Anyone else tried PSXDroid on their G2?
I tried playing marvel vs capcom, chrono cross, and x=men vs street fighter.
Im using PSX4DROID v 1.3
The sound is super laggy and glitched and games are not running at 100%. However, i have read many comments taht say v1.3 is just a horrible version of the emulator. Anyone else playing and having a good experience?
How does it work?

With sound on, everything is very laggy. but i just saw this video on youtube and his PSX4DROID emulator is running much faster, so i think its the version i have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaYks8qHD1w&feature=related
Well try the older version... because you know its NOT the phone. The G2 is the most powerful android phone out there, period. Let us know your results... I was thinking about getting it but heard its too buggy for use.
When I first got the G2 I tried out Chrono Cross on psx4droid. It ran very well, although I did have the sound off (not a fan of annoying sounds while playing games on my phone).
But after updating psx4droid from the market yesterday, the emulator runs very poorly. Hopefully the dev undoes whatever he changed so that it will start running well again.

Yeah, it might be the update. From past experience with many emulators, sound off always runs better. The problem is not that the g2 can't handle ps games but it has to emulate them in a player than runs inside android if that makes any sense. In other words native games like nova or heavy gunner which are graphic equivilant to ps games run better because they run pretty much natively. Where ps games are ran inside a emulator coded to run natively in android. I know that explanation is poor but you get the point. The ps emulator is relatively new too compared to the others. But ps games are pushing the limits... have you heard if any N64 emulators that run well or at all yet?
well, either find a better warez source to update to 1.5, or stop being cheap and buy the app from market; sound is crappy, but when it is off ff9 and chrono cross run very smooth

Newest ver on the market is 1.5 (you know that though since you purchased it )
Ran 1.5 today w/ ROMS on class(6) and it was about the same performance I believe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802147
Haven't tested with sound much, but on my G2 with psx4droid 1.1 I've been playing:
FFVII
FF Tactics
Megaman Legends
all with no problems, great playability
I purchased it (support your developers, anusholes), but it does seem laggy and sound is glitchy when I play parappa the rappa. Haven't tried any other games.
I have had extensive experience comparing the galaxy phones to the g2 performance in psx4droid. First of version 1.1 is the fastest. It is also the buggiest. On psx4droid 1.1 the g2 does very playable speeds on all games but really heavy polygonal games like fighters and whatnot. Zodttd released versions 1.3 and 1.4 that were much slower while trying to fix bugs. Now 1.5 is the best balance. Only slightly slower than 1.1 but slow
enough to make a lot of games unenjoyable on the g2 while the galaxy phones are able to keep up. Side by side they are like 30 percent faster than the g2 in psx4droid. Im hoping for root soon so we can overclock.

Thanks, this was very helpful
i'm currently running Tmobile G2 overclocked to 1.45 GHZ using a root module, and unfortunately psx4droid 1.61 is playing horridly aweful =(. This was an upgrade from 1.5, which played phenomenially better than 1.61. In 1.5 if the CPU could not process enough power (logically), the game would be a little slower, however 1.61 has sound that is TOO FAST for ALL games, with slow graphics (wtf)?. So in other words, My sound for the game is INCREDIBLY fast, while the in game graphics are sloooww to a crawl. Is there anyone that's willing to host the psx4droid 1.5 apk for me to obtain? I've bought this emulator expecting only improvement, not drawback =(

Has anyone used psx4droid on their Desire HD? I can't help but notice choppy response and laggy gameplay, although it seemed to run much better on the desire and galaxy S. Any ideas? Has anyone tried?
The emulator runs horribly terrible for its V2 version, framerate runs at 30-40 fps and occasionally dips to 20ish. V1 1.7 runs much better but still the framerate seems to have more room for improvement.

Totally agree! I experience the the same frame drop.
But in my opinion the problem comes from the roms. I tried dozens of roms, they all make my HD slower, I don't know why.
The first rom 1.32 (when I bought the phone) was the best!
It runs great on mine. Have u got anti alias turn on? I found that Rele slows it down.

