Hard Reset

1. download MemMaid (trial version works for 15 days), and use two functions: 'Clean' to delete unnecessary files, 'Storage Usage' to check what's eating your memory
2. do some searching here on xda on how to move IE and Opera cache to Storage Card

you are probably on Rom 3.14 and still have HSPL on it , remove HSPL and it should be fine.
after that if you still want HSPL then use HSPL3

Did I miss something? WTF how are you all giving him advice without knowing basic info? Its bad idea trying to help people without knowing what they run in first place.
To OP:
Which platform, rom?
Which HD2-US/HD2-EU?
If you are using WM then you can use ClearTemp app. Also you might want to get some more memory extended rom in that case if your default available memory is that low. Also try manually changing your cache folder for browser and other apps to /sdcard. So they don't take space on your internal memory.

Where to Install an Application : ROM or Memory ?

Hi Pug,
thanx for your all post and help. I want to know that, Do I need to install an application in ROM, becuase As far as I know If I install app in Memory then it will be lost if my device run out of Battery/Backup Battery, Correct me If am wrong.
Q1. So my query is, If above is true then can I install an app in ROM if so then how, please suggest me complete steps, becuase I know on my O2 XDA IIi (WM2003 SE) there must be free sapce in ROM. Also let me know If I can know how much free space left on ROM/ExtROM.
Q2. Is is true that an application installed in Storage, will also preserve when battery run out from device ?
Waiting for you response.
Arun
The backup battery support all the storage memories. If ever the backup batteries run dry, everything will be wiped out regardless of where you store it, with exception of a storage card (",)
Not really. If the files are placed in internal storage (flash) folder, they will remain even after hard reset. The problem is that many apps need registry entries to run properly and after a hard reset registry returns to factory state.
sorry for the misleading error

Storage question?

Great forum guys...already have had some fun modding my 8525.
I'm a convert, new to WinMo, been a Symbian supporter for 5+ years...so WinMo is new to me.
I have a noobish question. I've been loading ringtones, and .cab files onto my phone and seem to be running low on storage.
1. How do I tell how much space is left on my phone?
2. What files can I delete to make some room for important stuff?
I've searched the forum...but haven't found anything conclusive yet.
Thanks!
xj
I can answer the easy question...
To find how much storage you have go to START\SETTINGS\SYSTEM\MEMORY then select the main/storage card tab.
If you're running out of memory you can try unlocking and unhiding the extended rom which should give give you a few extra MB's. Most of the cooked WM6 roms here include Schap's advanced config which will do this for you (or maybe it can be downloaded as a cab file).
As for deleting files - the only safe ones I know about are my data files, unused programs (via uninstal) or some ringtones or other sounds in the windows or windows\rings directory.
to check your memory go to start>settings>system>memory then on the bottom theres 3 tabs..Main, Storage Card, and Running Programs..
Under Main you have Storage and Program.. Program is your ram and storage is your device memory which you can install apps to. Go to running programs and you really should only have activesyn running (if you have an exchange account that is). Anything else open is eating up your ram and will cause your device to run slow.
Now on the bottom of the memory settings it says Find large files using storage memory. Click on find and you can remove whatever you don't want.. (i don't think it'll pull up system files in the search)
My advice is to only install critical apps and apps that will be running on your today screen onto the device itself.. everything else should be installed to yoru Storage card.
If you don't delete cabs after installing them, move them over to yur storage card if you want them for later reference but they shouldn't be taking up device memory after they're installed.
thanks for the input guys, already helping me out. I look forward to being a contributing member of the forums...I'm gonna check out the wiki and sticky threads in more detail to get all the info I can.
Thanks again

installing programs on Diamonds (memory question)

As all us Diamond owners know all too well, we are dealing with a pathetically small amount of main memory. I've got virtually no aftermarket apps installed, and my main storage memory only has about 20MB left.
Two Q's
1. Is it possible to uninstall bundled apps? When I go to "Remove Programs" I only see the apps/cabs that I've installed aftermarket.
2. Is it adviseable/possible to install apps to the internal storage card? I've always been under the impression that programs should go in the "partition" where ...\Windows resides, but that may not be true.
Thanks.
1. yes it is possible if u cook your own rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413782
2. why not ? (you wore wrong )

Every app I install goes in the Internal Storage because, well, what's the point of having 4GB of memory and not using it? I did the same with my previous XDA IIi; everything went onto the external memory card and it's never caused any problems.
cool, sometimes it's good to be wrong!
no way am I cooking my own ROM though. I would totally find a way to screw that up.
no other way to remove pre-installed apps?
and additionaly why install apps??? I have quite a long time apps folders on my internal storage with shortcuts in windows folder and they WORK so I saved space and as bonus doesnt screw up system with aditional installs after HR...

bingo boingo!
Install apps onto the internal storage and create shortcuts in \windows with total commander. It saves memory space and also headache from reinstalling apps after flashing a new ROM.

