Some more BS news released about Froyo update.....maybe??? - Epic 4G General

They mention the Epic 4g, but i think they got the manufacturer wrong.
http://www.khabrein.info/news/Samsu..._and_Vibrant_Android_2_2_rolls_in_1296612576/
Like all news articles about his topic, take it with a grain of salt...

What is there to take with a grain of salt? They article had nothing to say. I think you could sum it up by saying that some of they Galaxy variants will get 2.2 soon and the Epic and Captivate or whatever after that. So, it'll be some period of time after some other period of time.
Great.

The only thing noteworthy I took from that article is that apparently, Sprint got fed up with the Froyo outlash and decided to trade up with AT&T such that all Epic owners are now AT&T customers and Captivate owners rely on Sprint. lol

I actually generally check any froyo "news" from right here. I feel that there is enough insider info from employees and people in the know that people here would have a better idea then some random website with their devices wrong. But it is good to have media coverage still I guess pushing Sammy in some direction.

No Froyo 2.2 for Vibrant untill 2011, GPS Fix late November of this year.

****Sorry this is for T-mobile US Vibrant only! Admins, if you can move this, i'd appreciate it!***
Hey all, First post here, but this is really important news/info to me, since it affects me greatly and has been a source of great stress, anger and frustration for me.
T-mobile will be announcing this soon, but my friend who works for corporate T-Mo U.S. has confirmed that they have the final build of the GPS fix, and is undergoing extensive testing, and that it will start being pushed to users OTA just after Thanksgiving. Yes, that's another 2 months of no GPS for us.
Now, the worse news: Froyo will not be ready for release until next year. MY friend said that Samsung is running into all sorts of problems trying to adapt Froyo for their phones. I'm especially pissed off about this bit of news.
***VERY IMPORTANT****
My friend also advised me not to use the update samsung had posted on Kies as it will prevent users from getting the OTA of Froyo when it is released next year. So, if you plan on keeping your Vibrant, for the love of god, don't force the Kies update (that was the update T-mo rejected because it bricked their test phones and other problems).
For those of you who have held off returning their phones during the "remorse" period hoping for a speedy update are SOL, just like myself. We'll be getting 2.2 by the time everyone else has 3.0, which is ******ed. I've already filed claims for a chargeback with my credit card company, as this is a clear cut case of receiving a product that was not delivered as promised (damaged or faulty product). I suggest all of you do the same if you are out of options and shudder at the thought of having to wait 6 months for every update for the next 2 years while everyone else gets them in half the time.
Anyways, If everyone can help spread this info, it'd be much appreciated, as I want everyone to be as well informed as possible. GPS issues aside, i love my phone, but I cannot stand the thought of having to deal with Samsung's BS and incompetence for 2 years.
cool story brother...
I wish i was making this up. You'll hear it from T-mo when they announce it next week like they said they would do on twitter.
half of tmobile us staff is on crack , they dont knwo shyt wat they talk about...they good at reading those scripts provided to them and asking customers to remove the battery wait 30 seconds and insert it bak again
I heard that samsung is going to roll out Froyo first then GPS fix later. But meh.

Yeah, but that's customer "service" people. When I called 2 days ago to ***** them out again and warn them I was going to do a credit card charge back, the lady told me there was a fix... and guess what that "fix" was.."go into settings, location and security, and check the box that says "use wireless networks"... And I asked her if she was ****ting me... Literally, thats what I said.. "are you ****ting me?" then I demanded to speak to retention (to return phone past the 14 days) which did me no good so i told them I would do a charge back for sending me a faulty product at their expense thereby getting a refund and keeping their phone and she said if I felt that would resolve my problems, then to do so.
My buddy works in strategies/ product development, and tests the phones/updates and whatnot. They're currently testing the latest GPS fix they've received after the last one bricked several of their phones.
I'm getting froyo on my SGS next week at the official Samsung mobile service for our country. It is not the final official release, but is still official since I'll get it at their service.
So I will stop *****ing about final OTA/Kies release, 'cause Samsung kept their promise, at least partly (to receive froyo upgrade this year - it's what they said when they rolled out the phone).
They've told me that I will be able to upgrade my phone via Kies when the final version arrives.
So I'm getting my froyo and still hoping for an official release later this year, which is what Samsung said at the first place.
Regards

All I have to say about your friend is he is full of BS
We will only spread this AFTER the OFFICIAL Announcement..
Why is a topic exclusively about T mobile Vibrant not being posted on the actual Tmobile Vibrat section?
it's very well known the Bell Vibrant is a i9000 and not a SGH-T959

Honestly this makes no sense... If they plan on continuing to sell this galaxy s phones over the holidays then they better get froyo rolling out before next year.

