IMO the Nexus S is the best thing to happen to the vibrant no more being tied down to the shackles of tmoible or samsung, no my friends we shall suckle from the teet of google itself ....honeycomb no problem why all because of the wonderful developers here and the Recent release of a Phone so similar in specs that we r guaranteed awesomeness yes I realize that there will be some fine tuning needed but I for one can't wait for that sweet sweet gingerbread with no fillers.., no media hub clogging the arteries of smoothness, nothing but android the way it was intended, for now I sit patiently and way for the day to come when someone walking by will say is that a Nexus S ... No my friend.... no it's not...it's a Vibrant
Hopeful as I am, I have yet to see any devs say that it will be easy to port NS roms to our Vibrants. They're using different file formats so that may pose a problem. I do hope I'm wrong.

getting a full working port is definitely not goin to be easy as stated by supercurio. some of the most important components for a full working port is closed sourced and the GPS chip n method is different.
If the hardwere is close enough that its a easy port but things like gps and bluetooth arent working i can live with that.

It's not the Nexus S. Wrong data icon, gmail icon, and that's the3dman's version of the Nexus S live wallpaper. The stripe on the background is a little fatter than in the Nexus S screen shots and is missing some of the glow.

hmm.. wonder why Eugene would post a screenshot of someone else's rom. Doesn't seem like him but I guess time will tell.
I don't know....but this tweet from Eugene made me wonder even before he posted pics. And, even before that he stated right after releasing the Super I/O kernel that he was gonna chill and wait for the Nexus S Rom dump....It looks to me as if he is working on it in some capacity
Now as for all of us in the xda-dev community, we all need to be patient, respectful and let him and his team work.....Don't harass the guy to put out a half-ass alpha rom. Because everyone will be complaining about what doesn't work...and I personally don't feel like combing through 100's of pages of the same complaints as it will only piss people off and stifle the development process.

Yes. I think it was that it was the same chip but with a different antenna.
also something he tweeted, let's see if 2.3 boots this time, last time it did not. This tells me that he is indeed working on Gingerbread and not a themed Froyo.
According to Eugene's tweets, he has indeed gotten 2.3 up and running on his vibrant. I believe him

I'm using CM7 right now, as are many others on this forum. It's up to you if you think it's a daily driver or not, but it's there, right now.
Patience, there's two people working on it (not together) xboarder, and krylon. Its hard to make a 2.3 from scratch.
Cm7 should be out of beta for i9000 pretty soon. Just be patient.
Remember when people questioned if the G1 would ever get updated? You know... the 3 year old Grandpa of all Android phones.
IT is running a newer version of the OS than my Vibrant. Have faith and patience man.
The same old 2.2 roms passing around, people editing icons & backgrounds, changing boot screens & apps. But at the end of the day there all froyo. eugene's macnutR14 is the most customized rom. bionix is nice but doesn't have video calls on the dialer. you can metamorph, ninjamorph, flash, push, oc your phone but its still 2.2 froyo
I want to see all the 2.3 gingerbread affects on vibrant the scrolling animation, the crt animation the camera app, the downloads app where they at holla
I can modify my own 2.2 rom theres so many to take stuff from. stop playing with each others roms work on 2.3 are you guys devs or are you editors cause it looks like besides a few your all editors

Okay, I'm starting to get annoyed at these kind of threads that come from ppl that obviously have no clue in what it takes to build a ROM from the ground on up. Just because android is open source doesn't mean that samsung's kernels are and we pretty much need compatible ones for our ROMs to work. Meanwhile, there are at least 2 teams working on gingerbread ROMs right now. I dunno about you but I'd rather have a fully stable 2.2/2.2.1 ROM out while we have the source than to take my chances and possibly brick my phone on a bug infested build of gingerbread.

How will this help us epic users on may 8th?
The answer is still: We will have to wait and see how the source code from the Nexus is useful, which depends on which hardware elements it shares with our Epics.

While I do prefer the epic 4Gs looks the nexus a is a better handset in the end. I'm tired of constantly searching for that "perfect" rom. I don't see why you need to be insulting people who want to get a Nexus S 4G. It seems like a good phone for someone who wants to have the latest android releases immediately available to them. My wife is probably getting the Nexus S 4G as an upgrade from her HTC Hero. The main reason is that she loves CM7 on her Hero and I can't guarantee her CM7 (or future CM releases) on any other phone for sprint. You calling her stupid or in your words "nobody smart" is pretty ridiculous on multiple levels, but mostly because her reasons for getting the Nexus are sound.

That bug wasn't Nexus specific, it was common to android. One of the developers at Google made a blog post about it a while ago.

Yes the 3D is a gimmick but the specs of the phone is so tempting.

