[Q] droid VNC server on UMTS - Galaxy Tab General

Hi all,
I have the droid VNC server installed. When the Tab is connected to my internal wifi the app works great using UltraVNC as viewer on my pc.
When it is connected to the mobile network via UMTS/GPRS, UltraVNC is not able to connect.
Maybe the Tab does not allow incoming connections when on UMTS/GPRS?
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Best regards

I believe most wireless carriers (in the USA anyway) block all incoming IP traffic to their wireless devices.
I could be wrong, but I've never been able to connect to my phone with ANY application (VNC, SSH, Websharing, etc) from my home PC.

Create wifi network on PocketPC (HTC Touch) to share it's internet connection?

Hi,
I don't think this is currently possible but I do not see any reason why? Does anyone know if there is a 3rd party app to provide this?
Thanks,
Phillip
Possible ! (Well somewhat)
This is very much possible. I got it working as follows :
(1) Create a WiFi connection on Pocket Pc with ad-hoc feature and Open Security, make sure you select "Work" as the connection.
(2) Give the WiFi adapter on Pocket PC an internal address similar to 192.168.0.2 (255.255.255.0)
(3) On your PC/Laptop set WiFi adapter IP to 192.168.0.1 (255.255.255.0)
(4) You need a program like Pocket PC Proxy to be installed on the Pocket PC.
(5) Enable proxy settings on Laptop as 192.168.0.2:80 (or the port set on the proxy prog on ppc)
(6) Enable WiFi on ppc
And Voila ! You can browse internet using the connection on your ppc.
Hi,
Thanks, I will give this a try. However, I can't seem to find this piece of software (Pocket PC Proxy). Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Here you go...
Thanks for the download, I'm using an HTC Touch (Elf) with WM6. I can't seem to figure out how to create an ad-hoc wifi connection?
(Sorry to be a pain but i think that this will benefit others too!)
Ahaa, I managed to figure out how to create an adhoc network on the Pocket PC, I assigned it the correct IP (as above) and basically followed the instructions.
I'm actually trying to get my iPod Touch to connect to the net via the HTC Touch.
I iPod sees the wifi connection and connects perfectly, I can even assign the ip and subnet mask. However, I simply can not connect to the internet either with or without the proxy. Any suggestions on what I am missing?
THanks
What kind of an internet connection do you have on the ppc ?
- GPRS/EDGE ? Is it always connected/on ?
Got it working, you can ignore the following
Thanks!

Hi, here is everything I have done:
Connections, Internet
Modem: T-Mobile Internet, GPRS (UK, no edge)
Proxy Settings: This network connects to the internet
This network uses a proxy server to conncet to the internet
149.254.291.132
(This was all set by the phone when I switched it on)
My Work Connection:
Nothing set up here
WIFI
Add New...
Network Name: test
Connects to: Work
This is a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection
Authentication: Open
Data Encryption: Disabled
This seems to create an ad-hoc connection and sits there with 'Connecting' until another device connects to it.
Network Adapters
My network card connects to: Work
IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible WIFI....
Edit:
Use specific IP address:
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
(Everything else blank)
Wireless LAN
SSID: test
Mode: 802.11 Ad hoc
Channel: 11
When I connect two devices together the IP shown under advanced seems to read 192.168.0.21 (I think this should end .2 so not sure why it isn't)
If I connect my laptop I can 'ping' 192.168.0.2 and that works but both my laptop and ipod touch do not seem to be able to connect to the internet.
On the ipod touch I simply get 'Server not found' or something similar.
(I have remembered to run PocketPCProxy)
Yes, the GPRS is connected whenever I run PocketPCProxy.
I would really appreciate any help you can give, I really like using the browser on my ipod Touch but don't really want to go the whole hog and buy an iPhone because it is so tied down and restricted.
Thanks,
Phillip
I don't know what I have done but suddenly it works, now it comes up and shows the correct ip on my pocket pc.
Anyway, thanks for your help!
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to ad-hoc connect my PC (Lenovo X60s with XPSP2) to HTC Touch via WiFi to be able to share files and stream music.
It did connect and pinged ok, however the two just refuse to see one another on their networks.
Does anyone have any successful experience trying for the same?
Regards,
Madana
I tried this between my TyTN and TyTN II, the latter being the gateway, but the TyTN insists on still using GPRS for its internet instead of the wifi. Very annoying, and it's runing WM5 so (i dont think) you can't turn of the GPRS like you can with WM6.
Does anyone know how to make it use wifi, and wifi only for internet?
Thanks,
Sebastian