Problem with Device Memory (Lack Of) on HD2

I have a very puzzling problem. When I first got the HD2 I installed a few cabs directly to the device. Due to this the device memory very rapidly became used up, which resulted in me having to delete some stuff and re-install to the 2GB SD card. Following this, I think I had about 25mb of free Device Storage on the phone. I now only install cabs etc direct to SD card, today I have roughly 1.4GB of free space on the card.
Imagine my dismay, therefore, when today, having installed 4 or 5 cabs, one being somewhere in the region of 44mb, I'm now completely out of device memory, even though I've installed directly to SD card. My device memory is now showing 0.00mb and I'm constantly getting the annoying 'low storage space' messages.
Any help would be much appreciated.
edit: The 44 mb cab I mentioned has not been installed to phone as apparently it won't let me due to lack of device memory, even tho I'm trying to install to SD card???
Also, when I go into Remove Program setting, all the cabs etc which I've installed from day 1 are listed there, no mystery there! Thing I don't understand is that they are all listed as being installed to phone internal memory. Even though when installed I specifically selected Storage Card and NOT device memory.
What's going on??
Anyone got any info on this please?
Does the SD Card have a program files directory, and are your apps there?
I'd very much like to point the OP to the EDIT button at the bottom of your posts... use that instead of spamming your own thread
Anyway, keep in mind some things:
- some devices come with a lot of useless stuff preinstalled, that steals precious internal memory free space
- some cabs may decide to copy their files over to internal memory even if you choose to install to SD card, depending on how they have been set during creation
- you can have a larger free space by flashing a "clean" custom rom, with base WM, manila, and nothing else, and easily add only the apps you really need (the rom I use in signature is one of those, unless you are on a 1024LEO in which case it would brick your phone)
- unless you install heavy apps (44mb is usually for bigdictionaries, encyclopedias, or images collections, in which case SD is the way to go) most apps SHOULD be installed in internal memory for various reasons

Thx for reply.
Yes, and the files which I installed today, and now deleted, were in the program files on the SD Card, but it still impacted on device memory. I've now deleted the files I put on today but device memory is only indicating just over 3mb available. Prior to today I'm sure I had about 25mb free. Don't understand it??

Thx for the above tip re: edit button. I didn't know you could use it to add to your own thread. I do now so won't be making that mistake again.
I take on board what you say and thx for your various points.
I just think that if you have an SD card, why not use it instead of cramming up the precious internal memory? Prior to today I had approx. 25mb free internal space. This went to zero internal space after I installed a few apps. I inadvertently installed one of the apps on to internal memory instead of SD card, so this would have obviously had an impact. The 44mb cab was the Ferrari GT game I came across today. In any case I've now deleted everything I installed today. But I now only have just above 3mb of free internal space even tho I've soft resetted a few times as well. This is what I don't understand?

My current rom leaves 250+MB free after flash, just to give you an idea.
Internal memory is way faster than the microsd, that's why you want to install apps there unless they are huge. Anyway, since games are not usually ment to stay on the device forever, but more like until you finish them to uninstall, you could give them a go in the internal memory as well.
If you still have space taken after uninstalling, download and install totalcommander (to internal memory obviously ) and check under \Program Files\ to see if there are folders of old uninstalled programs still in memory. If there are any, delete them.
If your stock rom is a bloated one from your carrier, take into consideration the idea of flashing a clean custom rom, if you have the means to reflash the original rom back on in case you ever need warranty servicing

I'm on the stock UK o2 ROM 1.43 which is garbage. Still waiting for o2 to release an update My phone prior to this was the Samsung i900 Omnia which, once upon a time, I attempted to flash with the help and advice of some MoDaCo forum users. Basically I screwed up and had to send the phone to a Samsung Repair Centre. My point is I'm not totally clued up re: flashing/updating ROMs etc. However, I do realise at some point I'm gonna need to get my head screwed on and give it another try. If only to keep the phone up to date etc.

HD2, system disk full

Hi,
Just few days ago, I had like 20 MB of free disk space, today its <1 MB. Already deleted all the temp files, etc. using software.
Any ideas? Is it possible to sort folders by size or do some other inspection, as it does that for files only.
- Install all your apps to Storage Card?
And if you download your apps through the Marketplace, get the new version of it which gives you the option of installing apps to Storage Card.
- Move pictures, documents to Storage Card.
- Delete unecessary MMS'es
- Email. Are attachments save to phone memory or storage card.
Hi, all pics, videos, mms, emails are deleted, most of the software is installed in storage card.

