so i updated my droidx to gingerbread, it managed to brick itself, i called verizon and they sent me a replacement. i got the replacement, opened it up, and it worked great! except, the camera seems to like to start itself and repeatedly take pictures. i try pressing home, and it goes to my homescreen, then it will reopen itself. if i force close the camera it will open itself right back up. this is really annoying, and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions/seen this happen?
try factory reset. if that doesnt work, then sbf. if that doesnt fix it, just have them send you another.
ugh factory resets take so much time.....
actually, wait, would a factory reset auto-download all my apps again?
Switch?
Faulty camera switch??
That is the simplest reason for the camera to auto start and taking pictures.
Good luck

No, it returns your phone to a blank (out of the box) state. You have to re-download apps independently.
Well actually, once you sign in to your gmail account, all your apps will download.
But you deserve this for getting a replacement. Learn to fix bricked phones before you do ANYTHING with them
wait... the phone bricked itself?!? lol good one

any idea why? it just seemed to start doing it oneday, im also getting a lot of launcher force closes. ive uninstalled many apps and im still getting it, i cant figure it out. im about to do a factory reset but really dont know how and also dont know if i will lose the paid apps ive downloaded and have to buy then again, please help! thank you!
You will NOT have to rebuy apps you have paid for. As long as you log in with the same Google account you will be able to redownload them.
As far as the resets, I have no idea. I am also getting the FCs with the launcher.
First... download Astro File Manager. It allows you to backup apps... not sure if you can back up paid apps, but maybe you can.
Then do a hard reset by going to Settings>Privacy>Factory Reset. Or you can turn the phone off and power back on holding the Volume Down rocker. That should solve the issue, but if it doesn't, it's time to call HTC and RMA the phone.
i ended up resetting to factory, im not sure why it was doing that
so i am trying to fix this for a friend. her stock sms app force closes every time you open it. i have cleared the cache and data. no different. i have read that factory resets may fix the problem but they dont give what is causing the problem. which is not a valid argument to factory reset if they are just guessing. its completely stock. no root. any help would be awesome.
I've been having it happen too. Just hold down the power button and selecting restart works. Shutting off the phone once a day is good too

restarting the phone does not work in this case. i have tried a few times.
my wife's MT4G has started to show similar symptoms recently. random force closes, and she will have to reboot to get it to work, but once she reboots all of her messages are gone and smsbackup is not backing it up. Her phone is completely stock no root and never has been. (she won't let me touch it ) lol

My wife is the same way and her phone was buggy too...she got the update a week or two ago and so far so good....
the best thing to do is a factory data reset,as to why its force closing, it could be a simple bug or something went wrong on installing android on the phone. if it continues to keep happening go to t mobile an have them replace it,under warranty. the other option is to root an flash the new 2.3 update for the phone.
And just in case I may have suddenly forgotten how to time the two buttons, I tried downloading Play store apps (they dont need root, which i don't have anyway) and they indicate that my screenshotting service isn't active.
I've never tried to turn it off, but I guess there is a chance that installing some other app might have messed it up? the only other thing i could think of is that i might have killed a crucial process when i first saw how you could force stop apps and processses.
I've tried rebooting. no luck.

why can't I solve this? no one really can help???
this is my first android phone and i really expected there to be more help with this kind of thing
Android pro tip.
If your having a software issue that you really can't seem to fix, perform a factory reset. If that doesn't fix it, you've got bigger problems.

i have a noob question
how does factory reset work?
will it erase my photos and apps?
If you have your google account synced and all your contacts on your google account, the reset will put it to defaults and as soon as you sign in will re download your apps and contacts. At least that's what I have had happen. Make a back up externally just in case

PRESS and HOLD the volume down and the power for a few seconds and it should take a screenshot (maybe your not holding it down long enough). factory reset deletes everything off your phone's internal memory.

Factory resets from recovery don't do that.

