It seems like a more appropriately sized Evo 4G
It's an Evo clone, but with some slide hinge thingy? What's the point of that, other than a physical keyboard?
only info:
3.7 in screen
and a slide out.. something.. most likely a keyboard.
I am guessing it is the G2/ Desire Z remake for Sprint.
Cant wait for more real details!
My Sprint contact says it is a keyboard.
It looks like it might not be a bad phone, idk i would have to see more specs. Its still to new to know much about it. But wont be do for upgrade for another year so :/

Dude, I really hope so. The only thing holding me back from the Evo is the lack of a physical keyboard. Hopefully it gets released soon. Otherwise, I'll be getting the Epic.

HTC Source says early January. I think if something was coming out next month, we would have known about it already. Phones don't stay under wraps for long.
read an article today.. Sprint will announcement will be early Jan...
not sure when it will be released.
I would love an HTC G2 on Sprint with Sense... I don't like the big screen on the Evo and I don't like Samsung. A 1ghz+ processor would be great too.

The Transform stayed under the radar until just a few days before release.
Hopefully it'll come out before Jan. but doesn't look good with the accessory release of Jan. 6.

This is *exactly* what I was waiting for from Sprint. Something with a better processor, but not OMGWTFHUGE like the Evo or Epic (not even considering the Epic, lol). The slide-out keyboard is just an added bonus.
as long as that is a slide out keyboard and not a slide out speaker i may look into it.

I got my wife the Epic about a month ago and it is a kick ass phone. Screen is obviously a little smaller than the EVO, but it is a quality device.

Yeah, I'm not one for having a huge screen. I like something that can fit into my pocket easily. The Epic does seem awesome. I'm more of an HTC fan though, their phones are just so damn nice!
I am planning to get this for my wife. She thinks my Evo is too large and she likes a physical keyboard.

If that's what you want, you ought to check out the Samsung Intercept. (yeah, yeah, most of us agree that Samsungs aren't as nice as HTCs). It's somewhat similar to the older Samsung Moment but kinda a step above it. My girlfriend just got the Intercept and really loves it. Very inexpensive too cuz it's not totally top-of-the-line. Released back in July.

This has been a great experience for me and my HEROC. Thanks to all the DEVS that supported this phone to the end.
I have recently upgraded my HEROC to a EVO SHIFT. Hopefully, I will see some of you over the Evo Shift Forums and we could all start over.
Looking forward to rooting, roming, and to the development of this new phone. I'll check back once in a while to see what kind of progreess the Heroc is getting.
Take care y'all...
I also came from a hero. This phone, imho, was a great upgrade. The physical keyboard is a super bonus to what the phone can do. It is way faster than the hero and can perform just as well as the Evo. Of course that is debatable. For me, I do like the smaller screen compare to the evo/epic. The camera is decent for a 5mp with flash. Being a second gen snapdragon, can't wait for the new development to start.
Fyi this is not a development topic

Does the Optimus S even have its own forum on here yet? If so I can't seem to find it. I know there's a couple for it located on Android Central and Android Forums. Here on xda, I do see a little bit of Optimus S stuff in the 'Optimus One P500' forum -- is that it for now? Thanks, Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. Also sorry for the thread hijack, I won't mention this again here on the Evo Shift forum.
Well, this Heroc to Evo Shift move may not be a done deal for me now that Sprint's got something planned for the 7th of Feb. What about you guys...?

No doubt there, Sense seems fine on this phone compared to my Hero. I came from the Hero, and upgraded my wife's Moment to the Shift also. My wife said something funny about that last night, "They called it the Moment because it only works for a moment." EPIC!! lol
I'm enjoying it, came from a Heroc. Sense is really ruining the experience for me though, even with ADW it just isn't as good as stock or CM6/7. I'm,hoping it gets root soon or its back to the hero.

Nobody take me wrong but at times I kinda regret not going with the evo just because its forums are fast moving and really active. like I said none take me wrong because I love my shift its so smooth. I thought all android was like this but I'm proud to say my phone runs android smooth. I thought this phone was going to be a hit like the evo. I'm hoping in general things take off. Anyone having the same feelings about the evo shift?
Sent from my HTC speedy using Xda Premium
Development is going fine, most of the development goes on behind the scenes and there are a lot of non-public builds out there.
Most of the action is in the IRC right now. I'd say about 1/2 of the builds are on the irc only. Some of the best builds are on the irc, or released early with bug fixes in irc. Things have taken off, but it's mostly behind the scenes.
I don't regret getting a shift at all =P
In no way do i regret getting a shift
No regrets here! My girlfriend has the evo so I've played with it since it came out and this was my upgrade from the hero. I love this phone! Lol
Sent from my PG06100
I'm rooted but still running the stock rom. The phone runs smoother than the Evo (especially when running live wall papers) and battery life is much better when the phone is in use. I'm not blown away by the phone like when I first purchased the Evo, but I still think the Shift is a better phone. I thought I would miss the bigger screen of the Evo, but the sharpness of the Shift's screen almost makes up for it.
All I'm waiting for in a custom rom is one that has toggle switches in the pull down notification bar.
My perception of the Shift is that development does move slower than I had hoped/expected. That's just my perception coming from the Hero. (Not slighting those doing the good work.) However, my "regret" comes from personal tastes.
- I don't need a physical keyboard and the added bulk has started to bug me
- The keyboard slider isn't as tight as I feel it should be, and makes the phone feel a little more cheap that I'd prefer.
- Small design elements bother me (Chrome trim and circles, blue...)
The main "regret" feeling now comes from the Nexus S 4G that's rumored to be announced at CTIA. Likely selling the Shift to pick that up if it's released relatively soon.

