aliasxerog might get into the bootloader soon - Droid X General

Check out the definition of kexec at wikipedia to find out how aliasxerog is attempting to crack the Droid X bootloader! I hope he does it! It would a long time coming if he does it!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I don't know if he will be getting into the bootloader, just kind of around it. He might be getting it soon, but the drivers and such will need to be worked backwards and then put into the new kernel.
Anyway, props to him. He's a beast.

Just read this...

Maybe he won't have to use kxec after all?

Bootloader And Android 2.4

Hello,
I am planing on the Atrix for august when I will be in the US,
And I wonder- do you think the Bootloader will be cracked untill then?
Or Motorola Unlock it/ update to- 2.4?
Thank You,
Daniel
No way to be certain for either of those questions. Check back in August.

I wanted to know as well...
Sigh, August is way to long...
wow it sound really pessimistic.
I am following the DEVS thread and it looks like they found something and soon the will find a way to hack this...
they havent posted in the bootloader thread in a couple of days, so i dont know whats going on. its killing me too.
i cant make heads or tales of what they have done as of yet, but i can say that it looks better for us now that they have a way to recover (the sbf) if they mess something up. a lot of things things they can try now that they may not have wanted to before, for fear of brick
Not really pessimistic, just neutral. We can make guesses but there is no way to be certain the loader will be broken or whether motorola will give up and unsign it. They have stated we will get 2.3 for sure, but 2.4 is a toss up still.

Well thats sucks.
2.3 doesn't bring any important changes, and it does take time to make the update.
waste of time..
well it just means that if the devs here won't get to bootloader hacked the milestone story will be back.

Who cares about 2.3? 2.4 is what everyone's after...
GPU-accelerated UI and Browser
Built-in Gtalk video chat support
Multi-language browser support
And as Matias Duarte implied, all the Honeycomb design changes will be in 2.4
So who cares about 2.3? Not me. If the Atrix isn't released unsigned in Canada, and unless the XDA hacks it, I will be going for the Nexus S, and sticking with the Nexus line for the next few years...
Hard to speak about 2.4, as we don't have much of a clue about it. But loading custom kernels and the like is really making me re-think the decision about buying the Atrix...
Not to be a downer in this thread, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the unlocked bootloader, but it is nice that some fresh minds are going at it.
With that said, the devs for the D2 and DX have been able to set the users up with a good amount of customization.

well I guess I'll just have to check it later...

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!
HE GOT A WAY TO PASS THE BOOTLOADER!!!!
HOPE HE WILL PUBLISH A WAY TO PASS IT SOON!!!
Its still being tested but DA G has had some success. No one else has posted anything else. I think the reason the bootloader thread has been quiet is because there in an irc were they can talk easier. We prob wont hear anythkng new until they have made some progress. I'm just glad we have the sbf file. That's a big step. Ill be happy if we can get motoblur removed.

Bootloaders About to be Unlocked - CM7 Questions

You can find the information here:

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/2...t-to-be-unlocked-keys-for-sbf-files-released/
I hear all the talk about unlocked bootloaders which would allow us to install CM7 on our DX's. What exactly makes CM7 the clear and cut best ROM out for unlocked phones? Features? Speed? Battery Life?
I'm just curious, and I'm extremely excited.
VICTORY IS OURS!! haha im excited too

Wow, that is awesome. I don't even really know what to expect out of this, but a DX with a unlocked bootloader has to be one of the best phones on the market right now, correct?
TBolt isn't worth upgrading to IMO. I'm waiting until August-December, and a unlocked DX makes the wait that much easier.

Yeah it will be a beast. I am already getting Quadrant scores ~2200 on a regular basis with Liberty 1.5/Stagefright, and I am willing to bet that, with custom kernels in the game now, we can get over 3000, as everything can be streamlined

That attitude leads me to believe he just wanted to get something started. Guess nobody will know for sure until thoroughly tested, but my hopes aren't too high. People claim that Moto sending a C&D order proves, to an extent, the legitimacy of this key... however, like with the key, all we have is his word. Where's the Moto letter? It's all based purely on the assumption that he's not a total jackass. I do hope it's real, though.. will refrain from holding my breath for now.

