okay so as you know i created a few roms now based on 2.1. i know that shocked most of you because i never liked 2.1 that much to begin with, it felt slow & bulky even after flashing several roms. so i decided to make my own based on fresh 2.0d. now i will admit they are pretty fast and i enabled jit on my phone too but for the hell of it i went and restored my trusty pancake 1.5c backup as a test. the difference is like night & day. speed wise and free ram wise. now mind you i have the exact same # of apps on each rom and pretty much set up the same way minus different themes.
so my question is why does it seem 1.5 is soo much smoother & faster?
maybe it's the tweaked 1.5c kernel in the pancake rom?
and yes i know were still trying to get the bugs worked out of JIT but i did this test just for myself to see if i can improve upon my roms at all.
maybe its a placebo effect? i dont remember 1.5 being much snappier than the current 2.1. the fastest rom with no hang ups i've ever used is the now defunct 1.6 aosp =( if it wasnt for the camera i'd still be using it.

no, it's not that. everything is 10x snappier and the free ram is at least 20% higher than the fresh 2.0 based roms. it's not a big deal i guess just something i had to do but it has me thinking now.

im pretty sure camera works on 1.6 only thing that doesnt is camcorder and bluetooth i believe could be wrong though but im almost positive cam works
Eris based roms
I too am disappointed with the speed of the sprint based 2.1 roms. I do think that 1.5 is comparable. However, I get the best performance out of the Eris based 2.1 roms. I have even found fresh toast 1.1 to be choppier than DC1.0, which I use as my daily. Fresh toast does many things very fast, but it is just too choppy. DC1.0 runs her smooth. in fact, the only difference I find is neocore running at 29 with DC1.0, as opposed to 34 with fresh toast. However, that difference is not reflected in 3d games like those by polarbit, or in web browsing (which actually seems slower), or even in navigating sense, which is just choppy.
You are comparing a pre-release, admittedly buggy ROM against an established production ROM. Of course 2.1 (pre) will be slower.
I will assume the Sprint released 2.1 will have possibly the same performance as the 1.5 ROM (possibly smoother -- depending on HTC's intent in releasing the ROM).
Unfortunately, our hardware was dated from the start and is our main challenge.
Please don't take this as a flame. Just an observation/opinion.

What is special about this build?
- What is special about this build is that the entire Android O/S filesystem is stored in RAM before it is booted.
What does this mean?
- Well, RAM is faster than NAND(ROM) and SD Card which in turn will make the build superfast too! Very fast. Very very fast!

THIS Build as some who have it on their phones will testify is by far and and away the fastest build to date in Android development there is no faster build that im aware of, i can never see myself going back to "normal" Android builds again and credit must go to Darkstone this is a massive advancement in Android technology, my question is though, isn't there other chefs who can cook builds similar to this?
Merry Xmas to you all

Have you tried charging fully in WM before switching to Android. This should solve your problem.
I like Sense.. i like sense alot.. Sense means beauty and comfort for me .. I would sacrifise a bit of smoothness for a lot of Sense.. thanks..
Few days ago I copied darkstone's RAM build 1.5 to second SD card just to test it. And I was blown away with its speed. Second boot lasted about 10sec. Difference in speed in compare to any other build I tried is huge. Scrolling through the pages, opening and closing apps.....and the lockscreen is very nice
But I got huge data drops, internet in my case was working very badly. Also like Laynee1 I miss some stuff from sence.
But in any case I think that this is the way for me to go. Waiting for further releases. MDJ's gingerbread RAM looks promising. As soon as GPS is working in it I am switching.
Darkstone's build is working flawless for me so far. No data drops whatsoever. People complain Quadrant scores aren't 2000+, but thats not where the speed is at. It's basically just faster load times, and snappyness.
Also, since I hate Sense, there's no problem there
like i once said, ram builds are like sportcars, fast, no luxury, no interior, naked, raw and pure.. sense builds are the bentleys beautifull, full of gimmicks, just comfort and luxury.. besides that, the ram builds are crazy fast at navigating on the phone, but graphics are still choppy, like there are display drivers missing..
I like sense too but you when you have builds as fast aas this it doesn't matter, no data drops here either very happy with the build indeed

good description there mate
I really wish that some RAM version of CM builds could be made. They are very fast of regular SD. I can't imagine how fast it will run on RAM!
I tried Darkstones build and I really liked it, the only thing I missed from sense is the dialer.