When I get a new phone....hopefully...soon, I'm not real sure what it will be. The Nexus just feels AWESOME in your hand but I'm used to the slide out keyboard. The GSII sounds awesome as well but we saw how the support was on the Samsung side plus TW makes development SO much more difficult.
The Nexus S 4G isn't really a step forward like the GSII or the EVO 3D will be. It would also be hard to leave the SAMOLED screen for Super LCD/TFT. Decisions...Decisions...
Been using a 3 years old Palm Pre and have been amazed at how it just works. The specs of the HP Pre 3 look to be pretty solid. I love how emails works correctly on the Pre. I hate the unreliability of email polling on Android in general.

no, i wouldnt. the fact that its pure google will make the updates roll out way quicker. and the screen is 4.0 inches. the processor is the same, but it comes preloaded with gingerbread.
the way i see it, i like my screen just the way it is. super amoled isnt that much diff from super amoled plus. the curved glass is just a gimmick. and it doesnt need to be that huge. plus i like the keyboard on our phones. ive had an all touch phone before and it drives me nuts.

No, I totally understand. I appreciate all the work that you guys do. I was just wondering if anyone knows what Epic users have to look forward to at this point. I know once the devs start tearing it apart it will probably reveal even more possibilities but at this moment I am just looking for any information that I can get my eyes on of what's down the road for us. Will this give us a chance at having a pure AOSP thats not CM7?
According to Phandroid.com, the Fascinate on Verizon is getting the Gingerbread Update!
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/01/samsung-fascinate-gingerbread-update-ready-to-roll/
Now T-mobile and Samsung, I have to ask, where is the Vibrant's update?
Galaxy S internatinoal got gingerbread.
Galaxy S 4G got gingerbread.
Captivate has gingerbread leaks.
Fascinate is getting gingerbread.
Vibrant Canada I think got gingerbread also.
So where is the T-mobile Vibrant Gingerbread????????????????????????
Might be more power full if posted in samsung website forum.

Imagine how better they'd be with Gingerbread source.
Eh doesnt matter anymore. We got devs doing ics, in a week or two more it'll run flawlessly.
wait.. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the fascinate the same hardware minus the modem (cdma)? if this is the case devs could just as easily rip all the files needed to complete our driver issues on GB. if not oh well.
I believe there is something different with the GPS drivers on the Vibrant, which is why we have so many great ROMs without very good GPS.
Seriously? Another rant about gb for the vibrant? Just flash an i9000 port, and stop complaining. Or get another phone. There are early builds of ics popping up already. the vibrant was one of the first to get an ics build actually....

I9000 ports are good, but I need gps daily. If Im not mistaken the only GB kernel that has GPS is about 6 months old. We get an up to date GB kernel with working gps and more will flood the I9000 ROM section.

I understand the need for GPS, but it's really a hit or miss with vibrants. I'll pretty sure i got the first run of units, so gps never really worked well for me, no matter what ROM I'm on.
Granted, if i use the gb bullet kernel, i can get a lock and even navigation, but it takes a while. I just use maps to give me directions, then follow them. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Granted, if i use the gb bullet kernel, i can get a lock and even navigation, but it takes a while. I just use maps to give me directions, then follow them. Simple solution to a simple problem.

I would agree. I also got one of the first batches of Vibs. I did the hardware fix and things got much better for me. Give it a look if you haven't tried it. May help.
Edit:
Note - my wife and I both got Vibs together. Mine has the hardware fix and hers does not. Mine locks A LOT faster than hers. She is on a 2.2 ROM and Im on Miui as well.

I tried the hardware fix myself, but only by bending the contact up. What exactly did you do to apply the hardware fix?

MIUI-NB edition has a working gps, no need for hardware fix. but go for an older release for more stability

Yep, I'm getting on iOS in January when I switch carriers...
Oh, you said ICS... My bad...
Sorry, ICS = Different look, same nastiness. UI Latency, Adware galore, inconsistent UI across apps, poor market policing, etc.
I'm to the point where I just want something that works. Android is starting to feel like WIndows Me to me now...

Everyone has a choice. Thats why I love Android and iOS. Both have their pros and cons. I am NOT a fanboy. I can point out both advantages for both platforms, and both have disadvantages.
I'm just glad this wasn't like 5 years ago where the only choice for a smartphone = iPhone. I did own a iPhone 3GS, jailbroke it, found nothing interesting to jailbreak except to pirate apps... which i pointless to me. I prefer android, it gives me a change. But again, opinions are opinions.
Tmoble already has the sgs 2 and the sgs 4g. Not to mention that the vibrant was discontinued months ago there's honestly no point in a business point of view updating a phone there not making any money on

And this is why we need source direct from samsung
CM DROPS VIBRANT SUPPORT DUE TO 911 INABILITY:
"We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code."

Now do you see why it is so important to have put pressure on Samsung/T-Mobile to release an update to Gingerbread? This is why! Developers are talented but they can't work miracles. We need source/drivers for proper 911 and GPS capabilities just to name a few.
