MWC Barcelona 2011 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Allright, MWC is coming in a few weeks time. MS will be there for sure, maybe to anounce the NoDo update.
So, who is living in the neigbourhood and is going to flash their HD2 with WP7?
If we could gather some members it might be even cool. Maybe set up a stand outside and in front of the exhibition. Just a day hanging out. Maybe we can have some publicity as well, engadget? pocketnow? Maybe Joe or Steve Ballmer will drop by. Just to see how dedicated we are...

November the 5th

I know this is off the topic of one of the greatest phones ever...But I wanted to wish everybody a happy November the 5th and remind everybody to go watch V for Vendetta today. That is such a great movie. Have a great day.
"Remember, remember, The fifth of November, The gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason Why the gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot". But what of the man? I know his name was Guy Fawkes, and I know that, in 1605, he attempted to blow up the houses of Parliament. But who was he really? What was he like? We are told to remember the idea, not the man, because a man can fail. He can be caught. He can be killed and forgotten. But four hundred years later an idea can still change the world. I've witnessed firsthand the power of ideas. I've seen people kill in the name of them; and die defending them. But you cannot kiss an idea, cannot touch it or hold it. Ideas do not bleed, it cannot feel pain, and it does not love. And it is not an idea that I miss, it is a man. A man who made me remember the fifth of November. A man I will never forget."
I'm going to celebrate 11/5 by sleeping all day, then maybe treat myself to TacoBell for dinner.

Flash before the end of the second quarter?

It seems Adobe's CEO words were taken out of context:
http://phandroid.com/2010/04/19/flash-on-schedule-to-arrive-on-android-before-second-half-of-2010/
Another lie from Adobe?
I wouldn't say another lie as much as media reports going ape-youknowwhat.
So many things get taken in and out of context in the tech realm, that I never really give it much credence until I hear confirming stories.
all signed up for the Beta, i'll just wait and stop listening to rumors!!! HAHA
I quit believing/expecting it when it was supposed to be released in October 09.

Thank god.
Yet ANOTHER delay was making me say F-U to Adobe.
A) Omg I want beta to come out so badly. The first person to get it will post the APK and it'll be smooth sailing from then on
B) If they release a fully working Flash 10.1 before Apple's event in the summer (and hopefully on the EVO 4G!!), you can kiss the iPhone goodbye
Much like the guys at CoreCodec...Ill belive it when I see it.
Both are notorious for non-delivery. Sadly two key additions to Android are in there hands.
Well now that Adobe has made a HYUUUGE deal of correcting EVERYONE that they will in fact release Flash by Q2 2010, they better damn well deliver.
Can you imagine how bad it will look (as if their delays don't look bad enough) if they delay it past Q2 2010?...

Apple iOS4 announced today has hard release dates/N1-Froyo release date still eludes

Apple did a good job selling it's next product, as usual. it announced a product and with it a firm release date in the very near future.
In contrast, Google screwed up the FroYo release as much as they possibly can. Google I/O announced FroYo on May 20th, with no firm date for release. That was just a few days short of three weeks ago.
Okay, so I am not worried about it to the point that I am ready to go all iPhone on your butts, I am just pointing out that Google has a lot to learn about rolling out a product.
They absolutely do.
Google is acting like a bunch of freaking amateurs.
I'm not the least bit interested in the iPhone, but I am jealous that they guys running Apple seem more professional and capable than do the folks running Google/Android.
It's embarrassing.

Honestly, I feel the same way. Google I/O was great, but it was all just fluff. We didn't get anything solid. Nothing. Google can take some lessons here about giving people something they can hold on too. "Few Weeks" is not enough. I think one of the main reasons that people aren't out in front of Google with pitch forks and torches is that they "leaked" a 2.2 early release so we have a taste of it and something to play with.
All in all, I agree with you 100%, Google has a lot to learn.
On the flip side -
Apple introduced iAds today like they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well, hold the phone (lousy pun intended - deal), those little banners consume data. No biggie data is unlimit- whoa wait. Not it's not. Not anymore on Apple's carrier of choice in the USA.
I don't care how little data those little banners use - to promote a system that not only allows their use but encourages it at the expense of a user locked into a tiered data plan is reprehensible. Does anyone else see an ethical problem with this?
Then there is the practical issue - a user is at the hairy edge of his allotment without buying more data - well except for those pesky little banners that put him over the top. Nice job, Steve Jobs, you butthole.
Likewise, I think any Android PAID app should have all ad banners removed. I know this is a common practice, but it should be a rule. No app with banners should be available at all without a paid counterpart without banners, IMO.
Well sure we don't have a solid release date yet... but we also get more updates then 1 per year. Think on the bright side. At least Froyo 2.2 is already out, if not officially. I don't understand your complaining. Android can already do what the iPhone is just not catching up to.
If our Androids ran on Apple time... we wouldn't see 2.2 until next January. Again, be happy you don't have to wait that long. Be lucky we get what we get. Plus 2.1 runs great anyway.