I dunno how good a Sense RAM build would be. Sense is huge and it will kinda fill HD2`s whole RAM memory. I need to have at least 150 MB free on my device for it to run smoothly, and somehow I think Sense would take more than that. Same goes for CM builds, way too loaded. The sport-car comparison previously mentioned is a good one, it`s like trying to add extra scrap parts to a car and expecting it to behave as smoothly as it used to before adding anything.
Besides, ADW Launcher has tons of skins (at least it has some interesting ones, worth checking out) and it`s wonderfully fast and stable.
Something which is completely off-topic but still bothers me: if they managed to run Android off the RAM memory, could they perhaps do the same with WP7? I`d really rofl to see the HD2 running WP7 smoother than the Mozart...
Super Ram Contacts...
Hi guys, ive been using Darkstones Super Ram, for a full two weeks now. Awesome!!! Question, with my gmail acount, i have all my contacts in groups. Why cant i see my contancts in groups? I need to message them for meetings and all that stuff, all in one shot. But i cant see this setting in my Phone. Can anyone help??
Thanks in advance.
a Quick Question,
how to get the Sense UI get to work on this Build? i been searching for ever, Everything else seems to be working So Far,

Sense wasn't not included in the rom, it was based off of AdamG's Oxygen minimalistic rom. I don't think you would be able to put Sense over the SupperRAM.
I'm using LaunchPro Plus, and liking it, I miss the better sense widgets though...
Been using SupperRAM for only 2 days now, speed has been great.
I did notice some data drops more than usual. A reboot or toggling phone data on/off has helped this problem.
I'm extremly happy with this build have hardly experienced any data drops and it continues to whizz along at great speed, i actually don't miss sense that much to be honest, when a build is as fast as this for me personally that's the main thing, hoping to see other developers follow suit.
I tried the Super RAM build and I absolutely loved the speed. However, I would also like a Sense build with it (if possible) because then I would be able to sync my Outlook via HTC Sync. I need the sync with contacts and calendar between Outlook and HD2. While google has a program released to sync the calendar to gmail and from there to the phone, they are lacking in the contacts department...
anyone any ideas?
it's fast and has good battery life. those are the things I need the most from a build. i don't know why people torture themselves with the slowness of desire hd builds

There is actually a ram version of CM build made. "HD2ONE v3.6 [CM6.1.1 Stable]" you will need to edit the startup.txt to get your RAM ver.
Hi there,
Currently i'm using a SD-Android of MDJ.
Because of laggy animations i would like to update my current Build.
I've read through several NAND-Threads and nearly everyone says "fast fast fast".
This:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877777 NAND looks very interesting, but after looking the Youtube-Video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ab0ztDxibo ) there i'm a little bit confused... The UI looks nice, but it's lagging as hell there! - OK, it's not like "Ok, i started the app, now i can make a coffee", but the animations arent smooth... There are SD-ROMS availible which are smoother!
Is this behavior normal?
Is there any fast Android ROM, SD, NAND, RAM, etc?!
The only thing i want is a Build, which is:
- nearly stable
- fast
- small (to maximise user storage, but i dont need that much, just a few apps and Mails!)
- without "Not working in this build"-Parts
Greetz and thx for helping!
Try Darkstone's SD-RAM build, it's really fast ...
I do know 2-3 SD-Roms which are very fast, but i want to get rid of WinMo, so i need another solution
SD-Roms are still "Workarounds till NAND"
Please post in the right section.
Darkstone's build seems to be the fastest at the moment, closely followed by Markinux's builds. MDJ's gingerbread builds are getting there. I find if I set the governor to OnDemand and OC to 1300MHZ, most NAND builds become as fast, if not faster than my benchmark Desire HD.
I was skeptical about NAND at first, I thought "what's the point"
BUT, all I can now is WOW! WOW!
NAND is 4 million times faster, smoother a a lot more than SD builds

Joined in 2008, 269 posts, yet you clearly post a question in the developers section, ignoring the Android question section
BTW, it depends if you want a sense build, non-sense, gingerbread, desire, desireHD etc etc. Each has it's positives and negatives. The slowest of the lot are the DesireHD builds.
Thx for your answers!
Sry for wrong-Posting the Thread, well i'm a little bit tired
Well... I do not need Sense, and i do not need Gingerbread, all i want is a fast Android build

Your given example NAND is experiment, testing NAND, Can't compare to the rest.
So is there no NAND availible for daily use?