Flash a "lite" ROM that doesn't install all the operator crap when you first boot.
BTW which disk space is it refering too? Storage or program memory?
Storage
180.60 total
Used 179+
Yeah, but I want to find out, who consumed all that disk space... There must be something.
Free storage: 0.00
And I did freakin nothing... Surfed system via file explorer
get Memmaid and run a Quick Clean.

This issue seems to be running through a number of threads and its not just a matter of clearing mem. I never clear anything and I don't get my storage mem filing up and I only ever install to phone.
Lets start again and take a scientific approach.
Give full details of network, ROM, installed apps etc.

Hi, using official 1.66 ROM on Tele2 network (3G), noticed this issue when I was abroad (and was not installing any softwares or games, just surfing the net via Opera Mobile 10).
Flashlight, Gyrator, clearRam (or clean ram), incall lock, net 3.5, smartlock, skype (installed before went abroad, but into 1gb card) and swype, that's pretty much it.
I have also removed many items from start menu and noticed that HTC recreates some of the shortcuts (not sure if this is related or not) with blacnk icons, such as HTC Messages.

OK. Let's run with your configuration.
Firstly do you install to mem card or phone mem?
Secondly have you done a hard reset and fresh install of settings?
I currently run CleanEX HQ 2.32 Uni WWE ROM with 2.06.50.23_3 radio.
I have 30 apps showing in the start menu of which 10 were preinstalled with the ROM.
My base mem is as follows-
RAM 576 MB
ROM 512 MB
Storage 292.91 MB
System settings shows-
Storage
Total 292.91 MB (as above)
In use 89.30 MB
Free 203.61 MB
Program (RAM)
Total 453.78 MB (of the full available 576 MB)
In use 170.39 MB
Free 283.39 MB
I don't see any reason why yours should be significantly different, however, if it is there is definately some problem with some apps hogging resources.
And it appears to be occuring on the T-mobile US versions?
Very strange!
had this problem before when using dutty's old cook rom.. never solved the problem..
but I noticed if you open Total Comander.. you can check My Document folder that soething create a file name.... (I forgot) and it's HUUGE! I deleted it.. and the problem's gone..
But then it after sometime.. it create the file again..
using dutty 1.7 HG and smaberg's latetst and doesn't have that issue anymore.. weird..

Hi, checked now, Cache folder got some big files, like 15MB total, is it safe to delete all of them?
IC_C - 7.25M
PG_IC_C - 5.66M
thumb_caches - 3.13M
Other than that, there are like few thumbnails only, ~1mb total in usage.
--------------------------------
pa49, I have installed only Opera, Swype and maybe ArkSwitch into a phone memory, everything else is in card. I haven't tried hard reset or soft reset.
I have bought my phone from clove.co.uk without a contract, I believe it's not a T-Mobile version.
Could it be because of the start menu icons deletion? I have deleted HTC People, etc from there and those icons reappeared (but without an icon), so maybe HTC generates some kind of error whenever I open start menu? Is there any error_log location in HTC?
--------------------------------
zelduy, I have tried dutty but deleted it after few mins or so, haven't found any files larger than few KBs in my docs folder.
--------------------------------
P.S. Is there any way to access phone memory via PC? As when I connect USB, can only access memory card and not phone itself.
P.P.S. Is it possible to delete default sounds, as when I right click on such files, delete option is grayed out.
P.P.P.S Is there any disk space management software on WinMo which shows what files/folders consumes the most of disk space?
Thanks for all your help, guys!

My laptop file manager shows the phone in the file tree and allows access to both storage card and internal storage. It just sees them as a drive. Even without WMDC running.
It's showing my installed app data, HTC cache as 1.75MB and 292 MB of free space.
i delete everything in the HTC ALBUM folder , its just temp files that appear to be created when using the album , any files that are needed get remade so its a quick way of saving some space
I have 2 hd2 phones, 1 has original - never flashed rom, the other I've flashed many times.
When I ran into this free space issue, I found that my phone showed only 190mb for the total size of the storage drive, the other, untouched phone showed 690mb total size.
Even after flashing many different roms, the storage drive on the rom I've been flashing was 190mb total size.
No free space of course.
So, what can resize the storage drive? any idea how this can be fixed?
What size do you see for total mb on the storage drive?
Maybe GoogleMaps Cachefile ?
You'll find it in \appdata.
Unless you install the app onto your storagecard, it'll spam your phone mainmemory...