Where the heck is froyo?

Is Samsung just going to skip froyo and go straight to gingerbread for our device?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I hope not. That would mean another 6 months of waiting once Gingerbread releases
You can get Froyo here! http://www.tuttifruttimd.com/
http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/samsung-comes-clean-with-galaxy-s-froyo-upgrade-dates-all-carri/
is froyo a priority? it took the evo a few months to get it why do ya think we are getting it sooner?
I highly highly doubt our Epics will ever even see Gingerbread. Officially at least.
from a epic Galaxy far, far away.
Gingerbread if it all will be atleast 6 months away. They will give us froyo for sure, and worst case scenario it will be christmas at latest. Most likely we will see it in november. This is all based on rumour and speculation though.

Engadget was wrong in that article and, shamefully, still has not corrected it. The mistake was debunked in this thread here, in other xda threads, and all over the Internet.
Some commenters, shamefully, do not search before posting, so they perpetuate the old misinformation. Bad enough that the OP never should have started this thread in the first place. Now it is spreading not only his speculatative BS about Gingerbread, but also Engadget's factual mistakes about Froyo.

Engadget, Gizmodo, and Techcrunch have never been known for their high standards in journalistic accuracy. Most sites covering Android sites are more or less blogs. Heck, even large companies these days don't get their stories right a lot of the time.
But going back to the point, it seems that with Samsung, updating does not appear to be a priority, despite the sales figures for the Galaxy S series (all variants).
I imagine that the Epic may even be the last phone because it is the most different - with the 4G, hardware keyboard, flash, and notification light. The world edition will be the first one, because of its user base (in fact an update has already been rolled out but was later pulled due to bugs).
Be Patient
Perhaps Samsung & Sprint want to make sure that FroYo is an "Epic" experience.
Before I got my Epic, I tried a Captivate. The wireless client was broken and would not work on some networks. I also could not adjust to the virtual keyboard.
I was concerned when I got my epic, but the wireless client had been fixed. My coworkers with Captivates are still broken. I understand that FroYo was released with wireless issues that have affected corporate users. (See "support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=7f71ff06702e39e1" from google's site)
Maybe Sprint wants to learn from the mistakes of others and get it right on the first try.
Sorry for the strange link - new user here.

This is unacceptable.

The fact that we were promised a piece of software that should only require minor tweaking is absolutely unacceptable. I use linux for almost everything and that being said I know a bit about rolling out releases of different distros and how to integrate them into different systems. Android is a linux based software, (Opensource might I add), the only reason we don't have the bleeding edge is because Samsung needs to put their horrible UI into it, TW. I don't care about "Touchwiz" its badly programmed and anyone who has taken basic programing courses could program a GUI for this phone that puts it to shame. I'm sick of dealing with leaked versions of things that I was promised. No offense to any of the Devs, you guys are incredible and should be paid to roll out these releases rather than waiting for these bad companies with their "programmers" to try to find out how to use a toilet. we should have a stable build of gingerbread by now and I'm sorry but building a driver/hardware file for a computer isnt that hard, nor should it be so for Samsung since they placed all the parts into the phone. What do they have like one person with half a brain trying to reprogram the whole OS using Assembly code? Do they not realize the OS its self is open source and you can mod the code for each phone?? Both sprint and Samsung are horrible companies, if Froyo doesn't show soon, I will never touch a single one of their products after my contract is up, which is soon. Sorry, I just needed to rage. Hard.
Im with you man. Samsung stinks! I traded my EVO for a Epic and I have regretted it since. It has the best hardware out there and ZERO support. They are too slow about upgrades that are available and even lower end phones have gotten Froyo. They should skip Froyo and be first to drop Gingerbread. But, that would be too much like right for Samsung who sold the phones then dropped all of its users like a bad habit. If they dont do something soon Ill never buy another phone from Samsung. I dont blame Sprint because dropping updates is not on them. The EVO will probably be the next to get Froyo because that's the phone that Sprint has thrown it all in with.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's Sprint's fault for the delayed release. Sprint putting in their bloatware is the most likely reason we have not received the OTA yet. While Samsung is at fault for not getting it out sooner, it is Sprint that is causing this delay.
All companies are like this its not just sprint or samsung... I've been with every carrier except att and I've tried all three major cellphone brands and they've all lagged behind like this.
Until android is less fragmented, (think its getting there), and carriers realize their UIs only frustrate consumers and there are better ways to advertise/garnish more fundage from existing customer base; we will face "version lag" all the time regardless of carrier/phone.
Just my $0.02