Where is that setting?? I see nothing about AA in options.
For me it runs quite crap aswell. I was looking at videos of other phones and it runs much better on SGS. Maybe it's not optimized for DHD?
Anyway, Fpsece has been announced and it will be released soon. This is a port of a WM6 PS1 emulator which is extremelly good on WM platform and looking at videos, this will be the one to play PS1 games on Android.
Check it out: http://pocketnow.com/android/legendary-fpsece-playstation-emulator-ported-to-android
When I ran the free / lite version, I actually thought it was somewhat playable ... but then I bought the full version and that seems to run very slow .....
Hopefully when we get the Playstation Suite / Store and Sony's official emulator, things will work fine. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play runs the same Qualcomm CPU / GPU combo as the DHD ....
I also have the same problem, runs very slow.
We won'y have to use psx4droid much longer. A developer has been working on this:

runs pretty well on my DHD, as mentioned earlier turning off anti-aliasing helps alot and overclocking to 1.5ghz helps alot
I've tested this is on FFVII & MGS

Yes thats true, but until the playstation suite is actually released, we have to use an alternative.
i tried the v3.0.7 on my dhd with a bichon rom (v3.3). it doesn't run at all ! i tried .bin and .iso image, but nothing works. Is there anything to do ?
So schrtuck is porting his amazing PS1 emulator from WinMo to Android. There are some videos on youtube he posted and it seems to run really really well.
Finally an alternative to the busted PSX4DROID.
I'm pretty excited about it!!!
I'm really excited for this. PSX4DROID is not so good and Fpsce on WM ran really awesome so if this is just as good we can expect to be gaming PS1 games without much hiccups
I've tried contacting sctruck (the dev of FPSE) to ask him if there's a price yet and is it going to be available on the market but no response yet.
Also asking him if it's going to have GPU accel for those of us with a Droid/Milestone.
I have used FPSEce on the HD2, I had it for quite some time and it's superb I have literally just tried FFVII on PSX4DroidV2 on my Desire and it's terrible, it doesn't use the full screen, I can't force the resolution and it runs at about 15 fps despite it saying 50+.
Rollllll on FPSE for Android.
I can't wait for this

thank goodness.. psx4droid = bad. i remember fpsece on winmo, it was awesome
Just a quick update. Schtruck has stated that A) if android's GPU API works well enough, Cortex A8 based devices (droid/milestone/droid x) are going to perform as well if not better than current gen Snapdragons.
(I might hope that if you're running 2.3 which has a better GPU API, it's going to run even better).
B) It's going to cost 5 bucks or maybe even less.
Any news on when it's arriving?

I'd pay double that if it works as well as it did on WM.

I'm very excited. I can get FF7 and CC running at 60 fps if I OC my Droid X to 1.25 GHz, but it lags on occasion and I don't like psx4droid's virtual keypad.
Think the save states and memory cards will be compatible?

I'm not sure about stats, but memory cards should be compatible since psx4droid uses standard memory card files that are also recognized by ps emulators for pc.

Crash bandicoot 3 works SO much better than it did on PSX4Droid - no freezing bug. I've not tried any other games yet, so if anyone else has used the emulator please tell.
Also, the amount of customisation is brilliant!