Did you remove the plastic from the back? If you did, that's probably why. I left it on and it's pretty tight.
Ahh me too!i wish i would have waited for the nexus from sprint but my heros charger port failed so i had to get something fast.=/ im have faith for the shift development.the hero rom development was amazing!!it made me love the phone.Im just looking forward to what everyone can do with the shift also im hoping in a camcorder mod or something like the nexus one did =] im sure it is possible.im starting to get into cooking some roms and everything but i just havent gotten it all down yet.my shift makes me wanna learn though!alot more than my hero!and the keyboard does feel a bit loose after a while but ive always had that problem with phones with slide out keyboards.i just hope it doesnt mess up like one of my old phone that caused the screen not to be touch able anymore.Dont Regret!give it time!

I'm very happy with my phone. It's as if HTC remade my Moment awesome.
^ Shift Faced
The Shift is still a young platform, give it time. The EVO has had almost a year head start on the Shift as far as development goes, so it's no surprise that the community would be booming over there.
I too had this same question when it came time to upgrade. As a Hero CDMA user, I enjoyed a fantastic, active community, even for a phone that was based on ARMv6. If a phone of that caliber STILL has a community as vibrant as it is, the Shift is SURE to foster a wonderful kitchen of ROM creation and hacking. We've already got some excellent folks on board (I'm looking @ you NFX!) and more will come as people upgrade their phones.
I much prefer HTC builds to the likes of Samsung. The slide on my Shift is taught and feels solid - I too left the plastic on the back / edges. When the time came to select a phone, I tried everything at T-Mobile and Sprint and the only phone that would have enticed me away from the Shift would have been the G2. That second gen Snapdragon / Adreno 205 rocks my socks. So fast, so smooth.
I love this phone.
(ps. I also did not want a physical keyboard, but I'm falling in love with it, ESPECIALLY when ssh'ing into a box or using the terminal emulator)

Attached below is the internal Sprint document of the recent improvements of the PRL.
Mainly for everyone who doesn't want to read and see the new coverage it turns on 3G Roaming in the following states:
- FL
- MI
- OH
- WV
- WI
- NC
"- PRLs expand 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming coverage in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
- PRLs also add Strategic Alliance Roaming (SRA) to portions of North Carolina. Customers will have a Sprint like experience for voice and 3G services, meaning the roaming light will be off and billed as on-network."
I'll also be writing an article describing in details exactly what is going on.
Glad to see you on here still bro

I knew u couldn't leave us this early lol =). I been bashing the Evo 3D too as I'm not impressed with 3D & just simply being tired of all these UI's that bloats the phone down & makes getting updates seem impossible. I was either gonna keep my Epic or get the Nexus S, but the one reason I may get the new Evo is for Netflix! Also, HTC really surprised me too with the dual core processor, I really thought they were gonna throw the 2nd gen Snapdragon in it & call it a day. Now my only worry is will HTC lock down the bootloader, as they been hinting around that they're gonna start doing it going forward.

Yup, EVO 3D is the first with the 8660 processor. It will have NetFlix support. And alot of people misunderstand 3D. The phone runs in 2D, but certain applications have 3D support. Sooner or later everything will supoport 3D, but not right awhile.
The EVO 3D runs soooo smooth. I have a video of it running and it is a amazing. The new HTC Sense is awesome. I LOVE HTC Sense, I have always been an HTC fan, but the Samsung Epic impressed me too much to pass up. I had the HTC Vouge, and I made the first M2D custom rom for it, and I was the first to perfect it. The HTC Hero was my next and the Sense on that was incredible. I now see that the EVO 3D's Sense has surpassed all my expectations. I work with all the Sprint phones so I get to use everything, and by far the EVO 3D is greater then all. The LG Thrill and the Moto Atrix has nothing on it.
Trust me, the 3D is not a gimmick. This is legit and awesome! I will be getting it the day it comes out for my personal phone. HTC Sense, may be bloat to some, but it is by far the best UI out and even better then Launcher Pro IMO. I know I'll get hate mail for that, but Sense is the best UI out for Android currently.

Verizon's is the roaming coverage we get, it's the only carrier we support roaming for. Idk who the exact company who owes the towers...but I can find out.
which ones better i kno the shift has better support and stuff but i really wanted the tmobile g2 but they dnt sell them any more so i was wondering between these three which is the best and the shift is more like the g2 except for sense
If you google 'phonearena *phone model* specs' you'll be able to see some of the differences between the phones. I was stuck between the Transform and EVO Shift myself a week ago when I picked up my new phone and silly enough the EVO won because HTC shipped it with a word processor app (I'm big into using my phone for rough draft documents). This was the big seller for me since I came from using winmo which always came with a mini version of MS Word.

EVO Shift all the way. Couple off friends have moments, one has a Transform, and a couple of Epics. But of course my opinion is biast. It's hard not to be, the Shift is way better.

Then MikShifted-G another GB based rom heard nothin but good reviews about this

samsung transform does NOT compare to the evo shift!
I just upgraded from the transform to the evo shift and love it!!
I had shift182 rom ext4 on my transform and nothing helped the speed (or should i say lack of) issues.
Evo shift is the way to go, night and day difference!
Hope this helps.