I think saying Gingerbread should be available now is pushing it..at this stage Gingerbread is for "developers"...I'm not saying that its not stable or anything, but it requires time to optimize for the hardware at hand...no phone ever gets a new Android OS until a few months after it came out..other the developer phones...
As for Froyo..according to samsung they gave it to the carriers..yes they have been slow overall but considering they are releasing 2.2.1 and not just 2.2 puts them there...
We know 100% that touchwiz is not the issue at this point as the leaks are running touchwiz just fine..
Either way there is still hope for end of the year update..as next playbook comes out on the 29th

Sprint "bloatware" is only a few apps worth a few megs. I think the only bloatware would be TW. I will never understand why is it so hard to port, say, the g2 build of android to our phone or any other android phone considering its pure vanilla with a few apps installed extra.. but that's why I'm no dev lol

Your Epics came out about a week or two after we got Froyo and Samsung has been promising ever since. Google other Samsung phones and you will see this is a trend with this company. The Galaxy S line over seas are not carried by Sprint and they just started getting Froyo Open your eyes its Samsung. No Froyo on T-Mobile, Verizon or At&t

Exactly. Very well said. This is a samsung issue and sprint has nothing to do with it. If that was the case then when the Evo got Froyo it would have probably been delayed also. I am only posting here because I was considering getting a epic but with all this delay and lack of support, I think I will have to re-think that. Everyone said from day one that Samsung would not support the phone and it has been proven true. Just a note on the delay, I have to say that the update was out for the vibrant and it was bricking phones. That shows how good the developers are over at samsung. They can't even program their own product. It's a shame because it's such a nice phone and the keyboard was the icing on the cake. Oh well.

They are both at fault actually. Samsung was slow to release the update to carriers and now they are being slow to release it to the end user. SGS devices in europe have had the update since november.
As to the evo issue, sprint considers the evo its flag ship device and as such makes sure it is up to date whereas they have made it abundantly clear they don't give a single flying **** about the epic so there is no incentive to update.
Sent from my Samsung Epic CyanogenMod 6.2 (much thanks noob)

Can This be True?? 2.2 in a few days?

Just saw this posted, what do ya'll think?
http://www.mobilemag.com/2010/12/27/verizons-samsung-fascinate-getting-froyo-before-years-end/
Actually this has been discussed. It is believed that this chart is an outdated chart from Verizon. There are things on the chart that support it being outdated. I not trying to rain on your parade, as I would love Froyo on my Fascinate before the end of the year as well, I am just not certain it will happen. I know the Epic's Froyo update that was supposed to go live 12/26 got postponed, so maybe Samsung is having issues with Froyo on certain Galaxy S phones (CDMA Galaxy S's to be exact). Either that or they are just deciding to pool resources into a Gingerbread update. Either way the lack of updates and update statuses from Verizon and Samsung is leading to the frustration over the lack of an update. All I can recommend now is patience. We will get it when they decide to release it. Either that or Verizon will get the iPhone in Jan. or Feb. and offer some insane upgrade pricing to entice people to move to that smartphone. Who knows, lol.
Ahh, I must have missed that one, I'm in no hurry but I thought this was something new. Thanks....
I will rain on the parade, because that chart's an internal Verizon training tool that came out before the Fascinate actually launched. This whole thing is getting kind of ridiculous -- Android Central put it up on their website as new, exclusive news, and all these other overeager Android bloggers leaped on it like hotcakes without doing any additional research. Is it possible the upgrade will come out before the year ends? Possible, yes. Likely, absolutely not. But this chart doesn't increase the likelihood one way or the other.
And on another note, as the previous poster mentioned this has been posted before -- actually, this is the third time in as two days -- which is why people generally suggest looking over recent threads before posting something you think may be new.
On Verizon's website there are software update instructions, has the 1500 already received an update for 2.1? Traded my buddy for this phone about a week ago and he had no idea what I was talking about when I asked if he ever had to update it, hehe
FWIW, on Samsung's website they show the Fascinate as having 2.2.
That is strange. I just saw that. It was 2.1 only a couple days ago. Shenanigans? Or a lead?
Talked to Samsung tech support. They confirmed that new phones will ship with froyo pre-installed. They would not confirm or deny if existing phones would receive the update.
That is misleading. And this shows under the verizon model fascinate, in case anyone is wondering.