Hi,
I am having some serious trouble with my note 3.
The basics of the problem are that the lock button seems to lock the screen but once pressed again it shows whatever was on the screen before, not the lock screen!? Holding the lock button does not come up with the turn off/reset options.
Another odd thing that happens along with this is that any application that is opened or closed the screen flashes black before opening up.
Along with this I have found that the alot of the native apps, including phone, contacts and most annoyingly, CLOCK, crash also. Making me late for work and rendering the phone useless unless I do a battery pull.
I will note that the most odd thing is that I contacted our business contract guy who who i expected to tell me to do a soft reset, told me that the supplier would swap out the phone?! That was last week and the new handset is showing early signs of the same thing.
Neither phones are rooted and I have not installed any unknown sources on the new handset to be sure it wasnt an outside source?!
Any help would be appreciated.

But why would the problem occur on two separate brand new devices?
because you have the same app on both phones :highfive:

Well some of my apps install straight onto the phone.
Do you think I should remove as many as possible and try then?
Same exact issue here

I am having this same exact issue. First happened when I installed a SanDisk Ultra CLASS 10. I thought the card was causing me compatibility issues so I returned it to amazon. This was just a few days ago. The only thing that worked to fix this issue was to remove the battery.
On the way to work today I suddenly couldn't play any music downloaded from Google music to my device. However, I could stream music that was not downloaded to my device. I also couldn't view any pictures in my picture gallery. I tried rebooting the phone and guess what -- I got the same exact issue as the original post above.
I wasn't going to mess with my phone while driving so I made up my mind that I was going to return it to verizon tomorrow. About an hour into work I picked up my phone and it gave me the onscreen instructions to swipe up to get flip board -- same instructions it gives you after a reboot. I then tried playing the same music that wouldn't play before and it played. I tried viewing pictures in the gallery that were inviewable before and they were now viewable.
I'd like to know what is going on too. I can't just give up to the fact that my phone doesn't want to work at certain times of the day so I just have to give it an hour.

The best thing would be to remove all non-factory apps. But yes, start by removing as many of them as possible.
(If that doesn't work, do a factory reset and cache wipe through the recovery menu, and don't restore a single app. (I'm not talking abouy the bloatware, we all have those.))
If there are no problems at that point, add back your apps one by one. (no restoring anything, make sure they are clean installs.)
Eventually you should run into whatever app is causing the issue.

I reset the system to factory settings and started arranging only the installed apps and widgets and I got the same lock screen issues.
This time the phone wouldn't go to the lock screen but it would give me the option to restart or shut down. I set it aside again and when I picked it up a few later it showed me the home screen wwith instructions on how to access flipboard -- as if it was reset! I have a warranty on mine so I'm gonna return it to verizon tomorrow or friday.
Hey guys,
HALP
Is there a good way to pinpoint exactly why my phone random reboots? So far I've already done a factory reset and it hasn't helped. Even with only installing basic apps (google apps, twitter/insta/snapchat/evernote)
Even with none of those apps installed, it would still reboot.
Tonight my phone was at 48%, I picked it up, sent a text message, put it down, picked it back up and it was on the Google splash screen rebooting.
I downloaded Catlog, will that help diagnose, and what should my settings be?
Thank you so much in advanced for any help yall can provide
PS, my phone has always been stock and never modded in any way.

Have you tried flashing the factory images, along with formatting the internal storage? Factory reset was a good idea, flashing the factory images is the next step. Do that and don't install any apps, if the problem remains then you're probably dealing with a hardware failure.

Is your case "accidentally" holding down the power button? This was my issue.
Boot the phone in safe mode and check if the phone still does a constant reboot... in case it does.. there might be some hW issue as you already got the factory reset part going...
SENT... isn't that enough
Thanks for all the responses. I ended up losing patience and sending it back to my phone insurance for testing/replacement. They were the last to take it apart for a screen repair so I'm hoping to pin any hardware issue on them and they'll replace it under the warranty of the insurance plan I purchased with them.
If they offer me a definitive diagnosis I'll update as well.
Cheers
