How Does The Navigator Work In Norway - G1 General

any norwegians who have unlocked the phone, can you tell me what is not good with the phone, except from the MMS not working yet. Anyone found a solution to the problem. I have a Chess service myself. I also wonder how I can get all my contacts from Outlook/my htc touch cruise to the G1 phone. Anyone solved this. What about connection the thing to my hotmail account. On my HTC touch cruise this is very simple.
Is the phone worth the money??? Looking forward to hear from you.
Best regards
Morten

Howdy
Cons:
Battery life
No decent IM app yet
Screen gets greasy fast
MMS is working if your provider supports having all the information in one single APN settings file. I am not sure if Chess supports this or not.
If you haven't already, get a decent data plan. That is one of the things I am struggeling to find in Norway, espescially on Telenor. You could get Mobilt Bredbånd, but to a price of 499,- NOK for unlimited, it isn't so tempting anymore. The only option I see is the iPhone bundle that Netcom have, but I want to use Telenor, so I am ****ed.
The easiest way I found to do this, is to download a program called KiGoo. This enables you to have a folder in Outlook that is basically your Google Contacts or your Google Calendar. I just synced all my Contacts from my Nokia E65 to Outlook, and then just copied them from the Outlook folder to the KiGoo folder. It worked pretty good, and almost all details got copied (Names, all phone number, e-mails and all important stuff is copied, and remains in the correct fields as well, unlike the Funambol Android Client, which puts commas in the Last Name field if there isn't anything there), and is the best solution I have tried so far. And believe me, I've tried LOTS of things.
It seems that .csv exporting from Outlook don't work, since Outlook uses Norwegian in to describe the values, which Gmail obviously don't understand.
I wouldn't have my hopes up for the Hotmail thing.
I haven't used hotmail since I was 12, but back then you had to have Hotmail Plus to be able to access your mail via POP3 or anything other than Webmail and the Live Client for windows. The only solution would have to be to forward all incoming mail to your Gmail account, and I don't know if hotmail supports that with out Plus.
You can access your Hotmail account through the browser, but it is only retarded, the Live page isn't optimized for mobile use, and it would just get annoying after a short while.
I would just change my email to gmail, which in my opinion is superior anyways
You can still use your Live ID on MSN so that is no big deal really.
Hope this sorted out some issues for you

Dos any1 knows if the G1 haz a norwegian t9 ?how do u manage to write sms with it ? since he dosent have the æøå

Please do some reading on the forum...
The handset has a full qwerty keyboard, why would there be a problem writing SMS? You get all special characters holding the corresponding key.(a=å, o=ø etc..)

How do you guys have your emails setup?

Hi all,
I just got my MDA yesterday and have been messing around with it ever since.
Anyways, I just have a quick question for those who have more than 1 email account setup through their phones. See I have 2-3 emails I use, plus one for school. I have them setup as messages (on the mda) and my school account through outlook (I couldn't set it up through the mda to work, because of security features). The way I have it setup works, but I am looking for a better way to put all of them into one area, but at the same time all the messages from each account distinguished nicely. If there is such a way please share the knowledge.
Thanx
I use the T-Mobile mail trigger service.....this is in the US though....
Yea I'm in the US too. What exactly is T-moblie email trigger?
thanx
It is a small app origianlly from the 6315 phone on TMO. I would guess it is on the MDA, too. It sends an invisible text that triggers the phone to login and download email. It makes it look like a slow push email system I don't think it will let me post because of the size. Google it, I'm sure you will find a download for it.
Your email is then setup on the TMO myemail site and those are the settings you use in the messaging app. I think there is a limit of 4 or 5 on the PDA, I only use two so I don't know.
Don't know a way around the security on your school email. Perhaps post the Outlook settings and someone here could post how to set it up on the mobile.
The built-in is far from perfect, but it will work for you.
Is it the MyEmail already installed on the phone? Because everytime I try to set it up it says I need T-Zone, do you guys have T-Zone?

mms software for x01ht

woot! my first post and i am happy to say that i am at a cafe writing this on my x01ht from softbank.
question:
does any one know any other mms programs that I can use besides arcsoft program. The program itself is good but when recieving mms it just doesn't decode the messege. Being in Japan mms is widely used and there is no real point if messaging if I can only use sms. SMS here is pretty much useless because of the length and pictures that people send here.
My phone is great but just missing that complete mms option. any help would be appreciated m__m at the moment I will try anything.

