Thought I had it a few times, but it depends very much on the bit rate of the videos. And probably other encoding issues.
Tried XCPUScalar, and performance got much worse. PHM eventually died on me.
Is the bottleneck the cpu or the network?
Using TCPMP btw mostly.

Feedback your settings please.
BTW, what is the bandwidth of WiFi?
Will not be processor limitation in my mind. Best player out there is TCPMP...

Tried a variety of settings, none satisfactory. Does anyone have it working well so far?
Bandwidth of WiFi is theoretically 11Mbps, so that should be OK.... I've even ot best performance ticked in the wifi settings on the exec.
OK,
For video content on my Xda I convert DVD (or whatever) to use a frame size of 256x192 (i.e. maximums based on the AR of the orginating film) - this results in a staggeringly low 16x12=192 macroblocks for the encoding process to deal with, hence results in very small file sizes & therefore very small bandwidth usage.
Note: further reductions in file size & bandwidth can be achieved by reducing the frame rate but I'd choose 15fps as an absolute minimum - I don't bother doing this because of the resulting loss in quality.
I can only recommend video settings - I have not streamed over WiFi yet.
Andy
Yeah, I've got loads of re-encoding progs, and they all work but....
...the whole point of this is simply to play the files I've downloaded to my PC via Wifi, without further mucking around.
OK sorry - you can kind of go around in circles with this kind of stuff. The video settings above I have found to hugely reduce the video bandwidth whilst still maintaining the quality of the original - just thought if you were to use those settings then things may not be so jittery, but it looks like you've already gone down that path.
I'll shut up now.

Same issue here...see my thread about UPNP Transcoding on what we really need.
So, here I am, owning a phone that has an OS designed by google, trying to click on links for youtube videos "also owned by google" and I get (This video is not available on mobile)
WTF google. I know that I can choose to "open in browser" and wish me luck trying to fullscreen it.
why is the native youtube for android so limited? Half of the new, popular videos are unwatchable.
is there a way around this?
I have the same exact problem and I think it sucks too. You would think since they own Youtube there would be awesome integration via the mobile site or the application but I have found they absolutely suck on both accounts. I either get the "video not available" error, or it just takes FOREVER to load on the application (which it didn't at all on my TP2). Jeez...
works fine for me, both as flash on the site and linking to the youtube app
I believe it has something to do with licensing maybe? I am going to go out on a limb and say it was a music video or something? If so, the only logical thing I can think of is that they do that so you aren't tempted to just keep replying the song instead of buying it?

its not music videos... most of the video links that go to youtube on reddit seem to not work in the native app...
its just frustrating cause the youtube app works so well. Hopefully they will fix that.

have you tried the "hex edited flash" ?
I don't think it is that... some videos are just not meant for the app...
The thing that sucks is that it clears cache EVERY time you scroll back in a youtube video.
That needs to get fixed ASAP. Such an obvious flaw. I can't even watch a video in the app anymore. I use the browser, which the controls suck on as well.
It's copyrighted videos only...

That may be, but if I watch it on my desktop or phone makes no difference if it available to watch for free on YouTube.

I used to get those messages ALL the time, but after updating the app in the market, I've never gotten it again. Like go into the market, and download youtube.
Do the videos that you can't watch on mobile have ads before the actual video on desktop? I'm guessing some of the stuff is copyright material and are ad-driven. The mobile app doesn't display ads so maybe thats why it doesn't show.
And yea, it does suck, but i kinda understand how it would be this way. If they started showing ads to make the videos available on mobile, then people without "unlimited" data plans like new iphone users on the new ATT plans will complain that its eating up additional data, and a whole different round of complaints will go around.
Can't please everyone all the time.
Then they should just say it's due to ads. Or add a little confirmation box: "You must view an ad before you can see this video. This may cause you to incur extra data usage charges. Do you wish to continue?".
I somehow suspect it's due to some licensing crap, though. The MAFIAA don't want to accept that everything's a computer these days.
its not due to any ads. mobile viewing vs. desktop computer based viewing carry different licenses for content. there is nothing wrong with the app in regards to this.
when you upload videos there is an option to make that content available on mobile devices....
It depends on the video, and your internet connection.
I've found that if you retry to play a video, sometimes the 3G doesn't connect fast enough or load up enough of the video in time that the app likes, and it just spits out that generic message. You will probably have better luck on 4G or WiFi.
Also, some music videos and some other videos are restricted due to licensing issues. Majory being music videos though.
Just open it in the browser and hold your finger on the video for a second. You should see two boxes show up, one will make it full screen. I rarely even use the app any more because it's quicker for me to just pull up the page.
Same here, the page seems to just work better than the app. Hate the fact that forward/rewind wipes the cache, very annoying.
i made a video at work the other day and i thought i would share.
youtube muted my audio so i uploaded it to my facebook page.
i have 3.29 stock sense rom and kernel.
its my first video editing experience and its definitely not polished in any way, but i still think its good enough to share here.
basically i run through some games that i like and added a bit of tunes. some of the games show the potential for android gaming on the evo, and some are just fun.
the music has a bit of many genres but "PARENTAL ADVISORY: CONTAINS EXPLICIT LYRICS.
let me know what ya think, if i get alot of feedback maybe ill make more stuff like this and spend more time on it. the sky really is the limit.