The market webstore is brilliant for installing apps you can't see on your phone/tablet.
tried it on hd2 oced, it's super fast Almost no lag at all on crash bandicoot 3 ,with which psx4droid was veeery slow! Now if it wasn't for hd2's known multitouch issues, gameplay would be perfect
Has anyone tried it on a Vibrant/Captative/Galaxy S???
I just noticed that the only decent games my hero can run are squibble, speedx, and minisquadron. Everything else i have either runs like crap or arent worth mentioning. How do the rest of you get by? I wish i could play angry birds and fruit ninja. What quality games do you guys play? Really thinking of getting the desire s or if i can hold off long enough then some <4 inch screen dual core htc phone
First of all, is your phone rooted?
When your phone is rooted, you can put faster roms on it, like Cyanogenmod 6/7 or roms based on Cyanogenmod. The next thing is, that when your phone is rooted, you can overclock it, so it will run faster not only the menu's and stuff, but also games
If your phone is already rooted, try checking out some other roms, or maybe there is a whole lot of crap on your phone, maybe much background processes.
Because fruit ninja works fine on my hero not greatsupersmoothomgawesomeness but it works really well ^^ it's really playable..
And if you want to play angry birds, you have to search on google for a modded version, this version has alot of textures removed, and is ALOT smoother, I mean really alot try it
Goodnight ^^,
yep its rooted running kimera2.1 with flykernal12 running at 672 mhz. I cant live without sense so im kinda stuck. I mean yea fruit ninja is playable but it is horrible compared to the iphone version, combos make it lag. What version of angry birds are you running? Im still on 1.3.5 before the laggy textures were added. its playable but i havent tried any newer versions since they prolly arent playable. Have you tried the newest version wit the graphics toggle?
youre on 2.1 rom? no wonder it lags so much. android 2.2 introduced Jit which gives it a 2x speed boost. you should consider a 2.2 rom or maybe even a 2.3 rom. youll notice a difference straight away, speed wise

I feel like a big part of some of us getting the Epic was the fact it had an excellent Gpu and would make a great gaming device. Now that its out and we have our froyo, I think its a good time to start a thread about gaming on our phones. I think we should post vids of games running on our phones and share it with the world so they can see how powerful our phones really are. Im going to start getting a bunch of games and recording it, listing whether im overclocked or not and what rom i was running at the time. Feel free to add you own videos and comments
Heres a few to start off with: I will try to update regularly. Im also open to suggestions
Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus - Midnight rom v5.1 - no overclock

I converted my phone to ext 4, I am able to play perfect dark longer without too many crashes, and goldeneye is smoother at 1.3ghz. still testing between kernels to see which is best..
You can probably use the video option of the shoot me app to record the game directly from your phone. Probably get better vid quality

really.. i was looking for a video capture app. ill check it out. thanks
just tried it.. it works ok.. but the videos arent smooth so you cant really get the full affect of the game
I think the way you are going it now is good, shows how the controls work with the on-screen controls.
ok so F Zero (n64oid) at 0 frame skips with SFR ext 4 and Vision Kernel 1.0 (set at 1.3ghz on demand, performance and 1.4ghz crashes on me) runs really well.
also, Goldeneye is now playable! , still choppy here n there, but much much less than before. it does depend on your rom, I tried a few other goldeneye roms from before. I dont think this site lets me post it up so...
the dump is located in this forum under Xperia Play, be sure to download it. Downloading mine right now, hopefully we can use their PSX emu, games, etc.
Also with Goldeneye and Pdark, the games tend to make the emu crash or become frozen. My kernel didnt like it either so had tons of data corruption I think, just switched back to twlight kernel. If your phone can handle the vision kernel, then use that for gaming..
Goldeneye doesn't really crash for me but it gets REALLY slow after a certain point.. as for psx, I've been using FPSE and it works pretty dam good. I've been playing metal gear solid perfectly.. controls are a little tricky at first though

Even half a year from now, the Epic will still be near the top tier of phone hardware. There are actually games out there that run well ONLY on phones with the Epic's specs. Market reviews will show you that pretty quickly.
Trying to make my Eris as gaming friendly as possible so I can give it to my son when I get my new phone. Are there any ROMs that can play the newer games fairly smoothly? Running Tazz's Ginger Sense, and it can play games like Angry Birds 'ok', but I was wondering if there are any others that are more optimized for that sort of thing.

Honestly, from my experience the biggest issue you are gonna have is the hardware: CPU, RAM and graphics. Although you can overclock the CPU, up to ~768mhz i think is the best you will probably get stability-wise, games like Angry Birds are still going to have performance issues and the battery drain is gonna be much greater. Forget flash if you are going to use Froyo or GB ROMs. Flash is even still pretty limited on 2.1 ROMs like xtrSENSE
If your son loves playing games like that a lot, you are better off getting a used Incredible 1 for him or something like that. The Eris is a good phone once tweaked but even it has it's limits.
