections to sync), and it will never share it with Google for no reason (in fact you would have to explicitly copy the info yourself using import/export methods). It's worth noting that Google accounts themselves actually use exchange so both work similarly.
Sent from my HTC HD2 überphone
Thanks kbm, I didn't know about the site. But that will be very helpful if I switch.
Thanks Atomix86, That puts to rest my questions about connecting and syncing with my exchanger. Very helpful info indeed.
Anyone have any thoughts about the rest?

No problem at all, let me know if you need any more help.
Looking at the link PresidentMcCain posted, I realized the info was for Exchange 2003 and 2007. Will this also help for connecting to Exchange 2010 as well? That is what my exchange server is, and remembering a friend who just got a Mytouch 4g recently was having a problem connecting to Exchange 2010 with the default app.

Maybe this might help. I read it this morning than came across this thread.
i dont know about exchange accounts. So if this is what you needed than its all good.
Thanks czarsuperstar, that app would help with note syncing, but looks like not for connecting to Exchange 2010 in general.
I was on winmo for a while and loved it to be honest but i went to sd android back in January an the google syncs convinced me and not long after i got nand and Ive not once looked back, i went back on winmo about a month ago just to see whats new etc and think i had it on for about 20 miutess before i flashed android straight back so its always worth a shot so id test the sd builds first to get your own opinion and then build on from there
Good luck and enjoy the future....
