I tried to locate the manufacture date on my phone, but found some strange info..
The shipping date on the box is 7/9/10
The date on the battery is 7/1/10
but the label under the battery is 10.10 ...
so is my phone manufactured on october 2010 and possibly a refurb?
Hmmm.. all of mine are Aug 10 ..battery, ship date, label under battery.
assuming the 10.10 is in large text, check the number above it. On the back of my phone it says 10.10 in large text, but above it in small text is says 10.07
oh.. you are right.
the sticker says STA 10.10 but the smaller print above says 10.08 ... but my sticker is more like a cheapy paper one with big prints instead of other's plastic one, so is mine a refurb?
Mines say 11.1. That means 2011 January right?

Mine says 11.01 and I got it January 2011. The little numbers say 10.08 for me too though. I don't know if it is refurbished or not. It works though, so I'm okay with it.
I just got T-mobile to replace my 7/2010 Vibrant because of the usual GPS problems.
The one that came back has a sticker under the battery that looks like this:
BAR CODE
IMEI: xxxxxxx
FCC ID xxxxx
10.08 BAR CODE
T959 BAR CODE
Made in Korea
CEO168
STA 11.05
The CEO and 11.05 are in a larger font than anything else.
Does this mean its a phone manufactured in August 2010 and refurbed in May 2010 (possibly by inspector CEO168). It seems to have a similar GPS problem to the one it replaced.

I just got a replacement G2 from UPS this morning. Hopefully to address my random reboot issue and random signal flakiness. Really I just wanted to see if the new unit had a different part number (as in newer hardware revision). I hadn't seen any posts with part numbers listed from their phones. The part number is located under the battery, btw.
The old phone (recieved Sept 29th - pre order):
P/N: 99HLW021-00 XE
S/N: HT09NR21XXXX
The new phone (got it this morning Oct 28th):
P/N: 99HLW021-01 A
S/N: HT0A4R21XXXX
Maybe that last "01" is a revision number?? It looks to me the replacement I recieved is BRAND NEW, not a refurb. At least it appears that way. I think it would be pretty hard to reinstall those plastic pieces between the screen and keyboard, on the keyboard itself, and on the screen that come when it ships new. Of course they stripped it of the battery and back cover.
My old hinge was very tight, and this was also appears to be tight. Although it may have a little less wobble to it. I need to reload all my stuff and give it a test run.
I'll report back on any differences I note.
I see you're in the same area as me, I was wondering what kind of speeds have you gotten around both St.Pete and Tampa. I can't seem to get anything better than 4 mbps at most for download.

I'm getting around 3-4Mbps d/l most of the time. I've seen as high as 9Mbps near my job, though. Icot area off of Ulmerton.
Make sure you check your part number when you get a chance and vote in the poll at the top. I'm curious about this part number revision thing.
99HLW021-00 from pre-order. Thinking about getting it switched out if there is a new revision out. My hinge is very loose but no reboot issues.

I haven't even powered up my new one yet. I just put on my screen protector and I'm letting it dry thoroughly before powering it back up. I'll probably wait to mess with it tonight when I'm at work.
I actually have 2 -00's so if anyone wants to change the poll? My wife's was received 2 days ago brand new in box from Asurion. Both have tight and identical hinges and no issues. Mine is 2 weeks old.
just received my replacement order yesterday from preorder and they both have P/N: 99HLW021-00 XE.
but this hinge seems to be tighter than the first one. but i am sure it will get loose over time. It seems i get worst signal than the first one. still no 3G in my house with G2. I get it all day with my Blackberry 9700...*sigh may have to sell the G2 and get the new 9780
Anyone getting the replacements getting a brand new in box phone? Cause I am going to demand that I think when I call about my phone...