No, not complaining, stating some facts.
Apple = Solid release dates announced
Google = Vague mentions to releases that are coming "soon".
What should Google do? Follow the Apply model? Announce it 4 months ago, which is what Apple did, then wait until you release a new phone (which actually have hard dates) to launch the new OS... so if Google did this, we would be waiting until the Nexus2 to get FroYo. Sounds great guys! Not...
Take a nap or something.

Period.
And they sure as hell shouldn't have released it to the freaking press who didn't pay a dime for their Nexus.

Simple facts...
Apple= Announcing new phone!
Google= Software update
Two different things. Google gave a firm date for the Nexus One.
And when has Apple ever given a firm date for a software update/bug fix? Oh, wait, they haven't... they have only ever given firm dates for new phone releases, and then said the exact same stuff Google has, that the new OS will be available shortly for other models.

I am just saying that Apple has their act together when it comes to product launches. Google does not. People had a much better understanding of what's coming and when with Apple's Keynote than they did at Google's. It left a lot less speculation and release anxiousness on the table. That makes for happier customers.
No doubt I'd rather be using the version of FroYo we are already looking at than iOS4. That wasn't my point.
Since Apple is now in the ad business (some vague 60% number thrown out there), why not get into the hardware business google?
HTC is a good manufacturer but lacks the innovation needed. Sony designs well but moves at a snails pace and makes horrible decisions.

Very true. And on the flip side of that - Your responsible for yourself as well. So act like an adult instead of getting everyone tense on the forum with childish behavior.
I wouldn't be upset really. Tom Petty did say it best when he said "waiting is the hardest part". However if Froyo isn't finished, then we need to sit back and chill for a little while longer. I would be really mad if we get it (example) July 4th weekend and absolutely nothing has been added or changed.
Looks like we are all in wait and see mode..
Google needs to get it's act together on android. Microsoft is going to come after them, not apple not RIM. Microsoft and Google are aiming for OEMs and OEMs have already complained about google's way of releasing android updates.
I was shocked when Andy Rubin said that they don't have road-maps for version release. Google needs to look at Mozilla for their planning.

That jackass... you want to bet they are officially announcing no more updates for X10 after this year
well i read somewhere yesterday that SE is planning to provide updates to the X10 throughout its lifespan so that the phone is not antiquated easily.
now i wonder what is the lifespan of x10 according to SE..!!
Maybe this is where they announce the release of a future device with a new design and actual up to date software?
Yes its going to be called the psphone
Grand opening and he is drunk?
Mmmm are we getting android 3 before psp2?
Sucks for psp department, cos se are lazy ass.

Could possibly be an SE WP7 phone and/or a new android phone. Could be the 'rumoured' Xperia X11 and Xperia X12. Would hope there is continued support for the X10 announced regardless of what happens.

How about skipping the conspiracy theories?
An X12 (or whatever they'll call the +1 version) preview would seem likely or perhaps even an updated roadmap for the year 2011. All nay-sayers seem to enjoy that we haven't gotten any info about Froyo and use the 2010 roadmap to support their thesis that we won't get it at all.
But on the other hand you can take the "SE is not pure evil" route and consider that the 2.2 kernel was trickier than anticipated to port and thus delayed. It's not impossible that we could get Froyo in 2011 and shipping that in 1H 2011 could be considered a big thing.

Exactly.
I think that SE may have got their act together (in thinking about software as well as hardware), and are maybe waiting to update to the next android revision (2.2+) or they've had problems with porting froyo, as you say.
But I think that they will also release newer phones around march to halfway through next year, that'll be announced in the next few months.
I think the X10 is supposed to have a 2 year lifespan... No?