oh, meant to mention, the video that i made is smooth and the video that plays from the link gets choppy from time to time as if my evo is having a hard time with the games, it really just is the video coming from facebook that is choppy not the evo.
Hi all,
Very impressed after watching this video on the Cyanogen Mod :
Demo video : http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...aster-flexycore-thanks-cyanogenmod-community/
I m pleased to share it with you and would like to know what you're thinking about this "droidBooster" which make an old HTC running at the same speed than a Nexus One! :
Whats the point of this?
What does a video of a video player proove? Wouldn't some real time benchmarks like linpack or quadrant be more proof.
Still why didnt they have 2 Nexus One's and show how much faster the one with droidbooster got.
All these booster softwares sound abit like all the BS booster softwares for windows.
sceptical...
Hmm I suspect that they are overclocking because they didnt mention anything about clock speed but lets hope that its legit
Edit: they have an apk in the market

I hardly think they are overclocking becose that would make the software only runnable on rooted devices. Which would remove a huge part of their possible market share.
And overclocking with that much improvement in performance? Youd have to double the clock rates. Which on nearly all devices is damn close to impossible. Except for Desire-Z for example.
Unless they somehow are without Root overclocking it or changing the kernel to their own super optimized i dont really see how this is done.
nd the nexus one can fly beyond their limits?
They posted this video showing how it works basically:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEAz9fRoDmA
Their software modifies the Dalvik code, which means that you do not only need to be root, but you also can't install this software without modifying your ROM.
From the web page http://www.flexycore.com/droidbooster-overview.html
"DroidBooster technology enables to compile any Android Java code in optimized native binary when generating the ROM, taking full power of the underlying CPU for high performance and low power execution."
This is not overclocking, but maybe be a paid app (and very expensive app)
Sorry 4 my poor english
It's actually more like Jit.
See this video for further explications : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEAz9fRoDmA
Lol ok took me so much time to answer that already 4 ppl posted !!
After looking at the company website who developed DroidBooster, I discover an other Video with a principle presentation of droidbooster.
"DroidBooster relies on compiling and executing any embedded Java Code of an Android system as binary." according to the video available here:
ww.youtube.com/watch?v=tEAz9fRoDmA[/url]
this thing is kinda bs imo. And the guy's voice is just gay
LoL
I hope to come out soon
If this thing really does what the company claims, then Google will probably buy the code from them. Also limiting this software to rooted phones means it wouldn't make a ton of cash, and then expecting them to cook and sign their own ROMs is a weird business model. In other words, it's meant for developers only, so we kinda have to wait for official incorporation.
exciting! hope they support the nexus ..

No, I doubt this code is worth anything to google. All they say they are doing it converting the dalvic code into native code. If google wanted to do that they could very easily, the JIT they included with Froyo already does do it to some extent.
I won't believe this for a second. I have both the N1 and Magic, and I can safely say the N1 is MUCH faster. It should be a no-brainer, just look at the specs. The Magic was what -- the second Android ever!? They were bound to improve, and the N1 set the bar high a year ago. Now look at the plethora of fast devices we have, and the N1 can be thanked for that. I once read that one of the reasons Google launched the Nexus was to jump-start the "super" smart phone market, because manufacturers weren't pushing the bar far enough in their devices. N1 set a standard for the rest of them. The way I see it, the Magic was nothing more than an early experiment.
And I never had an issue playing videos on my Magic anyway. What proof is that? The N1 is definitely more responsive, boots 10x faster, never runs out of memory. The Magic pretty much requires an app killer; never needed one on the Nexus. I can go on and on, but I think I made my point.

Not really. The point is that this guy is claiming to make java code run in native binary, thus ensuring that the CPU isn't doing unnecessary work to interpret and run java code. If possible (who's to say) then it would make a Magic run much faster than it does. It might even be feasible to suggest that it would run as fast as a stock Nexus.
Think about it this way, why is it that the original iPhone UI is so smooth? The code is optimized and run as a native binary, not some VM that has to be compiled and run by the CPU every time it wants it. Native code would make the Magic much faster.
The whole point is moot though, because this isn't something that you will see bundled into an .apk anytime soon. It might be novel code that Google picks up on and uses in later OS revisions though. Who knows.

