Every time I think there is absolutely no life left in this poor little phone, it always surprises me. I tried it on a whim after I got it working on my Tilt 2, with no expectation it would work. Ten minutes later I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics on my phone, and I don't mean it boots up and you have to deal with crippling lag or slowness, it's playable! On 5 frame skip it runs at about 45 FPS with and sound on!
Here is my set-up.
FPSEce 0.10
Omnia D3D Driver
HTC Performance to overclock to 624Mhz
PDAJ'S Clean WM 6.5 Build 21501 ROM (You can find it at PPCgeeks)
Only S2U2 and iContact Avian Edition are running in the background
I've only tested Final Fantasy Tactics due to having limited space on my memory card, but I plan on trying out a few more games. I also heard that disabling the sound can get you quite a few more frames per second, plan on trying that out. If anyone needs either the Omnia D3D Driver or HTC Performance cabs, I'll be more then happy to post them for you. Try it yourself and post the results.
Happy Gaming!
Niceee
That's pretty awesome dude, i would love to get PSX games running on my HTC Tilt 2.
you should see what gran turismo looks like on my expo running at 60fps.

Please do post it here. Is it needed to run FPSce? I Remember my old Ipaq 1940 could run them full speed without any drivers...
I hate how I spent so much money on the HTC Apache back in the day only so it could become a useless pile. I saw that post up there on a successful PSX game on the Apache and I got really excited.
I tried installing all that same stuff (the D3D driver, the overclocking utility, FPSEce) only as for the Apache's ROM, I used a custom ROM I built with PPCKitchen (it couldn't differ much from the 'clean' ROM, because you can hardly add anything to it because of the limited space).
I tried running Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and it didn't run past the "Press Start" screen. I was hoping that since the game is a fairly simple sidescroller, it would run on the Apache, but no luck.
So far (for me) the only emulator I've tried that runs well and plays smooth on the Apache is that PocketNester. The PocketSNES runs about like the DreamSNES for Dreamcast: only runs at an acceptable framerate without sound. I thought it would be better, since the Dreamcast runs at 200mhz and the Apache can be overclocked to 624mhz... Granted I've only tried these three emulators, but those were the three I knew I'd probably get the most use out of.
With this in mind, I figure a gameboy emulator would run perfectly also.
Anyone else tried PSXDroid on their G2?
I tried playing marvel vs capcom, chrono cross, and x=men vs street fighter.
Im using PSX4DROID v 1.3
The sound is super laggy and glitched and games are not running at 100%. However, i have read many comments taht say v1.3 is just a horrible version of the emulator. Anyone else playing and having a good experience?
How does it work?

With sound on, everything is very laggy. but i just saw this video on youtube and his PSX4DROID emulator is running much faster, so i think its the version i have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaYks8qHD1w&feature=related
Well try the older version... because you know its NOT the phone. The G2 is the most powerful android phone out there, period. Let us know your results... I was thinking about getting it but heard its too buggy for use.
When I first got the G2 I tried out Chrono Cross on psx4droid. It ran very well, although I did have the sound off (not a fan of annoying sounds while playing games on my phone).
But after updating psx4droid from the market yesterday, the emulator runs very poorly. Hopefully the dev undoes whatever he changed so that it will start running well again.

Yeah, it might be the update. From past experience with many emulators, sound off always runs better. The problem is not that the g2 can't handle ps games but it has to emulate them in a player than runs inside android if that makes any sense. In other words native games like nova or heavy gunner which are graphic equivilant to ps games run better because they run pretty much natively. Where ps games are ran inside a emulator coded to run natively in android. I know that explanation is poor but you get the point. The ps emulator is relatively new too compared to the others. But ps games are pushing the limits... have you heard if any N64 emulators that run well or at all yet?
well, either find a better warez source to update to 1.5, or stop being cheap and buy the app from market; sound is crappy, but when it is off ff9 and chrono cross run very smooth

Newest ver on the market is 1.5 (you know that though since you purchased it )
Ran 1.5 today w/ ROMS on class(6) and it was about the same performance I believe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802147
Haven't tested with sound much, but on my G2 with psx4droid 1.1 I've been playing:
FFVII
FF Tactics
Megaman Legends
all with no problems, great playability
I purchased it (support your developers, anusholes), but it does seem laggy and sound is glitchy when I play parappa the rappa. Haven't tried any other games.
I have had extensive experience comparing the galaxy phones to the g2 performance in psx4droid. First of version 1.1 is the fastest. It is also the buggiest. On psx4droid 1.1 the g2 does very playable speeds on all games but really heavy polygonal games like fighters and whatnot. Zodttd released versions 1.3 and 1.4 that were much slower while trying to fix bugs. Now 1.5 is the best balance. Only slightly slower than 1.1 but slow
enough to make a lot of games unenjoyable on the g2 while the galaxy phones are able to keep up. Side by side they are like 30 percent faster than the g2 in psx4droid. Im hoping for root soon so we can overclock.