Sorry the title is off
^thank you for your reply^
So I am at work in Tokyo and still no solution to the problem. I know that there is Arcsoft, It works but only half the time with short messages. But really it's used to recieve short messages across networks and that's about it.
MMS composer doesn't really do what it's suppose to do, some one in the forum said that it has problems but no one has found the solution. Getting my girlfriend to find one through Japanese sites is a task and the solution points to the same problems.
Decoding error and can't recieve multimedia, I think the program is a waste of space honestly.
But is there any other alternatives?
Can I edit the program to make it recieve the error decoded message? It would be nice to know who sent the mms so I can reply and tell them that they would have to email it to my work email.
Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question, but how did you get an email address for MMS from Softbank? They keep telling me that you can't get one for the X01HT. Thanks

pls ignore my first comment if you have read it.
anyway, the decode issue has not been solved with MMS composer as lond as i know. i suppose it is simply a matter of time that s/b will provide software for mms. however, i don't really see a point in using mms with a device with which you can use push mail and pop3 mail for free.

s/b just says you cannot use mms with x01ht. if you put your sim in another s/b phone and set up mms, you will get an addrees, won't you?
i see ...
thanks qtotter for the quick and swift answer ^-^ ill wait around for something to happen i guess
What i acually did was installed the software for the mms composer, then i just emailed out to my gmail account. It works sometimes sending long emails but as for just a test I just sent a 1 character mail.
My email address is garbage like [email protected] but it does work only if the mms composer works. I also couldn't figure out how setup the portal to change my email address but i guess that will come later when i fix this mms problem.
i still don't understand about pushmail. has something to do with setting up your own server at home, is that right? if i could get pushmail to work it would be nice.
sorry if i have bad grammar mistakes im writting this on the train home

direct push mail is something like mms. there are a couple of ways to use this function.
1) use free server (http://www.mail2web.com/)
very easy. you cannot use your existing email address with this free service.
2) have your own exchange server (unrealistic for most people)
you can do whatever you want, but it is a little too expense for personal use.
3) use emoze (http://www.emoze.com)
seems popular. you have to have your home pc always on.
once again thanks
Now I'm at home chilling in front of my computer while I ponder about my phone bill because I am still using my old phone. I'm in a transition at the moment with my phones. Once qtotter mentioned about the Pushmail I started to search the site for some information. Some person has a free server and I'm thinking if that is a good thing to do, to put my messages a strangers server.
Thanks for the information once again, I will do my research before heading in a direction.

In my case it's because I want to have an "instant email" that is different from my work email.
As far as I can tell you can only synchronize to one exchange server/account. So I want to synch my contacts, tasks, calendar with my work exchange account but have a separate "email that I receive instantly" account just for my keitai (so don't want to synchronize email with my exchange, want to synch it with a completely different account). Seems like MMS is the only way I can do this...

