broken headphone jack/port - HD2 General

Hey guys,
I didn't see any reference to a solution in the hd2 section so I figured Id ask. I have an HD2 that has a headphone jack problem. Anytime I plug in headphones and the base of the headphones moves a little it will cause one of the ears to go out. I am sure that it is a problem with the female plug as it does not happen in my computer or iPod. Can anyone point me in the direction to get the part to repair it. I don't want to send it in as i think i could do it myself. Thanks in advance!!

Just a quick bumb to see if someones got a solution. Thanks!

Himalaya loudspeaker-sound lost, headphone-sound ok

I lost the loudspeaker-sound in my Himalya. It works using headphones. I think it may have to do with another set of headphone I connected to it, which was not original. Perhaps it put the device on permanent headphone mode. But then again it might not have anything to do with that.
Is there a Himalaya expert in Berlin - Germany who might be able to help me with it? I dread having to send it to the official reapir center, as I expect it to cost a neck and a hand.
Happened to me when I received a call whilst listening to music. I pulled the headphones out before answering the call, and then answered it. I could here them but they cvouldn't hear me. If you plug the headphones in again and remove them it solves the problem. Well it did for me anyway
I tried that. I doesn't do it. It doesn't matter what kind of sound, if Media Player file is played of phone ringing, only the headphones work. I think I need a dotor.
I have read a lot about the problem in others threads. It seems the headphone-jack can get stuck, not making a contact, which normally is being made and which turns the XDA back to speaker mode, when the headphone-jack is pulled out. Hereto:
1- What does that mean exactely? Which part is that, in what part in the on-board jack? If it had been bent out of place, is it possible to bend the part pack (at best without having to disassemble)? (I tried the ramming in and out, no go).
2- I looked at the non-original jack I had used and it is about 2 mm longer than the original. Might perhaps that explain it? Is there a part in the back that could have been bent out of place?
3- If indeed this was the problem (if the jack had been bent out of place, one way or another), would the microphone work? I can record using the dictaphone and the micophone also works during a call.
When we had himalaya's it happened to both of our devices (my wife and I had one each).
It appears the spring in the speaker can come loose. I used to bang mine (pardon the pun) on my palm and sometimes it would start to work. Then we broke the speaker protection shield, and this made it easier sometimes and hard to fix in others.
When I sold it, my friend took it apart as it was out of warranty, and as he is electrically minded, he find the dodgy bit, and soldered it to the device, and now works perfectly.
Yes! Thanks Jasjar. It worked after a bit of beating.
I found a detailed instruction of how to fix it permanently in another thread. Sounds complicated and dangerous but eventually I must do it.

Sorry for kicking the topic, but this was the solution for me. I just poked in the headphone-jack with a little stick and tataaaa... my sound is back!
Sound lost problem
Hi all,
same happen to me, the sound stoped working (on my side it had nothing to do with the phone jack).
After the modifaication which is described in this forum i had still the same problem so i solder the loud speaker directly - still same problem...
After some time i flashed the device again, now it works, so on my side it was a software problem...
The device was 3 month out of power, but i think remove the battery and if the sound appears on startup (on first boot) but later not, then flash the os and it will work ...

Just for reference:
A friend of mine had this 2020, and both Speakerphone and mic were not working.
When somebody called, the ringtone DID sound.
Anyway, bluetooth handsfree worked fine.
All we did was play with the jack, using the stylus! Not even headphones...
And now it works fine!
He says he'll never put phones on it again... lol

Hi, please help me find which points in the MDAII Motherboard can I solder to disable the headphones and get the audio and mic back to the MDA.
After a while my headphone-jack is broken from the motherboard and now I only have the pin outs in it.
The device is working perfect, and I can use bluetooth headphones. I just don't have audio in the speaker and no mic without bluetooth.
I hope someone can tell me which of the red points en the picture can I solder to disable the headphones.
I just want to do this temporally until I get a replacement spare part for it.
Thanks
EDIT: 12-12-2007
I got it. Just joining 1 and 3 and you will get audio back to the PDA disabling the headphones jack.
Thanks anyways for reading this..
Did you find out what all the mboard pins are for the jack?
I have a dodgy jack and would like to take flying leads of the mboard jack to an external (easily changed) inline jack. Does any know what the 1 to 6 pins correlate to. I would like to still switch the audio via the external jack. Not bothered about the mic.
TIA.

Headphone jack socket faulty...