Thanks, this was very helpful
i'm currently running Tmobile G2 overclocked to 1.45 GHZ using a root module, and unfortunately psx4droid 1.61 is playing horridly aweful =(. This was an upgrade from 1.5, which played phenomenially better than 1.61. In 1.5 if the CPU could not process enough power (logically), the game would be a little slower, however 1.61 has sound that is TOO FAST for ALL games, with slow graphics (wtf)?. So in other words, My sound for the game is INCREDIBLY fast, while the in game graphics are sloooww to a crawl. Is there anyone that's willing to host the psx4droid 1.5 apk for me to obtain? I've bought this emulator expecting only improvement, not drawback =(
I tried out the new game called Dungeon Defenders the first wave
its the first game using unreal engine on android and I used darkstone's superram
its really laggy
will there be anyway to make it run smooth or is this hd2's hardware limitation?
p.s/
anyway my personal opinion to superRAM.. is bad..only good thing about it is the booting speed. May I know why you guys call it super fast other then booting speed? because the previous rom I used, I used launcher pro and if I use launcher pro everything looked hyper fast, and I thought it would be hyper-hyper fast on superram but it was the same, so I was like.. ok.. then let me try live wall paper and speed. but it was same like previous rom choppy when opening application box. In other words nothing different.( but for quadrant score it scored higher then last rom) however game ran slower, like zenonia 3
previous rom ran without slowing down of speed but on this rom it is unplayable.
i am changing it.. No offense please.. its just my personal experience..

I thought it was tolerable. I am also using superRAM. I suspect the lag is due to the lack of RAM for the game. Maybe you should disable the RAM boot? I suspect that would improve the game performance and maybe overclock it to above 1Ghz. I am lazy to change my ROM again.
Use moto touch 4G Rom its best for 3d games nenamark 20.5, while superman I get 15.4
yeah dungeon defenders a bit laggy i use mdj froyo hd revo 1.2 with hastarin 8.6.
even oc to 1228 still lags a bit

Ye you are right, on ram builds only the navigating on the device is super fast, but graphics etc are choppy, like there is some display driver missing.. at least it felt that way last time i checked.. but the idea of ram builds is great. the disadvantage is, that you can only use an ugly no features builds for now :/
can anyone make a video to show us how laggy the game on HD2 is?
I tested it in Mdeejay 4.6 HD it was awesome. But in Gingerbread rc5 it lagged
oh no! I just bougth the Dungeon Defenders and have the darkstone 1.5 =/

i'm intrested too.. i've mdj gingerbread cyanogen mod 7 based v2.6 on nand (very very very great ROM)... but dungeon defenders is unplayable.. like 10 fps.. i'd know if it's my problem or it's normal... can someone post a video with a "game-friendly" Rom?
i know that HD2 has all the requierments to run great!
Dugeon defenders will never run fine or ok on the hd2, walking around and stuff is ok(about 10-15 fps thats what i guess the game runs about) but as soon as monsters come close to you its slows to a crawl 4-5 fps, the adreno 200 is just not powerfull enough to handle dungeon defenders, after all its the crapiest of all mobile gpus(with open gl es 2.0 support). if you whant to run dungeon defendr at a playable frame rate get ether an sgs(best choice of currrent phone until tegra 2 based phones come out) or any omap cpu based phones ie: cliq2, driod, milestone etc etc. btw out of topic but, the new Modern Combat 2 Black pegasus game, runs awesomely great on the snapdraogn devices, id say around 40-45 fps. so yea if you got some bucks buy it.
Hello fellow Tab owners,
Since yesterday afternoon I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v (GT-P7100). I really liked the device from the start, but was kind of dissapointed on the graphics performance. Whenever I opened the app drawer it wouldn't look smooth at all, sometimes sliding the homescreens would be slow as well...
So I thought that was a Honeycomb issue, then after installing Angry Birds I really felt let down. It was unable to run the game smoothly, while my DesireHD has no trouble at all. Whenever I pulled back one of the birds, or a lot of items were drawn on screen it wouldn't even hit 20FPS (guesstimation).
I went to find out what could cause these troubles, for that I needed my favorite app, SetCPU. I thought the CPU might be stuck on some frequency or something. So I rooted my device, and opened setCPU.
I'm not really a technical guy when it comes to developing for android devices. I am experienced with flashing roms on various phones, so the first thing I noticed was that the scaling was set to Interactive, I haven't seen that ever on any of the devices that I had. So I changed that bit and set it to "Set on Boot", then I did a reboot to be sure and *poof* it was blazing fast. No more delays or lags when opening the app drawer, and it was silky smooth.
Was this really the problem? You tell me, but I thought I'd share this with you since a lot of you seem dissapointed with their gaming speeds. All games run perfect now, Monster Madness runs great, Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, Dungeon Defenders... All run just fine right now.
Tell me about your experiences
Wait until Honeycomb 3.1.
I read from the Xoom forum, 3.1 really does improve the performance.
Visit the Xoom forum for more info.