Thanks for the insight. I will try not to.. i really hope he doesn't. I can only hope for the best right now.
Great news! I can't wait to see this beast that is the DX unlocked.
I really hope developers take their time and release a solid ROM instead of rushing to it just for the sake of releasing the " first " unlocked ROM for bragging rights.
I hope there is nothing sacrificed as well. My biggest gripe is that of missing features for speed. I am willing to wait it out
My only question (and don't get me wrong, I'm excited our phones will be getting unlocked) is about re-locking our phones. If we have to return them for any kind of repair/replacement issue, and VZ sees the bootloader was unlocked, I have a feeling they would say we voided our warranties. Right now with the locked bootloader all we have to worry about is sbf'ing/madderstcok'ing our phones back to stock. Does anyone know if the unlocking process is going to have a re-locking process?

This process won't involve unlocking the bootloader, it'll consist of flashing an .sbf file using the current security keys which replaces stock recovery with clockworkmod and replaces the stock keys with our own keys. Then, we can create new kernels and roms that use our own keys. Thus, the security stays intact and we can still do whatever we want. Flashing back to stock will simply require flashing one of the leaked .sbf files (.340 for instance) that has been altered to include the new keys.
In short, we don't break down the door, we just change the lock so we can have access whenever we want.

You can't just run their script and make it work that way, their exploit would have to be ported to the Atrix.
Hope this works, may I remind any dev that the is a huge bounty for this.

theres no such thing as atrix haters , theres moto haters , I been a moto fan since the startac , truth is motorola has spit in our face since the days of EZX phone where they would always find a way to circumvent gpl , I wish I could have an atrix , but as long as its locked , not gnna happen , fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me , I am very tempted but I wont jump in just yet , I heard Tegra is much less secure then omap so theres your chance but it be a good month or 3 or 4 before anything happens to that bootloader , thinking otherwise woudl be greatly under estimating Motorola ...

there are Atrix haters as well as moto haters, i've debated and well as read comments from quite a few of them, but people that have the wrong attitude and give up so easily on the phone ain't helping at all(or people that never had the phone to begin with), but i understand some people have their needs or wants in a phone and the atrix may not be it for them, but don't bash it just because you may not like it, never even owned it but have negative comments about it, have a defective device or whatever, and no i'm not saying that YOU have done any of this, but i'm tired of seeing it.....
but back to what this topic is actually about, hopefully this topic catches the devs attention
sooo.. ignoring the differences in architecture between omap and tegra, were the two bootloaders secured in the same fashion?> signed? signed and locked? locked?

Even it takes 3 or 4 months it still gives us hope. I thought this whole signed bootloader mess was gonna be completely impossible! So I'm thrilled to hear this!
Nothing is impossible
Doesn't look like this is catching the eye of many people though, most likely from the 4/4 date.

Defy got CM7 Port

If the Defy can do it, why can't we? It has a locked bootloader too. I bet I sound pretty stupid because there is something I'm missing, but oh well...

A quick glance says that they're using update.zip files to clobber /system, so they're not touching the bootloader. So this should be doable, although I believe that our CWM could use some more work.

I wonder if he'd be willing to give some devs pointers. Or even attempt this himself
It all starts here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026853
We'd have to port that before anything else...
He says something about Korean developers... Ah ha! That's what has been missing from this equation all along!
Yeh, you are probably right. And as next step would be understanding the current cm7 defy port and maybe try do to the same thing using cm7 harmony as a base.
I could try doing it, I'm a quite experienced java developer (6+ years) and wouldn't have problems learning it BUT, as I already sold my old Nexus One, Atrix is my current phone and I don't wanna risk it... =/

[LOOK] Method of unlock w/o unlock code working for defy

I found a post on the Defy section here and I'm really wondering if we could use this method (tweaked, obviously as there is a directory like "bootmenu" that we don't have because we don't have the same 2nd init boot menu junk they have developed for the Defy) on our Atrix. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen a Motorola Android phone getting unlocked through this type of method, the only other way was to buy an unlock code.
Anyways, If anyone could look into this and see what they think about making this work on the Atrix or all Motorola phones for that matter, it'd be great! I sure hope we can make something out of this!
+1, cheers for digging this up, its definitely worth a look by dev's.

Yes, the devs need to look at it. It seems nobodys paying any attention to this though which wont help it getting viewed by devs.
I think some of the defy forums already debunked this, but they could be wrong.