I've been using my Touch HD for 8 days now, everything's been great until now.
The headphone socket has stopped working properly - I only get sound through 1 headphone when the jack is fully inserted, and only get stereo by pulling it out by 2mm or so.
Has anyone else had this issue, or does anyone know of a simple fix for it?
I bought this as an unwanted upgrade from someone, so would Orange UK (who it was originally from) or HTC would offer any support? I guess not, but wonder if I took it to an Orange store if they'd ask for proof of a contract or just fix it (any experience in this matter could be very handy!)?
Thanks for any help or thoughts!
I had the same problem but quickly realised that the jack needs to be pushed in firmly.
Works fine now!
Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's quite the same problem - on my HD pushing it in firmly results in getting sound from only one earphone, I need to pull it back to get stereo. I think a contact must have moved to the wrong position, not sure though.
Hi all, i just got my Blackstone last tuesday and i have the same problem. Only i don't have stereo even with the headphone plug a bit out of the jacket. Please tell me there is some sort of setting somewhere for single headphone speaker because i would really hate to return the htc blackstone for a failure like this......

Headset jack in Mono...not stereo??

Hey guys! Thanks for all the help you (the community & XDA Dev. Team) provide to n00bs like me! I have a weird issue with my brand spanking new Vibrant. Bought it yesterday.
For some reason, when I plug in the headset that came with the phone, I only get a mono sound coming out from the jack, not stereo. I also tried 3 other headsets both with 3 prong (phone-style headset) and 2 prong and messed with plugged (plugging it in slightly then pushing it in and twisting it) but still get a mono sound from it.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Anything in the settings I need to change or maybe a defect of the phone? I am brand new to Android and loving it so far!
Thanks for any help.
Not trying to be demeaning but did you push the connecter all the way in? I messed up the first time I used headphones and didn't push it all the way, resulting in a much lower volume.

I also did this. It clicks in twice onthe vibrant. Easy to miss
Looks like that worked.
Thanks for both of your help. I didn't have a pair of headphones at work with me, so I borrowed someone's here and it worked in stereo. I wonder if the headset that came with it are faulty. Anyone else have an issue with them??
i dont have any problems either...also i agree with the others, the final click is a really hard one, i almost thought i was going to break the phone getting the last click...just make sure you cant see any more of the headphone plug metal, and you know you got it in all the way
Guilty. I'm another one that didn't push the plug in all the way the first time.
You're not crazy. My firs Vibrant had a faulty headphone jack that would short out to Mono if the cable was touched at all. The second one works find, but like others said: you almost feel like you're going to break the headphone jack with the amount of force it requires.
Try exchanging the phone.
lol wow I'm glad I read this thread. I haven't used the headphones much after the first day if not pouting it in all the way. I would get stereo but it would cut out every once in a while
I thought I was crazy....
It's all good. I came home and actually tried the headset that came with the Vibrant and pushed down a little bit harder and it worked. Thanks for the "obvious" suggestions guys. I guess I was a little bit nervous pushing it too hard might break the headset jack. Glad it works just fine!

[Q] Strange headphone input?

I discovered it when I got my Xperia but at last I made a decision to ask about it.
So - what are the three pins near jack input for? The whole input is strangely key-shaped and hell I don't know for what these pins are.
Can you please tell me? I can't stop thinking about it!
I'm thinking about it as well... I guess this might be UART pins, which would possibly take us to Bootrom mode
But I'm not sure, I don't know how to check it out...
For example in some wired headsets the mic plugin looks like it

HTC Wildfire S headphone jack problem?

So I got the HTC Wildfire S and there is a little problem that I am facing. The headphones that came with it do not completely go inside the headphones port. I have tried others, thinking that it might be the problem with the headphones, but still no success. I have to keep the headphones a little bit "outside" to connect but the phone doesn't show the mic icon meaning that the mic isn't connected but the headphones are. But when I put it in my pocket it moves and it again disconnects. What could be the problem? Please help! Thanking you all in advance!

Are you sure they won't go all the way in with a little more force? Compared to iDevices most phones, especially HTC and Samsung, need more force to insert the connector. Which can be good if you drop your phone but hold the cable

Yes I am sure. They won't go all the way in. Tried many times with full strength but I was also afraid of causing some kind of damage. So yea, no luck till now. Seems like the headphone jack is a bit small.
Possibly a damaged headphones plug, you can replace it or try a repair.
Is it new? If so I'd get it exchanged. Sound like the port is faulty. Could just be one of the little tabs inside bent over but if you can, swap it