I would be willing to bet that they will announce the release of their latest must have device. It will be such a draw that X10 owners will forget that they are still waiting for their revision to be completed. We will all rush to have this new must have device with nearly all the bells and whistles. Only, we will have to wait a bit longer for a software revision that will take, oh about forever, or just long enough for SE to announce their next latest and greatest. Which will also make you forget that you are still waiting for your current devices revision. and so on, and so on, and so on.
This is like da ja vue.
It is starting to bare more than a strong resemblance to what happened to me with the P900, P910, and X1.
The cynic in me says hey, we cant update the x10 as we thought so chuck out a new model for our loyal customers to buy...... i only had mine cos voda said new firmware sept. Oh bugger nuts!

Edit- Sorry, to answer you question. I actually might, if it were truly great. But believe me I would wait several months for the product to be tested by the market, and only if the device is release as planned. No more broken promises. I would rather have a lesser device with a company that is more straight forward!

seems to be that way since long time...!!
I predict WP7 devices, some feature phones and two new android phones that will look amazing and have everyone thinking about them until they come out at the end of 2011 once every other manufacturer has surpassed any glitzy features they came up with to make you want them now.
Does this sound familiar?
At the moment I'm interested in what they will do for their next hardware. I've got my x10 and as much as I'm frustrated at the way its been produced and the laughable software updates i still like it so much more than my HTC Touch Diamond.
Its clear that wanting to level with the other android devices simply isn't going to happen so lets all get on with waiting out our contracts and hope the next SE android device really kicks ass.
SE is sitting on the key brands that make a top multimedia device and simply needs to stop holding back on features from the Cybershot and Walkman brand rather than coming up with the smoke and mirrors of Timescape and Mediascape. If these apps must continue to be part of the Xperia line then have them as apps instead of welded in bloatware.
I wish there was some way of making sure that this happened but it seems that we can petition and moan on blogs and forums until we're blue in the fingers but in the end SE will do whatever they want and that tends to have nothing to do with what we the Geek consumer wants.
I'll stay hopeful.

Spread the Word.. Get us noticed

Hello all,
I am usually not one to make a big deal about things but I am really unhappy with Dell. If they were not ready with a quality device they should have just passed on having a launch event.
I figured it would be good to try and get more info out there since there are so few of us that have been dealing with this issue of the engineering samples and now bad returns. May not help us but you never know. If more sites have news about this maybe Dell will start to take notice since I have tried to get the news to all the Windows Phone sites that I have been reading.
WPcentral.com
Pocketnow.com
WmPoseruser.com
EverythingWM.com
Tmonews.com
I have also sent some info to jkontherun.com
Hopefully if word of what is going on spreads a bit more Dell will say something.. anything..
If Dell isn't ready with the Venue Pro then I'd just let Dell take their time to come up with a polished product. It's clear that they were not ready for the November 8 soft launch. The decision to rush the phones to Microsoft stores led to this PR fiasco.
It's just a phone. It's not the end of the world. Dell isn't forcing anyone to buy their phone.
I don't want them to rush anything.. I want the exact opposite.. If they get bad press from all of this they might think twice about releasing a product this way again.
I really want them to take a good few months to get it right before they try and launch again.
I'd like for them to just quickly tell us if this is a week long fix for them or a few months, I'm betting it's a few months now and I may just end up getting a Focus by Dec 1st
I think they are going to take their time trying to please us, they have a bigger computer market to worry about. They are going to what they do regardless
I believe between this site and references to this site from various techblogs as well as comments in Twitter have gotten Dell's attention.
Although I got my wife the Focus, I have decided to give Dell an opportunity to correct itself with a fixed product to release. Having said that, I may reach a point where I just might wait until first of next year to see what other devices Samsung and others have up their sleeve. Frankly, the hardward/spec on all the current WP7 phones are near end of lifecycle products (except the screen) on teh DVP and Foucs) so I'm kind of at a point where I may just skip the Venue Pro all together and wait for the next gen devices.
Hell, I've waited 1.8 years for WP7, what's another 2-3 months... All this goes out the window if Dell has it available in December. If later, I'll just wait.
If you do currently own a DVP and have issues, call Dell mobility and have them issue you a service number. They are escalating all issues to management. That would at least show that you as a consumer are concerned and will hopefully get them in contact with you once they have some news. The number is 18003083355

I would certainly hope that a post would not sway corporate decisions like that. My hope is that Dell or Microsoft says something about the status of the product. At the moment the MS stores are still showing them but not saying anything about availability.

I am with you on this, I made a point about the poor specs and build quality on the HD7 and got criticized buy a few.
It seems that most think the current specs are fine.
Personally I would like better all round specs not 2 year old tech like the HD2 has. After all it is nearly 2011.
It has been frustrating trying to get a WP7 phone with the specifications I like.