I got mine from the T-mobile store yesterday. I am taking it back today. Floppy hinge, won't even connect to edge where I used to get 3G with my G1. I really like the phone but until a radio update and new hinge I will go back to my G1. Or wait till next week and try the my touch.
i picked mine up a week ago in fort lauderdale, part# 99hlw021-00 xf
I also received a replacement today with P/N: 99HLW021-01 A. It was a brand new phone. Maybe it is a new batch because I ordered a replacement last thursday and it took a week to get here, normally it only takes 2 days. I am located in NYC. I noticed that the new phone has a different color in the back. My original has like a brownish color and the new one is grey. Also the Hinge feels sturdier when is closed and when is open as well. I will take a picture of the both phones so you guys can see what i am talking about the colors
Here's my experience with Samsung repair center.
I called Samsung April 21 cuz my Nexus S's rear speaker went out.
They said they were going to email me a UPS shipping label. Waited all day nothing.
Called back April 22 and told them I received nothing. She tried sending it 3 times to me while I was on the phone with her to my Gmail account. 10 minutes later, they all showed up (the 3 she sent me, not the first one on April 21).
Like HTC, they only require you to send in the phone bare. No battery, no battery cover. Just the phone naked. I left my screen protector on it.
Packed it up, dropped it off at the local UPS Store the same day (April 22 a Friday). It was shipped via UPS Ground. I'm in Southern California, the Samsung Repair Center is in Plano, Texas. They received it April 27 (Wednesday). An email was automatically sent to me saying they received it, and a URL to the Samsung website where I can check the status of my repair. It has information such as Expected Repair Date, Ship Date, Message From Samsung, etc...
Checking the website everyday, and on Friday April 29, it showed "Completion Date" as that day. I wait till Sunday for tracking number of shipment back to me, but nothing, so I called them and the person said/guessed that because the phone was finished on a Friday, that it was just sitting there because the repair center is closed Sat & Sun and to expect it to ship Monday.
Come Monday, still nothing. Not til Wednesday May 4th did it ship. Then it finally arrived today Monday May 9..... at 8pm (Gawd I hate UPS).
The Nexus S came back in a normal brown carboard box. Inside was a padded UPS envelope. Opened that and it was a black Samsung Galaxy S box. (LOL) and finally inside that in shrinkwrap was my Nexus S.
I put my battery and SIM back on and put the battery cover on..... it didn't fit right.
I look on the bottom (near USB port) where it wouldn't snap in and saw that the front lip/edge was popping out where the USB is at that seem. I squeezed it really hard and it snapped in and was able to put the battery cover on. Now when I squeeze the plastic lip under the Menu soft key, I hear it squeak, and only that area.
Regarding the website tracking info, the only thing that was filled out was ticket number, status, service request date, shipping carrier, completed date, and both tracking numbers. Everything else was blank.
Samsung was pretty quick (3 days) to fix it, but damn UPS Ground is soooo slow. Would have been great if Samsung offered a Advanced Repair Exchange like HTC does. 22 days without the Nexus S... had to use a MyTouch 3G as backup! ugh. Also would have liked a better QA on the repair, the bottom of phone not all the way closed correctly ugh.
I think you need to correct your dates there - not sure how you could have sent it in April 22nd and got it back April 9th.

Also more like 18 days, including shipping. Plus I am sure if you pay extra for it, they will do expedited shipping.
That kind of scares me, I just sent mine in for repair. Did you encounter any inflicted scratches or worn screws after your repair? You should tell them about the battery cover issue. UPS is balls when it comes to shipping across states.

Also when I didn't receive a shipping label and when I called the next day for the lady to give me another one and it didn't work, I asked if I could just send it to them myself, and she said yes.
So you can ship it yourself however fast you want, but the free return shipping will be UPS Ground by them.

Is there a label that shows customs opened up the box? If is very likely. Was the Priority Pak from FedEx cut at all?
Also, did you order an SD card? That was not included...
It doesn't come with an external sd card. Just 16GB internal memory.

My Note from Expansys didn't come with a MicroSD card either, but since none was listed I wasn't surprised!
Since Handtec, like Expansys, are shipping the Euro version, did they pack a UK adaptor/mains charger in the box? If so, that'll be why the security seal was broken.
Expansys shipped me an UK HTC charger, but didn't put it in the box with the Note.
Regards,
Dave

It sounds funny but yeah, customs all over the world have this right to open your package to look for any "illegal items".
I received mine from Handtec. The box was sealed, two seals nad both was in-tacked. No memory card but i believe it wasn't supposed to come with one anyways. Handtec will have my business again. Plus the shipping is so fast, coming from overseas.