What is stopping you from making a new email with Gmail or your own ISP, then just use that account for Pushmail? so then you will have 2 different emails. I would think that outlook on the X01ht would have the ability to make mulituple accounts so that you can recieve email for pushmail and another just a pop3 for your company mail.
Now I see the light and figured out that there is no difference except the email name. Pushmail and MMS is somewhat the same, I am setting up my pushmail account with austin since I don't think my emails are that important unless he would like to come to Japan and meet my friends.
But I guess I will have to wait for a reply to see if he will accept my signup.

awh_tokyo wants to use two realtime-delivery email accounts at the same time. if he uses outlook email for his company echange server, he cannot use outlook email for direct push. i suppose mms is the only way as he already knows.
(not trying to be *****y, but i am glad i can breathe without checking my email for more than 30 min.)
No, I think you're missing the scenario. Push mail is great in places where it's a pain to make a phone call. For example, in the subway when you're trying to figure out where you meet up with everybody.
I don't want my work mail mixing with the really high priority stuff from friends/family that I want to be able to interrupt me.
But what's still not answered, is how can you get Softbank to provision you an email address for this thing? Or are there server settings you can use in MMS composer to get an address? Buying another phone just to get an email assigned SIM seems ridiculous.

You can set up the right proxy settings and User-Agent string in NetFront Browser so that it will let you on to the Vodafone Live site (or whatever it's called now). Then you just go into "email settings" and setup your new address.
That's how I did it. Suppose you could also find someone with a Softbank phone and put your SIM card in it...

register softbank mms email
https://www.email.softbank.ne.jp/
zafran77 thank you for that information, I went there but I couldn't access that page. I just used my girlfriends phone to change my address but then there is no point in that since MMS Composer is useless when it comes to receiving MMS'. I don't know why I still have it on my phone, 90% of the time it doesn't work.
MMS Resender
There seems to be a new program that works in tandem with the MMS Composer, re-requesting emails that generate the "decode error" so that they (assumedly) will be decoded correctly. I found few links here http://blogs.dion.ne.jp/shapo_ykp/archives/4675352.html
The few blogs I have read (or tried to read, they being in Japanese) sound hopeful that this is a true workaround/solution to the MMS problem.
I would love to try this out myself, but I can't get my hands on a copy of the MMS Composer (used to be attached to this page http://asukal.net/blog/2006/09/mms_client_for_htcz.html but has disappeared) for love or money. Anyone out there who might have that cab sitting around in their recycle bins, please chuck a copy over to larsuck at hotmail dot com and I will give these two programs a whirl.
I'm sure you can find the file somewhere on google.. I've tried the MMS Resender program and it's working so far.. although I do have problems receiving emails from websites such as yahoo.. not quite sure why tho.. but keitai (cellphone) mails seems to be working.. I think the MMS Resender acts as an agent and is used with the MMS Composer..
I used to use MMS only for sending SMSs to my home country using an SMS gateway.. and since this 2 programs seems to work with MMSs written in Japanese, I'll be using MMS for the normal mails from now on (used Gmail for this up til now)

old softbank mail address

Hi all. I just got an x01ht. Im using schapps 3.30 wm6 pro rom.
Just wondering if there is any way to use my old @k.vodafone.ne.jp mail on my new phone. I have my pc mail setup but everyone i know uses my old phone address.it'll be a pain to mail everyone and tell them to change to my pc addreess. And outlook doesnt show the message as soon as it is available.have to log on etc etc.
any help would be appreciated
One way is that you could download softbanks MMS mail program... but I dont sugest using it as it is slow, poorly thought out, clumsy to use and absoluty the worst user experiance application I have ever seen.
The other way, which i suggest is that you search the forum or internet for MMSLite.bld265 which will work with Outlook but you wont have the use of emoticons. This way is much faster and although outlook isnt the best UX program it is much better than the Softbank option.
cheers.its working now
Hey Hippo which option did you use?