I have to call BS on Samsung. I just got a new Fascinate from Best Buy last week (just switch to Verizon on the 15th of Dec, originally got the wife a incredible, but she wanted the same phone I got, so went back to get a fascinate for her) and that phone was new and did not have 2.2 on it. I wonder what kind of BS they are pulling here. I will gladly take these phones back to go get a 2.2 Fascinate before my 30 days exchange time is up. It really doesn't make sense not to release an update to current owners but to put it on new phones (which means it must be ready, or the new phones maybe an updated hardware version?). What Samsung and Verizon are doing here is incredibly stupid.
just talked to a service rep... i know i know.....
i asked why it says 2.2 next to the fascinate on their page...he said
"2.2 will be out ota in the next few days"...
I said "

the response was...

I think its time to spam facebook and twitter with our discontent. Really in this day and age with the internet and social networking sites, to not say anything about the update (but put it front and center on your product page that the phone has a version of the OS that it does not) is just showing poor customer appreciation.

It is sad but they don't care. They got your (and my) money and the only thing they care about is this quarters profits. That's business these days. The real issue here is that in order for Samsung to sell these phones they intentionally misled consumers into believing that the devices would be updated very shortly after their release. I'm sure it's no coincidence that this update will take place right around Q2-2011; they've had this for a while and have been holding out on us.

Here it is, straight from samsung. However, on the vzw website, it still lists it as having 2.1.
so fresh and so superclean.
as i have stated before... the update was not ready at the beginning of this month... i saw it with my own eyes... everything was constantly FC'ing...

It's not the waiting, it's the lack of any information that makes the natives restless.

Sprint is falling out.

It's disappointing seeing all of the upcoming phones for other carriers such as AT&T and Verizon and then seeing Sprints line of upcoming phones.

It's disappointing seeing all of the upcoming phones for other carriers such as AT&T and Verizon and then seeing Sprints line of upcoming phones.

Just curious, when sprint finally comes out and brings the HTC EVO 4G2 (or whatever it will be called), with some much better specs will people still complain about something??

This is outrageous!! We need to go to their headquarters and lynch everyone!! I can't believe that are doing this to us. I may have to go on suicide watch!

I'm not madly complaining or anything here...I'm just saying that it's disappointing. Are you telling me that when you look at all of the other phones coming out on other carriers and how much they are moving forward compared to Sprint that it isn't even the least bit disappointing to you? I'm not sitting here saying **** Sprint or anything, but the future doesn't look very promising for Sprint. And there is no guarantee on a successor to the Evo as much as I would like for there to be.

There are a couple of major mobile conferences coming up. Why not wait and see what shakes out after that?
Looks like the Evo is gonna hold it down in 2011

I'm waiting...I just don't understand it really. Heres the way I picture it currently:
The Evo is the best Android phone currently available(along with the Droid X) and has been out since summer of 2010. Verizon and AT&T are just now getting phones comparable to the Evo with the HTC Thunderbolt(Verizon) and the HTC Inspire(AT&T). Doesn't it make sense that a new device should have already been announced and wouldn't that be the most beneficial to them before people jump ship to Verizon and AT&T for the better devices? It doesn't seem like they have the timing down right. On another note, I commend Sprint on getting ahead and remaining in first for as long as they did.
On a more positive note, with the Evo developer community the Evo will continue to be a top notch device probably until fall of 2011.

I wasn't pointing you out specifically just posing a question. But to answer your question....nope I could care less about what other carriers are doing. I understand the business models of these companies. It goes in a cycle. Im sure people on those carriers were saying the same things just a few months ago when HTC/Sprint dropped the EVO, and all those guys had was the incredible, droid etc..... Matter of fact I saw those same things posted about how Vrz, Tmob better hurry up and drop something or else they would switch.
Its the same thing, except the roles are reversed. No carrier can just keep bringing out new phones every other month. Sprint is no exception. But it will come on their time, not ours. I am still getting plenty of satisfaction out of my EVO and no phone released to date can do anything my EVO can't do so I can live with it until its successor is released. Plus the EVO still has the best DEV I have seen so it will always be relevent regardless what is released. Moral of the story is someone will always be disappointed because they aren't seeing a new phone every week, but as soon as its announced they mysteriously forget about all the complaining.......
until a month later after they have had the phone and see another carrier release something else. Then the cycle continues.
HTC is having some event is 6 days. Lets just hope they release something to help sprint along. http://www.facebook.com/HTC