I'm sorry, but did you actually read the post at all? :$ I'm trying to get a possible fix for our current 3.0.1 Honeycomb devices. I believe it will be faster with 3.1 but until then this might actually fix some of the lag issues

Hey Frico, post a rebuttal video showing how awesome your smoothness is.
even with setCPU in performance mode, I still get major lag in fruit ninja.. and I mean the phone version, not the thd one. however, I do notice the launcher being a bit smoother.

I will upload a video tommorow on how smooth it looks for me. Haven't tested Fruit Ninja non-thd. But in all angry birds versions the difference should be very very clear. Atleast, it was for me.
Right now, I'm off for bed. Keep me posted on all your experiences.

thats odd...angry birds plays perfectly fine for me I do have extreme lag in the home screen department though. When i first got it, i didnt have any lag at all with a loaded homescreen. One week later it takes 5 seconds to rotate and its very jittery. Going to try the setcpu settings see if that makes a difference. THanks for the idea

I put up a walkthrough on what I believe to be poor graphics performance on the 10.1 specifically. The Xoom, from what I have personally seen, does not replicate these issues.

i'm also very disappointed about the battery life! please, don't get me wrong, i love this device and i will never ever give it back again! but before my galaxy tab i owned an ipad, and i have to admit that battery life on the ipad is just awesome! more than 10 hours of heavy usage, weeks of standby.
with the galaxy tab i feel like the battery gets empty very fast, you can almost watch the battery indicator go down by every 3 to 4 minutes
and they promise a standby time of about 1000 hours! i don't believe my device will ever get any close to this! my guess is that after 3 days of standby it needs to be charged again.

Neither Acer Iconia A500 .
Is there a Tegra cpu inside galaxy tab?
Hello.
I have a general question I have been searching for on Google and the forum here. I am wondering if someone could tell me some areas that I will notice the benefits of overclocking. What I mean is, I understand it speeds up the CPU, but other than running a quadrant score (which means nothing to me really) where would you see the results to the naked eye?
Since flashing Lightspeed ROM and using Thor's Kernals it does appear that my internet pages load faster and the boot animations load faster. I think it seems like my thumb keyboards pop up a slight bit faster as well.
Are these the noticeable changes? Or are they just in my head since I am overclocking? (OR I think I am)
I am using SetCPU and have the Max set to about 1.5 and the Min set to 1.0 or 1.2 most of the time.
If someone could weigh in with some more knowledgeable information and possibly point me to a nice write up for Noobs like me who are interested in learning more about the benefits of Overclocking as well as maybe a guide for advice using SetCPU (or another App?) that is more recommended by those on here, I would appreciate it!
Thanks!!
Mine's takes about 30 seconds to boot from vibrate to lock screen if that makes any difference. OC to 1.5 using taboonay 2.0 with HV 3.4 kernal.
Mine defiantly seems to boot up faster. I do not play a lot of game on the tab, mainly just internet and movies, so I am not sure I am doing anything that would require such an increase in graphics speed that I am noticing the major differences. Right now I have mine set to about 1.4 and it is very stable with no problems. If I go to 1.6 I notice things start FC'ing more often.
HD playback has definitely improved since overclocking on 3.1, some 720p videos that suffered from random slow downs now play flawlessly with setcpu at 1.5 on performance mode, temps always stay below 35°c hours after being set to performance.
The rest is minor improvements.