Tilt VPN Connection Problems

I have been trying for about 10 days to get my Tilt to connect to my VPN with my AT&T service. One time only while connected to the usb cable was I able to connect VPN and then able to run Remote desktop. As soon as I disconnected the usb cable, the connection died and I have not been able to reconnect. never have I been able to connect wirelessly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
wireless as with wifi or with their cellphone service?
if their service then if they block the ports required there is nothing you can do
I have been trying with cellular only.
Hi,
Use pcAnywhere to connect wirelessly.
kiwi992.
Please excuse my novice choice of wording....
I meant to say that I am having problems connecting over the internet side of the device as a stand alone connection. I have not tried wifi. My needs are to reset a modem server running a dial up program. If I remote desktop through my vpn I can use my current setup that I have for normal pc remote access.
Thanks.
Andy
Since I am having no luck with VPN......
I have been trying to get PCAnywhere installed but for some reason the install will not even give me the "other destinations" option to install (pcanywhere ver 12). Active Sync is running but the install just doesn't see the device.
Can anyone recommend a good vnc program for use with my Tilt WM6 connecting to my Windows 2003 Server?
Thank you.
No luck with the vpn.... yet.
No luck with PC Anywhere....yet.
The good news..... I have found a pretty decent solution.
Ultra VNC was setup on my server. VNC+ was setup on my Tilt. After the proper router port forwarding...... it's all working like a charm!
Going one step further. Both vnc programs were setup on my work station and can be run simultaniously. I can access my workstation from my Tilt and listen for a another connection on my workstation. A customer can connect to my workstation as normal and I can access the workstation from my Tilt. By doing this I can control my customers desktop through my Tilt/Workstation connection.
An added plus... my workstation can access all websites normally and through the vnc connection, they appear normally on my Tilt (yes in a small way, but they appear just the same.)
A pretty good alternative without paying the service provider for any additional monthly fees.

Accessing SMB shares when using GPRS or 3G data connection troubles

Hi Folks,
I am having trouble trying to access any SMB shares when connected through 3G(or 2G) to my VPN. The VPN connects, and using VXUtils I can see that Host names resolve correctly to IP for my network, I can ping by host name and IP to my devices and I can do an ip range scan and it finds all the hosts connected to my home network. I can use RDP to connect to my XP machine through host name (With or without using pocket hosts) and I can view the setting html pages of my router through internal ip's but I cannot access any shares! Just to make matters a little more complex, if I connect through a wireless network (using the VPN) everything works fine (assuming it is allowing pptp passthrough)!!!
Oh yes, and the VPN itself and forwarding on the router etc is all fine as laptops and desktops can connect remotely (and of course so can I).
It is a Vario 3 on T-mobile.
Any ideas anyone? All I want to do is be able to access my SMB file shares (on a mybook world edition) whilst out on the move.
Thanks.

Tether and Multihomed Host

Hello All,
I am able to tether my device to my laptop and have no problems when not connected to another network via my internal network interface.
I was wondering what the proper TCPIP configuration would be to support using my tethered device to access the internet from my laptop at work (to avoid the corporate proxy), but still allow me to using my work network resources.
Currently, when I tether, I have to disable my laptop NIC. I think I am having a problem with my default gateway settings.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] connect to mac via shared airport.. then send ssh?

I'm trying to set up some awesome "living in the future" automation with tasker / connectbot, but I'm having some trouble. Perhaps someone here might have an idea how to sort this out?
My situation and what I'm trying to do:
At my work, we have many (mac) computers connected to each other over our local (wired) LAN.
In the room where I work, one of these computers is a mac mini.
From my phone, I want to be able to connect to this mac mini over wifi via it's airport. Once connected, I want to be able to send an ssh command from my phone to the mac mini. This ssh command would trigger a script on the mac mini that would send multiple ssh commands to various computers on the local (wired) LAN.
Does that make sense what I am trying to do?
Here is my problem.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to ssh to the mac over the shared airport connection. On the mac I have enabled, "remote login" (ssh), "Internet sharing", and "personal web sharing".
I'm able to ssh to the mini from another computer over the local wired lan network.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Was able to get this working using an Ad-Hoc network created by the mini... Not ideal, but it works.