As i understand it will cost a high memory consumption, where 512mb of ram will be not enought for it (Actually its already not enough on miui rom with Dalvik VM, on nexus1 i have only 130mb free). And high power drain.
Welcome back to Windows Mobile
Btw i dont believe it, they just want to make some money with air bubbles

"Only" 130MB free? It's 130MB that isn't ever used by the system, making it wasted 130MB, and you're referring to it as "only"?
This point was discussed zillions of times in Autokiller Minfree and "Don't need task killers" threads. Android has efficient memory management, Nexus having it VERY efficient since Froyo, much more efficient than really needed. It never uses its 400MB of user memory or even close to it.
Funny, how marketing affects people. They want more of the things they don't need.

Yeah, i call it "the only free memory."
Take a look:
You have 130mb left.
1)browser eats 65mb of ram. 65mb left
2)+some other apps that running at background/service.
So what i have in result?
My apps often be killed by android because out of memory.
The most anoying thing is when im surfing, writing some stuff on forums i get my browser killed with data lost. Its rare but still hapens.
Another real example: Dungeon Defenders. When i play it, i got almost all my apps be kicked from memory.
P.s. I know about wipe. Just moved to latest 1.1.14miui, have wiped everything 3 times.
P.s.2 ofcource it depends on how many apps you have and which rom you use. No problems with ram on stock android but i just dont like it, so...

Hi guys! just wanted to ask for some helpful information about the xoom, will be getting mine soon and I am still deciding on which to keep (ipad 2 or this)
Was an android user myself (cm6 on nexus1) so am quite familiar with the advantages and expandability of Android.
If I may ask the following:
1.) can i load a youtube video in the background and while waiting, multitask by browsing? (bandwidth in this part of the world is bad - we are waiting for youtube videos to load, even at a 360p resolution
2.) is the browser really as good as it gets? can it load forum pages with more than 20 pictures loading fine without crashing? background loading in tabs is a HUUUGE deal for me, is it really working "as advertised"?- close to (if not exactly like) a computer experience?
3.) how many tabs can i load? any real world input is appreciated. (in the ipad , i can load only a forum page with a lot of pictures)
4.) can i load videos in avi format?
5.) actual battery life? -(ipad is advertised as 10, and is really 10, any feedbacks on actual users?) - answered already in the other thread
6.) how is the 1gb ram for multitasking? is it always running out of ram? (nothing fancy, just loading youtube vids in the background, then browsing through 4-6 tabs, checking mail and chatting in Gtalk) the 1gb ram can easily handle these I presume?
Very optimistic about the potential of the tablet, I am hoping to get answers from actual users who have been already using the xoom, please enlighten us
4. I throw my avi movies on the xoom and watch them fine with rockplayer lite. Mkv. will need to get converted over to mp4 to work. I havent tried dl'ing them straight from the xoom though.

#1. No. It seems like youtube is set to be in hibernation stage when you leave/tabbed to the browser.
#2. Yes. The browser is as good as it gets. Forum pages with images loads with no problem.
#3. 16 tabs.. That's just on the default browser (chrome) that came with android. Another 8 for the Dolphin browser that you can get from the market.
#4. Skipped, check the post above me.
#5. I'm on my 10th hour now with 67% left on moderate use (browsing and watching youtube videos playing games). About 3-4 hours total usage out of the 10. Note: I saw some reviewer claiming 8+ hours of playing movies, so I'd say it depends on what and how you use it.
#6. Not a single hiccup!! It's just too fast! And the 1GB RAM is way more than adequate.

I'd agree with this. Battery is a nonfactor. It's as good as the Ipad with one exception. The Ipad has a 30day standby time. Nothing comes close to that. BUT, for runtime battery drain the Xoom is very good. You'll enjoy at least one day of battery with heavy use.

You cannot. The app must be displayed for it to properly buffer. If you switch tasks and go back to youtube you have to rebuffer again.

browser is phenomenal, but its nowhere near 'bug-free.' Theres tons of force closes if you open multiple tabs. The browser will be refined as the months go by I bet. I use 'Dolphin HD' as an alternative browser and works flawlessly, if not better than the stock Browser. However, I would still prefer to use stock browser as it does look slicker than any other browser out there at the moment

I had to stop reading after the YouTube comment. You want it to keep buffering while you're searching the web or doing something else? Youtubes play instantly on wifi and on 3g you don't expect it to load while you're browsing the web do you? I say keep the ipad 2

Anyone know if SlideIt or Swype is available for the Xoom yet? Believe it or not, that's the one thing holding me back from going out and buying one right this second. I know I'll be doing a lot of typing on it and like my inspire 4g, the keyboard is rather slow compared to a laptop, but with SlideIT, I can type ON MY PHONE damn near as fast as I can type on a dedicated hardware keyboard, which is baffling to me, to say the least.
SlideIt is on the Market. Never used it but it's there.
Swype beta still only works if you hack build.prop to report Froyo instead of Honeycomb (no tablet layout either).
SwiftKey is not on the Market, although I believe VIP testers will soon get a Honeycomb version.