I think you mean, stupid fast, I was using this before I went NAND, this was definitely faster than NAND builds.
This ROM is also stable enough for everyday use. If you are using Sd though, just install-backup-change-restore, is easy with titanium backup, just try a few ROMS until you find the one you like.
But i think NAND Roms do have a better battery life, right?
I've been using my NAND build on a regular basis since it came out. Haven't been back to WinMo since NAND was first offered. For me the fastest NAND ROMs are TyTung which I would rank as best as far as speed but its completely Stock. I've also tried cmylxgo and his is pretty speedy as time goes by...I'm actually using that one right now and its been running for 4 days with no issues. Got like 60+ apps installed and using ADW Launcher with a theme and loving this build. Might go back to Gingerbread tho after another week cause I have a problem staying on one ROM too long lol...
Haven't tried MDJ ROM but Im using his kernel and no data issues and market downloads are insane...may try his GB build out...
Also heard DarkStone build is crazy fast which is a plus too...
Have been using my HD2 1024 for past 3 days and love it. ATM have miui but its okay, dont like interface much. Tho I must say, every nand rom was laggy for me for first 5 minutes for sure. Then once you set it up, fix things up, do few restarts, the phone gets super fast. Like really fast. Unless you have ****ty laggy hd rom.
atm trying darkside rom
i am using mdj revolution hd sd version for over a month now.daily usage that is.i have a great battery life and its fast.i think its one of the best sd version.like the animations, recommend it.
Just installed darkside 5 mins ago. No lag at all so far.
:O Got rating of 4000 WTF :O
Thats on darkside nand rom
Hm...It seems everyone prefers another Build (and technique)
I've tried to setup setCPU on my current build... looks smoother till now, maybe i dont need to update that fast... maybe i'll wait for "the ultimate super fast and stable NAND ROM"

Thats not darkside, it's Darkstone1337.
#2
The build is called SuperNAND.
#3
It's an amazing testiment to the advancement of NAND/RAM developments by Darkstone1337, but not stable enough (yet) for daily use.
#4
To the original poster [infernalshade], I would recomend reading some posts 1st
That's where you're going to find the most indepth information on what's working & what's not in a certain build. Before you post, search search seach & search again. Most times it just takes some quick skimming thru all the pages to get the jist of things.
#5
Try it out. Sometimes stuff just works better on different phones, call it 'The Ghost In The Machine" or whatever. Besides that, who cares what anyone says if it doesn't suit you and your end needs

Happy Flashing !

Most of the ROMs I've used are faster than SD builds. The Gingerbread ROMs are fast. The Gauner DesireHD is as fast as the SD builds of the same version of Android. But it does require getting through setup and a few reboots thereafter to smooth out to WP7 smoothness. However, every DesireHD ROM I've tried boots up super slow. That is where the SD builds excel above the ROMs.
its cm7.theres no stable build for cm7. its still laggy and buggy. cm6 will be less laggy and glitchy
I have tried pretty much every version of NAND gingerbread now and I am finding them all just a but laggy compared to Older froyo builds, anyone else find this, I thought ginger was supposed to have speed optimisations?
Just want a clean, quick Ginger, no frills or crap as I like to customise myself, I think I have tried them all but I might be missing one, anyone using a clean ginger that is nice and snappy?
NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.1 NAND [App2SD+][720p][Kernel: tytung_r2_oldcam] works well for me
found that a big laggy like the rest, note I say laggy but I am comparing it to the froyo builds, anyone else find froyo builds faster?
I can say that gingerbread is faster and smoother than froyo. Actually i use gpc_hd2_gingerbread_1.5. Every froyo was picked up with different tweaks and progs. Normally people want decide itself what needed and what is cool or fun.
I think it will be very good point for htc android development, to start make every rom plain or stock version. Then let users add itself what they want or cooker makes custom roms. Then when we have plain or stock roms we can talk about smooth or speed.
I dont fight, just my opinion.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
found that laggy myself compared to cleandroid, have you tried cleandroid, smoothest I have found yet.
Yes i have, more twice. Freezes on different places and needs time at time reboot.
Its for my father's HD2, Windows Mobile is pretty much useless nowadays, and he loves the Voice Search feature on my Evo 3D. Its going to be a NAND rom, not booting from SD, that would be too annoying for him to use.
Thing is, there are only about 1000 roms for this thing....... even dozens of versions of Cyanogen.
And on top of that, I don't know how well some of the custom roms with Sense 2.0 or 3.0 would work, or if any are missing hardware support.
I understand you lose performance if you add-on alternate UIs like sense, but how big is the performance hit? Hes not going to be playing high-end 3D games or performing protein folding or anything on the thing, so as long as the performance loss doesn't hit the "Phone becomes laggy, input lags, and it takes forever to load anything" range, I would actually prefer a sense based rom than one without.
Again, I am doing this for someone that isn't TOO technical, though no stranger to computers either, so I don't need a rom packed full of overclocking and root tweaking options (though a rooted rom would still be preferred).
So then, are there any good Sense 3.0 roms for the HD2 available? Got any you recommend? Do they still support all of the phone's hardware?
If not, what would be your next choice? Is there much point in using Sense 2.0 over vanilla android other than the extra sense widgets which he would probably not care about? Sense 3.0 does have the looping home screens and the very functional lock screen that I know he would find useful.
Thanks, I know a lot of people ask for recommendations, but after searching for roms for days and basically flying blind in the "maybe this one will be good, its got a lot of people installing it" category I could really use some advice, especially for a Sense 3.0 rom... if they exist.