Customs is the reason some people are receiving them opened and the experience will be entirely different depending on what country the Galaxy Note is being delivered to. In other words someone ordering from the UK who receives one sealed from Handtec doesn't mean your going to when it comes through US customs.
When I spoke to Handtec before I got it from somewhere else, they said they have two sorts on offer, one that comes factory unlocked and one that's a bit cheaper that they get unlocked and may havethe original carriers branding, and those ones are a bit cheaper because of those reasons.

same here i ordered from handtec and in Newark, NJ Customs hold it b/c handtec didn't describe what was in package so one day customs held it there then i called fedex gave them all the info then they released it. as i open the fedex packaging i noticed the GNOTE's seal was broken but everything was in the box. Well i have problem with the screen of Gnote so i am gonna have to call Handtec and return it to them.
I ordered from Handtec, the slightly more expensive factory unlocked one, and my phone was still sealed with the plastic phone coverings undisturbed. This is despite customs holding my package due to insufficient description. I will note the "factory seal" sticker is only on one side of the box, and the paper label on the other side is barely covering the gap between top and bottom, and easy to peal up. I did this and opened my box, tilting from that end, so if I wanted to, I could seal it all up again and have it appear factory sealed. I'd never do that and lie about it, though.

Hello All,
Apologies in advance for a necessarily long story but I think it has implications for unsuspecting customers. Hope people start checking goods very carefully!!
I bought a new 64GB TPT with Keyboard Folio from a reputed online seller in UK on 19 January, paid full price and for next day delivery.
Parcel arrived promptly the next day in a big black plastic bag with carton inside. So I signed for it and opened the big plastic bag. Inside I found a large Thinkpad Carton which was a bit banged up and there was some rattling inside. I was now worried but having signed for it, I opened the outer carton and found a smaller Thinkpad Tablet box inside it, which looked undamaged.
However, on closer inspection, it was clear that this was NOT a sealed box, that someone had opened it and re-taped with narrower tape. I was getting quite worried now that I had been sent a customer return rather than Brand New.
Anyway, I open the smaller Thinkpad box, find the tablet inside but guess what, the red security seal was broken. I didn't even need to open the seal, it was poorly stuck back. I take the tablet out and see smudges and dust on the screen and scratches on the back!!
I decided enough is enough and phoned the dealer who promptly sent me an email requesting a photograph. I sent that after several attempts and they acknowledged receipt and that they had requested replacement from supplier.
I took further steps to make sure that I don't get lumbered with a used item. I checked the serial number on the despatch note and the boxes and compared it to the serial number on the tablet inside the flap cover of the SD/SIM slot. They were the same. I cleaned the screen, there were no scratches.
I thought to have a look at the tablet working anyway while waiting for exchange. It powered on and went into the home screen straight away, further confirmation that whoever had handled it before hadn't bothered to factory reset. The battery showed 3/4 charge so I went to "Settings" to have a look.
Much to my surprise, the internal storage showed up around 28GB (I had purchased the 64GB tablet) which I couldn't understand. Then the tablet shut down and stayed dead (SOD) despite every effort to put life into it. I emailed the seller anyway but they are closed on the weekend. I knew by now that not only had I been sent a USED and scratched customer return but also a defective and lower spec tablet. Weird enough but it gets worse.
I left it on charge for >24 hours and tried again today. Thankfully the tablet started without a hiccup, went into the home screen and I went straight to "Settings" and "About Tablet" to confirm internal storage. It still showed about 27.4GB plus 540MB used space. No question that they sent me 32GB tablet.
I then discovered the worst thing I could expect. I went into status and checked the Serial Number of the System Unit as recorded IN the tablet firmware itself. Guess what, the serial number embedded in the tablet is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from that in the pull down flap cover of SD slot and that on the cartons!
Until this point, I had assumed that some sleeper in the warehouse had mistakenly sent me a customer return. Now I question that assumption.
The shocking thing in this whole scenario is that the Outer carton, Inner carton and Despatch note all state the same serial number and this matches with the small print label inside the pull down flap SD slot cover. But the embedded System Unit Serial Number is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
I would not have known at all if I hadn't become suspicious from the outset. Even then it was the internal storage size that caught my attention and induced me to check system unit serial.
There is no doubt whatsoever that a replacement cannot be refused by the dealer, I phoned them and emailed photos on the day of receipt. Why should the embedded system unit serial be different from that on the SD flap cover which is after all, part of the tablet itself?
However, I would ask other forum members if I am mistaken in thinking that system serial number as seen in Settings>About tablet>Status should be the same as on the SD flap label and the boxes. If they are different as I have now found out, what is the implication?
If I am correct in thinking that the serial numbers everywhere should be the same, how come the sticky label on the SD flap cover is same as on the cartons. Indeed, according to despatch note and boxes, the serial number on them should be the 64GB machine. Not mine though!
I would appreciate comments and advice. Once again, sincere apologies for the long post and a couple of repetitions (long winded as usual!).
Kind regards
Sounds like a pretty terrible thing to have to deal with, hope you eventually get what you paid to receive.
The S/N on the flap matches the System-unit serial number under About Tablet on my tablet
Thanks for confirming that, mine is different

