Tether and Multihomed Host - Networking

Hello All,
I am able to tether my device to my laptop and have no problems when not connected to another network via my internal network interface.
I was wondering what the proper TCPIP configuration would be to support using my tethered device to access the internet from my laptop at work (to avoid the corporate proxy), but still allow me to using my work network resources.
Currently, when I tether, I have to disable my laptop NIC. I think I am having a problem with my default gateway settings.
Thanks in advance.

Connecting through Wi-Fi with PPPoE?

Hello all,
I have just bought a Trinity, and was trying to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi... The problem is, I have to connect through PPPoE with a username/pw. Does anyone know how to do it on the Trinity?
Please note that I'm not too computer-savvy... I just know that my Windows-based computers don't connect to the internet automatically; I have to launch an application and enter a login/pw to connect. On my Mac, I have to launch airport AND 'connect through PPPoE' to connect. I heard there are wireless routers that have a PPPoE feature, and was wondering how that works? maybe I can just configure the PPPoE on the router, so that I don't have to go through the whole login process when connecting through Wi-Fi...?
Alternatively, is it possible to connect to the internet with the Trinity through my laptop's internet connection using Bluetooth or USB? (i.e. using the laptop as a "modem", not the other way around)
Thanks a bunch!
As far as I am aware the Trinity doesn't support the PPPoE protocol. What you will need to do is probably use internet passthrough with activesync. This is done by setting up your PDA with activesync, the passthrough should work automatically. If not try going to start->settings->connections->USB? (or something like that) and unchecking the box. I had to uncheck the box for passthrough to work.
The only other way would be to get the wireless router to do the PPPoE for you. This is what I do with my router, however the way to do it differs from router to router. You should check the manual to see if it is supported.

default IP address

Hello!
I have connected phone to PC and set 'internet sharing' on the phone, to have internet access on the desktop. It works well.
Then I connected other PC to that PC, both through LAN cards and set up home network.
Then I wanted to set up ICS (internet connection sharing) on the host PC, to access internet also on the other PC.
Problem is, that ICS is by default using address 192.168.0.1, which you can't change in winXP. And also my phone is connected to the host PC with the same address, which if I change, I loose internet connection on host PC.
How can I change this address which phone uses to connect to PC?
semi-bump.
Current setup: cable modem w/ wireless beams connection to my PC via wireless LAN. Modem is 192.168.0.1 on LAN, I'm .9, static. I want to setup ICS from my PC to my mob by bluetooth, as the wireless connection in my room is awful so I have to have a USB wireless adapter snaking under the door & out into the hallway.
Problem: ICS setup wants to host the service on 192.168.0.1 but that's the router & can't be changed. Is there any other way to do this? Cheers anyone.
can i circumvent this by connecting to the pc using bluetooth via activesync? won't i still need to setup ICS in the bluetooth config, or does activesynch overrule it?

Using your 6800 as a Modem for your Wireless Router

ive had my cable shut off for a few months now and have been tethering my 6800 to my laptop and PC for internet access. recently, a buddy of mine needed to download a large app on his iphone which required being connected to a wireless network. my router was still on for networking purposes but did not have an internet connection. then i discovered an incredibly simple way to use the data connection from my phone as an internet line for my modem, effectively adding internet access to my wireless router and allowing his iphone, my laptop, my ps3, and PC, all to connect to the internet. i thought this maybe useful for others, so here's how to do it:
Requirements:
XV6800 (or any WinMo phone) with tethering enabled
PC/Laptop w/ LAN connection
1) Create a Dial-up connection for your phone, if you haven't already.
2) Connect to DUN
3) Open Control Panel --> Network Connections
4) Right-click your DUN and select Properties
5) On the 'General' tab, highlight your modem and click Configure, then set the Maximum Speed to 921600 and click OK (not required, seemed to increase speeds though)
6) On the 'Advanced' tab (XP) or 'Sharing' tab (Vista), enable the checkbox for 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection' and click OK
7) Check the Status of your Local Area Connection. The IP address should now be 192.168.0.1
8) On your Wireless Router, move the LAN cable from its input jack into the 'Internet' jack.
9) You should see the internet activity light on your router light up and you are good to go!
NOTE: after sharing the DUN connection with your LAN, the IP settings for the LAN connection are set to a static IP of 192.168.0.1. You will have to change the IP settings back to 'Obtain IP address automatically' in order to have your LAN connection working properly again.
You can also get WMWifiRouter. It will uses the phones wifi to create an ad-hoc network and can tether via USB too. Version 0.89 is cooked into a few roms as it was one of the last free versions.
I have a Cradlepoint CTR-350 that I have been using so that I can connect with my PS3 and not need to set up connection sharing on my PC.

I've been using WMwifirouter as well. Have it on our Titan (xv6800) which my niece uses now. Had it on my HTC Touch Pro. And now I have it on my HTC Touch Pro 2.
I like the original posters idea alot too incase you didn't want to fork out $30 for the latest wmwifirouter software.
ah but as also indicated the last free versions work fine and do the same thing. I love using it on the go in my vehicle. My wife surfs the net while I drive on long trips.

weather update using USB connection

Hi,
I am new to windows environment .
I want to access internet on HTC HD2 using my laptop’s internet connection.
My laptop is connected to the network and I access internet on it using the proxy which is configured in my browser’s configuration.
I can connect my HD2 using usb as well as wireless to my laptop by making wireless connection on my laptop as wireless router.
What additional configuration should be done on hd2 or xp so that I can update my weather updates using this link.

you can set in the activesync or windows mobile center settings, to enable the data connection in usb connect
I found a fix which made my internet connection through USB work:
- Open Registry Editor on your PC (Start/Run and type "regedit") and locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.
- Right-click on the value list in the right site of window and choose New/DWORD value. Type the name "AllowLSP" and leave the value zero.
- Disconnect and connect your device and Pocket Internet Explorer (and all other applications) will start working.
thanks jawab for your reply.
i updated my registry in xp with the changes you suggested but no success.
i am able to connect to my laptop with usb as well as wireless. even i am able to get remote desktop on my hd2 but not internet.
can you please suggest something.
connecting thru activesync also doent help
regards

I'm sorry. For me I made the reg-change, connected the phone and wupti - there was internet through USB.
why not just connect your phone to your router via WiFi and use the internet that way? makes life a LOT easier
in my office my laptop is connected to wired network. there is no wireless
the only option for me to connect is using a USB connection or making my laptop as a wireless router.
both of them seem to be not working

[Q] Connecting to internet shared by PC with ethernet cable

Hi everyone,
I have Ideos X5 and I cannot connect to wireless internet shared by my PC. I share my computer's internet from network and sharing center using "Set up a new connection or network". Whatever securiy type I've chosen (none, wep, wpa) I cannot even see the shared connection in the wireless networks list on my phone. I can easly connect to wireless networks shared by access points or wireless modems but as I said I cannot connenct to the wireless connection shared by my PC. My PC uses ethernet cable to connect to internet.
Thanks in advance
Solved
I solved the problem with a third party wireless hotspot software instead of using windows' default wireless internet share method.
Can you explai who you did it?
Just searh for virtual router in google
The windows sharing doesnt create an AP (Acess Point) it creates an ad-hoc network, so in order to connect with you phone you have to use an software that creates an AP... one case of that software is: virtual router