Exchange on the Hero, first impressions

I've noticed that not has much been said on the Hero's exchange support in any of the reviews or user reports so I thought I'd let people know what it's like as, for me, this is a must have feature. I should say that I have not had an android phone before and so I have had no experience with Nitrodesk's exchange solution so I can't compare.
Well, I entered my exchange details during initial set-up and after my first attempt was unsuccessful (SSL needed and is off by default) it than worked. Asked me if I wanted to sync Mail, Calender and Contacts all of which I selected. After the rest of the setup had finished the phone told me I had a new e-mail arrive so I could tell it was working straight away.
Mail is fantastic. Downloads everything fine, has at least as many options as WM for choosing which messages to download. E-mails look great on the display and html e-mails show up fine.
Contacts are great, they all appear straight away in the people and the phone application. All the Facebook and Flikr integration works perfectly. Only niggle is that you can't group contacts by company which is something I used to do on WM.
Calender seems to work fine. Appointments showed up ok, including appointments sent by e-mail.
All in all, the exchange sync is way better than expected and in some ways better than WM. The integration seems very deep and integral to the OS rather than a bolt on feature.
I agree with you there Bud, just a shame that there is no task sync support yet - still looking
All was fine for me, but as soon as I've allowed it to connect my contacts to FB contacts, sync fails for conacts with a 'client/server conversion error' message.
I'm using exchange 2003, mail and calendar are syncing fine, and I too would love tasks to be added, along with a fix for contacts and I'm a happy hero user
Strange - I have had no issues with the Fb sync but i use Exchange 07
Just Exchange, or...
...also Outlook?
not tried to sync with outlook yet, whats the best app for that?
I would settle for an outlook connector that I could just set to sync contacts and tasks, as these two arent really changing so frequently I wouldnt mind having to 'plug in' to sync these.
I just use exchange so can't comment on outlook sync. Facebook linking worked fine for me but I also have exchange 2007 so can only assume it's a problem there. Not sure if the exchange functionality is all implemented by HTC or whether they've used part of Nitrodesk's Touchdown but I saw on the Nitrodesk website that they don't support exchange 2003 yet.

The only app is HTC sync which is included along with the hero's manual on the sd card supplied with your phonbe, word of warning i just installed htc sync on my vista pc and it caused windows explorer to continuously crash until i uninstalled it, not impressed
Tried to install the app ealier, drivers failed and the app wont work (win 7 32 bit)
Going to try the long way round for now - sync outlook contacts to my google account and keep the google contacts synced to my phone - would I end up with a duplicate of everyone then though?

I, like you (not I like you!), have synced up this way. I too cannot get HTC sync to work. I am sure Orange have bundled the wrong version.
So, I export Outlook to a file, then import contact file to google cal, then sync gcalendar to hero. Job done.
No duplicates, google calendar seems intelligent enough to recognise the dups
I would like to share my experience
Booted up.... would you like to set up exchange?
HELL YES!!!!
enter the details..... (internet accessible exchange server)
<entered>
What you wanna sync my boy?
EVERY GOD DAMN THING
oooooook here we go.......
<done.>
Sweet!
Thinking about an Adriod as my next phone, since I think WM is really falling behind everyone else! I use it mostly for work so a couple of questions if you don't mind....
No tasks syncing so far?
How does the calander work, are the views easy to see, day and week stuff?
Meeting requests work?
Can you flag email messages? This is a must for me and I hate that WM 6.5 can't even do it!
How do you find the keyboard replying to emails?
Can you open Word, Excel, PDF files?
Any other features it has for work that WM doesn't?
Thanks
Exchange
I'm having probs with exchange.
It will only sync my main inbox, not any of the subfolders I have, and will only sync via mobile network - fails on wifi ? ?
Then again can't get ANY web stuff on wifi ? ?
Word and excel fully creatable and editable with Docs to Go, and Open Office I think does let you read different docs though not sure which. Best PDF Reader seems to be RepliGo Reader which is good for books as well.
I'm only just getting to grips with Google Calendar but seems to have a great deal of flexibility for appts and stuff.
Widgets really just getting going, so I'm not sure of all those available...
Daisy - Magic owner, so Hero may be slightly different xx