My serial number in Settings>About tablet>Status = MP06xxP
On the label inside the SD flap cover on tablet, despatch note, both outer and inner cartons, the serial number reads = MP04xxX
So does this mean that whoever despatched it did a dodgy swap of the SD cover flap on my unit to show a different serial number "to match the purchased unit"?
If so, is this a fraudulent alteration of serial numbers to deceive the customer?
I take a dim view of it if this is what has happened and wonder if I should bring it to Trading Standards Office's attention.
I still can't believe someone would go so far as to alter serial numbers but surely he would know that the correct serial number would be embedded in the About Tablet!!
I certainly will compare serial numbers on all electronic items in their displays whenever possible as it looks like someone has been dodgy in this case!
I just didn't expect it from a very well known dealer although they said on the phone that it was despatched direct from their supplier, who now has several questions to answer. It is illegal to alter serials just as it is to alter car plates.
Thanks for your confirmation.
Kind regards
Update
Hello All,
I phoned the dealer this morning and he said they have forwarded my emails to the supplier and it will take 5 days for them to respond.
I decided this was total dung and phoned HM Govt Trading Standards Office and they said that as the contract is between dealer and me, supplier is irrelevant and that I am entitled to refund forthwith from the dealer as they did not supply the goods that I ordered.
There may be an issue of misconduct as well somewhere in the chain as I cannot imagine the Settings>About tablet>Serial number being different from box, invoice and sticky label on SD flap unless someone actually changed the sticky label or even the SD flap!
Amazing. I am waiting to hear from the dealer and taken plenty of photos to show mismatch, scratches etc. I have asked for a refund as there is no way I will trust this dealer again even if the fault is the supplier's. The dealer should deal with the supplier rather than asking me to wait 5 days for them to pontificate.
Thanks for your patience. I strongly recommend that people check the product serial number in its OS or display before accepting it as genuine. You never know these days, despite this dealer having a good reputation this happened.
Best wishes!
I guess I'm "lucky" that I ordered mine straight from Lenovo Direct and waited 2 months for them to deliver (3 months - Keyboard Folio).
I wish you the best, I would have blown my top if I got scammed like that.
All I can say is wow. Hopefully you will get what you purchased or a full refund.

The dealer has not yet responded to my request for refund. I decided I didn't want a replacement from his dodgy supplier and I have advised my credit card company of the issues.
Out of interest, I searched the internet for serial number fiddling and it turns out that this is very common with Sony PS3. Apparently, scammers repackage cleaned and used PS3's AND alter their serial numbers to resell at new price!
All I can say is that this is the first time I have come across years of online purchases in the UK and it is probably a new innovation that only scam artists can think of.
Check serial number is my new motto!
Kind regards
KF

I dont have one yet but I did examine the box at the store and it shows no build dates (or I didnt look hard enough), for the other samsung devices its either on the box with the IMEI stickers or at the battery compartment.
The only method that I've been using is typing in the S/N here:

But I dont know how accurate it is.
BUMP, incase anyone knows.