If you really want sense, go for a dhd sense 3 rom (Runnymede Sense 3.5 works well on mine), and if you really want looping homescreens, install launcherpro on any rom of your choice.
BUT I'd recommend a cm7/miui rom because in the end, it's still slow.

Not a fan of Sense 3.5 over 3.0 personally.
And just how slow is it compared to CM7? I mean, I understand CM7 will be faster than a sense rom, even CM7 with sense hacked in, but as long as its not laggy or sluggish thats fine, I don't need it to break benchmark records and run the latest 3d software.
I really like the sense 3.X roms... and i don't find them THAT slow (i have a DHD).
But that god damn graphic glitch is anoying, and i'm not going to disable GPU rendering of sense to get it working without glitches... must wait

Im new to NAND HD2, but not new to the HD2 ( sold my 1st one, just got another the other day ) but I just flashed my first Android NAND ROM and I noticed all thse graphic glitches, i thought it was something else. But apparently its a common problem for everyone? No fix Im assuming.
Anyways im curious what you mean by DHD?
GHetting to performance, HD2 isnt bad at all! Im old time Android owner going back to the G1 and myTouch 3G.If you wanna see degraded performance try flashing a Sense rom on a G1 or 32B device. OWwwo
Well I can recommend Rafdroid rom. Its Sense2 stock froyo. Works mostly well.
So, did they ever fix those graphic glitches people keep complaning about?
MIUI builds are very slick, very impressive on the HD2, can't imagine it being any slicker or faster as there seems to be zero lag whatsoever.

I have the same question (which ROM to use?) but this post still doesnt not give me a clear answer. I have been using Mikhei777 sense 3.0 version (original) but it has lots of lag and is fairly sluggish. He has upgraded it a few times but now seems to be spending more time on the sense 3.5 version. Its my wifes phone so do not want to keep trying new versions. Just want someone to recommend a known good stable version...
Thanks

Strange, I can't find that one here:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
I've been using Mikhei777's Android 2.2.1 Sense 2.0 rom for quite some time. It works great and haven't had any problems at all with it. The wifi hotspot works also. Not sure about bluetooth and USB tethering stuff. Don't use them. He deleted a lot of the useless system apps but there is a rar file you can download from the first post that has all of the deleted stuff in case there is something you want to put back in it. I've only put on Facebook and the text to speech stuff. I'm not using an ext on my phone since I have a TMOUS HD2 so, I don't have memory issues. Give it a try. If you don't like it you can always flash something else.

exactly, wise words...
if you want a good rom with everything working, miui is the way to go. If your friend is not a hardcore techie, he better stays away from those Sense roms. try it for yourself and compare.. but seriously feature wise Sense is so outdated compared to miui (except the htc widgets maybe).

The worst about MIUI, it's that laggish launcher/desktop.
I don't know why... it fells "low frame rate".

That's why I use PAT's MIUI Rom with Sense launcher. It combines the best of the 2 world's. Very fast, customizable and everything is working like in other MIUI rom's and a very good, customizable launcher with the most important sense widget's.
No graphic glitches, not a disabled GPU acceleration and camcorder with full resolution and without lags. And the newest Android 2.3.7 version.
Use this rom since some month's, will never go back to the slow sense rom's. Only the dialer facebook integration of the sense dialer isn't there, but I don't have facebook and Co. But there is already an alternative dialer on the market, probably he can also display the actual feelings (posted in facebook) of the incoming caller and such nonsense.

"Only the dialer facebook integration of the sense dialer isn't there, but I don't have facebook and Co."?
When i get a call from a Facebook contact i can actually see its profile pic from facebook. On contact details i also see his status or last comment or whatever its called clicking on it, opens the facebook app and goes to this comment. is that what you meant?
If you are looking for a good ROM, Team Blue Droid have produced an excellent sense 3.5 Rom which looks the business and works far better than many others I have flashed recently on mh EU HD2. I am not that technically minded regarding SD card partition types, but I run mine via SD card after flasing a 1024 partition using CMR and the accompanying DAF.exe.

Yes!
There are missing also the hardware switching widgets (WLAN, Mobile Network...) but all is in the top status bar. You have only the contacts and the calendar widget, but it's enough for me.

But no hardware acceleration or with graphical glitches, only the new sense kernels should solve this problem. I don't know if there already stable.
How many free ram do you have after start with this rom?