It goes past first option i.e. to show me what i want to synch mail, contacts, calendar and than when I click on finish setup it fails with message unable to create account try later! Any idea what is going wrong. How can I fix it?
Sachin
Anyone have any experience with exchange sync where the server requires you to set a password/pincode for the phone?
Heard some people saying that this was not supported by the Hero. A pity if true, as I need this to work in order to be able to use the Hero as a work phone (in other words, if I am to buy a Hero).
The out of the box exchange support is really very good. It just needs the ability to authenticate via password or client certificate.
I much prefer it to WM, but only because its completely finger friendly.
Yes you can flag emails, and they show up under the flagged emails tab at the bottom.
I really really hope the update within 10 days or September will affect this thing? Need to be able to sync more than one folder at the time.

works for me on vista 64 with orange branded HTC Touch. I believe there is an update on the HTC website, not sure if that enables win7 support
I certainly didn't notice explorer crashing after I installed it, chances are it's another explorer extension interfering (either a media codec that is failing at showing thumbnails, or a right-click extension or similar)

[Q] microsoft my phone sync

So... I'm 100pct up and running wp7 except for the SD card and I want to eventually set up dual boot with android off the SD card... but I know that's covered on here and I have more reading to do.
BUT... I've searched and browsed and googled and can't find anyone mentioning a similar situation.
I had a hacked tytnII which I used the myphone service for (I also used the it on the hd2 when it had the stock winmo6 on it.)
now that WP7 is on there it's VERY strange... a LOT of my contacts populated... but some were missing pictures and others were not there entirely.
I've clicked around the myphone website and tried to find any kind of settings for it and can't... then I swiped around the phone looking for anything but really can't see where/if there are setting for it.
Is this normal?
PS. I have not outlook install to sync the missing contact... it's not the end of the world but I'd definately prefer not having to enter the 30-40 contacts missing.
Soory to tell you that WP7 doesn't use and cannot access MS MyPhone.
I think, it will be easier to enter 40 contacts manually.
Another way if You don't have WM device:
- Download Windows mobile device emulator (You can find it on Microsft site),
download VirtualPC 2007
- Install both.
- Set up Your virtual WM device;
- Synchronize with Myphone;
- Synchronize with Your e-mail (I used google)
//All Your contacts will be present now on Your mail account
- Synchronize You HD2WP7 with this e-mail account.
it's worth it if You have few hundred contacts in Your address book.
//You'll certainly spend more than one hour doing this
If You have another WM device things will go easier - synchronize it with myphone service and e-mail. than synchronize wp7 to that email
That's insane... what I don't get either is in the settings for the accounts Hotmail says you can sync calender contacts mail etc... but when you click into the submenu the only selectable check box is email.
Under google I can sync contacts and calender.
It turned out that the missing contacts were in fact my google contacts that were not included under "my contacts" (on android you can search for the name and it comes up even though it's not displayed in your list of contacts... I use this for contacts at work that I don't want cluttering up my people list but need to have their numbers accessable... I've just moved them to my contacts in google contacts.
It's insane to me that windows has an online backup system in place that they didn't impliment on their "new" os... what a bunch of idiots.
WP7 has been continuously shocking me with how crappy it is.... I better get reading on how to set up a SD card to boot android... or maybe even just nand it... wp7 looks like it's not going to be worthwhile for at least another year... This OS really kind of sucks. I can't believe Nokia hoped on board.
Thats a pitty youre not able to use WP7, oh well never mind hey.
Now, "My phone" has nothing to do with WP7 it is not linked in anyway, its a service built for WM6, the my phone team are working on a WP7 version
To be honest, im not sure exactly why you are getting workd up with MS on this one, Its live service works fine, it does sync calenders, conacts etc, setup a live account, install outlook or Live mail, sync all existing calender, contacts in to outlook / live, sync live to phone. Its not very hard.
the only thing its really lacking is SMS backup, and some kind of app/settings/files skydrive intigration would be good too. but thats why they are making a new cloudbased backup solution, "my phone" was very limited in its uses, id consider it a test if anything, cloud is the future and myphone was not using all of its potential
anyhow, as i said, its a shame you cant use it because it is actually very good, but thats why our HD2s are so good, we all have a choice.
