Try to reboot your phone first, if it still persist then do a factory reset but be sure to back up all your data first before doing a reset.

I dont know how to back up. Im not rooted

updated, now camera not working.

so i just installed HTC's update that they now pulled. And just tried to launch the camera app and all it does is, black screen with the camera icon then it fades back to the home screen. anyone else have the same problem with the froyo update??
Nope... but glad I waited. Guess ill hold off until next week.
no problems with the camera. It's working fine for me.
I'd try restarting the phone once more. Right after I updated and booted into the system, I tried to make a phone call and everytime I clicked call it just went back to the dialer screen without any numbers input. Restarting fixed this. EDIT: However i just tried the camera and its not working just as you described. >_<
yeah... i just restarted the phone and that fixed it. YAY!!!!! SWEET! SWEET! FROYO GOODNESS!!!!!

Have you tried power cycling? I've had that issue once with 2.1 - power cycling solved it, hasn't happened again.
I had the same problem after installing Froyo 3.26 and I rebooted a few times to get it to work and have had no problem since.
power cycling hasn't helped me at all. I'm gonna try resetting back to stock w/o my saved apps/data and see how that goes. After that, I'm going to try and downgrade back to 1.47 ota (someone in another thread mentioned it was doable.)
Before you do that try to open the camcorder app and see if it opens my friend said it worked for him IDK if it was just a coincidence.
I updated and just noticed the camera does not work. I have tried power cycling with no success.

I tried camera app, camcorder app, as well as the shortcut that was on my home screen. No luck. Also, I believe I'm incorrect on downgrading being able to work but we'll see.

same here i opened every app i have and no issues sorry to hear that bro i reopened the camcorder and camera app twice to be sure and takes pics fine
So, after numerous restarts, I turned airplane mode on so that I wouldn't receive anything while backing up and thus need to rebackup, and plugged my phone via usb to my computer. While the sdcard was mounted in ubuntu, I ran the camera app and it worked. I then dismounted the sdcard, unplugged the usb cable, waited for android to remount it, and tried again and its still working. I don't know if mounting the sdcard onto a computer fixed it but its worth a shot for anyone else having trouble.

I had this issue also with the camera not launching, it would go to a black screen for a second and then go back to the home screen. I was browsing an album of a friend's facebook pictures from their contact card and clicked the shutter icon in the bottom corner to launch my camera and that allowed the camera to work via the application launching now. Kind of strange, but I haven't seen any other issues yet.

[Q] Camera crashes immediately

Running 2.2 OTA, never had anything else. I tried a Factory Data Reset, but still have the same thing. Camera opens and then immediately closes itself. Same for the camcorder. I downloaded Retro Camera and can take pictures, so I know the hardware works.
Anyone got any ideas? Would an .SBF flash fix this? New rom maybe?
I would settle for the stock android camera and 5mp pictures right now.
My sister's wedding is this weekend, I would like to take pictures with my phone.
Thanks in advance!!
Found a solution. Flashed this 2.2 camera ZIP.
If anyone else needs it link is here: LINK
Yeah the same thing happened to me just out of no where the camera and camera would not open. Just opened to black screen and back to home immediately. I tried downloading few camera apps from market same thing pulled the battery and nothing. Second battery pull worked though...very weird.
Check the memory card. Take it out and put it back in. Someone at work has a Droid and his was doing the same thing and I reseated the memory card and it fixed the problem. It was like it was loose.
This happened to me after going two weeks without rebooting, but a quick reboot solved the problem

For others having this, try clearing data and cache for the camera app:
Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> all tab> Camera
Force stop, Clear data, Clear cache.

[Q] droid x gingerbread camera has mind of its own?

so i updated my droidx to gingerbread, it managed to brick itself, i called verizon and they sent me a replacement. i got the replacement, opened it up, and it worked great! except, the camera seems to like to start itself and repeatedly take pictures. i try pressing home, and it goes to my homescreen, then it will reopen itself. if i force close the camera it will open itself right back up. this is really annoying, and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions/seen this happen?
try factory reset. if that doesnt work, then sbf. if that doesnt fix it, just have them send you another.
ugh factory resets take so much time.....
actually, wait, would a factory reset auto-download all my apps again?
Switch?
Faulty camera switch??
That is the simplest reason for the camera to auto start and taking pictures.
Good luck

No, it returns your phone to a blank (out of the box) state. You have to re-download apps independently.
Well actually, once you sign in to your gmail account, all your apps will download.
But you deserve this for getting a replacement. Learn to fix bricked phones before you do ANYTHING with them
wait... the phone bricked itself?!? lol good one

Camera forces screen to turn off

Dear All,
I tried searching for this topic but no results. My experience with the N4 on the 5th day gave me this glitch.
1. I go to take a photo with the camera on the N4.
2. I'm about to take the photo the screen goes blank. I turn it on again.
3. It truns the screen off immediately.
4. I exit the camera and go to my home screen and it turns the screen off again.
5. I turn it on again and it immediately shuts the screen off.
I re-booted my phone and it is ok till I turn the camera on again. I switch to landscape mode from portait and it shuts closes my screen.
Could this be a problem with the sensors. Please comment if you have any clues to any of the mentioned problems. I got the phone from a brick and mortor store and not Google Play Store.
Thanks.

Dear All,
Never happened to me... I got mine from an O2 shop.
What Hw rev are you on?
To see it switch off the phone, then hold the vol down button and turn it on.
You ll see the bootloader screen coming up, in there you can see the HW_rev, mine is 11 which should be the latest as per today.

AW: Camera forces screen to turn off
I would suggest doing a factory reset. If that doesn't help, please there's a thread called "[battery improvement] works have the time all the time" explaining how to re flash the whole Rom.
try that too.
report if it helps

All is well now after the factory reset. it cleared all apps and saved items to start over again. The phone is very stable now and the camera functions perfectly.
Thanks again.:victory:

Go to settings / applications / all and clear data for camera.
If it doesn't fix the problem, do a Wipe data/factory reset + Wipe Cache
Reboot?
Or, consider if you have installed any other app that is hogging the camera.

I have the exact same problem!
First time I got this was after running com.magix.camera_mx from Google Play.
The app made a force close, and it kept doing that. Didn't think much about it.
But after a few minutes I tried using the stock app.
It opened, and I saw the camera for ~2 seconds, until the auto focus kicked in.
When the auto focus kicks in, the screen freezes, if you close/kill/whatever the app and reopens it. It just shows a black screen with that error OP wrote.
"fix":
Hold down power button, and hit the reboot.
You now have until next time it tries to auto focus.
Repeat until you got your picture
Another "fix":
Factory recovery
This gives you a few hours to play, where the auto focus and everything is working
Without installing/doing something, it suddenly "dies" again.
I'm ready to try any suggestions there is, since this can be temporary fixed with factory reset I assume its a software error.
But I won't root or flash anything, as I want to be able to sent it in for repair if needed.
i9505
Android 4.2.2, I9505XXUAMDE
Update: After more testing I found out the camera ONLY works when it's plugged into the 2A charger or battery is full. :s - I will send it in for repair tomorrow (7 may 2013)
Update 2: Got it back from repair, there was both software update for the phone. And after that it asked me to upgrade the camera firmware. Everything seems to work fine now.
